She recalled Celeborn saying something about candy being hard to get a hold of. Lin hadn't thought about it as much because to her, it was always easy to get a cold of candy and sugar in general really.
"Oh..... well that makes sense," Lin murmured, "I hadn't really thought about it that way. I always ask for peppermints from Yukito because he always seems to have sweets on him."

Ahren's eyes lit up mischievously.
"Can you bring candies here with you when you come?" he asked her eagerly. "That way we can all have some candies, too, and Mama doesn't have to worry about going to the trouble of getting them!"
He of course thought that it was a brilliant idea.

Lin hadn't thought of it that way, she could always bring candies here. She would need to find a way other than getting Yuki though. Perhaps help out somehow.

Ahren's eyes lit up with excitement, and he grinned widely.
"Really?" he asked, clapping his hands together happily. "That would be so neat! Thanks!"

Arthael sighed and held her head in her hands.
"Ahren," she murmured, her eye narrowing slightly once more, "you're being selfish again. You can't have something for nothing."

Was it? Lin had to think about it, perhaps it was a bit rude to ask for something. Like asking for presents or something like that, but it wasn't presents it was candy. Or was presents were like candy? She tilted her head a bit to think about it.
"No candy?"

Lin's comment echoed Ahren's thoughts exactly, and he stared at Arthael, stunned.
"No candy?" he repeated in complete and utter disbelief.

Arthael shook her head. "Not for nothing, not when you ask like that," she affirmed. "You'll never get something for nothing in your life, Ahren Aldrich, and it's best you learn that. If you want something, you give something in return. If you receive something and have nothing at the moment to give, then you owe. Such is life."
She grinned at the two children suddenly. "On the other hand, if there were some service you could offer to Lin," she added mischievously. "Something she wants to learn, perhaps ..."

It was as if a lightbulb went off in her head. Why had she not thought about it? After all technically with the time jump and everything Ahren was older than her. She guessed though it was always hard to tell. So he must know a lot of things right?
"Hmm... lessons... lessons...." Lin murmured her eyes nearly gazing over as she thought about her to-do list of things to learn.

Ahren was just as happy with Lin's reaction to Arthael's suggestion - it meant of course that there was still a chance that he could get some candy somehow!
"I can teach you anything I know!" he agreed eagerly. "Anything that I can! I can teach you about ... about ... about ... about tracking or hunting or shooting or riding or ... or ... or anything that Papa will let me teach you!"

"Oh yea..." Lin murmured.
Ahren's list had reminded her of something she had been remembering on and off for quite a long while now. Didn't she tell Celebor she was going to try on this term.
"I forgot I haven't asked about riding, when I first came here I was too small but Feng and Ryu got to learn. Though I did get a good view from Elros' shoulder when I was that little! Do you remember Arthael?"

Arthael smiled softly.
"To be fair, you would have an even better view from his shoulder now," she said quietly. "You have grown quite a bit since that time ... but he is very strong, and could still carry you if you asked him."
She paused.
"On the other hand, it would be far more comfortable for both of you if you were to learn to ride a horse," she admitted. "You would not be up as high, of course."

"I can teach you to ride!" Ahren said eagerly. "I can! I'll teach you everything I know, maybe even a trick or something! I'll be the best teacher ever!"
One almost had to wonder how badly he wanted those candies.

"Well, I did tell Celebor I would learn so I can see what it would be like," Lin giggled, "That's okay just learning how to ride. I don't need tricks, just to ride. Who knows, it might be useful to know someday."
There might come a day when she would have to ride instead of walk, she wanted to be ready.
