I have removed him from the program, and we are working at the board level at the moment. I am hoping things will go well if he is placed in an SLD (Self contained Learing Disabilities) calss... particularly if the teacher is female. (The stuff with his dad has left him untrusting of most men) He has done well with male teacher in the past, but they need to recognise that he will test them to earn his trust. This latest teacher failed miserably. I have had a number of meeting with the principal and he backs his teacher, I understand. The program he was in is super for behavioral challanged children, but not as suited to a child with anxiety and learning disabilities. It is just a not a fit thing, I like the man personally and I know he really cares about my son. Unfortunatly he twists reports to make my son sound like more of a dicipline problem than he is. I am very strict with my kids, but try to be fair too. I temper everything with lots of love and compassion. I am constantly recieving compliments on how well mannered, articulate and good my kids are.

The thing is when he gets upset he is instantly in a fight or flight response. He has tried to walk away from schools but blows it out of proportion so he will try and walk to another city (either home or to Grandmother's house) between 7 to 10 miles away, on foot! Nope it makes no sense, but when he is upset he is not thinking clearly he just wants to get away and not get angery. I is always headed to a place he feels safe, home or with his grandma. When he filps the other way is get really scary, but that only happens with peaople he really trusts (that would be ummm ME) He let himsef get mad ONCE and went to fight instead of flight... he unleashed a heap of pent up frustration frear and other things on me... I looked pretty bad when he was done... two black eyes, two split lips, blood everywhere. He was horrified, he got sick to his stomach, he was shaking like a leaf in a gale and wanted nothing more than to make it not have happened. part of it was my falut too as I cornered him when he tried to run (he was not being safe and I did not know what to do).

Yes he is in counceling, and has a psych. I love him so much and we have been getting him help for years... but that one incident and now everyone is worry he might hurt another kid. He only let loose on me because he trusts me with his feelings!

Hi, I'm from a small town in Montana.
Just looking to find parents of hard of hearing children?
My son is 7 now and wears 2 hearing aids. He's 85 % deaf.
He does okay in our school system, just doesn't understand why he is different from the other kids. He"s the only hearing impaired child in our school system. He's been fighting at school lately, principle feels he's too agressive! I feel that he is being tease and can't stand it so fighting back! One example: At recess, one little boy walked by Nickolas,(my son) and took his hearing aids, than ran off with them! Nickolas, ran him down, punched him in the nose, and got his hearing aids back! Of course the teachers didn't see the whole thing only this other kid with a bloody nose and nick there! We found out the rest of the story later. I am all for nick standing up for himself just how to teach him that sometimes his aggression is too much? Just looking for advice?
Thanks! Please feel free to pm me!

I'm 16, going deaf and I have tenitis (sp), my ears are always ringing. Makes it very hard to hear. Dunno if that counts as hearing problems, though.

If you can stand it, they sell white noise CD's that block out the ringing. It does drive me crazy, it's a particularly high-pitched tone. Every minute of every day, "Duuuuuuuuuuuu" Very bothersome.

How can you possibly study for school or anything for that matter! I don't know if Nick has ringing in his ears or not. He never has said anything about it but maybe if your born with it, it is something that you get use too? Hope that someday, you can find something out there that can help with this! Is it worse on some days than others? Or is it always the same?

It does get hard to study, good thing I don't, then! You can get used to it. I did for years, thinking everybody had the same thing. A conversation with my brother made me realise otherwise. It's worse if I can't take my mind off of it, or If I am in a quiet room. I have been assured that it's not genetic, so that made me happy. I don't want to pass this on someday.

Welcome to the guild. I'm sorry that your son is dealing with bullies. I applaud him for standing up for himself, but I am not exactly sure punching another kid is the awnser. That's a tough issue. redface It's sad that the principal feels that he's too agressive, and doesn't seem to understand the reason behind the agression. Hearing aides are expensive, and not something to be played with. Have you talked to the parents of the bullies at school? the bullies teachers? Maybe talk to your son if it happens agian, what sort of action he can take besides punching another kid. Maybe he could go get help from a teacher right away that's on duty for recess. Maybe the teachers should be more aware of your son and keep a closer eye on him during recess for something like that to happen. Or maybe the teachers or principal should seek some sort of discipline for the bullies because of what happened. I'm not exactly sure if this is helpful to your or not. I've never been in this sort of a situation before. I hope it all works out. That is something i worry about when my son gets old enough to go to school. I worry about that so much....and I honestly have no idea how I would handle it. redface Also, where are you from in Montana? I'm currently in Billings. eek
