Um.... what's? she said softly, before pausing, frowning slightly as she could hear a low humming sound, unaware that Lucas, unknowingly, hadn't just opened, but amplified the link between them so she could hear what he was hearing. She was unaware he was in an MRI machine for a test to make sure he was healthy. She concentrated, trying to block the link, but finding it hard to do so. I think... Lucas... is doing something... or... something is happening near him. I'm hearing a low hum... honestly, it's annoying, she said softly. ','

Mairi winced slightly as the hum increased in pitch as she felt a strong sense of discomfort, though it faded after a moment or two. I don't know. I don't think Lucas is aware of the connection between us, though. He may be frightened and probably reached out for anything... instinctively latching onto that connection, I suspect, she said softly, sighing softly as she shivered at the phantom sensation of a cool breeze, unaware that the room Lucas was in was rather chilly. ','

Those who would have known of these... connections... are five or six hundred years dead... and my father... was able to find something... that could.... do... forbidden things... like the dead, she said softly, shivering for a completely different reason. She didn't mention that that particular technique required something she'd never do... using a living sacrifice to bring back someone long dead, though even then that would require a genetic marker for said person, which with that particular time period was highly unlikely to be found. ','

Most of that knowledge is lost to nearly every person on the planet, and as far as I know, maybe... three or four, other than Lucas or myself... could even use it. However, I refuse to do so... because much of that knowledge... would either exhaust me to the point where I'd pass out, or worse, end up comatose... or kill me... some of it, however... has requirements that are... disturbing, she said softly as she hugged her mother tightly. ','
