i figured out something in the second part of sierra's commission that i think will ultimately work me past this block. you see, when i was idly doing it for free, the last trial at a drumloop for this had me set up one that i called "south" because it was sounding something like a new orleans beat... if i would've found the triggerman beat, that would've been that. sierra would've been handed some lulzy celtic bounce. but when she put money down and changed things up.. and i decided to still use this somewhere, i was kinda stumped because it wasn't in the style requested at all. "like dynasty warriors music" this second section is to be, and it's just my terrific luck that i had a bunch of DW music when i dl'd mugen.
i realized that i was approaching the style all incorrectly. i still had the "sierra south" track playing, when i was trying to think ds... which was rock. WRONG. while it allowed me time to clean up the first two sections and start deciding how i was going to switch time signatures in fl studio, it ultimately held me back from doing what i wanted, was converting that material into something respectable.
to transfer the music from finale to fl studio, it has to be made into a midi and then imported. another instance of fl studio might have to be loaded when that's done, so i can see what instruments i'm already using-- no need to worry much about copying piano roll channel info [and the inability to copy things from one instance and paste to another], because all of it is refined in the midi version that's getting put back into the studio anyway. make sure instruments match as they did before, check voicings and balance, and add the drums, guitar, and whatever else didn't work prettily in finale for a lack of midi channels and the way midi does the 10th channel [universally and automatically set as the percussion channel] writing on a staff, and two sections are down. third section being worked out, which will see lots of progress when i import. fourth section gets work soon; 5th section is a more grandoise version of the first and all others.
there will be NO midi version. if such is desired for live playing, then... whatever. there is no need to stress about how ugly things look right now. i'm the only one looking at the sheet music.
when the import takes place, there will be no need to worry about time signature switching, since fl studio will force the 6/8 first section to fit in correctly enough with the parts that follow. Just make sure it's ordered correctly and things will be fine. though time signature is no problem, the tempo does have to be controlled. one long line at the very bottom, or a couple of short automation edit clips would do the trick.
with the new style, an extended melody and rocking solo kinda thing is to be considered.
despite the minimal amount of notes actually put down compared to other grind sessions, there was tons of conceptual progress made. that means i can unhook the keyboard from the comp and sleep unconcerned. this also means that i know exactly what i need to do when i wake up.
*lh tag thing edits *NOISE III logo *render midi, transfer to fl studio
final thought for this post: one of those christian children's fund commercials came on, and i had it low so i could hear the music better. it was for this that i thought that gary jules' mad world was playing in its bg. you know, "i find it kinda funny, i find it kinda sad. the dreams where i am dying are the best i've ever had." it wasn't, though.
