That was a thought that had plagued Ulrich and Ulani for a long time, and the truth was ...

"We don't know," Ulrich shrugged. "Neither Ulani nor I met King Gunnar, but we've been told he was ... the kindest elf ever born. Which, in theory, would mean that he should be reborn after only a short period of death. But even if he has been reborn, he might not have regained his memories yet, and even if he did ..."

But Ulrich had been told that the king's love for his wife had been so profound, they had been the model after which the rest of the nation's people had aspired. Surely he would upon receiving his memories from his previous life make his way to where the one he loved so dearly was waiting, pining for him ...

"Then again, perhaps he is there already," he shrugged again. "We have no way of knowing."

He and Ulani were forbidden to return, after all.

Lore hoped it was, he had laways hoped that hte stories he had earld about the afterlife were true, even though he couldn't say iether way if they were true or not.

"It's always possible, it's nice to hope," Lore murmured, as long as it was within limits as he had learnt.

"Since that's all we can do, yes," Ulrich nodded. "There are times when I'm tempted to send Fireball with a letter ... but I don't know if he would be allowed to return then, or if he was if he would be allowed to bring a reply."

Even having lived there for a few centuries, he didn't know exactly how everything was done. But living there, he hadn't cared, either.

"Fireball?" Lore blinked.

He wondered if it was a person or a bird, which he could only think of birds being used, though some people used dogs, but that was only for short distances.

"Phoenix who's been with us since ... I think it's been seven or eight rebirths now," Ulrich mused thoughtfully, rubbing the back of his neck. "Since I was ten, anyways. A long time. He's been our messenger for all of his lives since then, and he was messenger for Queen Alyse before then."

Interesting, how that had turned out.

"I wonder at times if he's the only phoenix in existence," he commented with a shrug. "Legend has it there's only one at a time ... but that would mean there would only be one ... ever."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 7:54 pm

"Hmm.... I've heard something like that, but I don't know if tha'ts true... back home..."

Not to mention a society had their own ideas of what a phoneix looked like and so forth. Then again if you keep being reborn, it wasn't like you had to worry about the extiention of one's race.

"Then again there might be others and they're just hiding which would be the smart thing to do around people."

Ulrich didn't know what to say to that - it was true, it was safer for most creatures to avoid people altogether.

"Perhaps I'll have to ask him someday," he shrugged. "After all, who knows where he's been, what he's seen? I'm sure if there are other phoenixes in this world, he would know."

He paused for a moment, then added, "Besides, it's also quite possible that they're living on another continent. It may be the biggest, but the Four Lands is far from being the only one in Arda."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:11 pm

"There has been no one who's been to one of the other continents?" Lore was suprised at that.

Well, at least considering Gaia was a society of exploration, but what if there were other races on those continents. Who knew what laid beyond this land.

"Yes," Ulrich nodded. "Ulani and I have ... as have many others. We were the only ones to return. As to the other continents, one of them is where Serenity was born - now, to my understanding, it is overrun by demons who are killing not only anyone who might be unlucky enough to still live there, but themselves and the land as well."

He paused thoughtfully. "There are rumours of what might be on the other continents," he murmured, "but as I have no inclination to travel as long as I have my wife, I can only rely on others to find out whether or not they are true."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:41 pm

"Hmmm.... I see..." though Lore thought it was odd, perhaps the demons were unnatural, but being one person who saw ahead in the future (blame all the history reading).

He wondered, how long it would be, before ships that could travel would be built.. .and people started coming. He just hoped that cultural misunderstandings, if there were other people, would be kept at a minimum.

"Well... who knows what will appear in the future."

Ulrich glanced over at Lore, and his expression was curious.

"Is this your first time to Arda?" he asked him curiously. "Or have you been able to meet Serenity's father yet? Elnara's grandfather?"
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:53 pm

Lore shook his head, "No, this is my first trip, and well.... I do think.. they live in the city don't they?"

He could recall there were some talks about her grandparents a bit.

"I don't think Elnara is ready to go there yet."

Though he knew they would have to go evneually.

Ulrich nodded slowly, then shrugged. "If you can convince her to come here, you'll be able to convince her to visit the city, I'm sure," he assured Lore. "From what I was told, I was positive she would never step foot in Arda again."

Then he nodded seriously and added, "If you get the chance, you should speak with her grandfather. Rigel used to be a shipwright, learned from Ossë himself ... he's the only one I can think of that might have done a fair bit of traveling between the continents."

He winked, grinning mischievously. "Not to mention I'm sure he would be delighted to meet the man brave enough to court his granddaughter."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 9:25 pm

Lore flushed in embarassment and coughed a bit, "Well, I'm sure she would want to visit sooner or later, for Celebor's education I mean."

He didn't think there was anything brave about the courting, it just happened, and by accident to be honest. Niether of them had expected.

Ulrich was surprised. "She's going to have him trained here?" he asked, torn between curiosity and shock. He had a funny look on his face, as if he were being asked to drink something that looked gross.
