Now that Ginseng had a new move it was only right to break it in, and what better way to do that then, say, a battle? This was Olivia's thoughts at least, and it was shared by the pokemon in question in question, his eagerness shown in the way he swept the immediate area several times over, a rather confident gleam in his eyes as he tried to discern potential opponents from the shadows that moved stealthily through shadows. Unfortunately, for all his eagerness, not a single pokemon could be find, but thankfully there was a saving grace, which came in the form of a man with a curious hairstyle.
"Hey there!" Olivia called out to him, flagging the male down before he could pass her group, and offered a grin as he instinctively turned to her, an eyebrow raised. He looked from side-to-side and then behind himself, before finally pointing to himself hesitantly. "Yeah, you," she confirmed, head nodding. "Is there any chance you'd be willing to battle me? I want to try and get my pokemon ready for the gym leader." The male stepped closer, one hand naturally falling down to rest on his hips. "You know there are better ways to battle someone, other than calling out to them," he pointed out, expression mildly amused.
"Yeah, sorry. I'm still pretty new to this whole trainer thing, I haven't really figured out this whole 'requesting a battle' etiquette yet," Olivia explained, rather amused herself. "Ah. Well, alright then. I guess I can battle you," he finally agreed before he looked around. "Let's just, uh, find a better place. Crowded streets don't make for the best battle grounds." With the male in the lead Olivia soon found herself in a small park, nearly empty save for a few children with their caretakers. "This oughta be good enough," the male surmised before he turned back to the pinkette. "I'm Robin by the way.""Olive," she returned the introduction with one of her own, careful to use her alias, then sent forth Ginseng while Robin got his first pokemon ready, one not easily recognized and therefore needed a quick scan from her pokedex.

Olivia sucked in a breath sharply and couldn't help but to wince at the outcome of the first battle. It wasn't as if she had lost, or even that Ginseng had performed poorly, but rather the sort of unintended ferocity of the battle. The young woman chuckled sheepishly as she rubbed the back of her head, the opposite reaction of her rather pokemon, who flexed and began to parade around, proud of his newfound problem. "Er, sorry about that," she apologized, on behalf of Gin's showboating. Robin only shook his head as he returned his defeated Rufflet, "it's fine. I just didn't expect your pokemon to have that sort of move on it."
"Heh, yeah." Was all Olivia could muster up as Robin sent out his next pokemon. She knew that the move was a strong one, it was exactly why she'd taught it to Gin, but she hadn't expected his pokemon to be so weak, or at least to the point where she was seriously considering having Gin curb his strength. Especially when the next pokemon Robin sent out was another flying-type; either he had embraced his parent's name choice, or this was just one hell of a coincidence.
"Use Quick Attack, Gin," Olivia suggested, in the hopes that the battle would last long. Alas, it did the opposite, as the Vullaby was taken out with as much ease as its peer. The pinkette brushed her bangs out of her face, only to instinctively have the strands fall back into place. Well... at least it hadn't been an overkill?

Without another word Robin returned his pokemon and sent out the next, yet another flying-type, but this one Olivia found to be vaguely familiar. "That's a..." she let her sentence trail off, the name on the tip of her tongue and yet inaccessible at the moment. "Hawlucha?" Robin answered for her, and the luchador gave a superior cry in its own greeting. "Yeah, that!" A few of her cousins had introduced her to the particular pokemon when she was younger, and although they weren't a pokemon she could see herself catching she appreciated its bright colors and attitude. "You've got a nice pokemon on you," she complimented and Robin smiled, rather proud of the comment directed to both him and his partner. "Thanks."
Of course, she couldn't let this stop her from battling and with a sweeping motion she ushered Gin forward. "Let's do this quickly, Quick Attack!" she commanded and with a bit of excitement she watched as her pokemon charged forward, "Detect," Robin murmured, almost too low for her to hear, only for him to bounce off as a light appeared around the proud flying-type. Olivia instantly looked to Robin, her eyes narrowing as the bird keeper gave a coy smile and a shrug. "Tackle," she said shortly, the move bringing the battle to an end.

The next pokemon Robin sent forth turned out to be yet another flying-type, and foreign to Olivia as the ones before had been; at this point she might as well keep her Pokedex on hand. It might have been taxing, taking several seconds to scan each and every pokemon that they came across and then waiting for their information to peer, but it certainly proved useful, in this case especially, as her handheld device revealed the little balloon pokemon to be a dual type, flying and ghost; something she would've only realized too late, had she not had her Pokedex.
It was rather unfortunate however, not only because a third of Ginseng's moves were normal, but because that left only one possible move let, one that, once again, proved to be too much. Gin, of course, didn't seem to mind and was in mid victory thump when he flinched and recoiled, body wracked with pain. Olivia raised an eyebrow at the scene and looked from her pained pokemon to the now unconscious Drifloon. He hadn't even been struck, the battle had been over too quickly for that, so why was he in pain? From what she'd gathered, Gin wasn't much of an actor, so he couldn't have been faking it...
"It's Drifloon's ability," Olivia whipped her head to the North when Robin spoke up, his voice calm. "Aftermath, it deals damage to the pokemon's attacker after it faints." The young officer huffed lightly, absorbing this new information before she nodded slowly. "Huh. Really?" She turned her attention back to Ginseng, who was slowly recovering from the unexpected shock, "thanks for telling me."

With Robin's permission a reprieve was enacted, just long enough for Gin to catch his breath and recover, and while they waited Olivia took the time to check on her two other pokemon, who, up until now, had patiently been standing on the sidelines. "You two doing alright?" she inquired and waited until she received some sort of confirmation before she nodded. "Thanks for being so patient, you especially Cay," she addressed her little spitfire with a soft smile. "You'll get a turn to battle soon too, I promise." That reassurance was all the Cyndaquil needed, apparently, and with an excited squeak she bobbed her head up and down, to the point where her entire body began to shake.
Olivia was still laughing as she turned back around to face the battlefield, her eyes falling on Gin and found that he'd finally recuperated enough for the battle to continue. Robin, taking note of this, gave an underhanded toss to release his pokemon. Olivia couldn't help but smile when she could easily recognize the avian-like pokemon as one from her region, and a rather common sight at that. "You really like flying types, don't you?" she asked as Ginseng made quick work of the Pidgey, finally addressing the Phanphy in the room. Robin simply shrugged, one hand falling back behind his head as he stretched and returned his fifth pokemon. "I just stick with what I love, and flying types have a certain elegance, wouldn't you agree?" The young woman shrugged, deciding that the action was more than enough. She had nothing against flying types, in fact there wasn't a single type she actually disliked, personally, she just didn't think it was wise to stick with one particular type, it left your team open to the same type disadvantage. But, to each his own.

Olivia gave a light stretch while she waited and wondered who Robin would send out next, and in the meantime she mentally counted back how many pokemon he'd sent out so far. One, two, three... five pokemon, so that meant he only had one left? Trainers could only have up to six pokemon in an active party, after all. Her curiosity was sated when the male sent out the sixth and final pokemon, a Murkrow who gave both her and Gin a distrustful look, it was almost as if it knew what'd come to pass while it'd been held in its pokeball, and it wasn't pleased.
"This is my last pokemon," Robin admitted, confirming Olivia's hypothesis, and gave a stretch and a grin. "And I can promise you, you won't be able to take this little guy out like you've done the last." Curious about this sort of confidence, she allowed Gin to test his promise out, and true to his word the dark-feathered bird managed to withstand Gin's attack and counter with his own, leaving the rabbit unsteady on his feet. "Hm," Olivia hummed in light amusement, oddly enough she was happy that her first trainer battle could actually be made up of, at least, one strong pokemon, or at, the very least, strong enough to last more than one turn. However, despite her appreciation, the officer didn't dare allow the battle to progress any longer, Gin was on his last leg, and with another Tackle the bird was set flat on his back, unconscious.
"Hey, thanks for the battle." Olivia thanked the other as they both returned their pokemon, the former even taking it upon herself to shake her opponent's hand. "Heh, no problem." Despite his loss Robin managed a smile and a chuckle, which, at the very least, showed that the man wasn't a sore-loser. "Thanks for giving me the motivation to train, I didn't realize how under-leveled most of my team was.""Not a problem, and I'm sure it won't take long before your pokemon get stronger."
A few more words were exchanged between the two before Robin finally took his leave, making straight for the Pokemon Center to have his pokemon healed. After some thought, Olivia began to do the same and slowly made her way back into the main part of the city. She wasn't sure if she was gym ready yet, but she felt as if they were getting closer, which was better than nothing.

Olivia began absently curling strands of hair around her index finger as she walked, a habit she'd picked up long ago that often expressed stress or boredom, and at the moment she was bored. After she had Gin healed at the Center she'd go back out for more training, and maybe work on creating her salves, after all she had collected all those herbs, it was best to use them soon rather than wait and allow them to dry out. Of course, not just Gin needed training, after all, she did have six pokemon with her currently. She'd promised to get Cay into a few more battles, so there was her, she also wanted to train Blue, in the hopes that it'd help them bond and she could discover a bit more about him.
The woman pushed her thoughts to the side as she entered the Center, quickly deciding to train those three pokemon once she'd finished her busy her, and approached the counter. "Hi there," she greeted Nurse Joy and once she received a nod in return, albeit a slow one, she reached back to hand the woman Gin's pokeball, and as an afterthought Cay as well; even if the Cyndaquil hadn't received any injuries in her previous battles, it'd be good to have her checked over just as a precaution.
As she waited Olivia turned her thoughts back to her training, mainly the reason behind it, which just so happened to be the Santalune City gym. Now that she thought about it, she knew little to nothing about the gym leader or the type of pokemon they used, hell she didn't even know where it was located. That would definitely have to change. Pursing her lips lightly she turned to look at Nurse Joy, who currently had her hands full treating her pokemon. She looked away, and this time looked out towards the waiting room, it was relatively empty, save for one man, another trainer by the looks of it. Maybe he knew!
Checking back once more to make sure Nurse Joy wasn't just about to return her pokemon, Olivia moved towards the man, Valerian following after. "Hey there," she lifted a hand in greeting before she stopped, chin naturally tilting upwards so that she could look him in the face. "Uh, quick, random question for ya, you wouldn't happen to know where this city's gym is located, would you? Or at least, what type of pokemon they use?" She scratched her cheek afterwards, only then realizing how truly uninformed she sounded, maybe next time she'd do a little more research on the town and not just Team Flare. Ah well, hopefully the brunette wouldn't judge her too harshly on it. Besides, as far as she knew, trainers helped out other trainers, it was only polite.

After returning his two veteran pokemon, Vince also returned Yin and Li, then adjusted his belt to arrange the addition of two new pokemon to it. Once satisfied, he figured he should do some more training with Huang Chen before going up against Viola. He was about to leave, however a young lady with pink hair approached him with a friendly greeting. Vince have her a mildly inquisitive, cursory glance. "Hello." He nodded politely, though his gaze moved to the bisharp accompanying her, noting that it seemed rather disciplined, a rarity among pokemon and their trainers. He doubted she was approaching for just a friendly chat though. His attention went back to his belt as one of the pokeballs felt odd when he had stood, so he checked it to make sure it was fastened properly while she asked her "quick random question". It seemed odd that a trainer would come to an unfamiliar region without researching the answers to these things ahead of time like he had, but he had no qualms providing the information to her. "Viola is a bug type trainer. If you exit the pokemon center and head right, then take the first right the path offers you, you'll see a waterfall. Keep going until you hit the trainer's school and then to the right of it is the gym." He explained, though he soon realized that this was a lot of information for most people, which meant it was probably going in one ear and out the other.
Vince glanced at the doors and back to Olivia with a light sigh, sticking his hands in his pockets. "I'm actually headed that way now, if you just want to follow me." He offered, walking towards the doors of the center. He hadn't really been planning on entering the gym, but he had wanted to take a look around the area for pokemon or trainers to battle, so a walk around town was fine with him. Plus, now that he'd thought about it, it probably wasn't a bad idea to check the gym out, or maybe watch Viola battle this girl to see what her fighting style was like.... Aside from her obvious love of photographing her battles. "....Say, you aren't camera shy are you?" Vince asked with a bit of an upward turn to his lips that almost seemed smug and teasing, but not quite expressive enough to say for sure. Once outside, Huang seemed antsy. On the one hand, she was eager as ever to train and beat Vince's expectations, not to mention she wanted to try out some of her new abilities that Vince had granted her. On the other hand, she had promised that she wasn't going to run off again on her own without Vince's instruction, and she knew breaking that promise was out of the question.
Still, it was difficult to contain herself. The charmander's tail wiggled and thrashed to display as much. "Patience.... We will find you a proper battle yet." Vince promised quietly. ('You keep saying that, and yet....') She sighed. ('Vince does not break promises little one. You must learn to conserve your energy for when you really need it, and you will achieve this through mastering patience.') Lin explained with a small smile. ('I-I'm trying, really I am... But it's like there's this big ball of energy inside of me and it's making me want to run around...! Or... Something...') Lin chuckled. ('Perhaps you and I can meditate later tonight.') Lin suggested. ('Meditate...? Isn't that a pokemon?') The charmander asked, clearly confused. Xiu Feng snorted in amusement. ('Yes, yes it is.') The lupup grinned slyly, and Huang frowned. ('Come on, what's with that look?') She asked, sounding offended. It wasn't her fault she didn't know what meditation was.
Vince soon called to her attention though. "Your patience is rewarded Huang Chen." He directed the charmander to the azuril in the distance when she looked at him. Seeing the blue pokemon and knowing Vince was sending her into battle was certainly rewarding. "Be careful, this pokemon might be normal and fairy type, but it has water influences." Vince explained to the charmander. She gave a curt nod and moved cautiously over to the fairy, however the azuril still seemed to pick up on her presence and turned to face her before she could land an attack. This revelation was frustrating, but Huang Chen accepted it. Sure enough, as Vince warned, the little mouse spouted liquid into the air, raining it down on the charmander. It wasn't so much of an attack as a warning it seemed though. "It's trying to scare you off instead f outright attacking. That's it's mistake, so now we take advantage of it. Use iron tail!" He commanded. Huang Chen growled, her tail shimmering as she charged at the fairy and smacked it hard with her tail. The azuril was sent away into the tall grass, and Huang Chen seemed fascinated with her new power. Her inexperience showed though as she inspected her tail in awe.

When her trainer moved over to interact with another trainer Valerian, of course, dutifully followed after, making sure to keep an appropriate distance: not too close to the point where she risked cutting her partner, but not too far away either; to sum it up she was close enough to step in if needed, but wasn't on her heels. The Bisharp looked down expectantly when she felt eyes on her and found the stranger looking in her direction, she gave a curt nod of greeting before offering the same to the man's pokemon, taking note of one in particular who bore a resemblance to one of Olivia's own pokemon. "A bug trainer, huh?" Olivia gave a nod of the head when Vince informed her of the gym leader, and was apparently well informed enough to give her directions as well. Huh, well wasn't he a shining example of what she herself ought to aspire to be.
The woman was in the process of memorizing his directions--right, right, waterfall, trainer's school, right; she could make a song out of that--when the man extended his kindness by offering to guide her, though it was more out of convenience rather than an act of chivalry. "Oh hey, thanks. I'll take you up on that. Just give me a sec." Olivia turned on her heels to head back towards the counter, where Nurse Joy was finishing up, and quickly made her back over to retrieve her pokemon, departing with a word of thanks afterwards. She jogged back up to Vince, managing to catch up to him before he left the Center, and released Cayenne and Ginseng out in the process. The two looked about them, instantly noticing the new pokemon around them, but didn't allow the shock to let them fall behind and began to follow after her, any and all questions about the new faces were directed to Valerian.
Olivia couldn't help but to tip her head to the side at Vince's rather random question, and it was only after she noticed his expression, which allowed her to gauge her own reaction, that she responded. "Not at all," she answered and she found herself smirking. "But, as flattered as I am, I think we should at least learn each other's names before you go taking pictures of me," she teased, and then went on ahead to introduce herself, "I'm Olive. And you are?" While she waited to learn her companion's name she couldn't help but to turn her attention to his pokemon, in particular the little Charmader he promised to find a battle for. It was a pokemon she was familiar with, and, in fact, recognized it as one of the starters Professor Oak gave out, which meant that, at the very least, he wasn't from Kalos either. It was nice to know that someone else had wanted to start out in a region their starter hadn't come from, though she doubted their reasons for this were similar.
It wasn't long before a pokemon appeared and, as promised, the Charmander--whose name she quickly learned was 'Huang Chen'--was allowed to battle it. Olivia looked down at the ground, where Cayenne squirmed about eagerly. "You'll get your turn," she assured before reaching down to run a hand soothingly over her back. She continued stroking the fire-type's back as she watched Huang Chen's battle and found herself impressed with her strength, if not a bit concerned. That tail had really done some damage, that poor Azurill hadn't stood a chance. Valerian, sensing her trainer's concern, quietly slipped away to check on the little pokemon and returned once she'd assessed that it was fine, it'd be sore for a few days, but it would recover.
Satisfied with this, Olivia straightened back up and looked to Vince. All those years working with her mother had certainly softened her up, it allowed her to empathize with a pokemon in pain. However, it wasn't her place to instruct another trainer on how to battle, and it hadn't been an outright malicious attack. Besides, that wasn't the topic currently on her mind. "You've got a strong little spitfire on you," she complimented aloud, head inclining to Huang Chen. "Have you had her for long?"

Xiu Feng had payed little mind to Valerian, unlike Vince. She wasn't really interested in the bisharp and therefore didn't see her nod of greeting. Huang Chen would have been more social if it weren't for her eagerness to battle distracting her, so in the end it was Lin Hua who actually gave the bisharp a decent greeting, locking eyes and nodding back with a light smile. Olivia repeated the information Vince gave, muttering about Viola being a bug trainer. Vince nodded in confirmation and then went on to explain how to get to the gym from the pokemon center. Though after giving it some brief thought, he was going to be moving about the city, so instead of explaining and clarifying over and over, he offered to take her there himself, which Olivia seemed to appreciate. What was it today with escorting girls around....? Vince's countenance shifted oddly at the thought, but soon resumed it's neutral expression as he made for the door, waiting there briefly while Olivia grabbed her newly healed pokemon and caught up to him. Once they left, she let her pokemon out, and Vince noted what they were. Some rabbit pokemon he hadn't seen much of in Johto, but he had glanced over it briefly when he was studying Kalos. It must have been native to the region. The other pokemon he did recognize though, a cyndaquil, which he knew well as one of the starters available back in his home region. "Are you from Johto?" He asked curiously. If that was they case, they had more in common than Vince expected.
Xiu Feng eyed the pokemon that Olivia sent out, mainly to make sure that she wasn't planning to attack Vince with them or something, but afterwards pretty much ignored them. She was content to just walk along by Vince's heels, keeping a wary eye on the girl and her pokemon on occasion. Lin was amused however as the bunnelby and cyndaquil began to ask Valerian a bunch of questions about them, and the mega sceptile looked over to them with a gentle smile. ('You know, it is quite rude to ask questions about pokemon standing right here.') She chuckled, chiding them playfully. Vince then asked Olivia if she was camera shy, which might have seemed like a strange question out of the gate, but knowing Viola was a photographer, Vince knew it would make sense once he explained. Olivia answered that she in fact was not camera shy, and then teased that he should at least learn her name before going and trying to take a picture of her. Vince chuckled at that, an interested expression crossing his face as she introduced herself. Olive? That seemed like an interesting name. "Vince. Were your parents a fan of food or something?" He asked. Arceus, and he thought his names were embarrassing. Olive? He couldn't recall ever hearing someone named that before. "Also I wasn't asking for me. Viola is a photographer, so I figured I may as well give you a fair warning if you didn't like getting your picture taken." He explained.
Though it wasn't long afterwards that Vince saw an azurill for Huang Chen to fight, and directed her after it. She certainly did a number on the fairy, it's weakness to steel was an unfortunate factor but he wasn't going to have Huang Chen risk a weakened heat wave when he could make sure the fairy was defeated in one hit. Olivia's bisharp seemed to feel the need to check on the azurill though just in case. Vince wasn't going to object; given Huang Chen's inexperience, she certainly hadn't learned to control her strength yet, and it would be nice to know that the fairy wasn't too badly damaged. He would be sure to have a word with the charmander when she returned. Olivia had to comment, mentioning that Huang Chen was a strong little spitfire and asking how long he'd had her for. "Mm. She's quite a handful, but I've managed through worse temperaments. She's fresh out of the lab today actually." Vince admitted. Once Huang Chen returned to his side, he commented on her strength. "I mentioned that your power would increase significantly with your new abilities Huang Chen, do you remember what I you promised in return...?" Vince asked. "Charrr....." ('Uhhh......') She looked confused. Honestly she was so excited about fighting that she'd forgotten. "Not to let that power go to your head." He reminded her. "You are now far stronger than the pokemon in this area, you should be more mindful of that, and not exercise your full strength here, lest you do irreversible damage. Our goal is to get you stronger, not to kill pokemon, so in future battles you will exercise restraint. Are we clear?" Vince enforced. Huang Chen nodded, clearly feeling a bit bad now.
Vince glanced over at a bunnelby that was checking them out from under an empty bench, not Olivia's Ginseng, but a wild one. Vince pointed it out to Huang Chen. "There. Try again with your iron tail, but remember, gauge your opponent's strength first. Don't waste your energy unleashing more power than necessary." The charmander nodded and went after the bunnelby, who hopped out from under the bench and readied itself for an attack. Huang Chen jumped up into the air and spun vertically to lightly hit the normal type over the head with enough force to knock it out, but nothing more. Afterwards she returned to Vince, glancing up at him to check how she had done. He nodded in approval. "Much better." He commended.

Valerian didn't seem to mind the lack of greeting from the other two pokemon, not offense nor thinking much of it, but rather chose to give her attention to the pokemon that did acknowledge her. She didn't speak, but a warm look began to occupy her previously stoic visage. The Bisharp listened to the humans converse, eventually understanding the gist of it, they would be gaining new traveling companions, at least for a short while. The medium-sized group began to take their leave, but not before Olivia could retrieve her pokemon from Nurse Joy, and with her return came Ginseng and Cayenne. The pinkette smiled at both pokemon, who stood still just long enough to gain their bearings, and watched as they both moved to join Valerian, where a conversation between the three started. Olivia glanced up expectantly when a question was asked of her, regarding her home region. "Yeah, Ecruteak actually."
Well, that was a lie. But, she was, in fact, undercover, which meant she couldn't go admitting her true place of origin. Certainly not to a stranger, at least, and that wasn't to say Vince was a suspicious person, one just could never be too careful. Thinking about it, it was probably the reveal of Cayenne that had 'given her away', it certainly made the most sense. "What about you?" Olivia asked, turning his question back on him. "Where are you from?"
While Olivia talked her pokemon found themselves in a conversation of their own, a rather avid one that involved many questions about the strange pokemon they suddenly found themselves traveling with. All of these questions were, of course, hurled to Valerian who, as their senior and the only pokemon at the time actually out, had all the answers, at least in their mind. "How tough are they?" Ginseng inquired, shooting a look in Xiu Feng and Lin's direction. ]"What kind of pokemon are they?" Cayenne interjected, not giving Valerian even the chance to begin answering Gin's. The two were in danger of overwhelming her when Lin stepped in, gently reprimanding them for talking about them while they were present. ]"Oops, sorry about that," Cayenne ducked her head sheepishly. ]"I guess I should ask you then. What kind of pokemon are you?"
Olivia gave a slow nod when Vince introduced himself, an amused hum following his question. "Why yes they are," she confirmed. "So much so that they named my brother Ruben, and our Pidgey Rutabaga." She allowed a pause to settle in, just enough so that Vince could discern that she was joking. When enough time had passed she clarified with an actual answer. "No, my mom just happened to eat a lot of olives during her pregnancy, so they decided, why not. It's a decent name after all." The sad part was, that actually wasn't a lie. If her grandmother hadn't intervened she actually would've been named Olive. The woman clasped her hands behind her head, eyes looking towards the sky absently. "Oh, is she?" Her eyebrows furrowed lightly when Vince explained that Viola was a photographer, it was one of the first times she'd actually heard of a gym leader integrating a hobby into their gym. Or at least, to the point where it was well-known. "Well, thanks for telling me. I'll make sure she gets my good side."
They were still walking when the group was intercepted by an Azurill, though Huang Chen made quick work of the pokemon, so much so that Valerian took it upon herself to check up on the pokemon once the battle was over, assuring that it would live to fight another day. Olivia nodded empathetically when Vince admitted that his starter was a handful, which was understandable considering that he'd only just received her today. It was rather coincidental, since she herself had only gotten Cayenne a few hours ago, and she said as much. "Huh, really? I just got Cayenne myself." The Cyndaquil looked up when her name was called, instantly shuffling forward with an expectant look. She'd been distracted, so she wasn't quite sure why she'd been called, had a pokemon been found for her?
"Sorry girl," the woman apologized when she saw how excited Cayenne was. "No pokemon yet." She really had been patient and hadn't once complained, that deserved a reward of some kind. Determined to find her something to battle she began to search the open area and while doing so absently listened to Vince explain to Huang Cheng about how she needed to taper her strength, at least to the point where she wouldn't cause any serious damage. No sooner had she'd been told that did she come across a chance to practice as Vince noticed a Bunnelby and had Huang Chen fight it. Olivia looked back to check on her rabbit, and in the turn back noticed another Bunnelby not too far off. "Cayenne, look," she pointed out the pokemon to her starter, who squeaked in both surprise and joy. Finally! "Go on and use Tackle."]"Cynda!" She charged forward, knocking over the poor pokemon before it truly even had a chance to get its defenses up. "Heh," Olivia chuckled and rubbed the back of her head. "Well aren't you an eager Bidoof."

The bisharp seemed rather pleased with Lin's returned greeting, and the mega sceptile couldn't help but continue to smile to herself for a bit longer. She had noticed the warmth in Valerian's expression, and felt content. It was good to see a happy face, even if it was subtle. Though, she supposed that subtlety had more to do with the bisharp's stiff structure than anything else. She couldn't imagine being made of metal, she felt her body growing stiff just thinking about it. Vince couldn't help but look a bit surprised but intrigued when Olivia mentioned she was from Ecruteak. "Really...?" He looked her over again. He knew Ecruteak well. He'd traveled there many times with his parents to watch the kimono girls dance and battle, pay his respects to the burned tower, travel through the bell tower. It was a very quiet and historical town, one Vince greatly respected. He believed her, because he doubted she would have any reason to lie, but... She didn't seem like the traditional type that Ecruteak usually housed. He wasn't suspicious though, more surprised than anything else. "Blackthorn. I wouldn't have pegged you as an Ecruteak girl." He answered her inquiry with a light smile. "My family and I often traveled to Ecruteak. We might have seen each other before and never knew it." He entertained the idea. "So, was there any particular reason you wanted to come to Kalos?" He asked curiously. He had his own reasons, but he doubted hers were anything similar, so he couldn't help but feel curious as to the other reasons a Johto native would want to come to Kalos. Lin chuckled a bit as the two younger pokemon had begun to overwhelm the poor bisharp with questions, and couldn't help but interject, mentioning that it was rude to ask questions about another pokemon when they were right there. That seemed to redirect their questions to her instead, which was probably a relief to the quiet bisharp. Lin didn't mind though, she smiled warmly to the little pokemon and happily answered their inquiries. ('I am a sceptile, a mega sceptile to be exact.') She explained. Upon Olivia giving her name as Olive, he couldn't help but ask if her parents were fans of food. He just couldn't imagine a child actually being named Olive, and as she teased him be explaining that she had a brother named Reuben and a pet pidgey named Rutabaga, he couldn't help but laugh a bit. "That sounds.... Like a very unfortunate family." He suggested, sure that she was joking, but on the other hand there was a worrying doubt that she was serious. Thankfully she clarified that her mom had actually just eaten a lot of olives during her pregnancy and decided to name the child after them. "Em.... Not to sound rude, but I don't really think I've ever heard Olive being used as a name before... Other than for the food." He said in regards to Olivia's mother thinking that Olive was a decent name. Afterwards, Vince explained that the camera question was actually brought up because Viola was a photographer, not because he wanted to take her picture. Olivia seemed mildly surprised by that, though Vince couldn't really blame her. "Yes. I wouldn't be so forward if I wanted your picture." Vince snorted. He was still amused she thought he was asking for himself. Though given she didn't know Viola was a photographer, it was a fair deduction. Olivia took it in stride though, thanking him for the information, since now she could make sure Viola got her good side. "Mm. I hear her gym is also host to a collection of her favorite shots during battle. I wasn't planning on going inside, but now I am curious to see some of these photos." Vince suggested. They were almost to the gym, so he would get the chance in a moment. Olivia commented that she had only just gotten Cayenne herself. "Yes. Huang Chen is my starter since I only just registered to be an official trainer, however I have been training pokemon long since before then." He gestured to the mega sceptile at his side. It seemed her saying the cyndaquil's name had gotten the fire type's attention and hopes up for a battle, and Olivia had to break the news to her, but while Huang Chen got a lecture and another chance to fight, so did the cyndaquil, ironically both of their opponents were bunnelbys, and both were knocked out rather swiftly. Olivia seemed amused by Cayenne's eagerness, though Vince glanced up as a pokemon started rushing for Huang Chen. "Actually, I think that, is an eager bidoof." Vince suggested, pointing out the bidoof with a chuckle. Huang Chen hadn't noticed it yet though, so Vince stepped in before the bidoof could reach her. "Huang Chen, behind you." He instructed, and at last the charmander turned to see the beaver pokemon charging at her. She gave it a good thump of her tail though, much like she had with the bunnelby, and it was knocked out. Afterwards Huang Chen made her way back to Vince fully, and they finished making their way to the Gym. "There it is." Vince pointed the building out to Olivia. "Were you looking to battle Viola now, or did you just want to know where the gym was?" He asked curiously.

Valerian looked away after, what she determined to be, an appropriate amount of eye contact had been made. It was reassuring to know that at least one of the pokemon was amicable, and though she chose not to strike up a conversation right then, at least she knew she had the option. Besides, from what she understood, she'd at least have one chance to introduce herself to the Sceptile. Olivia, who was still looking idly up at the sky, missed the look of surprise that passed over Vince's face, though she turned accordingly when he spoke up, a hint of incredulity in the one word. She blinked and listened to Vince explain himself, and although he didn't suspect her word to be a lie he simply didn't see her as reigning from the old city. The young woman laughed good-naturedly before she smirked, "well, that's because you haven't seen me in my kimono," she explained easily, though her tone still hinted to teasing. "The image really comes together when I'm in it and have my hair up." She paused to think, her smirk growing into a grin. "If there was time I'd show you it. I bet you wouldn't have a doubt in your mind then."
Olivia allowed herself to calm down and become semi-serious by the time Vince explained that he was from Johto, Blackthron in fact. "Huh," she huffed, amused. "What a small world." Despite her lie, it actually was rather likely. Kanto, her genuine home region, and Johto were within a stone's throw of each other, and throughout the years she'd gone to Johto several different times, Ecruteak being one of the cities she'd visited. It was so quaint, and old-fashioned, almost in a different time zone than the busy, hustle-and-bustle city of Celadon that she came from. It was wonderful. "My family and I took vacations here when I was younger and I fell in love with the region," she admitted the half-truth. "Il m'a même inspiré pour apprendre le français," she spoke fluently, the foreign language falling from her tongue, then went on to translate. "It even inspired me to learn French." Again, another half-truth. She wasn't the biggest fan of lying, so sprinkling a little truth onto her alias every now and then helped her conscience. "What about you?"
Valerian walked behind the two trainers, bringing up the rear and giving her the perfect spot to keep an eye out for anything suspicious. It was a small city, with nothing out of the ordinary as far as the eye could see, but she knew from experience how deceiving looks could be. Unfortunately for her, it was hard to concentrate when she had two curious pokemon shooting off question after question about subjects that, in all honesty, she couldn't answer. It wasn't as if she didn't want to answer, she just wasn't equipped to answer each and every one of them. Thankfully a savior came into the midst, Lin stepping in to playfully scold Cayenne and Ginseng, which was more than enough to get the former to turn her inquiries onto her. "Oooh," Cayenne bobbed her head up and down, rather pleased with this information. "Oh, uhm, what's a mega?" she asked next, unsure of what that exactly entailed. It sounded cool though! A 'Mega' Sceptile. Maybe she could be a Mega Cyndaquil!
Olivia smiled, pleased that her joke about her family's names elicited a laugh from Vince, who later suggested that she had a rather unfortunate family. "But it's quite the opposite," she assured him. "I can always start up a conversation with strangers with just this one story." She tipped her head to the side and listened as Vince admitted to never having heard of anyone named Olive before. She shrugged, taking no offense in it. "That just makes me all the more unique," she pointed out, her smile growing into a grin. "Besides we food-named children are rare breeds, you should count yourself lucky that you've met one now. It's truly an honor."
The pinkette shook her head in light amusement, even after it'd been explained to her she still found the idea of Vince wanting to take her picture humorous. "Really? I think there's no better way to ask, with those sort of requests," she mused. "No use in beating around the bush, just go ahead and ask." It seemed Viola did that, so why shouldn't other people be able to? Of course, one would have to explain what exactly they'd do with those sort of photos once taken, legality and all that. But with Viola she doubted she'd ever do anything sinister with her photos. "Oh, those sound nice. I'd love to see those," she spoke aloud, her curiosity piqued. The group was getting closer to the gym, they'd already taken two rights at this point, and Olivia found herself nodding along as Vince spoke. "I can tell," she admitted and craned her neck back to look at Lin, and then at the quieter Xui who trailed at his heels. Recognition brightened her gaze, as did a bit of excitement, but both emotions were carefully masked, hidden beneath honest awe, when she next looked up at Vince. "Both of your pokemon respect you, and look rather strong. It's impressive, really."
When Cayenne's name had been called she'd thought that, surely, it'd be because of an upcoming battle, but, unfortunately, that couldn't have been further from the truth. Thankfully, her disappointment didn't last long as Olivia directed her attention to a wild pokemon for her to take on, the exact same species of pokemon Huang Chen had taken on, coincidentally. Olivia, who had teasingly commented on her pokemon's overzealousness, looked up when the phrase was repeated by Vince, who pointed out an actual Bidoof. "Well speak of the devil," she joked, eyes following Huang Chen as she made quick work of the little beaver.
Cayenne only just finished her battle with the Bunnelby when an odd, yellow and blue worm flopped out of a nearby alley. Cayenne turned back around to look at Olivia, waiting for her permission before she joyously charged at the Dunsparce. She hit it head on, surprising the pokemon, but was unable to knock it out completely like she'd had the last pokemon. Thankfully, the pokemon was more concerned in hardening its defenses than attacking, which allowed Cayenne to execute one last attack to knock her opponent unconscious.
She gave a victory cry before she came toddling back to Olivia, who made sure to praise her properly, before the two collected themselves and rejoined Vince and Huang Chen. Olivia looked up at the building Vince pointed out as the gym, her hands moving up steadily to rest on her hips. It certainly looked official. "No, not now," she answered with a shake of her head. "I just wanted to know where it was. But, if you want, we can go take a gander and check out those photos," she suggested.

Vince wasn't surprised as Olivia laughed off his comment. She probably got that a lot, though her response was not expected. When Olivia suggested that a kimono would fix the connection between her and Ecruteak, Vince blinked, somewhat surprised by the suggestion, not so much the suggestion itself, but the teasing manner in which she presented it, which didn't help. Vince quickly averted his gaze as she continued on about how she could dress up for him. "That... Won't be necessary." He insisted in a strained tone, picking up his walking pace stubbornly. Goodness, what had he gotten himself into with this girl? At least Cheria hadn't been so forward. Thankfully the teasing died down as she amused herself over the fact that they were both from Johto, allowing Vince to get ahold of himself again and ask Olivia why she was in Kalos. Apparently she had taken family vacations to Kalos and she fell in love with the region. Vince could certainly see the appeal, it was quite lovely here, and the food was pretty great too. Suddenly she began speaking in French, which Vince couldn't understand a word of, but thankfully Olivia translated for him. "I see...." He nodded. That was a nice little history, unlike his reasons for coming to Kalos, which Vince anticipated her questioning next, but that didn't stop him from sticking his left hand in his pocket to better hide his tattoo and shifting uncomfortably when she asked. "Ah, well since I'd grown up in Johto and seen all it has to offer, I wanted a change of scenery. Kanto was a bit too close to home, so Kalos seemed like a bigger change." He lied smoothly. "Though I looked over the starters that Kalos had to offer and I wasn't really impressed, so I stopped by Kanto on the way to pick up Huang Chen here." He continued. "I'll have to go back to Kanto eventually, but for now I'm training here." He explained. Meanwhile Lin was answering questions of her own, amused by the curious little cyndaquil in her midst. She pointed to the megastone hanging around her neck. ('Mega evolution is another form of evolution that a few fully evolved pokemon can achieve with the help of a megastone.') She explained, then pointed to the mega cuff around Vince's wrist. ('My megastone isn't enough alone though, my trainer needs a key stone to activate mine, it's there embedded in the tool on his wrist.') Vince noticed the sceptile pointing to their stones as she talked to Olivia's cyndaquil and gave a light chuckle. ('Mega evolution is a sign of a very strong bond between trainer and pokemon. Vince and I have been partners for quite some time now, we worked hard to achieve mega evolution. I'm sure that if you train hard to become a Typhlosion, and find the right stones, you can mega evolve with Olivia's help too.') She assured Cayenne sweetly, arching her long body downwards to give the fire type a motherly, encouraging nuzzle on her cheek. As Olivia explained her name, Vince couldn't keep from commenting how unfortunate it sounded, but surprisingly she seemed rather proud of her unique name, especially since she could strike up a conversation with the story alone. Vince chuckled at that. "Yeah, I have to agree with you there, since you've made me a living example of that fact." He agreed, his chuckles turning into laughter as she insisted that food named children were a rare breed that he should feel honored to meet. "Ah, well don't I feel special. Your presence graces me miss Olive." He grinned, giving a small bow. Ridiculous as Olivia was, she was certainly fun and interesting.
When Vince insisted that he wouldn't be so forward in asking for her picture, she seemed to think that it was the best way to do things, to be up front and ask. "I agree with the methodology, it was the timing to which I was referring to not being so forward on. You said so yourself, I should, and would, have at least gotten a name before asking to take a picture of you." Vince smiled a bit once again, a somewhat wry but pleasant smile all the same. He then explained that Viola was said to keep her best shots of her battles in a gallery within the gym, and that seemed to pique Olivia's interest. "A fan of photography I take it then, or at least art?" Vince asked curiously. Olivia inquired about Huang Chen somewhat given her eager and perhaps overzealous appetite for battle. He had explained his situation as a trainer as it was, and Olivia was not surprised at all by the fact that he'd been training pokemon long before obtaining his license, pointing out the other two pokemon as strong looking and clearly respectful of him. Vince smiled a bit at that, a bit of pride welling up within him at the words. He raised a hand to the back of his head, running his hand through his hair sheepishly. "Ah... Thank you." He nodded gratefully. Though he couldn't help but comment on the irony of her mention of eager bidoof, since one was charging for Huang Chen not long after. A bit more battling with the wild pokemonin the area and they had finally reached the gym, which prompted Vince to ask if she actually planned on challenging it now or if she had just wanted the directions.
After giving the gym her due observance, she finally answeered that she actually wasn't planning on challenging it quite yet. He nodded in understanding, being in the same boat himself, though she read his mind, suggesting that they at least go inside and check out the photo gallery he had mentioned. "Heh, I was actually about to suggest the same." Vince pointed out, amused, walking ahead and holding the door open for her so that they could both enter. Inside looked more like an art museum rather than a gym. It was somewhat surprising really, but Vince didn't mind as he stepped up to the closest picture to the entrance and admired the shot. It was of a froakie battling Viola's vivillon, bubbles from the frog starter were captured expertly in the lens' aim. "Who knew something so full of hardship, could look so beautiful..." He mused thoughtfully.
As expected, Vince was able to discern that Olivia was in fact, teasing him, what she didn't expect was his response. But oh, was it rich. The change in tone, the way he suddenly picked up speed. At first, Olivia was surprised, but once she understood a large grin began to slowly creep its way onto his face. The woman picked up speed, quickly catching up to Vince and allowing her to walk comfortably by his side. "Are you suuuuure?" she extended the last word, goofy grin visible. She leaned forward, fingers knitting together behind her, and peered up at the brunette from an angle. "I could have one air-mailed to me. It wouldn't take too long. Or, even better, I'm sure there might one or two shops that offer it." She couldn't help but to have a little fun at the expense of her new companion, if only because his reaction had taken her by surprise. Vince didn't seem like the kind of guy to--could she call it flustered?--be so unraveled by a little tease such as that one.
Olivia eventually eased off him, her body straightening back out, as they segued into their reasons behind traveling through Kalos. "Mhm," she hummed in confirmation. "So, if you ever need anything translated, I'm your gal." She nodded empathetically as Vince explained his own reasons, she understood how, after several years, one could get tired of the same region. Familiarity was only entertaining for so long. "There's nothing wrong with that." She paused and for a few seconds she narrowed her eyes in light scrutiny. "This may sound weird," she started, which was a great way to start a conversation. "But I think a Charmander fits you." She looked down between Huang Chen and Vince, then gave another nod. "It just does."
Cayenne craned her neck, eyes traveling up Lin's body and stopped at her neck, where a peculiar stone hung. "Oooooh," she bobbed her head once more, finally starting to understand. That wasn't all of it though, and at the grass lizard's guided direct she looked at Vince's wrist, where an odd bracelet resided. It was pretty, though she doubted it was a simple fashion statement, considering that Lin had taken the time to point it out. "How long have you two been partners?" Was her next question, though she'd already begun to squirm at the very idea of being able to mega evolve. She gave a squeak in surprise when nuzzled, only for it to melt into sheepish giddiness. "I'll train as hard as I can, so that I can become the best mega Typhlosion ever!" she promised, determined.
When Olivia explained it, Vince eventually agreed with her that her name made for an instant conversation-starter; as he was, living proof. "Exactly." She gave a nod of her head, breaking out into another smile when he went along with her jest. "As you should!" she responded, and gave a bit of curtsey to his bow.
Vince went on to explain that it wouldn't have been the manner in which he, hypothetically, would have asked, but rather the lack of familiarity between the two of them, at least at the time. "Ah," she gave a nod before cracking a smile, playful as usual. "Well, now that we do know each other's names, feel free to ask for a picture. I'll probably say yes." Olivia didn't try and hide her impressment once she learned that Viola had her own art gallery, featuring photographs from previous battles. Even though she never tried her own hand at it, she could still appreciated the beauty pictures managed to catch. Vince, apparently able to catch on, asked as much. "Yeah, I mean, what's not to like? If you get it in the right instant, you've captured a vivid moment you can turn back to."
It didn't come as much of a surprise when Vince admitted to already having some experiencing with pokemon, it showed in two pokemon he already had about him. As well as in the way calm way he directed Huang Chen into battle, he wasn't so much of a commanding her, but rather, guiding her. If she thought about it, she could actually learn a thing or two just from watching him. That would have to wait though, as they had finally arrived at their destination. Olivia looked at the gym, committing the building to memory and adding it to her mental layout of the city. When asked if she was ready to challenge the gym leader, she confessed that she wasn't ready, and instead suggested they simply go inside to look at the photographs. "Heh. Great minds think alike, I guess," she joked when Vince admitted to thinking the same thing.
They looked inside, and to Olivia's great delight found themselves in an art museum, dedicated to Viola's photos, all framed-- though it made her wonder just where her eventual gym battle would take place. She didn't concern herself with it however, at least not now, and instead followed Vince up to nearest picture, which displayed a battle between a Froakie and a Vivillon. It wasn't that simple, however, and the pinkette stood still for a moment, appreciating the skill, until Vince spoke, speaking his thoughts aloud. "Of course it is. The sort of determination, it has its own beauty."
