"It was all right," Phobius allowed.
"Books," was the immediate and unhesitating reply.

"Well, I actually got my hands on a book for making Dark Arts counterparts to Light Arts, figured Phobius would enjoy it - he'd be able to make his own spells, since he's allergic to Light Arts and all," Eris answered with a shrug as she looked around.
However, before Trevor could show the spiders the picture, there was a distinct sizzling sound as an opaque jar gained a fair-sized hole, and then a blur roughly the size of a housecat shot out of it at Aran. When the pale-skinned boy caught it between his thumb and index finger, it was revealed to be a surprisingly large black spider with two little imp-like horns, large, serrated, sharp front legs, long, similarly serrated fangs, and a visibly larger-than-normal abdomen as it struggled in his grip. Aran made some clicking noises that sounded suspiciously like scolding, and the spider stopped struggling, instead somehow giving Aran a dirty, rebellious look and... did it just flip him off? How did that even work?
"I don't suppose I can convince you to try this one?" Aran asked Trevor. "She's a crossbreed - part Brazilian wandering spider, part house spider, part Darwin's bark spider, part Palpimanus gibbulus, part Acromantula, all sentient. She has a magically enhanced lifespan, she's ridiculously fast and strong for her size, her webbing is stronger than steel, and her exoskeleton makes it so that you couldn't squash her if you tried. The horns help her sense her surroundings, giving her a sort of sixth sense so that sneak attacks don't work on her. She also has rather potent venom with corrosive properties that she can either inject or spit, which makes it rather difficult to keep her anywhere she doesn't want to be, and has a tendency to try to tear apart other spiders with nothing but her fangs and front legs if they provoke her, though she can also use those same fangs and legs for digging. I call her the Devil-horned spider, due to the two little horns on top of her head."
Meanwhile, the spider in question had realized that she wasn't getting out of Aran's grip anytime soon, and was now examining Trevor and the picture of Katherine curiously.

Phobius nodded, following Hermione into... whatever store it was she wanted to get a gift from.
"Well, you can't tell me I'm wrong - 'Mione REALLY likes books," Harry pointed out, having seen her eye-roll as he followed her.

"Actually, that's not rebellion, just her territorial instincts combined with an aggressive personality" Aran corrected. "As I mentioned, she has a tendency to attack other spiders. I happen to be a variant of spider Animagus and spend a lot of time in that form, so I fall into the 'other spiders' category. Either way, though, the final decision is up to her." He turned to the spider and made several clicking noises that started off an entire conversation. After a few moments, the spider nodded to itself and climbed up on top of Trevor's head, obviously not intending on moving.

Phobius allowed himself a faint smile when he saw their destination, easily guessing what Hermione was planning to do.
Harry similarly looked around, browsing for any books Hermione might be interested in.

"She's actually quite low-maintenance, due to her intelligence. For food, just let her hunt once a day and she'll be satisfied, though it never hurts to have some jerky or venison around for snacks. She grooms herself and excuses herself for bathroom breaks as well; about the only thing I can think of is that you'll probably need some sort of glass cage with a top she can exit from so she can make herself somewhere to rest," Aran answered, then glanced over at David. "Anything else I can get for you, gentlemen?"

Phobius nodded, allowing himself to be led away. "All right. Any suggestions?"
Harry nodded, grinning a little himself. "What were you planning on getting him?" he asked.

"The spider's on the house, since frankly it'll be a bit of a relief to see her go; being on guard that much is rather tiring. The books, however, are rather hard to find these days, and the clothes have special protective enchantments woven into every thread, so... 20 galleons." He took the card and swiped it before handing it back.
Eris quirked an eyebrow. "Knowing you, shouldn't that be more expensive?"
"The Winter Solstice is coming up, I think I can make a few allowances," Aran answered dismissively. "...Besides, I really am thankful for you taking the spider, the constant attacks simply because I'm a spider Animagus really were rather irritating."
The spider's answer was to flip him off, again... seriously, how the heck was it doing that?

Phobius seemed to accept that, starting to look around calculatingly.
Harry blinked. "Why something funny?"

"She's called a Devil-horned spider. As for the price, I'll charge you how I want to charge you, and if you don't like that, I'll gag you and charge you how I want to charge you anyway," was Aran's calm reply.
Eris shrugged. "Sure, why not?"

"Fair enough, just curious," Harry answered with a shrug.
Phobius nodded to the Granger parents in greeting even as he picked out three good kiddie brooms for Katherine's brothers. After a few moments, he picked up a book called "Quidditch Through the Ages" as well, figuring Katherine would probably enjoy it.

Katherine's parents and Eris soon managed to track down Harry, Katherine, and Katherine's little brothers, the spider on Trevor's head watching Katherine with interest.

The spider made some chirping and clicking sounds before jumping over to Katherine's head, being careful not to hurt her with its sharp legs; apparently it rather liked her.
Phobius quirked an eyebrow as he and Hermione came over. "What's with the spider?"
"Katherine's parents bought it for her - from what I got, it's some kind of super-spider or something."
