I definately think it was Aeris. It seemed like Tifa had a thing for Cloud, but yeah Cloud was hooked on Aeris.
I would have liked it that way. ^^

Honestly, I don't think Cloud really liked Aerith. With Tifa, you say they say each other as a brother/sister sort of situation, but those tend to turn into romantic relationships eventually, it's inevitable. And remember how she talked to him in AC? "But that only works for real families, huh?" There was obviously something between them, but Cloud was too focused on how he failed to save Aerith to get into that. Then there was that look she gave him at the end, in the church. Makes you wonder what was in store for Cloud later. wink Aerith and Cloud...I think that was more of a flirt than anything else, because she's obviously cute as well as attractive. Admit it, guys, every now and then you flirt with some attractive girl in your classes, without really intending to take it beyond there. She may have been interested in him, though, and that didn't help much, since that means she was trying to win him over. A difficult task, since Cloud already has so much history with Tifa. In the end, I think Cloud wished he could have saved Aerith because he felt obligated, even responsible, for not being able to get there in time, considering the relation he has to Sephiroth. Yuffie, there was no connection. They were in the same party, fought for the same ideals. They were definitely not more than friends, if that, and if they were, it's only because of the many trials the party went through, sticking together (mostly) through the whole thing.
And it seems to me most people want to say Aerith, because that would be the most romantic one. Or because she was more of "The Girl Next Door" type than Tifa is, which is everybody's favorite type of girl for the hero to win over. I personally think Cloud and Tifa would be more romantic, since they were childhood friends.

I think he started out in love with Tifa but I think that later he fell for Aeris. I don't think he was ever in love with Yuffie. I always pictured their relationship as Yuffie being like an irritating little sister who steals stuff from him and his friends. I did picture him going back with Tifa after the game ends.

Ok.. i'm only on page 15.. and i'm reading through this thread. However, I keep noticing how people say that well.. aeris died. Which makes me think that people really missed half hte context of this game.. if you pay attention to the lessons in cosmo canyon and what they were learning about the ancients and the planet... when someone dies.. it's not like.. that's it..they are gone. I mean... Aeris when alive would hear from people after their spirits left their bodies. When people left their bodies, they joined the lifestream.. so, even though her body was dead; her spirit was well alive and always with them. And.. for those of you who have seen AC... then you should know from the several instances when he was with her... that she wasn't gone. And, he was comforted after realizing that she wasn't just completely gone.. she was with him... and loved him adn forgave him.

DrakeWurrum And it seems to me most people want to say Aerith, because that would be the most romantic one. I personally think Cloud and Tifa would be more romantic, since they were childhood friends. Except for the fact that they weren't really friends at all.. they were hardly acquaintences... and, they even talk about it in their trip in the lifestream. he watched her from afar.. but she hardly talked to him. Their entire interaction was him writing her a letter.. and her having one night talking to him. if that's your definition of childhood friend sweethearts... then i must have had a million of them.. but to me.. none of that kind of thing meant anything. and i'd like to mention that... when it come to relationships and the like.. there is liking.. there is loving.. there is being in love.. and it is entirely possible to care deeply for someone who you previously did care for.. who you will always care for as they were your first love.. however.... you go on to be in love with someone else with no intentions to ever revisit that first love.... and that is what was happening with Tifa.. and from her perspective.. she probably thought after he left what a good catch she lost.. right under her nose. She probably went to midgar to find him.. hoping they'd hook up.. but.. as things happen so in real life... he got over those feelings... and so his ship sailed without her..
