1225 Space Marine force Forge Father Vulkan He'Stan-195pts Troops 10 Tactical Marines-Flamer 170 10 Tactical Marines-Flamer 170 Scout Squad-Sniper Rifles-75 Elites 10 Sternguard-Power Weapon-265 5 Legion of the Damned-Plasma cannon- 175 Heavy 5 Devastators- Lascannon, 2xMissile Launchers, Heavy Bolter-165
This army is going to be used against a Dark Angels highly mobile army, with bike squads and a Land Speeder squad, a Captain, Chaplain and 15 Tactical Marines, and some terminators if I remember correctly. The Devi's are going to be tasked with destroying the Land Speeder squad, the Tactical marines are going to split up into 4 Combat squads to continually harrass his Tactical squads, the Scouts are going to take the Bikes, Sternguard are going to block up any breaks, and the Legion of the Damned will pop up where they need to, with a Plasma Cannon, they can take out anything he has.

For a 1225 (weird points number) list, you're not looking all that bad. That said, you only have two Flamers in the list and I think that you could do better with a Stock Captain than Vulkan. That and you'd be able to squinch in a few more models elsewhere.

Hmmm, what do you suggest I give the captain? And any other additions to the list.

If you stay with the Vulkan: More flamers/meltas. no other option exists. Also consider assault termies with thunder hammer/stormshields... All of those weapons re-roll to hit, if I'm correct, and re-rolls to hit for your anti-tank weapons sounds like what you need. if you decide to use a normal captain, I personally would go either Jump pack, relic blade, artificier, storm shield, 185 pts or Artificier, Relic Blade, Auxiliary grenades, Bike, 195 pts. My reasoning? Tie up his captain/chaplain in close combat. Then, destroy them. take out his tacts with your tacts termies can eat sweet sniper justice. Devastators, if re-outfitted with 2 lascannons/2plasma cannons/2 multimelta, then the 2 missile launchers, can blast his bikes and speeders off the board, and from there you can clean the rest of the board up. Just my thoughts, and I would much rather hear someone with more experience clear my ideas out.

I might decide to take Kor'Sarro Khan instead, make my Sternguard outflank any units he has sitting at a board edge. 5 Strength 5 attacks, about 3-4 of them will hit against his captain, and then all 6's to wound kill automatically... Also T5, which is a bonus.

Presenting...something fun! (I hope) 500 point guard! HQ: Command squad. Regimental standard, heavy flamer, carapace, lascannon. 125 pts. Lord Commissar. carapace. 80 pts.
Troops: Platoon command. Vox, heavy flamer, grenade launcher, 65 pts. Infantry squad. flamer. 55 pts. Infantry squad. flamer. 55 pts. Infantry squad. flamer, Vox. 60 pts
Chimera (proxied by rhino)(Looted?): two heavy flamers, storm bolter. 65 pts.
TOTAL: 500 points
How's it sound? mind you, I got it for basically dirt. I do not own the codex, so some units may be wrong. It was a side to my main order of a 22 dollar Dread with 2 30$ figure cases..... But thats not the point! how is this going to play? I mainly wanted to sue it as a Practice for painting/for fun army. Mainly because catachan hate commissars... all my guardsmen except the command squad and commissar are catachans.. razz EDIT: forgot to mention. I will have these at my converting disposal: meltagun, 2 boltguns, 4 bolt pistols, a few plasma pistols, a plasmagun, and..whaddya know, another flamer.

I like the theme, though it is very compact and fragile.

Yeah. It is, although it does turn out results, due to having such a small force (Mainly down to the massive cost of Grey Knights next to most armies troop choices. I had to learn to make more strategically strikes and take much less risks, and make the huge use of my Shrouding and True Grit. Although this army sometimes comes up against a brick wall, such as the Nightbringer, with his massive Toughness and my huge lack of weapons that can do real damage to him. The army basically needs a decent amount of scenery too, I use Line of Sight a lot with this army (Sometimes forcing a tight V with the Land Raiders, enough to show though the gap, but not enough to be charged though. Which is quite fun!)

I can see how horde armies or even a simple army loaded with meltas can easily disable such a small force. Plus only three squads can capture objectives, which is a massive hamper on things in some scenarios.

Horde Armies isn’t even that bad, given that each Squad is just hidden within the Land Raiders for the majority of them fights, just Ramming into the horde, Grey Knights pop out, and of course the Flames usually rip apart Horde Armies. So it's not as bad as you may think, try running it in Vassal and see how you do with it.

Me and Vassal don't get along. I'm not trying to sound rude but I've heard that talk all before. Especially in the comic store I frequent when they find out I play Guard. gonk

Lt. Brookman Me and Vassal don't get along. I'm not trying to sound rude but I've heard that talk all before. Especially in the comic store I frequent when they find out I play Guard. gonk Hehe, Guard didn't use to be that bad, however with their new Codex update, I usually end up loosening to them, however it's not due to the troops, they usually go. Especially if I play the list where I put in the Crusader rather than the bog standard Land Raiders. But yeah, Guard usually beat me quite hard (Sometimes, of course depends on the dice) things like Nids and Orkz usually burn in righteous fire!
