I have that same problem Rol, its very rare that I'll talk to someone first. However if I get along with them good enough I'm not so shy afterwards.

it depends, i only talk to people with like interest. I find like interests are imporant. so id not approach the set girl unless i saw common ground

Most of my friends were introduced to me by other friends, or made the first move to talk to me. The internet is a little different, with the veil of anonymity and all that. A factor which can be removed when you choose too.
Holy s**t. This may be why I prefer the internet to real life. xd

I was talking to a friend of mine about how I would have to find friends.
I'm scared of strangers, so I won't approach them.
Guys will only approach me if they thought I'd be a potential mate, which I do not want.
My only chance is if a dominant/confident/extroverted female approaches me.
Through her, I'd be able to make friends with others.

You know what though, actually, now that I think about it, after working at a grocery store for 3 years, I actually HAD to talk to random people, since their big focus was "customer connection"
some jarble about Smile, Greet, Engage, Sell, Thank
and we had to do that with EVERY customer in a 10 foot radius...some crap about the 10foot/second rule
If we saw a customer, we either had 10 seconds to engage them if they were up close, or engage them first, if we saw them within 10 feet...
