In the end, Byakuran wasn't someone who didn't stop to enjoy the small things in life...in fact, it may have been one of the reasons it had taken him so long to truly start his training in earnest. The smallest things could hold his attention, stir his sense of fascination. Learning of the littlest of things could bring him happiness and contentment in some small way, bringing cheer to what might have otherwise been a dreary day. He pondered the great mysteries alongside the small ones, assigning equal importance to both is some cases. His curiosity was, in a way, as dangerous a depth as it could take him, was his redeeming feature merely because it was his most prominent. Greed, selfish desire, and ego, all took a back seat to the young man's pure and earnest desire to know. In this case...it was to be able to know music, the thing which he held such esteem for. To know it enough that his very being could bring it forth...

The old man watched the boy play now with a strange sort've consideration. Not a word had been spoken between them, but there was a something in the young man's melody. Something in the echoing of his flute that spoke to him louder than words. The boy's soul felt...old. Older then it had the right to be. The boy had been through far too much for one of his age, and it seemed to have a powerful desire to become older yet. His music painted to mind images of vast ancient landscapes, untouched antiquities and truths forgotten since the beginning of the world itself. The boy's song was one of loss, yet not sorrow, ambition, but not greed, and deep, gaping emptiness...a hunger, for the world and it's wonders. It was a song the old man knew. It was the song of many a young men when they stand at the verge of their lives...so close to setting out into the wide world and all it had in store. This boy's soul may have seemed far more weathered then many his age... but at the same time he was just as filled with the dreams and hopes as other youths... it was a strange mixture of principles...a temperance of yin and yang... and the boy's music seemed, within it's shifting cords, to convey this on some level...a shadow of the truth...

The little wonders of the two's synchronized performance had begun to get a larger following as some people in the market place took notice, the two musicians seeming to pay them no notice. They faced one another, their preformances apparently working as one, yet at the same time against one another. It was all things two forces could be. It was a conflict, it was a dual, it was cooperation, it was a conjunction, and it was partnership. The two songs, seeming somewhere to meld into one, seemed to be battling, yet at the same time working together. Fighting, yet at peace. It was a strange sort of balance, a haunting sort of melody. Violin and flute singing together yet apart, in a strange sort of synergy that defied any single description.

The old man could hear it now, the slow unveiling of the boy's music. It was as though it was becoming more...real, as though the music from his flute was becoming more skillful, masterful, in mere moments what it took musicians years to achieve. Was the boy playing a game? Was he truly far more skillful then he had let on? Gradually introducing the true genius of his talents? He couldn't be sure. The boy's music seemed to grow in complexity and and nuance, it's message ever clearer, it's tone ever more involved as it continued this climb. The boy's intent closed eyed expression remaining completely impassive as they both played on... The old man was smiling now, however, no longer even trying to hide it. The people now observing the two play had begun to increase further in number, the strange apparently impromptu performance attracting notice...

Byakuran's ability with music had never been incredible for an otobe, his affinity for jutsu and the ways of the ninja had always been far more prominent, but there was always those memories of his childhood that made him, at the very back of his mind, wish that perhaps that wasn't so. This though, was his chance to combine the two, to make his talent for jutsu shine through and allow him to make the two one and the same. His ability to bring music to being, and his talent for chakra techniques, both could be put together and fused into a single skill. It would not be a matter of merely having to choose one or the other any longer...he would merely be able to focus on his goals after this, with no second thoughts to hold him back...

The old's story was not a complicated one. It was not one of sorrow or even mystery. He was merely a man, like so many others, who had lived his life through following his own path, seeking out the end to which it led him. Long ago he'd been the son of merchant, raised in the comfortable environment with little worries or troubles. Due to conflict, the old man had been forced leave this old life behind however, a refugee forced to make his bread and butter on the road..adapting the life of a traveling musician. He'd met up with a group of traveling gypsies, falling in love with one of their number and happily joining them. For many years he had traveled with his wife's band, the two of them having three children together, each now grown and off in the world. Their eldest son and his brother, had left home long ago, taking the family name with them... One had always been an ambitious man, long passed from circles where it was easy to know where he'd ended up...the other had settled down in a small village as a doctor...before a terrible accident... he'd had a wife and son, but the old man knew nothing of what had happened to them after his son's death, despite his efforts...

The old man's youngest had stayed with the band of gypsies for far longer then either of the sons, though in the end she too left in the same way as her brothers, following after the eldest's example and becoming a rogue agent of her own whims, what many would call a rogue ninja. He supposed it was the curse of his families long hidden blood...that they were predisposed to such things... but that his one son who'd not inherited the gift had met ill ends...perhaps it was a sign. A sign that the world was changing and that their families old ways had to return in order for them to prosper. Yet he, the old man, had been left behind by these times. The group his wife and he still wandered with had stopped in the nearby haven for their folk, the secret market that some called the "witch Market", but he had been struck by the notion to wander a bit, thinking of his past and all he would fix if he had the chance. It was at times like this when he tended to just start playing...
And it had been then the young man stumbled upon him.

The Old man continued to hear the boy's song rise in splendor, it's tune no longer a mere echo to his own, but an equal, both raising in harmony. He supposed, looking at the boy, that if his own grandson had lived to see today, he would be only a little older then this boy...perhaps two years of so. It was a strange thing to think of...what sort of person that the boy would be like. The Old man chuckled. Knowing his family, he'd be a rebellious child with a jaded view of the world and a strange tendency to see to the truth of things more then normal men. He would probably never remember a single dream he'd ever had, and have a strange tendency to contort himself while sleeping. He'd probably tend to talk with the express purpose of making others feel foolish and, if tradition held true, he'd probably end up a missing nin at some point, a refugee at the least. The Old man's eyes seemed faraway as he continued to play in concert with the strange dark haired young man, his smile even wider.

The old man and Byakuran continued to play, neither really aware of how very odd it was that the two of them should meet this day, playing together in harmony never knowing how very close they were connected. The Old man would perhaps never know that his grandson had survived to see that day after all, and was, in fact, friends with Byakuran's own brother, and rivals with his senpai Kyojin. Byakuran would not know that even now the grandson of the man before him even as they played was murdering his clansman and putting his all into preventing their invasion of Oto. Neither knew of these facts, these links, these strange little quirks in destiny, and they merely continued to play on... such facts might have never been revealed, but even if they were, this moment had occured. A moment of harmony between two who seemed strangely linked, both having reasons to be allies or enemies with the other...yet neither aware... Byakuran could feel it now...he was almost there, almost at the point where he would understand the truth of the process, be able to master the musical inclination jutsu. He just had to continue, just had to continue to allow the music to take hold of him. His chakra control and the methodical way he could manipulate the sound were at last getting a handle on the process, the particulars of it revealing themselves to him bit by bit as he continued to play, having lost track of time at this point, the people in the market place around the pair having taken cursory notice of their performance, coins still dropping at the old man's feet even if he paid them no mind. The song seemed to breath and change of it's own accord now, the piece having taken on a life all it's own as the two musicians continued without pause...

what was it about music that seemed to fascinate the soul? What was it about the emotion and power of the twisting and bombastic might of rhythm that moved the hearts and minds of humans? He supposed that was a question that even he couldn't begin to answer. Byakuran's mind came up with so many different reasons to the question that attempting to narrow it down was pointless. It was most likely because so many different reasons existed in the first place. Humans were each drawn to music for their own reasons...whatever those might have been. But for him? Personally? He was probably drawn to music in the same simple way he was drawn to watching the ocean. It spoke to something deep inside him, called out to it and prompted it to answer back.

Well this was the answer to that call, this was the voice it raised within him. as his flute seemed to be giving a faster and more masterful performance, the attention of the people around them seemed to be being drawn towards him more specifically, the flute's call echoing through the market as people perked their ears to listen, it's voice reaching up and intensifying in a strange haunting melody. Byakuran's expression was still composed, his performance undaunted by attention to anything besides the performance itself. To him the rest of the world seemed to have faded away, in a brief moment of clarity and wonder that brought him a sort've aimless joy that could not have been otherwise achieved. He was understanding now... he was finally in sight of the techniques success. He was finally able to grasp it's truth.

The Old man watched the boy play with a continued smile on his face, a strange amazement at how the boy's playing seemed to have...grown, over the course of the performance, as though something had changed with him. It was as though hearing a song from beyond a door, and then slowly having the door opened. The boy was truly a masterful artist, his skill with playing nothing short of amazing. The notes and sounds seemed to bed to his whim, as though the song was molded by his will itself. For one so young to have such talent... he supposed that was what was expected of Ninja these days. All his own children had been ninja at one point in their lives, his son who became a doctor learning the art minimally to pick up medical techniques, and all of them had been exceptional at something in their own way. It was becoming as such that ninja were becoming less and less things of mystery to him, as they were to most common folk, but rather things that merely symbolized the incredible potential that was within everyone...

Byakuran's flute seemed to come to new life as the song whirled with flare and finesse, the limits of his talent with the instrument no longer holding him back. Now the limits where those of his mind, his chakra, his ability to manipulate his soul itself. This was the song that he'd been envisioning, the one he'd been wanting to set free to the world around him, one of so very many within his twisting mind and heart. Now the jutsu made it possible, now the truth of the song was brought forth. For he had mastered the musical inclination, and he knew it. He needed to solid confirmation, no signal from an instructor or confirmation from a scroll. This was the technique, and his ability to give life to music was no longer restrained. As the song at last came to a slow end, the old man and he coming to final conclusion, Byakuran opened his eyes, giving a rather satisfied smile to himself, the old man lifting a brow at him with a curious wonder in his eye, admiration of the boy's talent not far behind.
"You're very good." the old man said, speaking for the first time.
Byakuran gave a slight nod of acknowledgement. "And you as well."
The old man laughed. "When you're as old as I am, young man, you don't have much excuse to be anything but skilled at what you do. Hm hm hm." he glanced down at his instrument. "Still...I don't really know if you're suited for the flute. Here, a trade, for a moment."
Byakuran looked slightly surprised, lifting his brows as he accepted the silver haired old man's offer, handing his own flute whilst accepting the old man's violin. "I..." Baykuran began, slightly unfooted by the move.
"Come now," the old man said wiping off the boy's flute with a clean cloth from a case beside him. "I can tell from your fingers you know how to play. Don't be shy."
Byakuran was a little impressed by the old man's observation, but at this prompting adapted the proper standing pose, resting the hilt of the violin under his chin...

Performance Check (Violin) Performance: 5+3(+22 Musical inclination) Roll: 4+30=34 >30 sad Outstanding performance, the audience worships your awesomeness.) -15 cp Song Byakuran's Kekke Genkai gave rise to the sound within the instrument as he began to play, his ability manipulating the sound emitted as he fell into a slow steady opening, the music...louder, then it should have normally been, echoing across the market place as suddenly eyes from all around began to turn away from what they'd been doing. The opening slow, melancholy... haunting. Byakuran pulled the violin bow slowly across the strings with an effortless grace, his eyes closed as his face fell impassive. The violin seemed to calling out, crying out in a beautiful chilling chorus, to the hearts of the audience, the rhythm leading slowly to a head...where... Byakuran gave a slight smile, and his hands seemed to dance across the instrument as the melody took off, this song suddenly filled with a life that filled the market with it's call, a small echo suddenly joining in as the old man offered a chorus with the flute, the song given true form and harmony as the two musicians played, the violin in Byakuran's hands seeming to rock the souls of those watching, the beat reaching into them as Byakuran's chakra continued to echo through his music. The song was of hope, it was of battle, it was of victory, and in the hands of this boy it seemed to reach all listening. The song played on for a time, the boy and the old man now the center of attention in the market, business having halted for a moment. Finally, with a last fading redoubt, the violin sank into silence, and, slowly but surely, applause filled the area. Byakuran seemed mildly content at something as, ignoring the coins tossed at the feet of the two, he reached out to offer the old man back his violin. "Thank you. It's a fine instrument." The old man laughed slightly, the cheers and awe of the surrounding people apparently lost between the two as he handed the boy back the flute. "Hn hn, though not worthy of such a performance I should think. That was...brilliantly done." Byakuran slipped his flute back with his pack, giving a grateful nod. "I thank you, again. You may not believe me, but that performance would not have possible without you." the old man raised a brow quizzically, the boy chuckling mysteriously. "Well, it was a pleasure playing with you." he turned and offered a wave of appreciation to the surrounding people."But I'm afraid I must be off." he closed one eye in a wink, before running up the wall the old man had been leaning on, bypassing the adoring crowd and moving up unto the rooftops, the enthusiasm of the people below still sounding until he was out of sight, before the place became alive with chatter, talk of the young ninja and his performance filling the market place for some while... The old man merely smiled as he stood, ignoring the coins that lay at his feet as he packed up the old violin, and headed off down the street. Byakuran seemed rather pleased with himself as he headed off back towards the grove, his mood definitely improved. It didn't occur to him that word of this might get out and lead further to the assumption that he was an Otobe if they didn't already suspect, but right now didn't really care about such things either. He'd enjoyed himself. ((Exit to Grove)) Name: Musical Inclination Description:The user creates an intricate display of vibrations to recreate musical melodies and the illusion of instruments.
