Ex-Professor Remus Lupin

PostPosted: Thu Sep 29, 2005 4:39 am

(ooc: and it shall be written that I seem to be the one to do this job.)

"Is she safe?" Remus looked away from Magorian toward where he had left Kathryn. The mare had moved toward the young girl, looking menacingly at her.

"Wait!" he said, stepping out from behind Sirius toward Kathryn. "She's a child, you can not harm her, even by your own laws, because of what she is."

"The magical contract is that we must not kill those who enter," Magorian said, ignoring Remus. "As for the child, she will not be harmed, Kare shall not harm her." the female Centaur didn't seem pleased with this idea, but she nodded anyways, still glaring at the young werewolf.

"As for you three," Magorian looked sharply toward them once more. "You have broken your own magical contract. We told Dumbledore that no more would we have you wandering in our forest. He should be fully aware of this."

Magorian glared at them and the other stallion pulled back further on his bow, aiming at the two men, ignoring the woman. Remus stepped back, grabbing Sirius' arm. "Liz, let Liz handle this," he said softly, motioning toward her. Fire had crawled up her arms and the Centaurs, in their discussion wit them, had ignored them.

Remus saw it before anyone else did. Another Centaur had appeared, effectively negating Liz's power with his own and holding a normal wooden spear to her throat. "Where's the deux et machina when you need one?" he asked lowly.

(ooc: I'll leave you guys to get us the hell out of this mess...after all 'god in the machine'. wink )

Liz straightened up abruptly as the razor sharp edge of the arrow point grazed her neck. She could feel what little magic she had in her be drowned away but what did that matter.

"If you wanted my magic all you had to do was ask. I would have gladly handed over my wand." She said with a grin as the centaur held her the flames disappearing from around her arms. With a snap of her fingers a drop of red liquid fell to the earth and spread as the napalm seethed out towards the centaur's hoofs, which allowed for the creature to jump back from the burns and allow Liz to be free.

"When it comes to dealing with a witch who's magic is only a hair above that of a muggle, you don't know what to do." Carefully moving back along the tree where the arrow had been lodged into, making sure not to turn her back to the enemy. she grabbed it and yanked it out. "Calm down, Remus." She said looking at the still shocked man beside her.

Moving back up to the front she looked over the small group of centaurs. With a wave of her hand in front of her, flames flew from her fingers and lit a small, controlled, wall of flame between the centaurs and themselves.

"I have this blaze controlled. If you want to push on with the problem, feel free, and I will allow the flames to do as they wish. Leave us to our game of scavanger hunt, and we'll be out of your hair. We do not mean any harm to any of you, or anything else within this forest." She explained as she waited for the centaur's reply.

Kathryn stood still as the Centaur moved ever closer.
"Wait! She's a child, you can not harm her, even by your own laws, because of what she is." Remus said, stepping out behind Sirius and advancing owards Kathryn. The verbal battle raged onwards, the Centaurs seemed to have the upper hand. A fourth Centaur had already crept up.

"As for the child, she will not be harmed, Kare shall not harm her Said the Lead Centaur, who looked agitated. The black mare grunted and nodded but her eyes did not free the girl. Kathryn could not feel relieved, for she was now worried about her companions. The other stallion had aimed his bow directly at the two older men, pulling back further on the string. Watching helplessly she saw Liz threatened by the spear of the newly arrived Centaur. What happened next occured all do fast, soon Liz had created a blazing inferno between the Centaurs and themselved. Kathryn could almost pity the poor Centaurs, they only wanted what was best for the forest. Cringing at what would come next, she closed her eyes, already the flame had begun to make her eyes water. She felt like a bag of flour, a third wheel, she did nothing to contribute to this, she was not brave like Sirius who stood protectively in front of Remus, she wasn't sharp-witted or quick enough to try battle the Centaurs with words or accusations, and she wasn't nearly enough powerful to conjure a wall of flame. Annoyance and self-hate burned in the pit of her stomach like a writhing snake. Why couldn't she stand up for them, why did she find it impossible to stand infront of her friends, and most of all, why was she being treated like she was some sort of defenseless child?

"Because they are stronger than you, and besides, your just a teenager" Said a voice sagely in the back of her head. She had to agree, she wasn't that great of a witch. But as she opened her eyes and looked at the wall of flame in front of her she smiled to herself. Atleast she wasn't reckless and that was one thing.

(ooc: it would seem that it is my job to be the Centaurs this time.)

Magorian pulled away from the flame fearfully. Kare had already retreated away from the girl, her black eyes wide as she watched the flames. But, Elnath, already fearful of fire due to an accident when he had been a foal, forgot himself. The bow string snapped. The arrow flew true, hitting its mark in the male werewolf's left shoulder. He watched the werewolf fall to the ground, crying out in pain.

"I have this blaze controlled. If you want to push on with the problem, feel free, and I will allow the flames to do as they wish. Leave us to our game of scavanger hunt, and we'll be out of your hair. We do not mean any harm to any of you, or anything else within this forest."

The forest. He would not put the forest into such dangers over these humans coming into it. He signaled to the others. "Human, if only to prevent the destruction of our home, we will allow you to remain her until nightfall. If you are not gone until then," he motioned to the wounded werewolf. "Expect a far worse punishment than this."

Then, with a final glare at the group, he turned and cantered away, making sure that he left Kare to watch them until they left.

(ooc: God, I'm just cruel to my character aren't I? I didn't want to hurt Kathryn. Silver arrow in shoulder. Gah! gonk )

Sirius nearly died inside as Remus stepped out of behind him. He moved so he could watch Remus and Kathryn while keeping Liz and the Centaurs in the corner of his eyes. As Magorian lifted his bow and aimed, he moved forward to shield Remus, as the other man stepped back and grabbed his arm.

"Liz, let Liz handle this."

Sirius looked over to her while shifting his arms so he could tightly clasp Remus' hand in his own. He started to nod, as another Centaur appeared and held a spear to her throat. He let out a growl and inched forward, but stopped after Liz started speaking. He backed up slightly, clutching onto Remus and quickly shifting his gaze towards Kathryn to make sure she was safe.

As he did so a wall of flames jumped up and Sirius bit his bottom lip hard enough to make it bleed to contain the yelp of surprise that threatened to escape. He could feel the heat radiating off of it and his eyes watered. He moved slightly and glanced back over to Kathryn. He glanced to Remus and sighed before looking over at her.

"Kath--" his voice cracked and Sirius turned his head and cleared his throat before looking back at her. "Kiddo? You ok? You uh...wanna, maybe...come over here?" Sirius asked quietly as Liz waited for a response from the centaurs.'For my own peace of mind over anything else' his thoughts finished.

A bow suddenly snapped Sirius felt more then heard Remus fall and scream. He immediatly twisted around and pulled Remus up frantically off the ground, then carefully maneuvered him on to his back, his torso slightly raised.

"Remus! Remus!" Sirius cried unsure what to do. He looked at the arrow buried in his shoulder and grimaced, grabbing it with one hand while he steadied the man with his other and pulling as hard as he could. Tears fell down his face as he twisted the arrow hard and finally managed to pull it out sobbing.

"I'm sorry...I'm sorry...I'm sorry.." he cried, pulling Remus up after tossing away the arrow, his hands covered in blood. His mind went blank as he cradled the werewolf to him, staring down at the blood. He sobbed and rocked Remus back and forth.

"Please..." he whispered. "Please...I'm sorry..."

The bow string snapped. Remus' brown eyes widened as the arrow buried itself into his shoulder, the silver sending a shock of pain through his body. His legs gave out beneath him and he was sure he had screamed. Instinctively, he reached for the arrow to pull it out but at the last minute, his own adversion to the metal had him leaving it in to burn him.

He wanted to die.

Oh, dear God, it wasn't stopping. Why wasn't it stopping? Sirius.

He felt hands on his shoulder and was aware through the haze of pain that he was being moved. Then, he felt a hand on his shoulder and the pressure of the silver as it was twisted and pulled from his shoulder. He howled. He was sure of it. The pain wasn't stopping.

Sirius.

"Please...I'm sorry..."

He tried to speak, but was finding it difficult. He couldn't move much further beyond the pain. But...he found himself almost burrowing into Sirius' arms, whimpering like a beaten dog would. His fingers clenched tightly on the front of Sirius' shirt.

"Sirius..." he rasped. "...don't...lea-," he couldn't talk and he wasn't even sure what he was saying. It hurt so much. The wound was trying to heal and the pain had increased ten-fold. With a whine of pain, he buried his face into Sirius' chest.

( gonk Trying to remember when my shoulder got dislocated. I'm never getting hurt again. Next time, someone else gets wounded.)

Sirius held onto Remus tighter as he felt him reacting.

"Remus! Remus please!" he pleaded as the other man managed to rasp out his name.

"I'm right here...I'm not going anywhere. Please Remus please!" He wasn't sure what he was pleading for, but he was pretty confident Remus wouldn't be able to do much. He thought of the times in school and after. Remus was always the one who could actually fix something, and make it seem alright. But now...Sirius was afraid to admit it...

"Remus...some one...help me please...I...I don't know what to do..." he sobbed, bowing he head down closer to Remus.

A far off voice brought her back from the comforting depths of her mind, the voice sounded troubled, it was Sirius.
"Kiddo? You ok? You uh...wanna, maybe...come over here?" Sirius said, his head twisting from Remus to herself. Kathryn turned her head towards him, her eyes still widened, she had the look of a doll, an eerily stony glaze. Nodding very slightly with her head she took a tentative step forward.

A string of a bow snapped and the whistle of something cutting through the air sounded. It was if everything happened in slow motion, the arrow digging deep into the older werewolf's shoulder and the cry of pain. She felt as if she was in an "out of body experience" Everything seemed so much more intensified. The Centaurs galloped away, the bow hung over his shoulder. Kathryn opened her mouth several times and shut it again, as if lost for words. The man was almost dying and Kathryn could only stand and gulp like a fish.

Finally her voice came through in a hoarse grunting tone. "Holy ********..." She croaked, sweating profusely. She rushed over to Remus and kneeled beside him.
"Remus...Remus... C'mon mate your going to be fine..." She whimpered, not entirely truthful about her words. Looking around she grabbed a nearby piece of branch and held it aboce Remus' face. "Bite this... If it hurts that bad"

(ooc: short post, because my character is in pain.)

After a moment, the pain had gone from shooting jolts of lightning down his spine to a throbbing ache that he could deal with. Sort of. Trying to gather his wits about him, he leaned carefully and slowly away from Sirius, releasing the death grip on his shirt and smoothing it out absently.

"I'm fine," he said slowly after a moment. "Just, oh ********, I never want to look at silver so long as I live. Liz, stick that thing in your pants, they're big enough to hide it."

He took a deep calmly breath and pulled reluctantly away from Sirius, trying to stand. He nearly collapsed again, catching himself by grabbing onto Sirius' shoulder. He breath was coming out of short, shallow gasps, but his legs were working, not perfectly, but they were working.

(ooc: okay, I think that's all for now.)

Sirius pulled Remus down into his lap, not caring what he said. He shook his head and held on to the werewolf tight.

"...bleeding..." he murmured as he wrapped his arms around the werewolf, letting his hair hide his tears. "...couldn't protect you..."

Let someone else be sensible and take care of Remus--Sirius was to incoherrent to help out anyways. So long as the warm body stayed in his arms though...he knew it would be alright...it had to be alright.

Remus decided he didn't really care at the moment that he was a thirty-eight-year-old man wrapped in the arms of another said thirty-eight...or was it thirty-six now because of the deaths thing...he shuddered and decided he didn't really care as long as he just stayed there.

He was aware of movement and voices perhaps of the others, but nothing much else as he tried to concentrate on the wild heartbeat that Sirius' heart was making. He rested on of his hands on Sirius' chest, above where said heart was, and muttered, "Too fast...calm...'m used to pain."

As Liz watched the centaur's retreat, she was all to aware of what had happened behind her. Her intentions were to keep anyone else from getting hurt and she wanted to make sure the danger had made itself lost.

With a wave of her hand the flames flew up into the air in a puff of smoke and were gone, leaving the earth strangly uncharred. Turning she looked at the scene before her.

"Damnit. Those ******** basturds. I swear one of these days s**t is going to hit the fan." She said angrly as she bent down to look over the scene. Placing the arrow in one of her pants pockets she looked over the gaping wound in Remus's shoulder.

"I'm terribly sorry, Remus. The anger inside me took over and I didn't think that the centaurs would be so startled. I just wanted them away from us." She shook her head. "If it's any help at all, I can help null the pain by averting your thoughts to focus on another." She said as she opened her palm in front of her and a small blue flame appeared hovering above it. A breeze blew and wafted through the flame allowing a cool light fog to drift over all of there heads as the mist in the air slowly evaporated.

"Too fast...calm...'m used to pain." The thought didn't exactly reassure Sirius as it should've. He clenched his eyes fighting back the rage, the reckless part of his mind that he was trying so hard to repress was screaming, trying to get him to dump Remus in Kathryn's arms and go after the Centaurs.

He defied death once after all, didn't he? That had to amount to something.

He was so caught up in holding onto Remus while fighting an inner battle he didn't notice anything else going on behind him. Not even Liz speaking snapped him out of the trance.

And all things considered--that was probably for the best, as it would only make it easier to dump Remus and run off knowing that no one was really officially protecting them, and Liz could probably take care of the werewolf 10 times better then he.

Tossing the branch over their heads into a nearby tree she sighed again. Was the Forbidden Forest going to always be like this? Someone getting hurt? She curse Dumbledore and his plans, but maybe this was all part of another scheme, Dumbledore, no matter how foolish, was a great guy. Looking down he saw the two older men wrapped in each others arms.
"Errr..." Kathryn mumbled placing a hand behind her head and scratching. The older werewolf seemed to ignore everything except Sirius, and Sirius too was to wrapped up Remus... Literally.

As Liz held out her hand and the blue-bell flame appear Kathryn frowned as the mist engulfed their heads. She raising her hand and wafted it away from her with a frown of annoyance. It was hard enough to see without a fog in the way. But as soon as that thought left her brain so did the fog and Kathryn looked between the older people and finally opened her mouth.

"Err Mr. Lupin?" Kathryn asked, trying to bring him back to reality. Rolling her eyes shje put a hand in her satchel and pulled out a silk, marroon Hankerchief, obviously not used, (It's not Winter so no colds for Kathryn). Pulled her wand out she muttered the "Aquamenti spell" and tossed it towards Remus which plopped down on his chest.
"I'd wash that wound if I were you" She muttered and walked a bit further along the path, before turning around and folding her arms defensively.

[OOC: x_X; I am so late with this.]

Severus sighed and put his face into his hand as he walked into the forest. Draco hopefully was behind him. He hated Dumbledore for this--he had better things to do than some scavenger hunt!

Removing his hand, he stopped walking and glanced at the floor. The first item was a bone. Surely there should be plenty somewhere. Perhaps deeper into the forest?

Deeper... the Potions Master grimaced at the thought as he took his wand out. Without looking back, he went further within.
