I actually prefer a hunting/sniper rifle, and then open up VATS mode.
They'll never see me coming.

Fallout 3 was awesome but it lacks two big things that Red Dead has going for it, vehicles and shooting from vehicles and a lasso. Shooting something from 300 yards is cool, roping someone off a horse, hog-tying them and then riding off with him slapped onto the back of your horse is even better.

Did you forget about Fallout 3's exploding pants? Or the fun in disabling the combat inhibitor on Cerberus, having it go on a rampage in ghoul city?
The mini-nuke?
Watching a super slow-mo of an enemy exploding into pieces when you grenade them in VATS?
EDIT:: And watching them making a leap of faith during death, in the meantime?

o.O Just a bit xd No, Bed Spins is the term I use for sensatin one sometimes gets during the adverse after affect of excessive drinking where everytime one lays down or sits they have the stomach churning feeling of spinning. It's horrid!
