Lin paused and nodded at that question, "He traveled here to set up the portal. The mage twins, Yukito and Yue need to know what the area looks like otherwise when they cast out a portal you could end up anywhere."
She had heard Triton went with Adonai's family and Cindy.

Amora pursed her lips thoughtfully, trying to remember back to her early childhood.
"I ... believe I've met him," she said softly. "He ... has ... animal body parts, does he not? Ears and a tail? I ... am afraid I cannot quite ... remember what kind ..."
She had been young, and that had been quite a while ago.

"Yes, he does, they're cat ears and tail."
When Lin thought about it, it wasn't so surprising since Triton had mentioned Amora, but Amora was really little and it had been only her and the baby Pen when Triton visited.
"It was a really long time, when Triton told me of how your mother and father were doing, it was only you and Pen. Not that Pen would remember, he was a baby according to Triton."

Amora smiled. "That was indeed a long time ago," she murmured, "I can't even remember Pengolodh as an infant." She paused, then added, "But don't let him hear you call him Pen, he hates pet names. He insists on being called by his full name."
He always said it made him sound like a child - never mind the fact that he was indeed a child.

Lin raised a brow now she certainly didn't know that. She figured at the very least his parents might have called him Pen at one point or another (which might be why he didn't like it).
"Does he? Truth is calling him Pen is from back when your father introduced himself as Pengolodh. Not many people knew his real name back then."
Except for Lothoriel she was sure... and Miyu, who knew because of Aragost.

Amora nodded. "I know Father once made a game of hiding his name," she murmured, "but I also know that since becoming king, he has not done that. Of course, it would be foolish of him to do so. Still, Father was the one who was odd ... I know most elves, at least most adults, do not like being called by pet names."
Suddenly, a door in one corner of the room opened, and a tall, bulky elf stepped out. He had short black hair and dark skin, and his muscles were toned from years of working a forge. Still, he had a kind look in his eye, though when he spoke his voice was a bit gruff.
"Good morning," he greeted the girls with a bow. "Welcome to my shop."

Lin had never thought about it that way, but then again her name was too short to shorten anymore unless it was lengthen like the way Adandhel would add 'chan'.
Technically that was kind of a pet name.
She was brought out of her thoughts when they were greeted by the shopkeeper. Lin smiled and bowed in return.
"Thank you, it is good to meet you."

The man smiled warmly at the two. "Is there anything that I can help you with, ladies?" he asked in his gruff tone. "Please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask."
Amora nodded her head at the man, then turned to Lin. "If you have questions," she murmured softly, "here is your chance."

She blinked a few times, to be honest she didn't know anything about swords besides how to use one. Granted it was only one fighting style out of many that existed, but that's all she knew. She didn't know enough to know what to ask, or maybe it was because she never thought really hard on the subject.
For once she couldn't think of anything.
"Not any that I can think of, I think for once I don't have any," Lin replied softly, "I was just looking at the weapons on the wall they're... interesting."

The man smiled at her. "Look all you like," he invited her. "There's no rush. It's too hot to be working today, even as far belowground as the forge is, so I've got all the time you need."
Amora nodded at Lin. "Normally his son would help him out with the shop," she explained, "but he's away on travel, I believe."

"Oh...." Lin murmured, "I see... is it hard to work and look after the shop by yourself?"
It made her wonder how he managed without his son there. With the forge down below, was there even a way to know if there was someone in the shop.
Her eyes drifted back to a particularly curved sword which reminded her of a scythe, or it was one for all she knew. She knew they could be used as weapons as much as they could be used for harvesting grain. She tore her eyes away from it to look back at the blacksmith.

Balthier folded his massive arms over his chest and nodded at Lin, still smiling. "Aye, it can be," he told her. "Being so far underground when I'm working and all, and it's kind of hard to be in two different places at the same time ..."
He chuckled softly and flicked at some dust on his arm. "Still, it's good to take a few days off now and then. Hot desert and hotter work ... you don't take a break, it'll kill you."

When Lin thought about it, it made sense, the forge was already insanely hot and then to be stuck in a hot desert hotter than even the Southland would be worse. She had seen the effects of heatstroke.
Overheated indeed.
"How do you manage it? To work in a place so hot, or is it something one gets use to after a while?"
She couldn't remember it well, from the only time she managed to follow Ruel all the way, and even though she wasn't anywhere near the door anyone could feel the heat coming off the area the moment he opened the door and shut it again behind him.

Balthier shrugged one massive shoulder. "Underground is much cooler than aboveground," he told her, "and with a good ventilation system the air stays clear and breathable. I suppose most people still wouldn't be able to stand it, but I've always liked the heat."
He looked over at the wall of weapons that Lin had been admiring, and his affection for his work was evident in his eyes.

Lin supposed it was like the way Yue and Miyu liked the freezing cold, it was just their element so to speak. She added mentally seeing the look that Balthier gave his weapons, that Balthier was also one of those people who really, really liked what he did.
"Is there anything in particular you like to make?"
