Maybe potential combatants could PM each other to challenge and agree officially, and both will PM you (or whoever is running it) with their match. It would then be added to the list.
Just a thought for how it might work...

Wow, they made getting to your guild list really difficult and annoying. This has made me angry, especially since the previous navgiation worked really well.
