"I love you too." I said quietly; still thrumming. I turned dragon to sleep, as I often did, curled around her and Poff and being like a big scaly pillow.
The next morning found me waking up a bit after Larissa did, bathing in the pool and turning back into my human form in the process. I wore simple clothes, just a halter and a pair of jeans; and a simple necklace with a wire-wrapped garnet. I, of course, also was wearing Larissa's soulstone ring she had given me. It was a skype call, I don't need to be wearing anything fancy. When that was done, I headed down to the kitchen; barefoot. The smells of omelettes filled the air and I smiled.
"Morning, sweetheart." I flashed a smile at her as Gossamer and Sapphire flew in after me, circling around my head. I looked up and smiled at them, and Sapphire went to hang from the celing while Gossamer landed on the table, burbling.
She had the food ready and her computer set up. I sat down next to the computer, looking at Larissa with my slitted emerald eyes.

Larissa and Poff had both slept well despite her concerns over the meeting with her parents (because finals wore them out). They would have to do the meetings one at a time, because her mum and dad lived in separate houses in different locations.
Larissa was wearing a skirt that had a soft white undercoat and tutu material in pastel rainbow colours around it over the top. It went down to mid thigh. She wore a stretchy white v neck tee which had little cap sleeves and on top of that, a light pink wool cardigan. She had white leggings on her legs and her hair was in the traditional cute side pony with the pretty pink and rose gold hair clip in place.
She didn't hear Garnet come downstairs until she spoke and when she saw her, she smiled. She looked so beautiful, even when she dressed casual. The morning light coming through the windows made her skin glow softly and her hair shine. "Morning Garnet. You look nice" she greeted. "I made breakfast".
She went to the table and poured some juice into glasses for them both. The table was already set with the food, plates and cutlery. "There's omelettes, buttered toast and tropical juice but if you need anything else let me know" She sat down at the table after pulling out a chair for her girlfriend.
Larissa heard Gossamer's burble and reached out to scratch his head and where his bird 'ears' were, knowing he liked that. "Morning Gossamer" She looked up "And Sapphire" She was glad the two weren't eating breakfast just yet. Since the bat and crow tended to like insects and grubs, which put Larissa's appetite out the window.
Poff jumped up onto a chair then onto the table and began washing herself, having eaten her cat food and lactose free cat milk. "Meowning efurryone" she greeted, using the beloved cat puns. Getting a few pats from Larissa.
Larissa looked back into Garnet's green eyes. "I decided to do the Skype calls after we eat breakfast. I thought we should talk to my dad first, since he's likely to be the more difficult one" she said nervously, reaching out to hold Garnet's hand. "He's...a bit old fashioned. And he doesn't really know much about other genders or relationships or other kinds of sexuality" she shrugged. "What can I say, he's a car salesman who lives a pretty normal life for a guy in their fifties. A typical bloke kinda guy who likes boating camping and fishing, and watching rugby and tennis on tv and drinking beer"

I smiled when Larissa greeted me, admiring me for a moment before complimenting how I look. I reached over and hugged her gently. "You look good too." I said.
Since we were making the call after breakfast, I dug in with what she had cooked. The omelettes were good, the toast crispy yet buttery and the juice sweet. I ate, taking my time as I was in no hurry to make the call to her inlaws.
She told me we would be dealing with her father first; a typical bloke type. I shrugged, rolling mu shoulders as she talked about it. We were telling him we were getting married, no educating him on genders and relationships. I just hoped he wouldn't be mean about it.
I finished eating and pushed the plate away, sipping my juice. "Whenever you're ready, love."

She was glad that Garnet thought she looked nice. Her style was always effeminate and princessy, with lots of pink and purple. Garnet's was more modern and trendy and a bit more gender neutral, sometimes elegant and sometimes casual but still stylish.
Larissa started eating her breakfast, polishing off one omelette and two pieces of toast, as well as the glass of juice. She fiddled with her fork after finishing, chewing her bottom lip. She had a hunch how her father would react to his daughter being a lesbian. Aria began to pick up the dishes and leftovers, depositing the leftovers into containers and placing them in the fridge, while running the sink with some dish soap and beginning to wash the dishes.
Larissa's fork pulled out of her hand and flew across the room to join its fellows in the suds. She exhaled slowly. "Yeah. I guess we should do it now then" she said. She pulled the laptop over and selected her dad in the contacts, pressing the call button. "Here goes nothing. If he says anything rude, I'm sorry".
Skype made its calling tune and then her father answered it and his face came into view in his study/office. He looked healthy and fit for his age, with a light stubble on his chin and a bit of a beer gut. He was built a bit stocky and he was wearing blue jeans and a t shirt with a common band of the 80s on it. "Good morning sweetie. How are you going? I got your text last night. You wanted to tell me about your relationship?" he asked, scooting a little closer in his chair at his computer desk. "I'm happy you're making friends and that you've met someone. And who's your friend here? Hi, I'm Mike, Larissa's dad" he said, raising his hand in a casual salute-wave motion of greeting. "I'm guessing you're her room mate. Leonie, was it?"
Larissa squirmed internally as her face heated up and she felt her chest tighten and her throat close up. She was so nervous. She hadn't been sure how to tell him anything and he was making natural assumptions but it wasn't helping any. She felt bad for leading him on. And for not telling him about Garnet because now it made things harder for Garnet too.
"Hi dad. Good morning. I'm going good" she answered him with a gulp. "Thanks. Yes, this is Leonie. Well, she...uh..." Larissa floundered, panicking silently. She took a breath and breathed it out quickly. "Well, dad, you know how this is a school for magic? Well, I have s-something to tell you. Leonie got changed by a spell and she decided to change her name to Garnet" she said, matter of factly. "And she is my room mate that I told you about. But she's also my um...my girlfriend" she said. Her palms were sweaty. "This is Garnet" she gestured to her with an open palm, like a sales lady introducing a new product on the stand for sale. "She's my girlfriend"

I watched the interaction of father and daughter over the call, and I couldn't help but smirk. "Actually, the name was Leo." I said. That was true. "She was worried it would sound too masculine when telling you about me." Also true. "So she decided to call me Leonie instead." Still true. They can just guess that I was a girl with a male name, considering how I look the part now.
"Still, we didn't call you to debate on the merits of masculine vs feminine names." I said, wrapping my arms around Larissa and kissing her on the cheek. "We're engaged. The wedding is in a few weeks. We were wondering if you'd do us the honor of attending?"

She panicked a bit more when Garnet spoke up, interjecting her own pieces of information.
Mike listened to Garnet as he watched her talk. "Well okay then. Thanks for that" he said, not really sure what to make of those facts.
He listened to Garnet as she kept talking and watched her hug and kiss his daughter in disbelief. His eyes were wide and popping.
"You what?! What do you mean engaged? You're two women, aren't you? How does that even work?" He looked at Larissa aghast and confused.
"Larissa, I don't even know what to say. I don't know how things are done at that magic school but it seems to have messed with your head. I suppose you're going to do whatever you want, as a grown adult but I have to admit, I'm disappointed with your choices. I thought you'd know better than that" he shook his head.
"I see you didn't wait for my or your mother's blessing before going ahead with getting engaged. Well just so you know, I don't approve. I don't know what you think you're doing" he scolded her. "If you decide to go through with this, don't expect to see me at your wedding. It's not an honour, it's a disgrace. Get your act together. I thought you were there to learn how to become a successful witch, not marry the other students! Especially not other girls"
"Dad. Wait!" Larissa said loudly before he could end the call, leaning forwards toward the screen, one hand slamming on the table.
"I'm sorry! I-I know this is different than what you're used to. Just let me explain...p-please. I didn't mean to startle you. I'm sorry if this is a shock. I-I don't really know how to explain. See, Leo was a boy but he got turned into a girl through a spell that went wrong. I already fell for him as a guy but that wouldn't even matter if she had been a girl anyway. I fell in love with Leo...I mean, Garnet, the person. I don't care what gender she is. She makes me happier than anyone else"
She wrapped her arms around her fiancee, returning Garnet's embrace. "I know your generation is used to things being a certain way but the thing is, same sex relationships have always been around, they are just far more widely accepted now than they were back then. So, it's nothing new. I know Garnet loves me and I love her, and we're happy together. This isn't a mistake, dad, it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. Coming to college was the best decision I made. And you know, plenty of people meet in university. Didn't you meet mum as a student?" She paused and there was silence, so she plunged ahead and carried on.
"I was scared to tell you because of this very reason. That you would reject me, or Garnet" she sniffled, as her eyes watered and she wiped at the tears quickly. "Please, please just....give us a chance, daddy. Garnet's a good person. Just wait till you get to know her! She's even used to my temper flare ups. I love her so much. Please, please come to our wedding. We're inviting you because you're important to me, and I want you to be there to walk me down the aisle just like you always said you would when I was growing up. I know it's different than what you pictured but, but...just please...give us your blessing".
She was speaking tearfully now, and tears were trickling down her cheeks. "A-and I am a witch, daddy. I'm learning to be one of the best crystal witches in the land. Garnet has helped me with that too"
Her father sighed heavily, raising a hand to his forehead to massage his temples. "Larissa...I just don't know..." he looked at Garnet then Larissa and just kept looking at them together as though he was trying to get used to them.
"I don't know if I can wrap my head around this. It's so sudden..." he sounded like he was deliberating, wavering on a decision. He didn't sound angry so much now, or upset, just very...confused and doubtful. "What about kids. I thought you always wanted to have some of your own"
This would be a perfect time for Garnet to say something to persuade him and push him towards the correct decision, perhaps even hint that being magic, unexpected things were possible, such as magical pregnancy.

The man was quick to snap at us... no, Larissa. He wasn't happy with the notion of two women marrying at all.
I frowned as he yelled at her, and only her interjection was able to keep him from hanging up. I raised an eyebrow. Well. Now I know where she gets her temper from. I thought. I had to seriously keep quiet to keep from offending them both.
She was surprisingly quick to talk him down, all the while returning the hug I had initiated. I kept my arms wrapped around her, giving him that look that both cats and snakes share-- that you'd cave in if I waited long enough.
Soon enough he had... deflated somewhat. Not so much angry anymore, but confused and doubtful; almost like what was going on was a bad dream. Then he seemed to remember her wanting kids herself.
"Don't worry about that, Mike." I said, confidently; finally speaking up. "Magic is a weird and crazy thing. There's more then one way for a determined couple of any gender to have children if they so desire."
When I was done speaking I glanced to Larissa and winked at her, before turning my attention back to her father. I continued to give him that look... If she wanted her father to walk her down the isle, he's going to walk her down the isle, damnit!

Mike looked surprised when Garnet spoke up, almost as though he didn't really acknowledge her being there until then. His face coloured a bit at the magic comments and he shuffled awkwardly and coughed. He didn't really want to know how that works. "Oh, uh, I see. Oh ah, well...that's pretty all right then. I s'pose magic's gotten pretty modern these days, huh?. Her mother'll be pleased to know that" he conceded gruffly.
He fidgeted a bit under Garnet's gaze and his daughter's pleading looks, eventually caving in. "I s'pose I can give you a chance..." he mumbled hesitantly. "Ehhh, fine, I'll give you a fair go. Bit weird but what can you do... I guess I'll come to the wedding. Just to walk me daughter down the aisle, that's it. I'll keep my promise; s'pose I can get used to differences..." he said, eyeing the two together as though sizing them up as a couple.
Larissa had caught Garnet's wink and she then kept watching her dad before he finally gave in and agreed. He seemed to find Garnet's expectant stare uncomfortable and pressuring. Luckily it pressed him towards a positive reaction. As soon as he somewhat began to agree to showing up at the wedding, Larissa squealed softly in happiness.
"Thank you daddy! You have no idea how much this means to me. I promise you'll like Garnet once you get to know her. I promise!" she said with certainty.
"That remains to be seen" was all he said about that.
She gently clapped her hands together once, in a businesslike manner "So uh, the invitations will come in the mail so look out for it in your letter box some time next week" she advised. "It's a spring wedding in a forest. And uh, thanks for giving us both a chance, that's all we can ask for"
Mike chatted a little bit longer and they ended the call, with him agreeing to show at the wedding and walk her down the aisle, and maybe stay for some cake.
She knew they'd be calling her mother next. She paused and turned to Garnet, squeezing her arm and then rubbing it "Are you okay? I'm really sorry about him. He's just...old fashioned, or something. He can be a stick in the mud and he has a bit of a temper, heh, that's where I get it from. But mum will be a lot easier. She's easygoing and more open minded. She's also on the internet more than he is. Dad tends to just use it for work and emails"

Under my gaze he eventually caved, conceding to the notion of coming to the wedding. Larissa was so happy to hear that, but I just kept with the stare until the call was ended.
When Larissa asked if I was okay, I gently pilled away from the embrace we had shared during the conversation. I held up a finger and turned away, before blowing a long, billowing plume of white smoke from my mouth in a long stream.
I blew until there was no more air in my lungs; before sucking down a breath as the smoke I had breathed billowed. "Okay. I am better now." I said. "I had to hold back to keep from verbally ripping that man a new one." I commented irritably.
I visibly relaxed a little when she commented on her mother being more easygoing. "I hope so." I said with a sigh. "Otherwise, I might torch the screen on accident."

She looked confused and worried when Garnet pulled away to blow out a big plume of smoke, but as she watched she understood what was going on, and calmed down again. She gave her a look of sympathy. "Sorry. I know he can be rough around the edges. He just needs time to get used to you and get to know you. And get used to the idea of us being a couple and that this is just the way things are from now on" she said. "I'm glad you didn't argue with him. Thank you, that was probably really hard" she said.
"I know he doesn't like it but he's going to have to suck it up if he wants to keep in touch with his dear only daughter. I think he knows that too and it's why he agreed. Plus the possible grandchildren" she blushed. "Ugh...I'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it. I don't know how he'll react to you being half dragon either" she groaned softly. "He's going to find out at the wedding though. Oh boy..."
It was now time to call her mother. "Don't worry. She really is" she reassured Garnet. "Please don't torch my laptop, I have lots of stuff saved on there that I need for school and personal stuff" She took a few calming breaths before video calling her mother.
The screen showed a woman sitting on the sofa. She had long, light orange hair and the same green eyes as Larissa. She also had the voluptuous full figure and huge breasts that her daughter had inherited. "Hi darling, good to see you. I got your text. Oh who's your friend? Is this the person you wanted me to meet?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow. On the couch behind her was a patchwork quilt throw cover. And nice embroidered cushions.
Larissa smiled and relaxed more. "Hi mum, good to see you too. Yes, this is Garnet, she's my partner. As in, she's my girlfriend. I'm sorry, I know that's a shock. I wanted to tell you sooner but...I didn't know I was going to fall in love with her. It just kind of happened. And then I was just..embarrassed and I wasn't sure how you'd react"
Larissa's mother looked taken aback by the news but she recovered quickly "Well my, I didn't expect that. But you're always full of surprises, darling, I should be used to them by now" she smiled. "So this is your girlfriend, eh? I never pegged you to swing that way...but she seems nice" she stammered, still coming to grips with the realisation. "Oh, sorry, how rude of me. Let me introduce myself; My name is Papaya Wingates. I'm Larissa's mother. Nice to meet you...Garnet? I take it you and Larissa met at college. You must be learning so many interesting things there".

Larissa was quick to reassure me; her mother was much more accepting then her father is. I nodded silently, trusting her in this sense.
I didn't say anything until Larissa started the call and her mother appeared on the screen. From what I saw of her surroundings, Larissa's mother's place was cozy.
I relaxed even more when Larissa introduced me and the woman seemed surprised but okay with it-- and for that I was glad.
"Garnet." I said. "Or Leo. I don't mind either name." I said, introducing myself. "And yes, we met at collage. It's a very interesting place and things happen..." I trailed off. Should Larissa break the news? Probably.

Papaya smiled. "I see. Well I believe you look more like a Garnet than a Leo, especially with that red hair. I think I'll just call you Garnet" she decided.
"That's nice that you met at college. I was hoping Larissa would make friends and meet someone, even though I had somewhat of a different idea than what she did" she admitted casually, "I'm happy for you both. She's told me about Charlotte and Mia and the others. I'd love to meet them if you all stay in touch after finishing schooling. Oh yes! Magic school, how exciting! I'm sure wondrous and amazing things happen every day and you just get used to them" she waved a hand and chuckled. "I make Larissa tell me all about it"
She looked at Larissa when Garnet trailed off. Larissa cleared her throat. "Mum, there's more I want to tell you. Me and Garnet aren't just girlfriends. We're engaged. And we are getting married in Spring this year. I would love it if you would come along. Dad already said yes. That took some convincing"
Papaya didn't take long to make her decision. "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" she screeched in joy and excitement, placing her hands either side of her face as she yelled. "You're getting married?! Ahhhh!" She was very enthusiastic. "Of course I'll come, darling! I wouldn't be caught dead otherwise! Just send me the time, the day and I'll be there. Of course I will need to buy a dress...what's the theme? Where is it at?"
Larissa smiled and leaned into Garnet as she put an arm around her back. "Me and Garnet are going to send you and invitation in the mail. It will have all the details on there. It's going to be in a forest with flowers and a theme of "The Heavens' or just 'Heaven'" she announced. "Don't worry there's enough time to get a dress and be organised, it's not for several weeks. Garnet and I still have to get our wedding gowns made too! Oh and feel free to share the news, but please don't publish the location on social media, we want to keep it a small, family affair just for close friends and relatives"
Papaya agreed, delighted, and the call soon ended. Papaya had a lot of questions but Larissa and Garnet had things to do today so she had to cut it short. "That's going to be all over Facebook" she sighed, shaking her head with a chuckle.

Well, Papaya seemed a lot more enthusiastic about us getting married then her father was. I couldn't help but smile as the woman got really exited over it.
The call ended soon after as Larissa told her to keep the location to herself and not to publish it. I sighed. "Good thing I didn't tell her my last name, or we'd have paparazzi." I said.
I glanced to Larissa when she commented on Facebook, and I shrugged. "That's fine." I said. I stood and stretched, arcing my arms over my head. I then paused and opened one eye to look at her. "I'm guessing you'll want to meet my family?"

Larissa giggled. "Oh yeah. That would be a pain. Last thing we need is for those guys to crash our wedding" she frowned at the thought of it but only for a second.
She looked at Garnet, watching her stretch. "Well...yeah. I do. But I'm kind of scared to" she said. "But it's only fair, since you just met mine. And they'll need to know about us getting married since they are supposed to come too"
Poff was dozing on the table, playing idly with a paper napkin. She yawned. "Us familiars will have to prepurr for the wedding too. At least I got to see what your parents are like, meow. They are not too bad" she said.
"Mum loves cats" she smiled. "She has some pet ones that I miss. I'm sure she would love to meet and pat you Snow Poff" she looked at Garnet "Do you want us to call your parents over Skype too?"

I nodded when she admitted that she was a little scared of meeting my parents-- that was understandable. She exchanged some words with Poff before asking if I wanted to call them on Skype.
"No, it's probably better if we go in person." I said, gesturing to the kitchen door. The door creaked shut. "I don't want mom accidentally blowing up dad's computer."
I lead the way over to the door as Gossamer and Sapphire shrunk down to perch and hang from my earrings, and I opened the door for Larissa. Once she stepped through I followed-- not caring that I wasn't wearing any shoes.
We found ourselves standing out front of a mansion. It was... well, for the amount of money the Ameras were reputed to have, it was roughly on the same level of grandiose as Aria. You couldn't tell what the garden was like as we found ourselves knee deep in snow-- (which I did not appear bothered by in the least) I headed over to the gate where I pressed a button near a hidden speaker in the brick.
"Who is it?" Asked a voice. It was female-- I hope Mom was using that magically reinforced speaker we made for her.
"Leo Ameras." I answered in my male voice. "I'm here to visit. I brought my girlfriend."
"Leo! Yes, come right in, dear." Said the voice pleasantly, and the gates opened of their own accord. I gestured for Larissa to follow me towards the house.
It was significantly warmer inside, though the lobby tile was cool dark marble with pale white walls and black and white decor. I closed the doors behind Larissa and I as we were approached by a tall-ish woman who had her silver streaked red hair tied up in an elaborate bun. She was leaning on the skinny side-- almost stick like, really.
"Leo!" She said, before pausing to look at me up and down.
I put my hands on my hips. "Did Dad not mention that I turned female some months ago?"
"He did." She said. "I didn't think you'd take to it so well. Why are you wearing no shoes?"
I smiled at that, waving off that last question. "Never mind that. Ma, this is Larissa." I gestured to her, "My girlfriend."
Mother looked at Larissa a moment, scrutinizing her for a few moments.
It was then I heard a loud BOOM from upstairs. Mother frowned and turned. "Is your father blowing things up in the chocolate lab again?"
"That's the direction it came from." I said helpfully.
She sighed, shaking her head. "He makes me wonder sometimes..." She glanced to Larissa, holding out a hand. "I am Pearla Ameras."
