Moments passed with no answer, Mike was beginning to worry about his Pokemon.

Suddenly, bubbles started to slow up from the water, not popping, because they were frozen solid. Two icicles shot out of the water with alarming speed and slammed into the surprised Krabby, knocking a large peice off of it's claw.

"That must be Icicle Spear! Shiver learned a new attack!" Mike said, both him and Charmander, who had rushed to Mike's side to see the fight, stood there with their mouths ajar.

Following the icey attack, and looking at his shattered claw in fear, the surprised and scared Krabby attempted to run back into the water, but he was slowed by dragging his injured appendage.

Leaping out of the water and sensing victory is near, Shiver launched three more icicles at the retreating Pokemon, each connecting to it's back.

As the Krabby took a few more steps, eash seeming harder to do, loud cracking sounds could be heard, and Krabby's bright red colors were morphing into a shade of blue. With in seconds the pokemon was frozen solid, just inches before the small cliff that lead into the water.

"Why don't you send him packing Shiver." Mike said, his expression was now that of confidence, as he let a small smirk shine through.

As soon as he was given the green light, the Shellder threw himself at the pokemon popsicle, a loud shattering sound echoed through most of Route 11 as the defeated Krabby flew limply into the water, Shiver was victorious.

Nina smiled. "Hello Kasiya," she said, "did you have a nice sleep?" Looking to the doorway, Nina spotted Misdreavus floating into the room, followed by Marill bouncing on its tail, singing as it often did.

Following the heated conflict, Shiver was taking a much deserved swim in the waters of Vermillion city. Floating calmy in the ocean waves, the aquatic pokemon was feeling quite pleased with himself, for that was a pretty big Krabby.

Although little could compare to the supreme feeling of joy that overcame the aspiring young trainer as he watched his Pokemon go for a victory swim.

Mike's Charmander however, did not find solic in the ocean waves, for being a fire pokemon, the little guy had a natural discomfert to all things moist and wet. But Charmander was at the only place he ever wanted to be, right with Mike.


For as long as Mike could remember, he had Charmander with him. A gift from his father, Charmander was bred to be Mike's bodyguard as a young boy, but mostly of all, he was Mike's friend. The pokemon would follow Mike everywhere, and the two spent every waking hour together. Mike did not have many friends when he was growing up, because of the lack of kids his age in Lavaridge town. As most young boys were, Mike was very shy around girls, he would never be able to look them in the eyes, his gaze always at the floor, like adog that had just disobeyed it's master. Having no siblings to play with, Mike always turned to Charmander for companionship. When he started training, it was only natural that he would take his best friend unto training. Ever since then the two have formed and even stronger bond that should define the meaning of friendship itself.

Plummeting back to planet earth, Mike shook his head and set his mind on the present times. Kneeling down and petting his Charmander, a smile shone on his face.

"C'mon Shiver, time to head off."

His Pokemon at his side, Mike set off onto Route 11, the eatward area to Vermillion City. Walking in the tall grass gave him a feeling of uncertainty, for he was a little nervous of Pokemon attacking his poor friends.

Charmander had a polar oppisite outlook, after watching the battle with Shiver and the Krabby, he was more than eager to be in one himself.

A dark figure appeared on the horizon, since it was hard to make out from that distance, Mike decided that the only way to whet his curiousity was to get a closer look.

Charmander walked a few steps ahead of Mike, clenching his luckey peice of Charcoal.

The figure whipped around, revealing itself as a young boy, no older than ten years.

A sigh of releif overcame Mike as the boy looked at him and started walking over.

"Why yes, I am a trainer too." Mike said with a smile on his face.

"Well then, why don't you and me have a battle? I'm itching for a fight with the new Pokemon I just caught!" the boy cried, nearly tearing his Pokeball out of his belt slot.

Charmander looked at Mike with almost begging intention, obviously wanting to fight.

"Alright." slyly stated Mike, a look of confidence glazing over his face. "Bring it on!"

"Took you long enough! GO EKANS!" shouted the youngster as his Pokebal exploded from his hands, releasing a rather large serpentine Ekans.

Running out to meet his opponent, Charmander's firey tail erupted with excitement, for he too was eager to fight.

Ekans slithered onto the feild, his tounge occasionally peeking out to smell the air.

Charmander darted out with Mike's command, and reared it's paw to stike. His claws shone a silver glow as he charged the snake.

Ekans, rising up to strike, let out a cry and lunged at the fire pokemon.

Jumping over the large set of teeth that the Ekans possessed, Charmander slashed the pokemon with a terrible strike, large gashes appeared in the Pokemons scales.

"Woah! Charmander! You learned a new attack too!? Must be my luckey day!" cheered Mike. He was correct, Charmander had learned Metal Claw, a powerful Steel type move.

Kasiya watched Nina with Marill, suddenly feeling frightened. She didn't know what to say, just sat there, poking her food. "I wonder what it could mean?"

"Pikachu." Pikachu walked over to Nina and Marill, and hugged one of her shoulders. "Chu. Pikachu pika pi," it said, its voice calm and soothing.

Nina smiled a little bit. "Thanks, Pikachu," she said as she scratched behind its head. A moment later she looked to Kasiya and replied, "I'm not sure. They're probably just nightmares, and nothing more."
