Roland nodded. "Yeah there are over twenty of us." He said, "What about you? Do you have a pack or something?"

"Yes. About 13, but more come all the time, and our comm- owner is getting a few more as Christmas gifts. They have yet to be opened." Maximus twitched his ears, thinking of the new arrivals cozied in the baskets.

"My owner has some more on the way too." He said growing serious, "I hope those baskets have ventilation so the wolves don't suffocate." He thought about the ones that were sitting in the room waiting to be opened. "They must be bored and hungry."

Roland laughed. "Maybe. I guess we'll never know." He said shrugging, "So do you have any friends around here?"

Maximus smiled as Roland laughed, beginning to relax again. Or as relaxed as he ever got in a new or strange place. "Most of my pack are my friends. Outside of them... you're the first I've met. How about you."

"Well most of my pack are my friends." He said thinking, "I know a few wolves outside my pack. They're part of the knights." He thumped his tail on the ground as he thought about his first meeting with the knights.

"Knights? Oh, yeah. One of my packmates is a knight, and another is always with them, though not as a knight." Maximus flicked his tail and his smile grew. "I think he said he's a Lord there. So what is your impression of this group of knights? Do they honor their titles?"

Roland nodded. "I have a pack mate who is a knight and another who is a Lady there." He said smiling back, "I'm not quite sure about my impression. Maybe after I hang out and help them I'll know. I do think they honor their titles as best they can here."

Roland nodded. "You should. They were having a party the last time I saw them. Which was recently." He said pausing for a moment, "They're on the second floor in a room called the Sitting Room. The door's open and has a sign on it."

"A party? Good. That means most of the knights should be in one place." He looked at the stairs leading to the second floor and twitched his tail in anticipation. "I believe the second floor was my next stop."

Roland looked at Maximus and shook his head. "I know several of the knights were there." He said, "Well then I believe this is where we part then. I got away from that party just a while ago and have no desire to go back."

Maximus again twitched his tail. But then tilted his head curiously. "Why do you not wish to go back? They were not rude to you were they?"
