Grinning ear to ear like a wolf Nykyrian slowly nodded as if trying to contain his excitement. if you have any second thoughts of your . . minion i can assuage for you. either-wise i can keep your followers rather free to go about bringing you forth. Taking care for once in millennia the demon changed his appearance anachronism to more modern look as if he stepped in to a more formal attire . Carefully looking up at Melinda with that grin of what nightmares speak of Nykyrain spoke slowly with a great deal of elegance and touch of charm.
i will not lie to you about having an ulterior motives about what i do in the long run, but do trust me when i say most of it is beneficial and a rather simple request for some motivation while i keep those pesky senshi busy until this seal is broken. trust me ill find some suitable arrangements at the least for the short term. but i could stir up a bit more then the hounds at night to play out the longer game for you for just a small price. Hidding as much of his own palpable darkness to more of an uneasy feeling the demon plastered on a glee filled expression just curious if he could indeed have his cake and eat it to.

Melinda felt a flitter of annoyance. She wasn't in the condition to do much of anything, having done so much at Nyk's urging to get them out of there. She wasn't even sure that she was concealing her current weakness all that well. Perhaps the demon's eagerness was all but blinding to him. "Whatever you plan on doing you need to leave my pet alone, she's got her task." Melinda was actually letting Nyk leave because she was curious about what he would do. She also assumed Nyk would become a puff of smoke and she'd never see him again. "Wait...wha...What is it you're desiring from me then?"

Looking with a tilted head the demon spoke rather candidly "I've been down here so long, lost track at this point...I'll take something. Eventually. This right now is literally a close second on nice things in an eternity, so if you find anything better, we'll call it good." He said streching a mix of sarcasm and genuine honesty as the demon readied himself to leave. "Besides, leaving you down here alone for much longer would be a shame, you're the only other person I've met who I can say I "Like". Now if you'd be as so kind as to send me up I'll be on "best" behavior and at least save some fun for you." He said with a small chuckle as Nykyrian stretched out trying to prepare for a rather sharp change again.
Melinda found her feet stable as she walked over to Nyk, and stood in front of him. She pulled a strain of hair from her head and tied it around his wrist. "That will give you my protection against the barrier. You should be able to pass through easily now. And..." she looked up at him, her gaze belonging to him for an entire moment. Her usual haughty look melted off, leaving a softer expression. She trailed a few fingers gently from his forehead along his jawline, pausing at his chin to gently pull his face down into a quick kiss.
"For luck." She said quietly.
Reciprocating the affection and feeling a soft breathless feeling the demon shone a bright pink, before abruptly leaving in an ebony black smoke as the demon arose from the ground on the surface. In seconds the demon looked so bewildered as he tried to get his barings. The place looked like a bookstore on the edge of the town. "Well, it is rude to keep a lady waiting." It was a short matter of minutes the bookstore owner had been kindly persuaded to look for a different abode as the demon stode to the basement and cut glyphs to the floor. Using the small bit of magic still coursing in him, Nyk reached down to the depths where Melinda was. "Well hello down there. You'll be pleased to know I found a small book shop for the cause. It's a bit cozy but you know I think its a start". He said with that unnatural smoothness, shortly after the demon finished his conversation, he took a small stroll around the neighborhood as supernatural howls filled the air and a few street lights just happened to burn out."Well let's have a bit of fun tonight, after all I can't have any problems. He said before transforming with a laugh as his armor soon covered him head to toe.
Cae had tried to hang back from the group after the dessert fiasco, but to no avail. He felt the looks of concern and curiosity growing ever more concentrated in his direction. Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer. Huffing out a sigh of indignant resignation, Caelen approached the dinner table in two long strides and planted his hands down rather firmly on the wooden surface.
Alright, fine. You can all quit with the looks. I know what you are thinking and not saying. I'm a nervous wreck right now, and with good reason. So let me just get this out on the table while I still have the nerve.
Cae reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out the object he had been pawing at for some time now. He placed it on the table where all could see and waited. The gold metal of the small broach glinted in the fluorescent light of the kitchen, the green gems supplying a subtle accent. His gaze never wavered from Aylin, who he knew would recognize it in a heartbeat. Yep, there it was, the million and one questions forming in her mind were practically written in her expression. He'd let her make the first move, get it out her system.

Aylin watched closely as Caelen first rushed into the kitchen with a look of dread upon his face that spoke of something forgotten and possibly left in the oven too long. When the minor kitchen crisis had been resolved Caelen came back into the dining area looking even more flustered and out of sorts than before. It was enough to draw the attention of nearly everyone around the table, including Kai. Caelen was still fidgeting and playing around with something inside the pocket of his dress pants. The concern, the worry, and the fear written across his face had the butler not wanting to interact with the rest of those in the informal dining area of the manor. Looking around the table Aylin saw Terra, Aeris, and Prim all watching as Caelen nervously played with whatever he held inside his front pants pocket. As he looked up at those remaining in the dining area, Caelen let out a heavy sigh before taking two long steps to the table and placing the hand within his front pocket upon the table.
The moment Caelen's hand opened Aylin's eyes went wide as she saw the ever familiar green gems of the Token given to her through the grace and magic of Gaia herself. The Token, while showing signs of age, had not lost its luster in however many years the butler had owned it. Any other member of the Alliance would have immediately asked a hundred questions or more. Aylin knew if the Brothers and Sisters saw the Token in the hands of a demon their first question would have been who had he stolen it from. If Caelen was expecting her to instantly begin asking those hundred or more questions he would be severely disappointed. Aylin stood up from her chair and walked over to stand opposite Caelen on her side of the table as she looked him in the eyes.
Reaching behind her back Aylin produced her own glistening Token within her right hand never taking her eyes off Caelen. Placing her hand on the table, Aylin opened it revealing her nearly identical Token that was in near mint condition. Without moving her head Aylin looked from Caelen to the identical Tokens that now lay in the middle of the table and back again. After what felt like several long minutes of silence Aylin finally spoke breaking the silence within the dining area.
Only one word was uttered. There was no time and no need for one hundred questions or more. Only one word was needed. "How?" Aylin asked in a tone of voice that contained every last question she knew Caelen was expecting to come out of her mouth.
Such a small word, but overflowing with a myriad of meanings given the circumstance. Caelen closed his eyes at Aylin’s single loaded query. In some ways, she had made his job that much easier. In others, it piled on the worries even more. Well, at least she isn’t hitting me with a barrage. I should be grateful I’m being allowed to explain myself on my own terms, the butler thought with a mix of apprehension and relief. He remained motionless, eyes closed, for a few moments, meditating to gather strength and get his jumbled thoughts into some semblance of order. It simply wouldn’t do to start haphazardly in the middle. When he finally felt a small pool of calm at the apex of his emotional storm, Caelen opened his eyes and looked at Aylin. The butler spoke to the room at large, but his gaze never left the pixie senshi.
Zephyros told you of the war against the dragon traitor Melinda. The previous generation of senshi warriors fought in that war…..as did I. It was not my first encounter with the transforming warriors, not by a long shot. In fact, I traveled with one particular senshi for some time and aided in bringing the scattered warriors together. But that is a story for another time. My point in telling you this is that the threads of my past are twined together with the senshi, and in more ways than one. Several years after the war against Melinda was finally won, I found myself wandering aimlessly from one place to another yet again. I was slipping into despair for the millionth time and didn’t see much point in my existence after….
At this Caelen paused, not wanting to go on, not wanting to say the words as if to speak them was to make it definitive. A small pain in Caelen’s chest reared its ugly head as it did every time he thought of *her*. Swallowing hard, the butler shoved his pain down deep and continued.
…after losing someone I had been rather close to. I was so lost in my personal Hell that I nearly ran straight into one of the most important and daunting situations I’ve encountered in my existence. One minute I was staring at the dirt on a forest pathway, and the next I was surrounded by a soft green glow that could not be described as anything other than otherworldly. I looked up, and saw the great lady herself. Gaia stood before me, in person. There is no mistaking her for anyone else. You know when you are in the presence of the Mother Goddess. Possessing no overblown pride or any real loyalty to my kind, I found no shame in falling to my knees in submission. I couldn’t speak. I wasn’t meant to. I can still hear her words to me as clearly as if she were standing here now…
Caelen's voice became soft and reverent as he repeated the words he had heard so many years ago.
Caelen Evernight, I have watched you for a long time now. Your heart is pure in contrast to your heritage. Your acts of kindness and virtuous soul are more admirable to me than the most immaculate priests of my temples. Your service to and with the senshi warriors has not gone unnoticed. You are meant to be a part of their lives now and in eons to come. I fear a great evil will awaken in the near future. I task you with both the training and protection of the senshi who will face one of the most daunting enemies this world has known. They will gather together when the awakening calls them. The tools and knowledge they will need to emerge victorious from the dark days ahead will be found at your place of gathering, where they have been kept safe for hundreds of years.
I felt a warm, gentle touch on my skin. The Great Lady took my hand in hers and placed her token of favor and mission in my trembling hand. Her smile was genuine even as her eyes showed both sorrow and hope. I looked down at the token she had given me, not so much seeing the token but rather what it meant for me and the future. When next I looked up, I was alone once again on that forest pathway. Since that day, I have been waiting. In all honesty, there were times when I was sure I had dreamed it all up and fell back into despair. But I could not deny the very solid presence of that broach in my hand. I think that is what kept me from simply allowing my own kind to catch up with me and end my existence. Then I felt the call of someone seeking aid. In an old abandoned chapel under the hills of Barton, I met the members of BFAA. I had a feeling then that the time would soon come for the task to which I had been entrusted. The rest you all pretty much know. When I felt that dark disturbance a few days ago, I knew the time was at hand. Then all of you began to arrive.
Caelen paused a few moments with a thoughtful expression on his face. He softly knocked his knuckles against the wooden table before him as he debated how best to continue.
As far as finding this place of knowledge goes, I have a pretty good hunch that it is under the manor and the surrounding grounds, perhaps even a bit further out. I’ve looked for that entrance all over this manor, and come up with nothing. Believe me, I’ve gone over it with a fine toothed comb. I know every crevice and hidden passage or lever this old building has to offer. I’ve got a strong feeling the entrance we need is somewhere out in the back gardens. I’ll check into that tomorrow or maybe later tonight. I couldn’t begin to fathom what we’ll find once we locate the secret archive, but we’ll figure it all out together.
Caelen paused briefly again, and in that brief pause his thoughtful expression tuned to pain and even a touch of anger. His voice was more raw and ragged with mixed emotions when he spoke again. What rubs me raw is that Gaia would entrust your protection to me when I couldn’t even save one solitary senshi….damn. I couldn’t…….I couldn’t save her. I……
The butler’s head dropped in emotional agony. Silent tears fell from his eyes to the wooden table, darkening the wood stain briefly. A solitary, whispered word, a name perhaps, ended the butler’s revelation, just as it had begun things.
Venilia…

Aylin continued to lock eyes with Caelen his gaze never leaving her as he told his tale. The simple single word of how opened a portal into the demon butler's mysterious past. Aylin had figured Caelen knew of the ancient Senshi as he was essentially part of the grater pantheon of Gaia itself. However, the royal pixie had never imagined that the butler himself had worked hand in hand with the first Senshi. If he knew the human Senshi then there was a very good chance he had known Ailsa as well. How well he knew her and what was truth and what was simply part of Neela's legends translated from the ancient language would have to wait for another day.
It was apparent from the way Caelen talked that something of great emotional value was lost to him. From the way the tone of his voice changed, the strategic pauses in his tale, the changes in facial expression, the choked speech, and the broken eye contact it was obvious the butler was reliving a personal pain he did not wish to talk about. It was something Aylin was all too familiar with because even after eight years she herself had difficulty discussing the final months of her late husband's life. The softly whispered name at the end of Caelen's tale had Aylin's eyes going wide for the briefest of moments. She was real.
The child from her favorite legend as a little one was real; Venilia's Shoes had actually taken place and the girl was more than just a character in Granny Neela's stories of Ailsa. Just knowing something from Ailsa's life story, aside from her husband and baby boy, was true had Aylin wanting to know more. Were the stories of her death true or had they become larger than life over the centuries as Ailsa's legend grew? Just what connection to the Senshi, particularly Venilia, did Caelen have?
Whatever Venilia was to Caelen be it a partner, sister, best friend, or something more the legends did not say. In fact, the legends and stories of Ailsa's life did not make mention of a demon warrior aiding the ancient Senshi. Aylin wasn't about to bring up Caelen's past pains before he was ready to talk about them. It would not be right to force out something that caused so much suffering for the proud demon butler in front of the others. The focus at that moment, as far as Aylin was concerned, needed to shift towards assuring Caelen that what happened in the past, even if it was to a degree repeating itself, would not happen again.
"Caelen look at me," Aylin responded breaking the silence in the room in a soft reassuring tone her gaze never leaving the butler, "I am very grateful that you are here to watch over and teach the young ones. However, you must remember this. I have had ninety-four years of training as a Senshi for this new war. Fifteen of those years were spent in formal military training. The remaining years of my training has been spent learning from as many individuals as possible every last bit of what I know when it comes to how to protect myself from nearly any danger. I may make many mistakes and I am definitely not invulnerable and I have my faults but you don't have to worry about protecting me from that witch. You and I will protect and train these young ones together. That is why we have our Tokens. That is what I believe Gaia asks of us both even if I myself am destined to carry on Ailsa's legacy and place within the Senshi."
Chef shot a puzzled look as Caelen pulled a small broach out of his pocket. He really wasn't quite sure what to make of the object, nor was he sure what it meant. His confusion was compounded as Aylin pulled out a near-identical object and replied to Caelen with just a single word. And as the mysterious butler opened up about a significant segment of his past, Chef simply stood silent. He followed along with Caelen's recollection quite well, but he couldn't even pretend to know half of what the butler was talking about, let alone how much those past events took a toll on him. But there was at least one thing that Chef did know, one thing that resonated with him.
"Caelen... Regardless of what happened in the past, Gaia did entrust you to protect this newest generation of senshi. You're right, the time has come. The senshi are here now, once again, and there's a very real threat to Barton that only they can face." Chef's tone became more urgent. He didn't want Caelen to simply forget about what happened in the past, nor was he telling his good friend to simply "get over it". More than anything else, he was trying to tell Caelen that the new senshi need him. If they did not act soon, everyone in the Manor would be reminiscing over the destruction of Barton and how they failed. "Town hall is gone. How much longer until this dark warrior destroys the whole town? We've gotta get these girls back to Barton before it's too late. And I will do whatever I possibly can to make that happen. Don't you ever think you're alone in your task to protect the senshi."

None of the words of encouragement really bolstered Caelen, be he knew two things for sure: his duty and that Chef was right.
Chef is right. You all cannot afford to stay trapped behind the manor walls while chaos run rampant in Barton. Right now it's not a town...it's a war zone. It is your duty to battle Dark Vortex. The sooner, the better. I suggest you all finish up dinner, shower, and get to bed. You will need your strength for tomorrow. The first order of business will be to get those blasted doppels out of the way. Those who can transform should pair up with someone who cannot. Work together and protect each other. I cannot help you this time. You either succeed together or fail together. Now, I have things to attend to. I bid you all good night.
And that ended Caelen's part in the day. Now it was up to the senshi to figure out a plan of action to get rid of their dark doubles and do something about the rouge senshi wreaking havoc in town.
Nyk noticing a lack of anyone or any reaction seemed very irked as he wandered the streets of barton with a level of rage quickly rising and almost broiling as there was seemingly no one. a small spaztic twitch addled one of his eyes as the demon saw watery figures and with a soft sigh of relief took it upon himself to go over and make friends Finally. . . Finally something to smash and destroy. aaaahhh Releasing a few strikes at the gate to the doppels confusion the demon ground against it in vain as he made little progress other than being repulsed by the barrier. With two hands firmly on his sword the Arch demon swung with more determination and strength as a Phwoom came from the barrier as the demon and his energy firmly were kept at bay thanks to the near by doppels.
Breaking the stalemate with a large waves of energy wrapping around the barrier like veins crashing down around the grounds before giving up in breaking it all together as it remained firm. Well well well, i wonder if they will come out to play.

Prim had so many questions about everything going on, but as the others had sternly said, the war was still on-going. They didn't have time to mess around and feel sorry about things. She did feel sorry, she did feel guilty, she did feel weak. It was all normal, but she wouldn't get anywhere if she just stood back and watched things happen. If she was truly destined to become a senshi, it was her job to keep herself and the others safe. Most of all, it was her duty to stop anything else from happening. As those thoughts came to mind, she heard the loud crashing sound of the barrier being penetrated. Prim abruptly stood up from her seat. "Even if I'm too weak, even if I'm not ready; I have to go out and fight! It's only getting worse, and I can't just stand by and watch things happen! Our friend Hydro is in danger, this town is in danger, and pretty soon by the sound of things, this manor will be in danger too! If we don't do something it's only going to get worse!" She mustered all the confidence she could, and ran out the door; wand in tow. She feared the worst, but it was her duty to be brave and guide the others.
Outside she could see the large barrier of the doppels and a winged male. She quickly transformed, and encased herself in a butterfly barrier. She approached with caution and confronted the aqua beings. The doppels came in hordes trying to break through her own barrier. She hoped the others would join her, she knew she wouldn't be able to do it alone.
Seren stretched as she left the bathroom from changing into the borrowed pajama's it had been a long day, and it had left her with a lot to think about. Yawning she noticed something moving outside, with a jolt she realized it was Prim! Opening the window she leaned out to yell for Prim to stop but she to far already.
"Oh no what do I do, there's no way I could find everybody in time, but I think if I change as well I could jump down these window ledges" Quickly she began to make her way down to help Prim, along the way she spotted Aylin's cat resting by the window pausing just long enough to get his attention and then continuing on her way.
Spotting Prim she commented to her as she whipped a few doppels "What the heck are you thinking running out here like this alone!" heh though I'm not much better. If Kai wasn't near the window I wouldn't have been able to alert anyone.

Hearing the loud ruckus outside Leif seemed to have his eyes sharpen as his wings became pointed back brushing the walls and windows. Oh no, Lorelei . . . i am almost certain we need to head out front as quickly as possible. Biting his lower lip before feeling his way to the window and brightly shining in his aurora the young looking man smiled and held out a hand to lorelei as he clutched his medallion with the other and felt the armor encase him once more with that strobe of vibrant colours lighting up the room and the outside world. Feeling the heat and " seeing " the light the knight seemed alive once more enough to still stand up firm for another go of sorts with the doppels.
Giving an unsure but still self confident enough smile Leif would wait before jumping in to the fray right that second with out a bit of help this time Shall we? id like to help out if you'd like to tag in too and finally stop these things once more.
It was supposed to be a peaceful night, a quiet night, but fate was not going to be kind to the gray cat. Kai had originally thought he would be able to sneak off and get some well needed sleep in one of the many window sills around the upper floor of the manor. He thought for at least one night he could be what he looked like, a simple gray cat. Of course fate never saw him as a simple gray cat, especially when two nights prior fate stepped in and decided Kai needed to be able to speak again. Fate had decided Kai would be thrown into the middle of a war for the very heart and soul of a town he had not seen in two centuries when the little girl who “found” him traveled through Barton with her family in a simple wagon.
Kai had started off going into the room set aside for Aylin should she choose to stay overnight at the manor. Aylin had left the door to the room slightly ajar should the need arise for Kai to visit wherever it was set up for Cree's own menagerie of felines to commune with nature when inside the house, which had been a good thing. The moment Aylin's head met the pillow the diminutive princess did something very unladylike and began to snore rather loudly. Kai had tried several times to no avail to block out the sound coming from Aylin's wide open mouth. When his paws placed over his ears were not enough the gray cat crawled under a nearby pillow. When the pillow offered no relief by him being under it he dragged it on top of Aylin's head to muffle the snoring. Feeling the pillow upon her face, and without waking up or even breaking a single snore, Aylin batted the pillow clear across the bed nearly hitting Kai in the head. Fed up and tired Kai left the bed and the room and found an out of the way window sill to sleep in. With a stretch and a yawn the gray cat settled into a comfortable sleeping position.
It was not long before the grounds rung out with the sound of a massive dull thud first once then twice. Letting out a soft groan Kai placed his paw over his eyes hoping he had been imagining the noises he heard. However, the gray cat was in for a rude awakening when he heard someone climbing down the window ledges. Opening his eyes Kai groggily looked out the window to see the girl named Seren frantically trying to make her way towards the front gate. Looking closer towards the front gates of the manor Kai saw exactly what had Seren playing free climber down the side of the manor. Every last bit of sleep deprived grogginess immediately left Kai's body when he saw Prim near the manor gates wand in hand summoning forth a kaleidoscope of pink butterflies transforming her into Senshi form. By the time the transformation had ended Kai saw Seren give him a quick look that spoke volumes, find someone anyone to help.
"s**t that girl is going to get herself killed doing that," Kai swore as he ran back to the room hoping someone else had heard the noise from outside.
Jumping on the bed Kai knew he'd have to do whatever it took to get the still snoring deep sleeping Aylin awake and out of bed in order to help Prim and stop whoever caused the loud thuds. As fate chose to hate Kai that night it had decided his next move was going to be one that could possibly get him in a world of trouble with Aylin. Exposing the claws on his right front paw Kai began to lightly scratch at Aylin's left arm. After four quick scratches the snoring abruptly ended as Aylin opened her eyes and stared right into Kai's face.
"You better have a good reason for waking me in the middle of the night cat," Aylin demanded none too pleased at being woken up a deep sleep.
Kai wasted no time in responding to Aylin, "There's someone or something at the gates of the manor trying to get in and both Prim and Seren are out there alone against it. You have to get out there and help them before they get themselves killed."
The moment Aylin heard Prim and Seren were trying to take on an attacker untested and alone the diminutive pixie bolted out of bed not caring she was barefoot and clad only in a tank top and pedal pusher pajamas grabbing her trusted sword and brooch as she ran out the door of her room letting out a long very loud string of F bombs. Finding the same window Kai had been sleeping in Aylin threw open the window making a silent plea before jumping. Wings don't fail me now, Aylin silently wished.
Starting at the opposite side of the hallway Aylin ran as fast as she could for the small space leaping out of the window while flapping her wings to propel herself closer to the ensuing battle. The moment the pixie's feet touched the ground Aylin took off running at top speed unsheathing her sword ready to stop whatever had caused her to miss her much needed sleep.
"I'm coming Prim and don't you dare go and get yourself killed on me," Aylin said between breaths to nobody in particular.

DV saw the sun setting as she perched on a rooftop, glaring at Ayel who was slinking around nearby. If you hate her so much, teach her a lesson. Melinda's voice rang in her ears once more. "I...don't want to." DV admitted. Oh? Alright. I'll take care of things from here. DV blinked, "What? When, when did it become night? Wasn't it sunset?" "Of course it was, now it's night."
DV spun around, realizing she was back at where this started. The center of the city. She wasn't hearing this in her head. Red eyes, red spikes, red wings, a striking beauty, with hair darker than night long and cascading, parted by the spikes that started on her head and trailed down her arms and along a long, long red tail. Bright eyes, looking at her, ruby lips in a smile, 4 pairs of wings on her back. Black armor, a corset and long black boots, but did little to obscure her human-like curves. A bright red jewel sat along her crown, and a red star emblem glowed on her forehead. Delicate blue jewels sat on one earlobe of her pointed ears, and in her hands was a long staff that glowed a soft green light, looking like it belonged on an old, ancient tree. "Ethelinda," Melinda said with a calm tone, and embraced the bewildered warrior before her. "You have long awaited to know who you are. Child of the clan, I welcome you as your Alpha. You shall be well rewarded for services." Odd, broken memories swam over her, erratic energy around Ayel, a cut on the hand, blood on the ground, strange lines in the city center..."What...what's going on? What did I...?" DV, mentally exhausted and broken, had no recourse but to collapse. "Now, now, awake up, now is not the time to rest, you are needed." Melinda scolded softly. Almost to sudden to be believed, DV's eyes snapped open. "Oh don't worry Melinda, I don't plan on leaving your side until we have discussed the future." The words came from DV's voice brightly.
Leif floating down from the window with lorelei in tow rushed towards prim with haste before realizing what they were getting in to. " seeing " the light rippling off the doppels and armored figure the young man turned to face lorelei with an apprehensive look. i know i am not in the best of states nor would i impose that i fight that thing, but right now i feel it prudent to occupy that things time. so with your permission. . . . he said trailing off as small droplets of energy twinkled in the night before landing on the ground like a dew. it was something all together breathtaking as the celestial pooled his energy carefully waiting not wanting to waste everything on another flip of the coin
