(DC: 8 completed. Next DC: 10)
Tao began in earnest once more. To be honest, he was struggling to think of more ways to turn a simple game of wits into something more epic. Something about staring into a multicolored plastic cube just sorta turned your brain to much after a while. Then again, that was probably part of its awful strategy as well.

Tao tentatively continued, now back up to a full 1/3 completion. He was starting to get the hang of it...or so he thought. After all, you just turned it. And turned it again. And kept turning. An somehow, some way, all of those colors would line up. That, or Tao would likely catch flame in some way or another.
But he was hardly ready to admit defeat.
((Just wait until a few levels down the line where Tao's INT mod will be well over 18...))

Tao cocked his head side to side, pausing for a few moments as he seemed to be about halfway there again. This was the dangerous point where just a few misteps could once again reduce all that progress down to shameful obscurity. With any luck, however, that wouldn't happen this time. And screw that, Tao didn't believe in luck. He'd succed. He was just that damn smart.

He wiped a bit of sweat from his brow. 2/3rds of the way complete. It was the farthest he'd gotten, or at least the farthest he'd gotten since that odd fluctuation in reality that had stalled his progress so pathetically last time. It was getting even more complex now, as if the cube was getting angry that Tao was even getting close. But close wouldn't cut it. Tao continued on.

((I'm gonna level up to ******** five or something by the time I'm done with this.
DC: back to 14))
Tao sighed, yet another misstep. He was back to only halfway complete. The next half of the almighty cube represented the watershed moment of his ninja career, up until this point.
He wondered for a few moments how to turn the rubix cube into some kind of weapon. Maybe a trap where the victim had to solve the cube or be beset by thousands of hungry snakes?
That might be too cruel...
((... should I be keeping track of my posts in the experience thread? And what counts as a line... i have a widescreen laptop so my lines are probably more words than some others ^^))

Tao's progress for the past several moments could be represented by a sinusoidal function, that fluxuated from a higher to lower value without actually making any real progress in either direction. Sort of a rubix limbo. But that was still preferable to having the puzzle fall apart again. Tao continued onward, his eyes getting a little crazy as he kept working on the toy.

And the sinusoidal function went back to the lower value. What exactly did you call this state? Puzzle-purgatory? Recursory Rubix? An infinite color loop? It was maddening.
That whole idea about peeling the stickers was looking more and more appealing with each passing moment. But Tao wasn't quite that desperate yet.

Well, it was progress. Sort of. Looping between progress and failure made those "progress" portions bittersweet, if that. Tao was still a little bit too young to understand the more risque definition of the word "tease", but had he been more world-wary, he'd certainly use that term to apply to this situation. He was just teetering on the verge of finishing this thing, but every time close he was kicked back a bit. Thankfully, that same lack of taboo knowledge also prevented the term "blueballs" from quite applying to this case, though his brain was suffering a similar effect.

((Alright, and in the interest of my personal beliefs... ******** YOU KARMA! I'M WINNING THIS RIGHT NOW ********: 16 complete, final DC: 18... and gig, does your last post apply to the full academy, or should I go through and catalog my individual academy events?))
Five-sixths of the way complete. Eighty three point three three three... lots of threes percent. The cube seemed to shake in Tao's hand, though that might also be because he was shaking as well. Truly, the almighty rubixmonster was about to be slain. The probability of success was... low. But dammit, this was fate. Or something very similar. Tao turned the cube and hoped for the best.

((Tao- you get no exp points in academy. You have to train outside to get points...even then the points don't affect you until you pass the exam. ))
Keiko continued frowning, "All I'm processing is how I'm going to take care of Maiyuri and a pet when you're gone...since you've gone on a training spree and aren't home." Keiko was totally skipping over the part when he was saying sorry, "Meh, prove to me...and maybe."

And with his hopes appropriately dashed, Tao let the cube (which had now returned to the modest 2/3rds completion) hit the ground, soon followed by his backside. He reached into his pack, and drank a beverage from his seemingly inexhaustible supply. He relaxed against the large burlap container, and stared at the cube. He poured a bit of the liquid on it. It was a sign of respect for a worthy opponent.
((I'm resting. Good luck, *))
