Zelda blinked and moved a bit closer. "That is..." She trailed off, frowning. "That can't be the Sage," she said, shock clear on her face. "He was just here, and you were fighting that... man with him." She gestured vaguely to the fairy. "That is not him. That is a fairy." Suddenly she put her hand up to cover her mouth and turned slightly pink. "Not that there is anything wrong with being a fairy," she added apologetically to the fairy itself.

"He doesn't normally look like this," Link smirked as he poked at the yellow fairy, but suddenly a thought occurred to him, "How did you know what happened in there?"
(Yath specified that Bowie and Zelda were locked out of the room)

Arryl smirked. "Please. Heat I can deal with. I live in the desert; I'll be fine." In truth, she wasn't sure. Quite aware of how hot it must be for rock to melt, she was slightly concerned. Then again, there was a temple, and it couldn't all be boiling hot magma. ((Pinky to mouth!)) She'd survive, that was for sure.
Miraculously, the eruption never came. They marched up to path to the easy climb up the cliff. "Up," Arryl said. "I'll be right beside you, don't think about pulling anything.

Gustave grumbled slightly, and said, "Well... I don't think it really matters..." He sighed, and continued, "Link! We need to get going to the next sage! He or She may be in danger right now!" He turned toward Zelda, and said, "From here... which temple would be the closest...?"

Zelda suppressed a small smile; the idea of fairies had always held a certain wonder for her. "It is nice to meet you as well," she said with a barely detectable edge of sarcasm. "I believe the next nearest temple is probably either the fire temple or the shadow temple, but only by a little bit. With the obvious exception of the Spirit temple, they are all reasonably close."

"Oh no no no no, this was not part of the deal. I came here to save my friend and that's what I did, I'm done," Link responded stubbornly, crossing his arms and shutting his eyes tight, "If Gus wants to spend the rest of his life as a fairy, that's his own business, all I know is, I'm goin' home!"

Zelda raised her eyebrows. "Well, we certainly don't want to force you to do anything you don't wish to," she said, with a definite coolness in her tone. She held out her hand. "If you would be kind enough to give me the master sword, the weapon destined for the protector of Hyrule..." She paused significantly. "I will return it to the Temple of Time so that he can claim it when he arrives."

Link removed the sword from his back, fully prepared to hand it over... and yet something seemed to be holding him back, "Look, I'm just eighteen years old, why don't cha send your guards or the royal army to rescue the sages, why me?"

Zelda kept her cool mask in place, hoping that none of the hurt she felt was showing through. "I am not sending you," she replied softly, the gentle tone of her voice contradicted by her eyes, which were like twin ice chips in her pale face. "You are giving me the sword, and I am going to put it back. Then I am going to wait for the real Hero of Time to show up, and if he doesn't, I am going to go and rescue the Sages myself. This is all my fault, and I am going to make sure it gets fixed." To her horror, her voice was becoming choked with tears, and she could feel the hot liquid gathering behind her eyes. She looked at the ground and hoped that Link wouldn't notice.

Though her words were strong, Link could see the tears welling up in the girl's eyes. "What do you mean, what exactly is going on?"

Zelda heard his voice soften slightly and sighed; he'd noticed. She looked up, thankful that no tears had gotten past her eyelashes. She was just so tired, and this was all so horrible and frightening, and here was Link, saying that he wanted out. She bit her lip, wondering what she should tell him. If she made it seem easier than it really was, then he might stay; on the other hand, if he got killed because she misrepresented what was expected of him...
She swallowed. "Gannondorf, the reincarnated King of Evil, is attempting to both kill you and take over Hyrule. He might not even realize that this is what he wants to do, as of yet, but it is part of who he is. He is attempting to kidnap the new sages, descendants of the originals, and imprison them in their temples, probably so that you won't have access to them. Originally, he was just using them to obtain the triforce of power; he didn't realize he already had it."
She paused for breath, then continued. "Your job is to rescue the sages and then defeat Gannondorf. My job is to make sure that that happens." She smiled, although it was a shaky, uncertain smile. "Questions?"

"No," Link sighed, this time he was the one acting cool, "Well, I suppose if you're that desperate to be with me, I can't exactly say no, though I should probably tell Ma where I'm going," Link commented mostly to himself, then yawned, suddenly remembering what time it was, "But first, to catch up on my sleep, We'll take you home tomorrow Bowie."

Zelda took a small step backward, caught between being stung by his tone and being glad that he was staying. After a moment, she decided that no real good could come from bringing either up. "Where do you plan on spending the night?" she asked. "For all we know, Gannondorf is waiting right outside the temple, and I won't have enough magic to transport us anywhere else until I get sufficient sleep." She looked around the room doubtfully. "I suppose we could just stay here..."

Link had already fallen asleep before the Princess finished her thought. With the adrenaline gone, he was exhausted and found himself comfortable even in a temple infested with monsters.
On the steps of the Spirit Temple, the cool wind blew at the girl's bare shoulders. Though the cool air nipped at her skin, Lyra didn't mind. Something in the pit of her stomach told her that something was wrong and she couldn't seem able to fall asleep. But still, she had one thing to be thankful for, the crisp air made the stars shine brightly, a sight she treasured more than anything else in the world.

Zelda looked over at Link and smiled slightly, then carefully knelt on the floor. If she could use what little energy she gained from her catnap to bring her saddlebags to her, she'd be substantially less sore in the morning. She closed her eyes, and was soon surrounded by a soft golden light. Then next moment, her familiar, overfull bags were in front of her.
She almost collapsed right there; only sheer force of will allowed her to lay out her bedroll and climb into it. She was asleep seconds after her head hit the pillow.
