Seeing the attack from the corner of his eye, Marco began to duck, but quickly realized that would leave Joe exposed. He settled for throwing an FB up into the attack, intercepting it but not allowing him to counterattack. He needed someone to cover him.
Joe would be perfect for it, but...

((We posted and counter-posted, sorry though.

I'm depressed because of a girl who was theoretically my friend, and wanted to be, but wasn't capable of it maturity-wise. Plus our families do a lot of stuff together, so it oughtta be sufficiently awkward. It'll be okay, though, I'm getting better.))

Darius was in a perfect position to cover, and threw a chunk of himself that subsequently detonated right off of Samuel's shield, rather powerfully too. He was growing smaller, but it would be hard to spot.

((Devath speaks truth.

Plus, it'd take days to enchant the variety you'd need for a good thaumaturgy battlemage. Add that to the problem of multiple spells of the same type....))
PostPosted: Sun Feb 15, 2009 11:55 am

((Very true. Although in this case, that's not entirely unrealistic - actually, it's pretty plausible. We had a week in advance to prepare, so what a good thaum would do is just set up a shitton or two of good combat and support spells.
Just saying. Marco might or might not have prepared some nifty stuff for the assault.))

((I'd like to defend Fyrin not going to watch TV by saying that he's been alive for 700 freaking years. He has got to have the patience for that.

I don't have anything to post here beyond that though.))

((Yeah, I gotcha there. Other thing is that a thaum that uses offensive spells would not, for any reason at all, use their spells slowly and one at a time. Honestly, a powerful thaum that intends to use spells for combat isn't going to even be throwing the same type of spells as an evoker of the same spell class. They will be using lots of heavy damage and AoE spells, not hails of low-damage fireballs. All at once. The problem with thaums is that if they are employed properly in battle and the opponents don't have enough thaums to counter the offensive, it is an immensely one-sided battle. That much firepower all at once is ridiculous. Its like charging all of your weapons to max firepower before the battle and alpha striking on first contact. This is also why any organization composed primarily of evokers would do everything in its power to evade being backed into a single-entry fortified position, since their strength is in flexibility. razz ))

Samuel rushed in at Marco, flinching at Darius' attack, but trusting Gertrude to cover him against future blows. As he rushed, he started throwing volleys of fireballs at Marco.

((Yays for injured people. Perfect capture targets.))

((Haha, sounds like what I was thinking.))

Marco skipped back and threw two FBs at the charging Sam, then aimed one at the floor just in front of his shield. Hopefully, it would slow him down.
If it didn't, Marco always had other spells. Problem was, he didn't really have time to set up right now...
Oh well. If Sam was slowed by the floor exploding, then Marco would grab Joe and fly him to safety. Hopefully Paul was still covering them.

((Hes not. razz ))

((Keep in mind, most thaumaturges (that is, those who aren't Linda/Arturo) can do a little evocation. It'll just be weaker, much less efficient, and basically at a much lower level all around. It's like comparing a tactical artillery strike with a guy in a jeep with an assault rifle.))

Gertrude grunted as she took the explosion full on, planting her feet in preparation.

((Capturing Joe would be like capturing a magazine powder.))

Darius rolled for her, intending to bulldoze her.

Paul repositioned to move Joe if necessary.

Fyrin was moving for Joe too, his, mana restoring and his shield staying constant. It was already set up, so...

((What the hell is magazine powder?))
PostPosted: Mon Feb 16, 2009 8:02 pm

((See, this is part of what I meant by "meta". Fyrin I can understand, you were keeping him in the back directing things. Constant perception checks. Paul was engaged with Takeshi, and had moved away from that area of conflict, thus losing the necessary LoS to respond.

Generally, for smooth RP, perception checks should be made at the end of a character clash, for example, when both parties are forced back from each other, or some such. It depends on the mental state of the character where this is. Some characters won't reach this until the opponent is pulverized...

BTW, Venom, why did you break off RPing Takeshi when he was putting pressure on a PC? Pressure is good, prevents stored cards moving all at once. ))

((Just as a note, holding all your cards in reserve is a really good way to make people mad at you.))

((Magazine powder... I assume it is probably something explosive and inert, so no, capturing Joe is not like capturing magazine powder. It's more like capturing napalm that's on fire. Countermeasures must be taken to handle him safely. The stuff that is currently in his blood is one of those.))

((Yeah, the extra evocation ability is always a plus, they just have to roleplay it as evocation magic, not as something they took out of their storage devicey thingies.))

((By the way, what happened to Marco and the volleys of fireballs Sam launched at him? Did he just take them head-on?))

Samuel grinned maniacally at Marco's pitiful attempts to slow him down, tossing fireballs at the force bullets aimed at his body. He closed the last of the distance between them and swung in an upward diagonal at Marco's shoulder, just skimming over the prone Joe's chest with the tip of the blade.

((Takeshi isn't good enough to direct his zombies a lot and do much other stuff simultaneously.))

Two zombies attempted to attack Joe when Takeshi realized Joe's vulnerability.

((Wait wait wait, hold up. I had Marco hit the fireballs out of the air with FBs, but how did Sam avoid the exploding floor? You didn't mention it at all.))

((Exploding?

Your force bolts don't do that much, man. The floor is THICK METAL. You can't get much more than some deep cracking/denting off a force bolt here.))
