"Every race has advantages and disadvantages," Lael says. "Compared to elves and angels humans lives are quite short, but because of that our race as a whole adapts and changes quickly, from one generation to the next." She shrugs. "So in a way, for the species as a whole, it's a blessing."

The angel nods as she professes, "Yes, that is an advantage over the angels and demons, for sure, but still it could be taken as a weakness."

"Yeah, nerves are a bugger like that," Darian laughed. "Never had frozen wings, or frozen anything, but I imagine it's not much more pleasant than any of the various assortment of sword wounds of gotten. Long life has it's disadvantages. The lesser adaptability Lael mentioned, as well as a lot more opportunities to get ourselves stuck on the end of something pointy." The elf laughed again, thinking back to the number of times he had barely avoided getting himself 'stuck on the end of something pointy'.

Lael laughs. "Well, yes. Getting yourself 'stuck on the end of something pointy' is a problem, isn't it? You'd be surprised at how adept humans are at it though. Probably because we have a bad habit of pissing off every other race we share the planet with." She rolls her eyes.

Nathan noticed that no one who had left the room had returned. He glanced at Lily. "Well, my dear, shall we go see what it is that detains our associates?"

Lily laughed at Nathan's attempt at ornamental speech. "If you promise to speak normally, gladly." Despite the sharpness of her words, her eyes smiled.

"Can do," Nathan said with a grin. Holding her hand, Nathan lead Lily toward the other people. He saw white-feathered wings out of the corner of his eye. He looked, and saw what he'd hoped never again. An angel. The half-demon snarled.

"Eli, this is Nathan and Lily," Lael says when the two come into the room. "Nathan, Lily, we have a new guest. This is Eli."

"And he's an angel. Isn't that just ******** fantastic?" Nathan sneered. "Although, I guess they can't all be psychotic, manipulative assholes."

"Bad experience?" Lily asked, looking concerned.

"Oh yeah, You know that brand on my shoulder blade? The one that looks like a pentagram? Did I ever tell you the story of how I got that?"

"No. What happened?"

"I was in a small town down in the south, don't remember the name of it, and don't particularly want to. There was an angel there, stuck up b*****d named Jonah. I got on his bad side and he convinced the townspeople I was a demon, bit of an ironic coincidence there. Well, long story short, they beat me half to death and branded me. Understandably I've been a little wary of human bodies and feathery wings ever since."

"He?" she asks after Nathan says 'and he's an angel', standing up and turning around to see the demon (careful not to hit her wings on anyone or anything as she does so).

She had felt chills down her spine - something only a demon's presence could cause because of their hate towards angels. It was none of her fault for the species' hatred towards her species but it would almost always cause the same reaction.

She waits until his little explanation ends and then asks, "Jonah Myrr? In the region of Austin? If it's who I think it is, he did do that a lot, even to those who were not demons."

The being sighs, "He is one of the angels that makes all of us look like, as many say, as*es. However," she nods in Nathan's direction, "one bad apple doesn't necessarily spoil the whole batch."

"Yeah, that's the ******** name," Nathan said, "And I really should've learned the whole one bad apple not spoiling the whole batch thing after I found out that all humans aren't total ********. Especially since the one bad apple in the humans' case was a big one."

Lily rolled her eyes at Nathan's attempt at subtlety. "Well, now that you two aren't going to tear each other's throats out, maybe we can get to know each other through a little civil conversation."

Lael warily looks from Eli to Nathan. "Civil conversation sounds good to me," she says.

Eli nods and sits back down, a pained (in the distance) look in her eyes. Something has obviously changed her countenance because most angels would not even show their pain, especially in the presence of non-angel species. She rubs her left shoulder, unable to move her right arm further to rub her wing.

"I'm all for civil conversation," she says, attempting to keep the pain (from her wings being frozen) from entering the conversation or into her tone of voice.

Lily sensed that the angel's wings were frozen, or rather, sensed that the water in the tissues of the wings was frozen, and cursed herself for not paying attention. I swear there are times someone could be dying of dehydration and I wouldn't notice the low water volume in their blood. I need to remember to pay attention to these things. Walking over to Eli, she held up a hand. "Hold on a second. I don't think you should do anything before we get those wings of yours thawed out."

The angel pauses, trying to figure out what the female is up to. She begins to ask but then her eyes close. The tension in her wings starts to loosen as Lily works on thawing her wings of the ice.

"Lily, you're a genius," Lael says. "It's a good thing you were with us. There's nothing I could have done for her wings, particularly since I don't have much knowledge as to how angels react to medicines compared to humans."

"That and medicine does crap all when things are frozen," Lily said flatly, letting her hand fall, Eli's wings thawed, for the most part. "There," she sighed. "I did what I could. I really wish I was better with water." The effort of thawing the angel's wings had visibly exhausted her.

Nathan placed a supporting arm around Lily, letting her lean on him. "You did your best, and it's better than any of us could've done. Sit down, rest, you've earned it" He kissed her softly on the top of her head and eased her onto the floor
