Steven: As you wait, you hear two mages talking.
"Why's this place so broken?" asks a female gnome wearing large, flowing robes.
"It's all the other mages, mostly," explains a male gnome, similarly dressed. They both wear the same crest on their robes as well, a gnomish family crest, you recognize. "They practice on anything they can get their hands on. Even if somebody would fix this place up, they'd have to come back in another day to fix it again. In the human mages quarters they have a person who does this stuff, but the king always did favor them. Strange thing about his daughter."
"what about her?" the female gnome asks
"well, his daughter is a sorceror, that means she has to have dragon's blood. You'd think the king would be a little bit nicer to us since his daughter's not completely human either."
"word on the street is that she's gone," says another mage chucking magic missles at another mage who deflects them with a magical shield, "kidnapped by Itremor, from what I hear."
"You're daft!" shouts the male mage, seemingly a native of this village, "Itremor was an ally of Random Hamlet. Why would he ever want to kidnap the princess?
...this should get things moving...
