Angelina was disconcertingly quiet the whole time, her eyes transfixed on the needle. Aubrey came close and wiped the shoulder with alcohol. The scared girl took a slight intake of breath and steeled herself as the needle broke the skin and Aubrey began to drain the syringe into her.
Almost as if the liquid from the needle 'overflowed' her, silent tears spilled over onto her cheeks as the liquid sent a tingle down her arm.
It fate was sealed now. She stared blankly at the wall as Aubrey finished and began to put away the equiptment.

Ambrose winced along with Angelina.... the feeling of guilt growing heavier on his shoulders as he saw the tears spill from his eyes. His tail sought refuge between his legs.
His fault....
A whimper escaped his throat again.
It's not a bad animal! It was happening to all of them
But it was still HIS fault.
He wanted to turn away, but to do so would be leaving Angelina even more alone than she already was. She was rarely quiet... until she came to the island here.... and was a stranger to everyone.... a freak in her humanity... and a prisoner because she loved him.
He steeled his jaw, eyes burning with frustration and guilt. It wasn't fair.

Angelina didn't say a single word until they were back at their duplex. She steeled her eyes on the ground, and even Aubrey threw several guilt-ridden worried looked to Ambrose.
Back at the duplex she slumped down on the bed, hesitantly looking up to Ambrose.

Ambrose couldn't bare to meet her eyes the entire walk back, staring down at hir feet as they created small puffs of dust in the now dry dirt road that stretched between the lab and the village.
Now, more than ever, punctuated the reality of the situation that Angelina was bound to the same fate as he.
"I'm sorry." He finally managed when they were back in the duplex, and once again the wolfman wrapped himself around her, hoping that his presence would be a comfort and not a reminder of her fate.

Angelina's shoulders shook slightly as she itched at the small red p***k on her arm. "Could have been worse..." she finally stuttered out. "I...i...i thought I'd be more relieved but now that its happened.. I just.. I can't..." she buries her head in her hands, not knowing what to say.

His eyes searched her face for the rest of her sentance.
"It could have been much worse, Angelina! I mean... I could go fetch the book... we could see what a genet is... but it didn't sound bad! Not bad at all! I mean... you were scared of being an insect... or a reptile - and you're not! It's not even a rabbit or a deer or something a wolf would normally.." He gulped. "Eat."
His words spilled out quickly, trying to reassure her.

He looked down again. It was hard to see her so sad...
his fault.
He wouldn't cry.... he was stronger than that. Ambrose had conditioned himself for years to be strong, to hide his emotions. He was most open around Angelina after years of berating him for the stony wall he wore most of the time. Oh so long ago... But old habits died hard. But still, his eyes stung with withheld tears of frustration, sympathy and guilt. When they ventured up they were spiderwebbed in red, bloodshot veins.
"I never said that." He replied.
"I.... I'm sorry you're here." He finally said the words that had been thumbling repeatedly through his mind. He was hardly even aware he had finally spoken them aloud.

Angelina looked up at him with a pained expression. She wasn't exactly happy she was here. And, as much as she hated to think on it, in her gut she knew it was, mostly, Ambrose's fault.
But all that didn't matter anymore.
She reached over and took his paw. "I just want to be where you are."

It was only through a tantamount effort of will that the tears weren't spilling down his face. In exchange, his chest burned with a bitter fire.
"I know.... but.." His face twisted, the guilt written in the creases of his skin. "
"But you shouldn't have to be here. You shouldn't have to be.... to change. Unlike everyone else here, you're here because of ME. And.... and I love you... and I never wanted to be parted from you.... but but...." His words were twisting. Things weren't fitting together in his mind and even less so in the words that came from his lips. "But you're here and this shouldn't happen to you.."
He pulled a deep breath, still refusing to cry. "I want to help you.... but... I don't know what to do."

"There's nothing you can do," she sighed, feeling morose. "And playing the 'shoulda coulda woulda' game just... ugh."
She wrapped her arms around her middle, suddently feeling very sick. "I don't feel well," she murmered. "Can we just lay down... I suddenly feel very tired."

"of course.." He managed, quietly, holding her tight against him. He wouldn't lose her again... he'd hold onto her for dear life... no matter what. No matter what.
She...she'd need him tonight, and he refused to go anywhere. "I'm here, Angelina. Always."

"I know." She forced a smile and leaned into his fur. She figured this would be a bad time to bring up that he pointed wasn't always there before, which is what brought her here to begin with. "Should I feel this tired...?" She closed her eyes and took a breath.

"I... I don't know... It always gave me nightmares.... and I was always asleep. But... after the first time I did feel tired. I'm sure it's natural." He reassured, wrapping tigher around her.
"I'll be here all night. Try... try not to fight it." He got up only for a moment to fill a glass with water and fetch a washcloth that he left on the bedside table... just incase.
He settled into the bed, and piled the pillows around them, tucking the two of them into the comforter. He kissed her forehead as he snuggled next to her, trying to make her comfortbale as possible. "I'm here." He repeated. "Just... relax... and try to sleep and not think about it." His words faded to a whisper as he flicked off the light and prepared himself for a vigilant... sleepless night.

Angelina felt kind of sweaty all over. Flushed, a bit neausious, and generally just like she got a bad roller-coaster. But she did as told, she sunk into him and tried not to thinkt oo much on the pain.
She cried quietly to herself, more of a mourning to her former self than a act of pure sorrow. She found her energy draining, and began to slip in and out of sleep.
