A fifteen year-old boy who plays flute. I need to work on my high notes...
PostPosted: Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:39 pm

My flute is so nice, I love my flute. It was my mom's when she was a kid. She like saved up for it and bought it herself with her own money (she bought it for 300 in montana. The flute I have would like cost over 1000 here today though.) Then my cousin amber used it, and now I play it. All of the silver cover things for the corks fell off (those where all my cousins fault blaugh ) but I can still take the corks out and stuff. I have been wanting to look at piccolos and other flutes though. Whats an alto flute like anyway?

Awww that is so cute! A flute passed down. ^___^ You should really try the piccolo. It's awesome! But once you play it, you're probably gonna wanna play that instead of a flute because it's just so much fun. After awhile it feels like you're playing a tuba as to the trumpet sweatdrop Blehhh. But go for the piccolo!! It's fun =]

That's so cool that she passed down her flute! My friend told me that since she's not planning on playing her flute after high school, she wants to save it and pass it down to her daughter. She was like, "I hope she turns out to be as good as you!" XD I'll probably get a new flute once I start college, but I'll save the one I have now and let my kid use it - if indeed they WANT to play the flute. ^^

I totally agree about the piccolo being better than the flute. I wish I had one. Last time I played it, I loved it so much. The thing is I'm not sure whether to save up for a new flute (I've been borrowing one for more than a year because mine only plays one note), or a piccolo. If I do get a piccolo, I will need a flute, because I'd have to have both. This sure is a dilly of a pickle!

Hullo, due to lack of school enthusiasm and low input from the middle school, I'm the only Flautist in my band at the moment. Even though I'm marching Picc right now. I just checked out an Open-Holed to practice my song for Solo and Ensemble this year.

I'd rather be the only one in the band than one out of twenty, like I am now. Gah. -_-;; And nine of them are in my class. (Except right now, I'm on tenor... there's only two of us! ^^) I hate it. Lots of little sophomore kids. x_x

hey i'm sophomore and we only have about 3 that are not sophomores in our flute section. the juniors (5) went to the higher band with a few sophomores. sophomores rule my flute section. YAY!!!!!! biggrin

Sophomores ruled the flute section of the upper band last year, when I was one (three sophomores, two juniors). In fact, I think we ruled the entire upper band... but that's beside the point. I have no problem with sophomores when they know what they're doing... but the majority of them this year don't, and that's when we run into problems (aka me wanting to rip hair out of my head because they suck). I've been unofficial section leader since last year (the only class we have official section leaders in is jazz band) and I've never been more frustrated.

so is anyone on because i am bored and i need to talk. My band has to play in the Mississippi Conductors Conference on feb.12 and our band director just added another peice of music to our six. the new piece is "Carnival Of Venice" which isn't hard to play cuz we played it last year but he hasn't finished arranging it yet. the other ones we are playing are Clowns, Trapelo Overture, Sarabande and Polka, Consuelo Ciscar, Let Us Break Bread Together, and Hungarian Dance #5.

hhm i guess you sorta would need both. since the piccolo cant go as low as the regular flute...it would sound a little weird playing so high on a song that was meant to be low. Hehehe good luck on your flute/piccolo expedition! XD

Tru 3nodding I agree.

C Flute is the most important of all flute family. There's a piccolo, octave higher than C, there's D picc, E flute, G flute(the alto flute), Bass flute (octave lower than regular C), Contrabass flute, and Subcontrabass flute. Great flutes. I luv them all the same. I luv c the most cuz it's the one everyone use. U can't be a piccoloist and not play flute cuz it is a requirement for a piccoloist to be able to play both instruments even though u will not need it in the orchestra most of the time.

Any how it's not useless. Cuz C being the most basic, if u can't play it, u r just telling other people u r useless when u have 2 play flute.

And Tara~Puget27, Alto fingerings are the same, except it's a fifth lower than flute. If u finger a D on alto, it'll come out as an A. biggrin

Yeah I thought it was cool that the flute I'm using now was passed down. It's still in great condition though smile I just got everything rechecked over and stuff causethe end peice (or whatever it's called, I'm really bad with names) kept comming out. I remember I was playing at a BBQ and it just fell off! Hehe that was kinda embarassing. It doesn't do that anymore thankfully smile
