"Yeah, don't mention it." He said quietly as she squeezed his hand and walked off to challenge the gym, his hand following hers after she let go for a bit. Damn. Crenu calmed himself down a bit and regained his stoic demeanor, or close to it anyway. There was a tiny smile in the corner of his mouth. He sighed a bit, that was one way to challenge a gym. No way could the leader not respond to that, assuming he was even there. The gym seemed unusually empty, maybe he was in the process of reorganizing things. But his blood suddenly ran cold when he heard a voice from behind him, it couldn't be. Not now of all times. He was afraid to look, maybe he was mistaken. Ken just stood there, staring with a big grin and watching the last thing he thought he'd ever see. "No way, you sure called that one right Jaeshan. Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh! Shiro!" Ken ran up to Crenu and wrapped his arms aroudn him for a big hug. "Tell me I didn't just see that, wow. I guess you aren't as stubborn and clueless as I thought you were. But really, sneaking off together so you can lay some sugar on her, so naughty!" He said laughing as he let go of the blond. He knew that there was something there, even if it was just a friendship, but no it was more than that. Kenneth never expected Crenu to just come out and do something like that, it just wasn't in his character! Oh but this was big news! Needless to say Crenu was more angry than anything, punching Kenneth's arm hard, hoping that it would make him forget what he just saw. Damn it, now? He couldn't come to the gym a few minuets later? A few seconds later? Hell, not at all? No, he had to come in now, and witness him at a moment of weakness. No doubt Ken had the wrong idea. "You're annoying as hell you know that? It's not like that. She was just nervous so you know, I...kissed her. And it worked. See, she's fine now. Just needed a, um, a shock." Yeah, right. Even he didn't believe that. But Ken might....no. Ken wouldn't. Ken was to joyous or whatever to not see stuff like that. "Oh is that all. That's why you didn't want to let go of her hand right? I saw that, your hand followed hers a little after she let go. What, was that for nerves too? I'm not buyin it. How about you Jaeshan?" Ken said with a smirk as he looked back at his other blond friend. Oh Crenu was gonna feel this one for along time. "Don't be so ashamed Shiro, it's normal you know. I'd be more worried if you didn't like her. But seriously, all alone in an empty gym. God I wonder what you'd have done if Surge wasn't here." He said with a devious grin as he nudged Crenu with his shoulder. "What? Just shut up already, you came to watch the match right? So watch it. No need for talking." he said flatly as he crossed his arms. He was gonna hit Ken again, but he knew it was pointless. Nothing worked on this guy. He had an annoyed look on his face as he looked out waiting for Surge to show himself, but it soon faded as he turned back to Ken. "It's nothing serious. Temporary infatuation or something like that. I don't know. It'll wear off eventually I'm sure." He looked back away from Ken, and ken just rolled his eyes and nodded. Froslass, who had been very quiet this whole time, was getting use to her new ghostlyness and was having fun going through the walls of the gym. She watched the exchange between Crenu and Riza and felt a little embarrassed herself. She didn't really understand it much, her being rather young, but she could feel her trainer's emotions and got a little embarrassed herself from watching it. The nice shiny Ken guy was sure giving him a hard time though, and she didn't like that. Froslass sank into the floor and came up right behind Ken, breathing on him with her icy breath and causing him to start to shiver and jump up for a moment. Crenu caught this out of the corner of his eye and smirked. "Good girl."

Kasiya watched with a slightly bemused expression as Dante and Keegan both headed out of the Pokemon Center, leaving her there with the now-awake Jason, his Magnemite, Turn A and Levi. Leviathan was now looking towards the Porygon2 with interest. She'd never seen such a Pokemon before, and the way he was just sitting still like that amazed her. Normally Levi was quite quiet and patient herself, but even she couldn't sit that still. Kasiya giggled to herself as Jason started to poke Turn A to try to get him to move, though when the Magnemite loosed a jolt of electricity at Jason, she jumped back in surprise. "Uh, are you okay?" she asked, holding out her hand to help Jason up, but he'd already sprang back up to his feet. "Um, ah, your hair is up," she said, pointing out a stray lock of hair that was still standing on end, emitting slight static. "Does your Magnemite always go around shocking you like that?" she asked, more curious than anything else as she looked up at the floating Magnet Pokemon, unable to keep the broad smile from stretching across her face. "You know what? You remind me of Proton," she said, looking up at the Magnemite admirably. "Does he have a name?"
=-=-=-=-= Jaeshan just kept to himself and hung back near the door, though he couldn't help but snicker as Ken quickly made a spectacle of Crenu and his embarrassment, though the comment about them being alone in an empty gym together made even him blush a little. Perhaps Ken was overdoing it just a teeny bit. "I'm not buying it either," he answered honestly, stepping forward, "but you might want to leave him alone now. It looks like he's gonna knock your head off if you don't stop." He looked around the gym now as well, surprised to see the complete lack of trashcans that usually lined the gym. "That's odd," he said as he found his way over to a row of bleachers against the wall to sit down. "There's normally two electrical barriers blocking this part of the gym from the leader's quarters up ahead, and down here there's supposed to be dozens of trashcans, two of which are hiding the switches that shut off the electricity. I wonder why there's no puzzle today?" The statement was more to himself than anyone else, though he silently wondered if he'd be less intimidated by Lt Surge's mighty presence now that he was only in attendance of a gym match, not actually the active participant.
=-=-=-=-= "The gym's puzzle has been put away due to mechanical problems," came a voice from behind them. An older man, wearing a panama hat and a tweed suit had entered the gym behind Jaeshan and Ken, and he smiled brightly at the group of young people. "The Lieutenant is working on having it reworked in between challengers." He removed his hat and gave a polite bow, as did the Pikachu that rode on his shoulder. "Please excuse me, I shall inform the Lieutenant that he has a challenger." The elderly gentleman made his way across the gym, quicker than one would expect from a man of his age. He then disappeared into a well-disguised door on the sidelines, leaving only silence in his wake.
A moment or so later the overhead lights flickered on, and thundering footsteps echoed throughout the gym as the massive figure that was Lieutenant Surge appeared before them. "I see we have another victim for Joy over at the ER," he laughed, crossing his tree trunk-sized arms over his burly chest. He wore a simple, dark green undershirt, a thick leather belt and grey camouflage cargo pants as well as heavy-duty black military boots. Around his neck was a thick steel chain from which dangled several beat-up dog tags, and his bleach-blonde hair was gelled back into spikes. He looked down at the girl standing before him, and smirked. "Challenge accepted, Missy, but don't go thinkin' dat I'm gonna go easy on ya just because you's a cute little girl!" His thunderous laughter reverberated from the brass-finished walls and ceiling, and he looked over to the sidelines where the elderly gentleman from before was now standing, and nodded.
The gentleman removed his tweed jacket and threw it over the railing of the referee box, and picked up a green flag in one hand. His Pikachu picked up the red one, still perched atop his trainer's shoulder. He cleared his throat and held up his flag, his Pikachu mimicking his trainer's every action. "The official gym match between the challenger, Miss Riza Harding of Blackthorne City, and Vermilion Gym's very own Lieutenant Surge, will now begin! The prize at stake is this, the highly coveted Thunder Badge!" He held up a gleaming golden, sun-shaped object for all to see, a larger image of which was projected upon the wall behind him. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon each, and only the challenger will be allowed to make substitutions. When all three of one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle, the match will end. Begin!"
"Alright, Baby! I hope yer ready for this!" Surge shouted as he practically ripped a Pokeball from his belt and let it fly. "Let's make some noise, Electrike!" A smallish, green and yellow Pokemon emerged from the sphere before it rebounded back to Surge's dinner plate-sized palm. It had an elongated head and a short, spiky tail, and he bared his fangs at Riza, daring her to send out her first Pokemon.

"Hmm? Oh, yeah, of course," Keegan nodded, handing the silver object over to Dante. He could understand his friend's plight, as he'd grown quite attached to the one he'd picked up the other night and he was glad he'd picked up a refillable one as well. He took a long drag and closed his eyes. "I dunno," he shrugged, blindly tapping a bit of ash to the ground. "What's the last badge you remember me winning? The Mauville one?" He opened his eyes, watching the few people entering and leaving the Pokemon Center. "Since then, I've got myself the Heat Badge from Lavaridge, and a bit before that I got a Thunder Badge from Kassie's dad in Vermilion. That's a fight I'll never forget," he added, shuddering a little at the memory of the mammoth of a man. His brain still refused to make the connections of how the two were related. While Kasiya wasn't a tiny girl, she was far from being anywhere near her father's size, and again he thanked some invisible force for the girl having taken after her mother and not her behemoth father. But then again, she did take after her sister in several aspects too...
"What about you?" he asked suddenly, eager to change the subject before his mind imploded in on itself. "What have you been up to recently? I thought the great 'Powers that Be' forbade you from continuing your exploits as a Pokemon Trainer." There, that was as good a lead in as any. He continued to puff away at his cigarette, hoping that his face had managed to remain a normal shade despite the thoughts going through his head.

"Thanks." Dante muttered taking the lighter and quickly lighting up. Handing it back to Keegan he took a few drags from the cigarette in his mouth before he decided to answer Keegan. "Oh you know my luck. A few days after I get settled into the job the great 'powers that be' decide that it would be a good idea for me to be a trainer. Of course by then I have sent out all of my pokemon so its start up new for me. Though Mitsu did give Apollo back." He paused for a moment before he sighed and glanced up into the bright sky. "Honestly they can't make up their mind for two seconds. I feel more like a baby sitter then anything else." He muttered that last part a bit quietly. He was used to his bad luck but he had hoped that his bad luck wouldn't extend into his new job. "Personaly I think they got lazy and a little sick of me getting sick after they teliported me around. Just remembering those first few hectic days was enough to upset his stomach a bit.
Not wanting to talk about his job anymore he stayed quiet for a bit just enjoying the fresh air he and Keegan were busy polluting. "You beat Surge huh? That was a tough battle." He said thinking back to his own battle with the large man.
Inside Turn A was just finishing up his processing and 'blinking' a few times he looked around the pokemon center. There was the strange kid who was drawing him, only now his hair was sticking up all funny. There was also a strange blue and orange pokemon staring at him as well. A quick check up on the internet informed him that it was called a Marshtomp. Another quick check to the pokemon trainer database informed him of the trainers names, what other pokemon they had and how many gym badges they had.

Luckily for Riza she was so focused on waiting for the gym leader to appear that she missed the conversation going on behind her between Crenu, Ken and Jae, otherwise she might have lost her concentration. When she heard the new voice behind her, though, she turned to look at the old man and his Pikachu, and she tilted her head a little. Was this guy the gym leader? He soon told them that he wasn't, and Riza tensed up. 'What's keeping him?' she thought, taking Eris' poke ball from her belt. She released the little Cyndaquil. "I want you to go sit with Jae and Crenu and Ken," she told her. "I think watching this match could be a good experience for you." Eris nodded, though she didn't quite understand what Riza meant other than 'go over there'. She did as she was told and went quickly over to where she was supposed to and hopped up onto a seat next to Jaeshan.
When the lights flickered on, Riza's eyes went wide, and she took a slight step back. At first there was only a vague outline but very soon he came into full sight, and Riza couldn't believe that she was looking at a human. "He's huge!" she whispered to herself, and though she was a little intimidated by his presence, his words and the sight of the Thunder badge she could win were enough to light a fire in her. She narrowed her eyes at him and grit her teeth. How dare he talk to her like that! 'I'll show him that I'm not a baby,' she thought angrily as Surge released his first Pokemon. Riza could only stare at it in awe, as it was none of the Pokemon Crenu had suggested earlier. "Electrike, right. At least I know it's an electric-type," she muttered to herself as she selected her first poke ball. Crenu's words were still fresh in her mind as she threw it. "Let's show him that we're no pushovers, Diemia!" she called as her sassy Corphish appeared on the battlefield. The referee had said begin, and Surge hadn't attacked yet, so she decided to make the first move. "Diemia! Blast them away with your bubblebeam!"
The Corphish narrowed her eyes and clacked her claws a few times before she brought a claw forward and opened it, sending a fierce stream of bubbles flying towards the strange green Electrike. * * * * * "Oh yeah, we are so ready for this gym," Katie smiled as she watched the geodude try to get himself unstuck itself from the ground. "Seraphim, use absorb," she said. "Take him out quickly!"
The thorn Pokemon nodded and she extended her right arm. The thorns concealed within the beautiful pink rose petals extended and entwined themselves around the Geodude's arm, and with a growl the Roselia began to sap away the rock Pokemon's health. The Geodude wasn't about to give up that easily and he pulled back, breaking free of Seraphim's hold on him. He quickly grabbed a rock from nearby and hurled it at her, though the paralysis still clung to him and it made him miss by a good foot or so. "Absorb again!" Katie called.
Seraphim didn't like the idea of rocks being chucked at her head and she reared back, her whole body glowing a slight green before she released a long, single vine that ensnared the Geodude and held him tight. She initiated her attack and she began to drain the rock Pokemon's health once more, though this time the attack was a lot stronger. "That's not absorb," Katie said, grinning. "That's mega drain! Oh wow, that's really gonna help us out," she said, watching as the Geodude became limp in Seraphim's hold. "Okay, let him go, Seraph. That's enough." The Roselia nodded and did just that, and Katie enlisted Genki's help to help put the Geodude in a safe place so that he could recover from the battle.
Kord, meanwhile, hadn't noticed that his teammate had started a fight with a Geodude as he'd continued attacking that same rock until it was scattered about in teeny tiny pieces by his feet. He strolled up to Katie, grinning triumphantly. Maybe now he could help with the gym battle!
"Okay everyone, I think we're set. Let's go get you guys healed up at the pokecenter, and then we're off to the gym!"

As soon as he saw Riza's first Pokemon, Surge let out a bellowing laugh that seemed to echo all throughout the gym. "Ain't that cutesy! Baby girl sends out a baby Water-type! Don't you know nuthin', girly?" he called out, pointing to a large sign tacked up to one of the walls. It had a picture of a Goldeen as well as a picture of a Pidgeotto, and both images had a big red 'X' through them. "Your little crab's in for the shock of its life! Electrike, run right through that wimpy Bubblebeam and give 'em a Spark attack!"
The Lightning Pokemon growled sharply and dashed forward, electricity sparking all over his body as he picked up momentum. He met the Bubblebeam head on, and though he didn't let it show, the bubbles bursting against his skin stung painfully. Ignoring the stinging sensations he felt all over, he charged through the watery attack, his body becoming sheathed in electrical energy as he prepared to slam into the Corphish.
=-=-=-=-= Jaeshan was a little surprised to see the Cyndaquil released from her Pokeball and sent over to where he and the others sat, though he could understand Riza's reasoning for wanting Eris to watch. "Be sure to cheer for your teammates," he said, smiling down at the Fire Mouse Pokemon. He hoped she wasn't mad at him for the battle with Squirtle earlier. "I bet it won't be long before you're helping Riza out in big matches like this."
This time, Jaeshan wasn't nearly as shaken up by Surge's appearance, though he couldn't help but notice how Riza didn't seem to be bothered at all by him. Hmm, she's not scared one bit, he thought. In fact, I think he's just made her angry. He leaned back in his seat, watching curiously as Riza sent out her Corphish to counter Surge's Electrike. "That's a bold move," he mumbled, but he suspected that Riza must have had some sort of a plan in mind if she was giving herself the disadvantage to start.

As Kilik started to head up the stairs, a sudden vibration went through his entire leg. "Just a sec, Mittens..." he said, sliding away from her. He pulled his PokeNav out of his pocket and flipped it open. It was a message from his mom. "Meet me at the Center. Mittens, you go on ahead. I'll catch up later, or something." the boy recalled both his Electabuzz and his Treecko, attaching their Pokeballs to his belt. He walked up to her and kissed her cheek, then back down the steps, headed back towards the Pokemon Center. He had just left there. How could his mom have gotten there in the time it took him to take a five minute walk out? When he entered the Pokemon Center, it wasn't his mom that he found, but his dad. "Pops?" Kilik raised an eyebrow. He was a bit surprised. "I thought..."
"My boy!" he laughed, hugging his son tightly, "I accidentally grabbed your mother's PokeNav. You see, we were charging them and they both look the same and so...well, mistakes are mistakes! How are you, sonny!"
"You...saw me two days ago," Kilik laughed, feeling rather awkward at his dad's presence. He loved him, yes, but he always felt strange around his father. He was always so upbeat and cheery. How anyone could be like that all the time just blew his mind. "I'm fine, Dad. What brings you to Lil--"
"Sinnoh!" he laughed, putting his arm around his son's waist and walking. Normally, a father would put his arm on his son's shoulders, but as Kilik was much taller than him, he had no other alternative. "Walk with me, son!" the two left the Center and started heading west, back towards the Route leading into town, as if walking to the Safari Zone. "I hear wonderful things about digging up in Sinnoh! A friend of mine called me and said 'Joe, you have to see all these fantastic fossils!' and boy, I tell you, I can't wait to get there! You'll go digging with your old man, won'tcha, boy?"
Kilik scratched the back of his head and put his hands into his pockets. There he went again, trying to get him to fall in line with the whole 'family tradition' of being Pokemon Excavators. He knew that's not what he wanted. He was pretty sure he had told his dad that, too. But if he needed a reminder, then he was going to give it to him. "Look, Dad..." Kilik sighed, stopping in his tracks. "I know you like digging. I know it's what you, grandpa, great-gramps, and great-great-gramps were all about. But that's where it stops, Dad." Kilik sighed heavily. "I'll dig with you in Sinnoh, sure. Maybe I'll find a Pokemon that would make a strong addition to my team." He shrugged and slapped his hands to his sides. "But that's not the life I want to lead, Dad."
He turned around to face his son. Every word that started to come out of his mouth was like a dagger to the heart. His son...not wanting to be a Digger? A Ranmo, not a Digger? This was something that would be newsworthy! "Son, just think about this for a second...you'd be breaking a tradition so long standing that--"
"Dad!" he snapped, "My passion is battling! I want to be as strong as I can be!" he clenched his fists tightly and looked down at the ground. In mere hours, he was going to be leaving Hoenn behind. In a few hours, he was going away to a land so far away that nobody knew him. A place where he could start fresh and get as strong as he could, starting all over. "I want to be a Gym Leader! Who knows?" he laughed half-heartedly and shook his head. "I could be a Champion! Join the ranks of Lance and Steven and Cynthia! What if I were a trainer that powerful, Dad? Would you be proud of me? Or would you be so disappointed that I didn't become a Digger that it wouldn't make a difference?" Kilik was shaking and fighting to hold back tears. He had noticed that he was getting to a point that he was practically yelling at his own father. And the jolly old man didn't exactly look so jolly now.
The man slowly removed his hat and ran a hand through his graying, yet still jet black hair. "Son, I..." he sighed, placing his hat back on his head. "I had no idea that you were so passionate about...battling." A smile made its way to the man's face and the old Joe Ranmo was back to himself. "Right here. Fight your old man. One-on-one." He pulled a Pokeball out of his sports coat and held it out. "They may be high level, but they're certainly out of practice. Give it a shot, my boy."
Kilik's eyes widened. He was going to battle his own father? He couldn't turn down the opprotunity for that experience. Nodding, and brushing his eyes, Kilik snapped Cable's ball from his belt and held it up. "Let's go." And the two men sent out their Pokemon - Cable and Kabutops.

Kilik growled slightly, then remembered that he had the advantage. Kabutops was a Water-type and a Rock-type. It was weak to not only Cable's signature Thunderpunch but as well as his other favorite move: Brick Break. This battle was going to be easier than he thought. Had his father chosen his powerful Marowak or Golem, things might have been a little more risky. Then it clicked in his head. Is my dad going easy on me? Did he pick Kabutops to give me the advantage, knowing that I'd go in with Cable? He shook the thought from his mind. His dad wouldn't do that. He had raised him to give it his all, and he wouldn't have picked Kabutops if he didn't have something planned. "Alright, we'll show him! Cable, go with Thunderpunch!" Nodding, the Electabuzz began to spin his arm around like a windmill, lightning crackling around his entire body. Finally, a powerful opponent! Sure, that Justin guy from before had some good moves, but he could really feel that this Kabutops was going to give him a challenge! There was power just radiating from that thing! With blinding speed, Cable ran towards the fossil and swung his fist right into his foe's gut. Or at least, where he thought it was. The bony opponent felt strange, but he let loose the electricity in his fist and landed the solid hit against Kabutops.
The Fossil, however, took just a step back and barely flinched from the attack. Sure, it hurt, and he'd been out of battle for a long time, but that wasn't a Thunderpunch that he would need to worry about. "Kilik!" Mr. Ranmo laughed, "I may be a Digger, but I worked hard to get there! I know Kabutops was at a disadvantage to Electric-type Pokemon. I've put in training sessions with Wattson from time to time in the past, and Kabutops is quite accustomed to those attacks. Try harder, son! Maybe this will get through! Kabutops!" Joe looked over at his Pokemon with his arms crossed. "Use your Slash attack! Those blades aren't just for show!" The fossil's large head nodded and he ran forward, raising one of his large sickles into the air and slicing straight down onto the Electabuzz.
"Buuu!!" Cable cried out, stumbling backwards. That hurt, a lot. Those blades were cold, and made of solid stone. They weren't like Scizor's. No, not in the slightest. Kilik's eyes widened. That was a powerful hit. Then he raised an eyebrow. Sparks began to cling to the Kabutops' body, and the Pokemon fell to one knee. Static must've kicked in! Way to go, Cable! He made a mental note to try and keep away from those scythes. They were long and they were frightening. They put Scizor's claws to shame, and she was one scary Pokemon. Alright, if I go with a Fighting-type attack, like Brick Break, Dad will tell me he trained night and day with Brawly to accustom Kabutops to those attacks too. But it's worth a shot! "Cable, go with Brick Break! And go all out, cause you've got nothing to lose!"
The Electabuzz straightened out and shivered, every fiber of his being excited from this battle. His tail jittered about excitedly. He pulled both fists back and they began to glow bright white. In the blink of an eye, the Pokemon had made its way to Kabutops and landed a solid uppercut that sent the fossil shooting into the air like a rocket. Using all his strength, Cable jumped up into the air and brought the second fist down on top of his opponent's head. Kabutops took both hits and crashed into the dirt with a loud BANG. He left a decently sized hole in the ground that he managed to get out of. Joe whistled and clapped his hands. "Very impressive, son! That Electabuzz sure is strong! But don't count Kabutops out just yet. He's faced much worse. Just because he hasn't leveled up since he evolved doesn't mean that he hasn't gone through tough battles. As a Kabuto, I remember facing trainers that were even stronger than your friends. And he never gave up, despite always losing. Then he evolved," Joe took off his glasses and dabbed his eyes with his kerchief. "And felt that battling was purely for sport, not to prove strength. To put it into perspective, Kabutops won't battle for, say, a badge, or a Contest. This, son, is a battle that he's having for fun."
Kilik's mouth dropped. So this whole battle was just fun to that Kabutops? "Are you telling me that Kabutops has been toying with me this whole time?" Kilik asked. When his father nodded, he felt like dropping to his knees. How could his father's Pokemon be so strong, yet so unwilling to battle? He never imagined Cable being like that. Was he in the wrong because he only used his Pokemon to battle? Dad always used his three Pokemon for Digging. Did that mean Marowak and Golem were even more powerful, and he just took the middle ground? "Did you pick Kabutops on purpose?"
"I know how much you cherish Cable, son. I knew that, to battle me, you would pick him. I couldn't use Marowak, or you'd surely lose. Golem is weak to just one of your attacks, but Kabutops is weak to two. So, son," Joeseph put his glasses back on, "You should win. Invigorate my Kabutops, Kilik! Make him get back that fighting spirit that he had as a Kabuto, and truly prove yourself to me! If he loses, perhaps then he'll want to battle even more! I gave you the advantage on purpose!"
Kilik looked at Cable, who looked at his trainer in return. Was this irony? The thought that his dad wouldn't go easy on him took his mind over so much that the realization was much harder than it should have been. He took a deep breath. "Alright, Dad. I'll give you everything I have, and more, and I will beat you!"

"Lieutenant...huh. This is going to be interesting." Crenu took a seat a few seats next to Riza's Cyndaquil to watch the match. Crenu watched carefully, the lights suddenly turning on as Lt. Surge made his entrance, the lights flickering on and the massive man that was the Lieutenant surge walking up to his challenger. "Heh, awful confident isn't he? But that can't be all bluster. This Lt. Surge...Riza'd better be careful." Surge sent out his first pokemon, and much to Crenu's surprise it wasn't one he'd seen before. The small green pokemon didn't look very menacing, but he was curious as to what he really had to offer. Surge's pokemon wasn't nearly as surprising as Riza's choice though, he couldn't believe it when he watched her Corphish take her position on Riza's side of the battle field. "Eh? Heh heh, looks like she took my words to heart. Hmm, but it's not as easy as throwing in a disadvantaged type and going for the win. I hope she can make it work for her...but Surge seems like the overconfident type and won't expect anything from her...she can pull this off." He said flatly as he crossed his arms and watched. "Heh heh heh, you sure you're not just playing favorites with your sweetie?" Kenneth said with a big grin as he took a seat behind Jaeshan to watch. "Oh Shiro don't look at me like that. You know I'm only teasing. You're right though, she can beat that Electrike if she plays it right. If the Lieutenant lets his pokemon get to close then Corphish can slam them with her high attack, being underestimated can be a very powerful weapon, but if you don't capitalize on that soon then the opponent will get wise to you're strategy and start playing hardball. Needless to say, this is going to be interesting to watch. Let's be sure to cheer her on! you to cutie pie." He said winking at Eris.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "Ah ha ha, yeah. This is my buddy Zeus, we're good friends. He's my very first pokemon. He shocks me like that a lot actually, but it's kinda my fault. I fall asleep a lot and get into trouble, so he kinda helps me out by keeping me in check before I get into a troublesome situation. Or at least I think that's what he's doing. Better than believing that he just likes shocking me right?" He asked smiling as he looked at Zeus, trying to mat down his hair again. "Who's Proton? Is that the name of your Magnemite? If anything I'd say that Porygon2 is like Zeus. He doesn't say much either...or anything really. I think he's just shy. I dunno. Oh hey, so yeah you're going to Sinnoh too? Cause that's where I'm going. Hmm, I kinda want to buy some stuff first though but I don't know if there's time. Plus I don't want to accidentally fall asleep and miss the ferry. I wanted to go with my friend but I don't know where she is..." He said sounding a little sad as he looked at the ground, but he soon smiled again as he looked up at Kasiya. "Hey you wanna go with me? That way I won't miss the ferry. Come on, please?"

The boat trip was uneventful, though Sam had to go belowdecks again as they passed the whirlpools that surrounded Cianwood. She was a little unhappy she had spent so little time in her hometown, but now that she had had a taste of exploring the world, she couldn't help but want more, even if it did trigger her anxiety sometimes. She laughed as the other passengers became seasick, the whirlpools catching them offguard. She had never felt the slightest sickness aboard a ship. She went back abovedeck when the seas became calmer. She could already see Olivine looming on the horizon. Then again, the Lighthouse was almost visible across the sea. Sam remembered once when she was little, and went with her dad to deliver medicine to Amphy, the Ampharos who powered the Lighthouse. It always seemed to be sick. Her dad was the everything man in Cianwood, a sailor, merchant, detective, anything the townspeople needed. When they had arrived in Cianwood, they had been taking through the winding Lighthouse, up to the very top. There Sam had watched her Dad heal Amphy, and later played with him as he talked to the Olivine Gym Leader. Sam had thought she was really pretty, and had always wanted hairties like Jasmine had. Her mom had even found some for her, but by that time the Staryu fiasco had happened, and the sight of the orange hairties had made her sick. She thought back to those times. She had been barely 10, and had been extremely immature. Everyone suffered defeat once in awhile.
Sam held Devlin still, who was asleep again. He was a tiny bird, and Sam found him quite endearing really. She was grateful Mr. Kuljis had given him to her, and was even happy to have gone through the disaster of interrogation. As Olivine neared, Sam prepared to disembark. She tried to gather up her bag, but found it had gone missing. She searched everywhere, and finally spotted it in a purple pokemon's hand...tail...thing. She dashed after it, sliding on the slightly misted deck, and finally tripping, Devlin spilling out of her arms. She bit her tongue hard, and tasted blood. She got up, ready to pummel the Aipom who had stolen her bag. It contained all of her possesions, even Star's and Mile's pokeballs. She looked up into the eyes of a trainer, who was holding the Aipom tightly in one hand, Sam's bag held out in the other.
"Oh my goodness, I am so sorry! Aiden, what were you thinking?! I'm so sorry, he likes to steal things! Here, let me help you." She set the bag down, and pulled Sam to her feet. Sam shook her head, her tongue sore.
"No really, it's okay. I'm so used to it by now. Crazy stuff like this just happens to me. I can't seem to be normal." Devlin cried from the floor, and Sam quickly scooped him up, attempting to calm him down. The girl's eyes widened.
"Oh, isn't he cute? A Murkrow right?" Sam nodded.
"And that's your Aipom, I'm assuming?" The girl nodded brightly, happy to have been forgiven so quickly.
"Yes this is Aiden. Mischievious, isn't he? Your Murkrow, he looks young, but I was wondering if you wanted to have a battle. Aiden is my baby pokemon, he needs some experience. And if you want, I have a few other stronger pokemon too." She winked. Sam smiled.
"I think Devlin needs that experience too. Alright, a battle it is. Ready Devlin?" He cooed, with as little confidence as possible.
=======
Her dad shook his head, a look of confused fear on his face.
"I'm sorry Miss, y-y-you must be mistaken. I-I only have one child, my boy...." Eztli slowly stood. Her father had changed since she had last seen him. He seemed older, weaker, and less frightening. He had never been cruel to her, but she had always been intimidated.
"Daddy, it's me, Eztli. I came looking for Mix. Is he around?" Her father shook his head, covering his ears.
"No, no you are not! I've spent 11 years trying to bury this! Eztli died in childbirth, along with her mother!" Eztli felt a stab to her heart.
"Daddy....it's me. I was here for 4 years. You sent me away to live with Mixcoatl." Tears sprung to her eyes. "Where is Mixcoatl?"
"Why are you here? Why have you come back? Are you a ghost?" He shook his head violently. Only then did Eztli notice his appearance. He was thin, bedraggled, and was wearing striped pj's.
"Dad? What's wrong? Why don't you want me? I'm your daughter!" He froze, and his face turned red.
"You are no such thing! My only daughter lies there, in that grave!" He pointed to a small headstone in the far corner, roughly hewn. It read in childish scrawl, "EZTLI MALINAL" and that was all. Eztli shook her head in disbelief, and wrung her hands.
"But Dad....I didn't die! I'm right here!" He slapped her, and Eztli fell back, surprised and hurt. Her cheek stung.
"Stop imitating her! You are an evil spirit!" Eztli grabbed his wrist, and saw a small wristband on it.
"Dad...were you in the hospital? How did you get here?" He sat on the ground and rocked back and forth. As Eztli stared in hurt wonder, tears flowing freely down her face, an strong young woman came to the family plot. She helped Eztli's dad to her feet. "Excuse me? What's happening here?" The woman turned only slightly, assisting Eztli's dad out of the cemetary.
"I'm sorry if he hurt you, ma'am. He escaped from our psychiatric ward to visit his wife and child's grave again. Poor thing. It was so traumatic for him, he finally went insane with grief." Eztli blinked a few times.
"But...but....This is my dad! I am his child! Eztli Malinal!" The woman shook her head.
"Please don't torture him further. This sick game will only destroy what little mind he has left." As the woman left, Eztli's dad's arms wrapped around her shoulder, Eztli called out, her voice cracking.
"Where does the Malinal family live?" The woman looked back sadly.
"The only living residents, this man's parents and his son, live on the other side of town." She gave directions, and Eztli thanked her, but only stood still as she watched her father go.

Riza frowned at Surge's comments, glancing idly at the poster on the wall. She wasn't going to let this guy get to her so she decided to pretend like he hadn't said anything. 'We'll show him, won't we Diemia?' she thought as the Electrike ran forward with a spark attack. 'Good! I was hoping that he'd send it in close like that!' She smiled and nodded to her Pokemon. "Diemia, hold your ground," she called. "Wait for the right moment and use vicegrip!" She knew that Diemia's strength was in her claws, and she hoped that they would make Surge's Electrike pay for getting too close.
The Corphish continued to stare down her opponent, not even flinching as the Electrike became covered in electricity. She did as she was told, bracing herself as the electrified tackle slammed into her. It hurt more than she thought it would though she pushed through the pain and brought her claw around, opening it wide in hopes of grabbing hold of the Electrike with her crushing grip. * * * * * The trip back to the pokecenter was relatively quick, and there was an unusual spring in Katie's step as she gave her Pokemon's four poke balls to Nurse Joy, who was now quite chatty and friendly with Katie after she'd gone all the way to Hearthome to deliver the special medicine for the sick Pikachu. Once they were back in her possession she thanked the nurse who then wished her good luck for her gym battle, and Katie stepped out of the pokecenter, feeling quite good about herself and her Pokemon.
She made it to the gym relatively quickly, and this time she stopped out front of the building, hands resting on her hips. "Alright, this is it!" she said, nearly unable to contain her excitement as she strode forward and pulled open the big stone doors. Once inside she could see that there were two paths that would take her to the gym leader, and she figured that there were probably a few trainers along the way that would try to stop her. 'Seraphim will make quick work of them if they try,' she thought, deciding to take the straight forward path ahead. As she predicted, after only a few steps a young boy wearing a boy scout uniform jumped out at her, brandishing a poke ball. "If you want to see Roark, you're going to have to beat me first!" he boasted.
Katie, however, was quite unimpressed. "I have no interest in battling with you," she said haughtily. "I'm here to see your Leader, no one else." She scoffed and walked past him.
"H-hey, wait! You can't do that!" he shouted, running after her and blocking her path. "You have to face me if you wanna get to Roark! Those are the rules!"
Katie sighed. "All right, fine, if you insist. But tell me, do you have any really young pokemon?" she asked curiously.
"Well, yeah, the egg I got from the daycare in Solaceon Town just hatched last night," he said. "Why?"
"I too have a young Pokemon in need of battle experience," Katie told him. "Why don't we let them battle, that way my stronger Pokemon stay in reserve for Roark?"
"Well I guess that's fair," the boy said, nodding. "Yeah, I like it. Okay, deal!" He switched the poke ball he'd been holding with another and opened it. A small Bonsly appeared.
"Good then," Katie smiled, letting Kord out of his ball as well. "So it's your Bonsly against my Elekid. This should be good!"

"Sounds interesting," Keegan mumbled, cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth. "And completely frustrating." For a few moments they just stood there in silence, and Keegan looked down at the Pokeball he still held in his hand. "Yeah, Surge was tough," he said again, tossing it up into the air and catching it once. "I'm heading to Petalburg next to take on Norman," he added as an afterthought. Another badge is just what I need to get back on track, he thought. Yeah, that's it. He pulled the nearly finished cigarette from his mouth and examined it. "Must be rough, having to start over," he said, finishing the smoke and dropping it to the ground before he crushed it with his heel. "Though if you want, I could help you with that." He looked over at Dante and grinned. "Think fast," he said, tossing Kenny's Pokeball at him.

"The Petalburg gym leader is tough, good luck with that." Dante muttered as watching a few people pass on by. Keegan was saying something about helping him out but Dante wasn't quite sure what he ment. He did know that when Keegan said think fast that it would not end well for him. 'Damn it Keegan!' Was all he managed to think before Keegan nailed him right in the forhead with Kenny's pokeball. "********!" That hurt! What the hell Keegan! He should know better then to throw stuff at him! There was no way in hell his bad luck would let an opportunity like that pass it by. Groaning slightly Dante wasn't really paying to much attention to the pokemon that had appeared after its pokeball had been cruelly lobed at his face.
Kenny the Duskull appeared in a small flash a bit confused for a second before he spotted his current trainer and his former one. Giving a happy cry the ghost pokemon circled a few times around his old one as he rubbed his face in pain before giving him a chilling hug that woke him right up.
"Cold!" Dante exclaimed smartly as he looked for the sorce of his new tormentor. However he wasn't upset for much longer when he opened his eyes and was greeted with a skull with one bright glowing eye right in his face. "Kenny?" He asked curiously. He wasn't sure why the ghost pokemon was here. Hadn't he given him to Mike, and wasn't Mike in Kanto or something? Dante wasn't sure on the particulars, he was sure he would hear about them later. The point was he had no idea why Kenny was here but he didn't really care to much. "I don't know what you are doing here Kenny but you are almost exactly the same as I remember you." He said with a fond smile. He would have reached up and patted the pokemon like he had with Levi but his hand would have passed right through.

Kasiya smiled as she listened to Jason talk. He seemed like a pretty friendly kid and she liked him already. "Oh, Proton? That's the name of my friend's Magneton," she said, nodding. The question did make her think, though. It would be neat to have a Magnemite or a Magneton of her very own someday. However, now that Jason mentioned it, it probably would be a good idea to head over to the department store and stock up on supplies before heading to Sinnoh, as she didn't know when she'd get another chance to do so. Not only that, but the big grin and puppy-dog eyes he was giving her was irresistible. "Oh, all right, let's go," she said, nodding. She leaned down and hugged Levi before putting the Marshtomp back into her Pokeball. "Thanks, Levi," she whispered. "Okay, let's get going. As for you, Turn A, you'd better go outside where Dante is. I'm sure you can take care of yourself just fine, but you shouldn't take any chances." She made sure Jason and Zeus were following her as she made her way outside, waving to Dante and Keegan. I can't believe those two, what a disgusting habit, she thought, rolling her eyes. Before she could take another step however Keegan had very suddenly tossed a Pokeball at Dante, and Kasiya tried not to laugh as the sphere clocked him right in the forehead, and a few seconds later Kenny had appeared, looking quite happy to see Dante. "Some things never change," Kasiya giggled, looking back at Jason. "Come on, let's go! We don't have much time!" she said, eagerly leading the way towards the Lilycove Department store.
=-=-=-=-= Jaeshan looked over his shoulder at Kenneth and tried not to laugh. He sure had a lot of fun tormenting poor Crenu, but in the short time he'd spent with them he could see that even though he seemingly did it unwittingly, Crenu made himself an easy target for Ken's comments. "Yeah, I agree," Jaeshan said, nodding. "So long as that Corphish can get her claws into Electrike, I think she can handle it. Electrike are a little fragile in the defense department, if I remember correctly, so as long as she can avoid getting paralyzed. I think Electrike can have either Static or Lightningrod as their special ability, though one can't usually tell just by looking." He leaned in a little closer as the call was made for a Vicegrip, and he grinned. "Atta girl, Riza! Show him what you can do!" he cheered.
=-=-=-=-= When he heard Riza's next command, Surge raised an eyebrow. "Vicegrip?" he repeated, having fully expected for the girl to call for an evasive move. Electrike's speed carried him right through the Bubblebeam and right into the Corphish's eagerly awaiting claw, and the canine-like Pokemon let out a yelp of agony as the powerful claw clamped down on his foreleg. He tried with all his might to free himself, but the more he struggled the tighter the Vicegrip felt, and not only that but the more it hurt, as well. "Enough playing around," Surge barked, raising a fist. "Electrike, use Headbutt! Go!"
Though the Corphish still had a firm hold on his leg, Electrike still had enough slack to thrust his body forward, and he lowered his head as he attempted to slam his skull into Corphish's chest. Perhaps this would be enough to make her let him go. Not only that, but both Electrike and Surge knew that if the Corphish were to keep in contact like that, sooner or later Electrike's Static ability would kick in and paralyze Diemia.

Naturally, Keegan burst into laughter when he saw the Pokeball smack Dante right between the eyes, and he laughed even harder as Dante swore at him. "Hey Dante, you know that 'think fast' means that you're supposed to actually think fast, right?" he snickered. He glanced over at Kasiya and the Jason kid and waved back, wondering where they were heading.
He turned his attention back once Kenny had been released, and he grinned again, wondering just how he should word his next statement. "Let's just say that Mike wasn't exactly in the right state of mind to take care of Kenny, so he passed him on to me, and now, I think you should take him back. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't want to take care of him, I just think he'll be better off with you, and that you'll be better off with him. Besides, I've still got Shiva, and Moeder too. From what my mom has told me, Moeder's made things easier at home because she's so good at taking care of all the baby Pokemon there." He stuck his hands in his pockets and watched the reunion between his friend and the Duskull. Of course, if Dante wanted his Sealeo and Kangaskhan back as well, Keegan wouldn't hesitate to grant Dante that wish. After all, he'd been in a similar position with Helios, whom would probably still be under the care of Sheridan had she not had a change of heart.
