The gator pit opened up in front of her all too soon. She could just scantly spy Marina going through to the 'Beaver Balance.' This had been done once, the gators shown their place, and there -- someone had gone right ahead! She felt her anxieties quelled, possibly for good, concerning these dinosaurs. Purple paws held on tightly as before, though now she gave a hearty yell on the way across, finding delight in the epic maneuver that was swinging over a pit full of gators.

Marina smiled as Lirin made it passed the gators. She knew she could make through the behavior pit to, even though she struggled last time. " Don't let the birds scare you ok Lirin" she shouted out too her. She gave her a big ol wink.

It was down to the final obstacle, the deceitful ball-pit-log-roll-gull-gun-run. Hopefully the numbers in her head would line up to reality. Lirina could hear her teammate calling out encouragements, tucking them away along with her ears as she prepared to scramble across. Harsh green eyes slitted in determination. Staring forward towards success!
This time she did collapse, dignity not enough to keep her upright. Elation mixed with the exhaustion, taking the edge off of the discomfort.

" You did it Lirina" She smiled! " I knew you could , its funny how you get hung up on the oddest of opticals" she held her paw out for a high five.

"Thanks for... the support," she puffed out, working beyond the capacity of simply breathing. She got her paw up to complete the high-five at great effort, though. It was worth it. She pondered Marina's last statement, bemused that the odds chose ironically to go against her. "I'm just lucky that way, I suppose," she said, giggling. "How have you faired?"

Visiting for awhile allowed Lirina a moment of mental quiet. Just as her body needed time to circulate oxygen and comfort aching muscles, her mind had called for a cooldown period. There had been an air of continuous urgency throughout and between the runs, likely from some remaining anxieties. The happenstance meeting -- the slipping on of the pleasant mask -- allowed for a much needed reset.
Or perhaps she should have remained passed out on the ground, for now she considered a third attempt. The lure of challenge, conquest... yet the odds grew worse with each attempt.
When Lirina felt the familiar, overtrodden land of the first obstacle, she knew the decision. Through the mud again! She kept a look out for snags and muck pits, above all keeping her head down. Close to the end, she could swear she heard the distinct sound of a cow being launched in a catapult. Luckily, she was able to scuttle to safety before it landed!

Cocking a calculating eye towards the cliff face, her mind acknowledging that it was more likely that luck had run out. By no means necessary, one couldn't deny that a little good fortune could turn the tides in a pinch. Beginning her ascent, she kept close vigil.
Oh, odds could be fickle creatures! Lirina despised running the same scenarios over again, yet this course was shaping up to be an exception that proved the rule. Not because of her victories, necessarily, but because each run was rather unique, even with the same outcome. The cliff had her respect, for now.

Starting at a run from the cliff's edge, the dragon-printed audio barreled towards the pond. She knew now that there was little strategy to be had in this location -- simply momentum, grip, and the chance that the gators' timing was off. There was no hesitation this time. The rope slid familiarly into her paws as the ground let out from under her.
SNAP, SNAP, WOOOSH~
The rope delivered its party safely to the other side, past the snapping jaws in the water. She momentarily wondered if this could qualify for her Pitfall! Harry Explorer Club badge.

Damn those happy, mulitcolored plastic balls. They were an obvious -- visually loud -- sign that the seagull launcher was imminent. These numbers were especially erratic, taxing her mind to odd variables that should never have to come up. Even fantasy novels had a better grip on reality than this place! Lirina leapt onto the hollow log, its echo like a starting gun.
Curiously, the closer she came to the other end of the log, the more her tactics were superimposed onto romantic models. The more she sought to concentrate on numbers, the more vivid they became: the legend of Huma, the defeat of Guan Yu by Lu Meng, the version of Journey to the West where Sanzo didn't cry so often. One of those moments where everything synchs up. Possibly some odd 'trip' created by a combination zooming seagulls and rainbow; possibly not. And then it was over.
The touchdown came with a thud -- it was graceless, but not clumsy -- snapping Lirina away from her mindset. Glancing back, she couldn't help eying it oddly. Then there was only sweet victory. FLAWLESS VICTORY.

Lex bolted down the line. Slipping on a melting snowball, Lex fell against the wire. It peeled itself off the barbs gritting its teeth. Great, now the back of its shirt was missing a hunk and looked like swiss cheese. Only one more shot after this....

Lex heaved a satisfied sigh. It could climb the cliff all day... Except for the mines. It hated the mines. Speaking of which, another camper blew back about six feet. Lex tore up the side of the cliff.

There was one gator that Lex recognized. It wore the torn bit of its shirt like a sick trophy on its head. Refusing to break eye contact, it grabbed the rope and swung. It touched down on the other bank, and headed out to the Beaver Balance.

Lex tropped across the log. Ever wary of the beavers hiding in the shockingly colorful balls, Lex kept glancing from side to side. Despite having to duck occasionally due to the odd seagull, it made it to the other side. Really, it was feeling ever so cocky- two more shots? No problem!

Luna was back for round three! She was determined this time. After watching all her teammates fly through the course a few times, she became fueled. She actually wanted to do it again! It was no longer looking like a chore she had to do to help her team, but something fun. Not wasting anytime, she threw herself on her hands and knees for the wire crawl.
Ah third times always a charm! She had made it through and managed to dodge the spot where she had got stuck last time. Even better she was covered in mud and it felt cool on such a hot day. Skipping along, she headed towards the cliff.
