Emma's expression turned grave. "Yes, I saw a bit of that..."
Which reminded her of something.
"I trust you will keep anything you saw confidential."

"I won't tell a soul." He promised solemnly. I've reserved not to even think about it if I can help it.
"I'll have to be off then, Chris and the dropship are waiting and I have a Faun to harass. You know."

"But of course. Send my regards." she replied as she saw her fellow elf back to his ship.
By the time Emma made it back inside, her eyelids were already sliding to half-mast. She took it slowly up to her bedroom, observing that the sun was just kissing the horizon, turning the sky all the blazing hues of flame.
Hrothbert found her an hour later fully clothed atop the sheets, fast asleep with a pillow in her arms.
Ten minutes after that, the position of pillow was taken up by him.

A little worm of thought squirmed in Emma's memories, reawakened and with new purpose. It worked, and struggled, and embedded itself in Emma's mind; it dissipated, one with her now, planting the seed of an idea in her mind.
Much, much further away, the young shapeshifter let out a deep breath. The thought had been activated at long last, and now she would finally get her due.

Nyrk opened the door to Emma's library, getting inside quick and closing the door to escape the rain. The rain beat quietly against the walls of the library, causing a few of the magically lit torches to waver, but not go out.
"...Emma? Are you in here?" He exorcist called out, a sense of urgency in his voice.

At the click of the door shutting, the Lord of Bainbridge raised his eyes from the grimoire he was examining, storing his reading glasses in a jacket pocket. "She's indisposed at the moment. Perhaps I could be of assistance?"
The urgency was duly noted, as was the fact that he knew the Exorcist did not trust him.

Nyrk was in no mood to make subtle hints at his mild distrust of Lord Bainbridge. Casting his suspicions aside, he asked, "Have you heard tell of Saint Nechfluit? A cleric and alchemist, the latter of which perhaps you may know him for."

"Our paths have crossed over the years." he replied mildly, closing the book on the table. "I may have some of his writings here, if that is what you seek."

"Yessir, if you would not mind parting with them for a moment," he responded, keeping his composure despite how eager he was. "I'll not bend the spine, fold the pages, or anything of the sort."

"Thank you for the reassurance." Vanishing amongst the shelves for a few minutes, the sorcerer returned with three worn manuscripts, spells for preservation woven into their bindings and lining the covers. "The spells should prevent most damage, but your caution is appreciated in any case."

The exorcist gingerly accepted the documents, setting them on a table and taking out a notepad to jot diagrams and notations as he began to pore over the manuscripts.

Silence stretched out as the sorcerer returned to his desk, skimming the grimoire while keeping part of his attention fixed on the exorcist. The only sounds were Nyrk's notations, and the scratching of the noble's quill on parchment.
Thunder rolled outside and the rain seemed to increase in intensity.

The sound of closing tomes and rustling papers echoed through the halls as the exorcist, at last, began packing his belongings together. He set the manuscripts on a desk before Hrothbert. "Thank you kindly, sir. I'll need to be on my way, though." Nyrk adjusted his hood as he opened the door. He sighed. "Of all the days in summer, today is the storm."

"Emma never has been good at picking times for her hormonal rages." he commented idly, peering at Nyrk over his glasses and revealing the reason for the storm.
"I hope you found what you were looking for."

"I did, sir, thank you. Now I just need to find a way out to sea. ...I also don't seem to be the only one looking. I'll probably not want to make it known I am, too." Nyrk stepped outside, the rain already soaking his hat and cloak.
"Thank you again, Hrothbert. That was just the information I needed." With that, the exorcist closed the door and began his journey, leaving the rain to knock incessantly at the door.
