  I don't think it's vain to want friendships without complications.
Reading between the lines, I'd say you're sick of getting to know a guy well and then finding he makes an unwanted move on you.
And that's not vain.
I think he just meant the way you worded it; "friends that aren't attracted to me" might make someone think you assume every guy who speaks to you falls in love with you, when actually you were just stating your reason for such a question in the first place.
There. Misunderstanding resolved, people.
Personally, I can both relate to what you're saying and not. I have friends fool themselves into thinking they love me and then getting hurt when I have to tell them how much I love them as a friend; most recently, one of them decided to send me abusive and anonymous messages online and on my phone once he'd found out I had a boyfriend for the first time in a year, causing me to stop trusting anyone I knew. Some of the things that were said were truly awful and hurtful - and then he went back to being lovey-dovey when I left my boyfriend from the pressure a month later.
I still don't know who it was.
On the other hand, I fall in love myself very easily, and can never keep my mouth shut about anything; if I'm thinking it, it has to come out. However, I'd never approach guys that I only had an attraction to - which is what gets me into the above situation most often.
Ah, I don't know. I'm stressed out and feeling ill, you won't get much sense out of me.

Just a few, though.
Sometimes it's a 'phase', sometimes it's a choice.
More often than not, it is caused by a psychological issue.

That's not even the worst part of that video, it was an entire documentary on it. There was one girl who was in love with an amusement park ride and she would kiss it and rub the grease from the bearings onto her face....it was very awkward
