Joy found herself surrounded but rather than gave into any feeling of terror, forced a wild, manic grin on her face. It was weird, trying to adjust to the shift of the sands beneath her feet, but it wouldn't stop her from doing her job.
What had it been that Jordan said? Something about accepting and memories? ********, too cerebral and introspective for someone like Joy but it was a nice, comforting advice. And she managed to get through a good deal of the centipedes that was swarming her.
As soon as the skull was free from Fredrick's hands and the trainee had stepped away Peyton's torch had flared into life, blue flame licking over the squirming larva, aimed into the eye sockets of the skull. She wanted them dead. All of them. It meant sweeping the flame in a widening circle around the charred remains of the skull, along the path Fredrick had come from.
"How long were they spilling out?" She said it over her shoulder as she followed his tracks back, burning anything even remotely bug like in her path.

Lawrence listened levelly, his expression unchanging, before nodding. "Sounds fine to me." he said with the faintest hint of a smile.
"Just give me a moment."
He turned and headed back in the direction of the noise and commotion where he knew the other hunters were, other hunters who happened to include no end of fragile and disposable newcomers.

Brittney threw a jab, felt the satisfying crunch of the spike pierce carapace and just for good measure, kicked it away. "Alright, you multi-legged mother ******** t**t waffles, who's next?" she cheered, ridiculously pumped up to ******** up more s**t.
Terry brought his arms down in the weirdest hammer blow, throwing most of his weight into it as opposed to letting his limbs act as the hammer. Agata happily crunched down on the last of the bugs, refusing to let up until it stopped moving.
"Kim, let's go." He said, blindly reaching for the sun hunter so they could, he didn't know, get some shade? Times like this had a habit of screwing everyone up and or over and Terry preferred not to be in the thick of it.

Because she was doing her best to block her own vision, another shriek leaves Abbi when she is touched, her hands momentarily flailing out at this mysterious thing. When she dares to look the image is worse, the body is now right up on her and touching her but Bradley's voice filters through the chaotic image. "Oh jeez, ok uh, I'm really freaked out cause--" Abbi chances another look at his face, whimpers, and goes back to putting her hands over her eyes. "YOUR FACE IS HECKIN' MESSED UP."
But she's trying, she really is, and takes a few deep breaths and stops to process what he's saying. There has to be some logic to this, despite what the panic is implying. "OK. OK, OK I'm going to believe you... I am... Probably hallucinating." She took a couple more breaths, but refused to move her hands. "Because right now... You look like a burned corpse with a really bad maggot infestation. Which sucks, cause your face was real cute and now its like a horror movie and I hate this place but you promise you're not dead? And that hallucinating is natural? I've never done that here, but this place is such a crapshoot, it's totally likely." Despite the situation, Viveca manages to interject her favorite thing: Snark.

Well, he handled those quickly. Kara couldn't help but marvel in the way the guy with the scythe handled the weapon--far better than she'd done. She couldn't even fault Branwen's short, <Take notes.> If anything, she'd planned to speak to him as soon as possible about if he'd be willing to give her a few lessons.
Though, the time to do so now slid away as she focused on what Gale was saying, lifting a brow at how he'd confirmed there were, indeed, worse things. The shaky laugh didn't help her. "That's... um. Ok. I prefer the exploding little ones. Vastly prefer." But she went quiet as he and a woman (Stormy) approached one another, looking away with a small smile on her face as he embraced the pink-haired woman. A way to try and respectfully give them a moment, not a hint of unease or get a room meant on Kara's part. If anything, it was a slight relief to see that personal relationships weren't forbidden, or something like that.
So when introductions were given, she was all smiles and little wave of greeting. "It's nice to meet you, Stormy. I think we're alri--" Her words broke off as another girl with another scythe (Abbi) began to panic not far from them, and the other guy was trying to reassure her about... his face? Kara peered at him in confusion. He seemed fine to her. Was she ok? Was it panic?
Well, if that were it, she sort of understood as she turned about and saw a six foot centipede next to Gale. Her eyes went wide, gripping her weapon tighter and hearing Branwen hissing in her head. There didn't seem a point in trying to shout for Gale to move. The thing was right there. Instead she swung her scythe across, slashing at the poison dripping centipede, at least relieved she hit it and not him. That wouldn't be a very good first impression.

Seeing one thing on fire, America tried to set another thing on fire. Sadly, she didn't have a runic torch on hand, having yet to understand the important of keeping a mission bag on hand at all times. However she did keep a Touch Up bag of sorts on hand, which meant hair spray and a lighter were never far behind.
Sadly, standard fire couldn't kill the the things oozing out of the body, but they were at least totally on fire now.

"They outlined it at the orientation, didn't they? Deus Ex Machin-ah!"
There was a fizzling snap from the pendant at his chest, but ultimately nothing happened except incurring a fraction of damage, and then in a fit of temper from Roswell, "Why did I actually expect that to work?"

"Of course! Some kind of fire would do the trick." That was absolutely not a thing Fredrick would have thought of in these circumstances, especially since he didn't have a magic torch himself (although first chance he got if he survived this desert, he would be looking into getting one). He trailed along in Peyton's wake, stepping over the charred bugs and, just once, smearing the ashes of one into the sand with a vindictive press of a boot. Otherwise he was careful now to keep away from the flame. "Not long, I ran this way as soon as I realized what was happening....Ah, right about there, I think. That's where I found it." At least it looked like it. Signs of a scuffle in the sand wouldn't be rare right about now.

There was the briefest of moments that Joy worried whether she could still hack it as a hunter. Too much missing of her old home and old life should have made her stronger, shouldn't it? She should be filled with a lot of anger and frustration over her stupid life choices and made her even more willing to just get beat up real badly. Maybe then she would finally be free and be with God and all that paradise salvation talk the priests from her childhood promised.
But then, weren't these poor creatures suffering too? Shouldn't she end it for them?

"Get her to safety. Please." Soleil, of course, was ignoring her own dire situation. Too concerned with making sure Luna was alright.

Bradley smiled at her, brow furrowing slightly at her comment of "face being really cute" and continued to watch her as she spoke. Yza chuckled in his mind and he glanced at his weapon for a moment.
"My face is really cute, huh?" he said, a smirk on his face despite the situation. Bradley ruffled her hair gently. "I promise I am not dead nor a walking corpse. And... hallucinating is... a thing here. I'm sorry you have to see that."
Bradley glanced behind him to Kara and the others, frowning at the giant centipede caught between them.
