Hi. I don't have a special needs child myself but I'd like to be able to support all you guys in any way possible. You moms of these kids who do anything to help make their life "normal" are so special to me. My wonderful husband was once upon a time a special needs kid. He was born at 27 weeks. It is a miricale that he ever even left the hospital. He had/has Broncho Pulmonary Dysplasia (sp), Cerebral Palsy, ADD, and various speech disorders. The doctors expected him to never walk, go blind by 6, be otherwise severely mentaly and physicaly chalanged, and doubted he would live into his teens. But his parents refused to give up and did absolutely everything they could posibly do. He is now 21, 6'5", has trouble with his lungs that dosen't amount to much more than severe asthma, a slight limp, and a slight lisp. He is a 4.0 History student working towards his masters and a wonderful father and husband. I just wanted you all to know that sometimes, no matter how rare, there is a happy ending for these special kids. You guys are AWESOME! Hang in there! heart

well the doctor visit went quite well actually. for his heighth, he is in the the 75 percentile (down syndrome kids have their own groweth chart) and for weight he is in the 90 percentile, so he's doing awesome....i just need to keep feeding him like i am, basicly on demand and i have to go in to see the ped. in another 2 mos to check up on him......also i just finished cleaning the apartment, i'm so happy i finally have that out of the way......my husband's parents are flying in tonight so i wanted to make sure eveyrthing was clean before they came over....i'll post a new piccy of ben smiling in here later, it's so cute!!! he's so fussy this morning, i don't know how i managed to clean. sweatdrop

Hello!! Thanks for the warm welcome. Angelman Syndrome is one of those very rare chromosomal type syndromes. Kids that have it usually are misdiagnosed as CP or autistic although they don't fit either of these categories. You can find a lot of info Here and Here. Andy also had many medical problems and I was told when he was born he would only live a few years. Every time he went for surgery we kissed him goodbye but he always came out of them fine. Then he just died..he wasn't even sick. The coroner said he died of "old age"...at 23 years old. His body was done and he just shut down. No pain, he just drifted away. I have also 3 beautiful teens and a wonderful grandson who just turned 15 months and is smart as anything. Really keeps us busy here.
