"Nor would I have made it out alive." Emma added softly, smiling as relations went well. Awkward, perhaps, but she sensed no ill will.

Frida blushed, but accepted what Remus and Emma had said. As she looked intensely uncomfortable, Eli diverted the attention directed at her.
"Remus," he said, "I need someone to spar with. I'm out of practice, after so long -"
"A year and a half."
"- a year and a half in bed. I used to be pretty good, though. Would you mind?"

"No, that sounds great, Eli. That is if you don't think I'm cheating because my body is naturally synthetic." He put emphasis on 'synthetic' and shot a sarcastic, but not unfriendly glare at Kaok.

[ ... If Kaok's out for a week, turn-taking can go to hell. ]

"Not at all," Eli said, his face twisted in a friendly - but clearly competitive - grin. His scars attested to the fact that he'd faced opponents just as powerful as the man before him - and opponents who were not likely to have been as friendly.

((Skip me. The nobles have nothing to say at this junction.))

[ Gonna move along as best I can without Kaok! No big, arc-starting event here, Copper. Move along.
I'm not expecting any replies to this, just waiting... uh... for some reason. >>; ]

A small cat padded along, her steps as light as air. Her coat was different, she very much looked like a different cat - but it was the same keen, sentient intellect behind her eyes that looked up on the group outside of Emma's home. She checked herself - she was ready - and began to walk towards her targets, unnoticeable in the forest's foliage.

Something registered on the sorcerer's magical radar, but he dismissed it as a random fluctuation of energy around Emma. Their frequency had been increasing as her powers grew with her pregnancy, becoming more and more chaotic as the months went by. However...this one felt different. Perhaps it was the child's energy, he mused. No matter.

Remus' scanners picked up something as well. However, being that it was only a cat, the Imperator thought nothing of it. Cats were common. There were several strays the crept around his beachfront home on Mimir.

Elsewhere, surrounding the group, were much more stealthy counterparts to the cat. Most took the forms of people, if you were to manage to stumble upon them. They were busy forming a spell - one that needed for the cat to only act as a catalyst.

She, for her part, had crept close enough that she could be seen - closer than any stray would dare. She walked right into the middle of the group of six, cocky as anything ever was. She looked right at Emma, and then Hrothbert, and dared them to do something about it.

There it was again. A magic he had felt bef-no. Oh no, no, no.

Emma felt the alarm from her link and stiffened in shock. "What-"

"We have to run."

"Why would we run? It's just a cat," Frida said, somewhat disbelievingly. She bent down to pet the offending feline, and was rewarded with an arched back, a purr, and a pair of white paws kneading at the ground.

"No." Emma said quietly, hands automatically curling around her abdomen, trying to shield the child. "That's what I thought, too."

"Why, what -" Frida was cut off. The cat whose ears she had been scratching was changing, steadily, into a complete - but completely bare - Hrothbert, in all his glory. She jerked her hand away, her eye wide with shock.
He - or was it still she? - looked at Emma, smiling just the way Hrothbert would.
"You can't get away from me."

The sorcerer beside Emma blanched, but the enchantress herself glared daggers.

"It appears I cannot."

Her hands had curled into fists at her sides, her nails cutting into the flesh of her palm.

The false version of her husband was lacking his scars. It made it easier on Emma.

"So, Emma, what are you going to do? Smack me?" The False Hrothbert grinned a wide Cheshire smile, positively jeering at Emma. He ignored everyone but the nobles - and for their part, Eli and Frida were too stunned to do a thing.
