On its own accord, Valzar's hoof raised and gently tucked the stray strands back behind her ear, "I don't think I understand..."

Me too. I've never felt this way before. She wanted to snuggle into him and comfort him in some way. I'm sorry I don't know how to calm your fears.

I could ask someone. One of the older Carpathians. They would probably know. A thought came unbidden before she had time to hide it. I don't want to go back there, though. They'll take me away from him...

Callista flushed again. "You heard that huh?" She swam away from him and stood near the edge. "I am unclaimed. My being around you will drive the males without lifemates mad. They will want to claim me before you can, before anyone can. Then they'll take me away and I'll never be able to see you or talk to you again." She took a deep breath. For some reason, thinking about that makes it hard to breath. If they did forbid me to see you, I think it would kill me. She was trying hard not to cry, the tears were burning her throat.

"It means that I'm a risk. I should be under guard right now, not out of my father's sight. The males would try to steal me and hide me, in hopes that I would be their lifemate. My lifemate wouldn't be happy with you being around me. Carpathian males are jealous creatures. If they knew that I kissed you, even touched you, they would hurt you." And there is no way I could keep that from my lifemate.

"Oh," he said quietly. "I see..." He wasn't afraid of other males. Valzar knew he was strong enough to defend himself against almost any attack. What really upset him, and he hastily hid this within the inner part of his mind, was the idea of Callista with another male. But why would that upset me?

Callista was lost in thought as she sunk down in the pool. She wrapped her legs around her, hugging herself. Valzar, I'm sorry. She didn't move, was afraid she'd scare him. She was sure he would be upset and confused.

Callista moved enough to put her head about the water. Isn't that what got us into this mess? She smiled faintly to herelf. Are you sure that you'd do it again?
