xxEternallyBluexx Captain_Shinzo xxEternallyBluexx Captain_Shinzo xxEternallyBluexx Well yeah, it takes a complex idea like religion and simplifies it into color t make it somewhat funny and make a clear point. The most effective point it makes is that one belief is right, I think. But still, the most evidence I've read is for Christianity, and I'm more sure of it then anything else. Besides I'm still not sure what point is being made, or what I'm supposed to do about that. Are you trying to tell me to quit debating until I have absolute evidence or what...? No, I think people are just asking you the question of what other evidence, besides the Bible since you agreed it had no evidence, do you hav of homosexuality being wrong?
While you answer that, I think people also want to know why other religions are wrong considering you mostly only know Christianity? I mean, would you be Islamic or Atheist if you learned more about the such?*avoiding the subject* Nope. Islam I know about, and I find it a lot more unlikely then Christianity, and atheism is pretty simple, and after reading Mere Christianity I've found a few good reasons for not believing it. That books another reason-it gives a good overview of why Christianity is right, while starting from an atheist viewpoint and hitting different beliefs. Avoiding the topic is how things get solved. confused
Yes, but have you studied everything? I mean, you can't just tell me you know dictionary terms, have you ponderd the possibility without a God and if our universe could live without one or another religion that could mean more to you than Christianity? The problem is, there is more than 1,000 religions. Which one beyond anything is correct? No, it's what I do when I'm not sure about something. No, but I'm trying. Look, when I looked at atheism closely I came to the conclusion I'd rather be anything but. I couldn't stand the thought we live in an empty universe. As for those other religions, when I come across them I consider them, and usually I find the universe can't work that way, or they're a lot plausible then Christianity. Have I studied them all? No. But did you before becoming an atheist? Do you consider them as closely as you're asking me to? I'm not sure how you could be confused.
I studied some religions but I didn't NEED to study before becoming an Atheist. Atheism is without a deity, so why study other deities? Besides, I wont waste my time studying 1,000 deities when I don't think I could believe in the existence of one. But the problem I find here is you deny Atheism because you don't like the idea. I mean, I'm fine with you doing that. The only problem is that it seems a little ignorant to ignore what could be possible but that the truth is too hurtful.

Captain_Shinzo In Medias Res IV Captain_Shinzo gohst13 To the person who asked me to show the quote look up Leviticus 18 unlawful sexual relations It's aginsed insest and gay/lesbian relationships. I think he asked to SHOW and not look up. Besides, I already saw the unclean comment you posted and it didn't really prove your point or prove why homosexuals couldn't marry.Leviticus also only applies to JEWS. That's the third time she pulled this again. XDHonestly, I think she's hopeless.

I don't really do that with Christianity, but I still have control over what I believe. If I was brought up as an atheist, I'd probably fall into a pagan belief for the fun of it, but I couldn't see being unable to believe in a deity, especially when there's no direct evidence against Him.

xxEternallyBluexx divineseraph xxEternallyBluexx divineseraph xxEternallyBluexx divineseraph But what you are arguing is "If it's not my way, it's no way", which is incorrect. I never said fascism was truly bad, although I agree- in a mortal world, it is. But one being literally controlling everything is still wrong. That's why we have free will. No, I'm arguing for what I know. Who argues for what they don't know? Besides it's not 'my way', it's God's. How is it wrong? Why do you get to deem it so? And He gave us free will. It's a gift. (Anyway this is off topic so...) And Zakku, where are you getting the Bible's been changed? It hasn't. But you're denying every possibility that you DON'T know. Which is illogical. And no, it's not. It's your way of knowing God. That is not necessarily God. For example, it was believed that piles of hay generated mice because mice came from the hay. (look it up.) That's not the way of hay, that's the way of that understanding, which is, of course, not necessarily correct. A gift we can't use? Some gift. Yes I am, because when I had a completely open mind it drove me nuts. I do pay attention and make note about what I find out about other religions, but I also choose what I believe and argue for that because 1) I really think it's true (I try not to debate about things I'm not relatively sure of), and 2) it's what I know about. If everyone refused to debate unless they had a complete knowledge of every religion though, I think there'd be very few people discussing religion. And I knew that. And watch this: http://www.youtube.com/user/onetimeblind?blend=3&ob=1#p/a/u/2/D2Flgdwlqz0 Only one way IS right, so you have to use the evidence you have to try and see what way that is. We all use it, but he gives us a lot of other gifts too. Beauty, intelligence, strength...etc. And I really think it's true that God doesn't care what gender we prefer. Don't tell me about your book and your revelation, I've had my own. So now it's between our Gods. But my God is your God, and is all Gods. So really what we have here is perspective. Which brings me back to the original point- You can't say "It's either my belief or there is nothing" because I am presenting an alternative belief which is also not nothing. You're essentially saying "There is only one shape. If it's not a triangle, it's nothing." I'm saying circle, which is also a shape. The video shows a fallacy, because truth isn't so simple. Look up American military history and you will begin to see why. That wasn't my point. Why give us free will if we can't even choose who to love? It's like giving us an airplane and saying "Yeah, here ya go- Flight! Just don't take it off the ground." And is that what you think I'm saying? No, I've ruled other beliefs out because of certain flaws, but I know it's not God or nothing. There's other options, but unless the Christian God isn't real I won't accept them as options. It's EITHER a circle or a triangle, but not both. I get what you mean, but I don't think religion is like that. I think if there is a God He's want us to really know Him instead of giving us a bunch of conflicting ideas-instead some of those conflicting ideas are twisted truths or even not of God at all. I'm still not sure about homosexuality, so I'm not gonna answer that. I never said it wasn't God or nothing. I said it was your CONCEPTION of God or nothing. Then maybe it's a triangle. You're denying triangle because you only know of circle. I agree, it's a shape. But just because you only know of circle doesn't mean that it can't be triangle or rhombus. Let's look at it as a logic problem. A or B or C equals Z. You're saying "It is not A. Therefore it's not Z."- You're completely ignoring the other possibilities, and that is not logically valid. What do you mean, conflicting ideas? That's called perception, that's how the world works. Our "freedom campaign" here is their "terrorism". Their "disestablishment of an imperial monster" is our "terrorism". Our "establishment of democracy" is their "establishment of dictatorship"- Look it up. Objectively speaking, there is one truth, obviously. But how that truth is seen and felt is different depending on who is on the receiving end. That was the point. You can't answer it because it's a flaw in your logic of God- What's the point of free will if we can't even love who we want to? Why would god give us something we can't use?

Well, I mean, by my definition you can't choose to be an Atheist. Atheism is...well...belief in deity. It's what you are when you say "Well, these religions don't make sense." Although, it is a choice if you don't study enough of scientific facts and theories to possibly believe it or you could also deny the possibility of no deity. There is actually a lot of evidence of God, however. Plenty, even. But that's not this topic.

The bible very consistently stresses the importance of works but it doesn't even mention having a personal relationship with God, that's a modern interpolation. What the bible does say is that what you do for someone in need you are doing for Christ, you turn someone in need away and you are turning Christ away. Matt. 25:43-46 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

I thought I was the triangle? Anyway I see what you're saying, but that sounds like you're pointing I could be wrong. Of course I could be, but anyone could be. How often does that fact have to be acknowledged? No, I'm saying it's if it's B, it's none of the other letters. Like if atheism wasn't correct, that wouldn't automatically rule out Islam, and if they were both incorrect they wouldn't automatically rule out Hinduism. The only way one religion would rule out another is if they shared core beliefs, like Judiasm being completely incorrect would rule out Christianity. Not obviously. If you look at what's at the core of every belief, they're aren't all the same. Christianity is based around God, atheism is a non-belief of God, other beliefs have a 'save yourself' through your works type of thing going...I don't see how you can look at all beliefs and say they're all the same. Some of them aren't remotely similar to another, and I think even when you soften the edges of beliefs into watery generalizations, they still aren't the same. No I can't answer that because I said I was gonna leave homosexuality alone until I was sure about it again. But let's see...I think He gave it because He wanted us to choose to love Him first, and also because He knows best. People can fall and do fall out of love, and some people are left empty by that. If you're with whoever He puts you with though, then you're much more likely to end up happy. Anyway free will just means we have a choice, that's the gift. That doesn't mean there won't be consequences, or that there isn't a right choice.

The only problem is that it seems a little ignorant to ignore what could be possible but that the truth is too hurtful.Confused as to whether homosexuality was wrong or not? Easily. I thought it was, rmcdra posted something that made me think I might be wrong, so now I don't want to post about that topic until I'm sure again. Because of the possibility of Hell. And if I'm sure I know the true God, why do I have to put effort forth into finding a different one? Even the possibility drives me nuts. I won't accept it, and if I did try to believe that, it'd have too much of a negative impact on my life to make it worth it. What is the point in not believing in a deity anyway? Alright, that is understandable.
I'm pretty sure God cares more of the good effort you do than the belief in him.
Well, again, pushing aside the possibility. But the point? What do you mean the point? I mean, Atheism isn't exactly a choice. It's what you are when deities don't seem possible. You can't ask me the point in being an Atheist if it is more of being one than accepting the belief.Well that's not what Christianity asserts, and from what I've read, I don't think so. I think us to have a He wants a relationship with Him more then He wants good works. You don't choose to believe it? O_o I mean, as much of a negative impact as it would have on my mental health, I could choose to be an atheist or force myself to believe whatever else I had too. I don't really do that with Christianity, but I still have control over what I believe. If I was brought up as an atheist, I'd probably fall into a pagan belief for the fun of it, but I couldn't see being unable to believe in a deity, especially when there's no direct evidence against Him. Huh...Christianity doesn't sound that appealing anymore now.
It appealed to you before? Huh, now you have me feeling like I should play devil's advocate with that last comment... O_o

If I was brought up as an atheist, I'd probably fall into a pagan belief for the fun of it, but I couldn't see being unable to believe in a deity, especially when there's no direct evidence against Him. The bible very consistently stresses the importance of works but it doesn't even mention having a personal relationship with God, that's a modern interpolation. What the bible does say is that what you do for someone in need you are doing for Christ, you turn someone in need away and you are turning Christ away. Matt. 25:43-46 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”I'm not sure; I think there's evidence for it: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are THE SONS OF GOD, For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, ABBA, FATHER" (Romans 8:14-15). "I am a God that is close at hand ... and not a God far off ... Do I not fill heaven and earth?" (Jeremiah 23:23-24). "You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants (slaves); for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you FRIENDS; for all things that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you. You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you." "For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For the body is not one member, but many ... And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you; nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you ... the members should have the same care one for another ... Now you are the BODY OF CHRIST, and members in particular" (1Corinthians 12:12-27). Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
