My flute is so nice, I love my flute. It was my mom's when she was a kid. She like saved up for it and bought it herself with her own money (she bought it for 300 in montana. The flute I have would like cost over 1000 here today though.) Then my cousin amber used it, and now I play it. All of the silver cover things for the corks fell off (those where all my cousins fault blaugh ) but I can still take the corks out and stuff. I have been wanting to look at piccolos and other flutes though. Whats an alto flute like anyway?

Awww that is so cute! A flute passed down. ^___^ You should really try the piccolo. It's awesome! But once you play it, you're probably gonna wanna play that instead of a flute because it's just so much fun. After awhile it feels like you're playing a tuba as to the trumpet sweatdrop Blehhh. But go for the piccolo!! It's fun =]

I totally agree about the piccolo being better than the flute. I wish I had one. Last time I played it, I loved it so much. The thing is I'm not sure whether to save up for a new flute (I've been borrowing one for more than a year because mine only plays one note), or a piccolo. If I do get a piccolo, I will need a flute, because I'd have to have both. This sure is a dilly of a pickle!

hhm i guess you sorta would need both. since the piccolo cant go as low as the regular flute...it would sound a little weird playing so high on a song that was meant to be low. Hehehe good luck on your flute/piccolo expedition! XD

Tru 3nodding I agree.

C Flute is the most important of all flute family. There's a piccolo, octave higher than C, there's D picc, E flute, G flute(the alto flute), Bass flute (octave lower than regular C), Contrabass flute, and Subcontrabass flute. Great flutes. I luv them all the same. I luv c the most cuz it's the one everyone use. U can't be a piccoloist and not play flute cuz it is a requirement for a piccoloist to be able to play both instruments even though u will not need it in the orchestra most of the time.

Any how it's not useless. Cuz C being the most basic, if u can't play it, u r just telling other people u r useless when u have 2 play flute.

And Tara~Puget27, Alto fingerings are the same, except it's a fifth lower than flute. If u finger a D on alto, it'll come out as an A. biggrin

holy crap. piccolo, c flute, d piccolo, e flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass and SUBCONTRABASS?!?!?!?! OMG....I think im gonna have a heart attack...T___T....

LOL biggrin

Hey this quote thing is getting real long and annoying >< biggrin

We don't march... so I can't say that I ever have. XD

Out of curiousity, are there any other flute players who absolutely HATE playing marches? stressed We got a march in class yesterday and I realized while we were playing it that I REALLY don't like marches. >> Really, there's only been a couple marches that I've actually like. I prefer overtures and the like.

We got one called 'Flying Tigers' everyone was walkin' around saying 'Flying Tigers and Bears, oh my!' XD but that's beside the point. Uhh... I can't say I exactly 'hate' it, I mean I don't really like the melody of it, but it's not all that bad once you get into it.

Some marches aren't that bad. Like I'm playing a Disney March in band, which is too easy. Though I had such a bad day in band today. When we stood up to say the pledge of alliegence I dropped my flute crying (infront of my band teacher and the whole class! Not that I wasn't already freaking out already at the fact that I had dropped my poor flute. Thankfully it didn't break and nothing got bent. sweatdrop ) I just couldn't play notes today either. Instead of playing a D I'd play a G redface I really don't know why. Though I did play the really really fast part of Fantasia better today, so that was good I suppose.

I personally don't think marches are that bad. Maybe some are, like lv. 1-3 marches, but the marches we played in band like Puple Carnival and the Midway March are great blaugh . Maybe it because it has so much woodwind licks and stuff, but hey, it sounds good to me biggrin . I just don't like Contemporary music. Those are not the best kind of music to be listening to. crying

So, is band your first class? For me band is my last class. We had to play a section in this piece for our exams in band, and since the teacher said we didn't have enough time to have 'private tests' we all had to play out loud in front of the rest of the band. 3nodding

yup, band is first thing in the morning. Which is bad becuase I'm not fully awake during first period. I would much rather have it 2nd or 3rd.

What's wrong with that? Band for our high school has always been last block. Everyone seems to like it that way cuz' we can just chill out and not worry about doing anymore work for the rest of the day biggrin It's nice to just come to band class right after lunch and chill.
