Ace could feel something shift but he was asleep and didn't stir. It would take something similar to a scream or a gunshot to wake him up.

Alyx looked back at him. She knew she'd break his heart if she died, when she died. She was surprised she'd lived this long. 'At least I'll leave him something,' she thought to herself.

Ace continued to sleep, but it became less peaceful as thoughts and dreams pushed into his mind. He started to feel that something was wrong. Slowly his mind started to fight against sleep and wake up.

Alyx closed her eyes. She could feel it just like she had before but it felt nothing like what had been forced on her.

Ace tightened his arms, but there was nothing there. Alyx! He quickly opened his eyes and sat up and looked around for her. Sleep was still clouding his vision some as he looked around.

"Calm down Ace," Alyx said as she opened her eyes. "I couldn't sleep." She then sent him a little image to hint why.

Ace calmed down as he heard her voice as rubbed his eyes to clear them and he saw the image that she sent him. "Is it so?" He asked her as he stood up and walked over to her.

Ace felt his own lips pull themselves into a smile as he wrapped her in his arms. He kissed her softly on her head and looked out into the distance. Not a good place to be a child. He couldn't help but think about what it could be and how it would be raised. A thought occurred to him and he had to ask, he softly whispered "Will..You..Make it?"

Ace didn't say anything to the way she reacted, he feared that she wouldn't make it and she just confirmed that she wouldn't. He tightened his arms around her, as he thought about what to do and where to go.

Alyx closed her eyes. "It'll be fast like before," she said slowly. "I am not afraid but I am worried about you. I know if you lose me it'll hurt you badly. Please don't let what happened to you before happen again. The baby will need you, Ace."

Ace could feel his head becoming heavy as he thought back to what he became. He was quiet a moment before he said "You should know well enough, that I will be there for the baby." He didn't say anything else about what she said, he could already feel something that he didn't want creeping in on him.

Alyx blinked back tears. "Ace please don't become what you were before," she begged. "Even if I do survive I don't have long left. My life expectancy was very short. It's a surprise I'm still alive now."

Ace fought to get his mouth to work as he shook off what was coming towards him. He finally got out quietly "For you and the baby, I will not." He couldn't help the fact that his arms tightened around her. After a moment he slowly loosen his arms around her.
