He picked up something bigger this time, and that did the trick.

As he slowly, creakily, painfully ascended the esoteric structure, a pipe gave way beneath his leg and the world turned into pain as he fell bodily through the scalding steam.
"I hate this place," he whispered again, a miserable mantra. "I hate it. ******** the Forge. ******** the Spire. ******** this."

The steam should by rights have evaporated right off the red-hot metal, but why would he ever be lucky? No. Of course instead it left a slick spot for his foot to catch on, and send him tumbling into some awful toothed gear that he was absolutely positive served no mechanical function except that of doling out misery.

You know what? Really, it was almost a relief to have an escape. Climb off the gear, get your bearings, fall right back onto it. At least that meant it was over.
He didn't even get to say "I hate this place" one more time.

Thean walked down the long steamy hallway towards the testing room where she got blasted last time. She really hoped that that didn't happen once more...
She started across with little incident however she got hit with a couple blasts of flame. But after she glided through to the next room.
The first thing Naiad noticed when she entered was the heat. Then as she descends downwards she starts to notice odd structures and flooring take the place of the rock and stone that was all around. A few contraptions and bits of machinery are also scattered here and there. Naiad finds all this rather interesting as most seem rather broken down.
Up ahead Naiad sees a warm glow and as she makes her way there she smiles. The room she enters seems huge and is filled with ramps and platforms as well as several hubs and enormous bits of technology. She can tell some of it still works but most look like they had been left a long time ago. She could also see some of the rooms still looked to have light on and there were occassional scorch marks on the walls.
Naiad looks over the edge of one of the platforms and her eyes widen at the sight of lava below. Gulping she stands once more and heads to the nearest accessible area. When she entered though it seemed to be a testing area. It did not look particularly safe inside but she needed to get through. She manages to get hit twice by some of the various flaming weapons that were being used and then just when she was almost out she got hit by a flaming shockwave that knocked her to the floor. Groaning in pain from her burns she somehow gets out of the room

Thean looked at the large generator. She rubbed her hands together. She WOULD do this this time. She started to climb but right off the bat, hot steam jet out at her. Just great.
When Naiad entered the next room she could immediately tell what it was used for. As if the total cold wasn't enough to tell her that this room was used to cool the machines, the giant fan blowing the cold air in would. Glaring at the fan she decides it needs to be taken out. As it was she was freezing and knew if she did not get rid of it soon she would probably freeze. Pulling out her weapon she attacks. She hits it and grins. Maybe she could get rid of it after all.
