Grenade 3 Go!

Sometime singing gave courage and boost, and she wasn't not serious about their situation, but in a horrible place like this, she needed to do something to fight her fear. She found singing helped to distract her from the fear and focused on what she did, so she sang to herself, even though others might think she needed to be more serious. She got misunderstood a lot, and she is used to it.

She wiped away the dirt on his face using her scarf and said,
"Uh huh. It means - are you the Prey or food? No we are the Hunters! We have to tell this thing or whatever it is that we won't be eaten so easily." She beamed, pulling the pin out and turned to toss it out towards the only tooth blocking a gap.

"That's interesting to know!" She didn't quite understand his explanation of why count to three before you throw the grenade but she didn't want to make him unhappy. "I think they are naughty too~" She giggled before turning to wave and yell at the Death Assistant.

"Uncle Mark, here! We burst out a hole and I have two ropes, what shall we do next?" She smiled and asked, quite satisfied of what they have done. Soon home, right?

The slime and stench were disgusting, but Noah had only landed in it, he hadn't fallen into it. He held onto Peyton, ignoring the gunk as best as he could; he might be grossed out by the stuff, but she needed to hang on to him right now, so he would deal. "Hang on, we're gonna get out of here," he said encouragingly. If he thought about helping her, he didn't have to think about what they were standing in.

SNAP. SNAP. SNAP.

One by one the teeth fell downwards, in a haze of smoke fume, acid, bile and blood hitting anyone in splash radius. There was an opening. Light poured out from the top, as did sand, slowly filling up the place.

It didn't take the Death Assistant too long, he shifted in his backpack at the very bottom and unlatched a long cord tied with a grappling hook. It took him multiple times, and it managed to clank against the teeth before bouncing back down, and he finally gave up, muttering to himself before pulling into the backpack again and pulling out two Busty Asian Ladies magazines, Axe Astronaut, Axe Chocolate, Axe Dark Chocolate, the extended edition of the Avengers, a bunch of glowing Runic dagger hilts, a bottle of Diet Pepsi, and finally what looked like a very short barreled gun. A grappling gun, though the polish was rather unfinished. The sand was up to their knees now, and everything inside was shaking, a terrible fleshy mass.

A few more attempts later there was a satisfying clink and Mark tugged before scampering up the rope faster than one could say cockroach. The pit lurched, he almost was impaled, but somehow managed to make it to the top, throwing another rope down. A rope ladder thankfully so nobody had to learn how to shimmy up ropes in less than five minutes and counting.

"Hurry up!" Mark looked nervous from above as the remaining teeth began to quiver and sand began to fall in faster now. "Make it quick or I'm leaving you guys. I dont-"

- And then he yelped and disappeared leaving the rope thankfully still hanging, and the ladder secure.

It would take long for Hunters to climb, and when they did they would see a strange sight. More Hunters groups of them, several of them holding Fear scanners. There was a portal set up next to a makeshift canopy tent, and underneath it there was a pile of weapon tablets and bits and pieces of corpses. Mark was nowhere to be seen.

A Moon Hunter with a specialization badge approached them. "Cleanup unit," she announced, tersely. "Sahara cleanup unit, to be specific. We need to check if you're safe, if you're contaminated you'll have to stay behind for.... famine quarantine."

She held up a scanner and then smiled. It wasn't a nice smile. "Now line up and make it quick."

OOC

GOING HOME
- RP your character climbing up the rope and roll 1d6! If they roll 1 or 6 they take 5 damage from the teeth while climbing up!
- If your character has a weapons tablet they can drop it off AFTER being scanned
- ALL HUNTERS Must be scanned for quarantine

SCANNING FOR QUARANTINE:

- If you are a TRAINEE (not intermediate ,just regular) you IMMEDIATELY get pinged. You are asked to stand in the quarantine zone, which is literally a 20 x 20 foot space enclosed by barrier daggers. You don't know what's wrong with you but everyone else in the Sahara cleanup unit is avoiding you at a wide distane.
- If you are an INTERMEDIATE TRAINEE roll 1d6. If odd you are quarantined. You are asked to stand in the quarantine zone, which is literally a 20 x 20 foot space enclosed by barrier daggers. If even you are CLEARED and you can either stay to try and help out/ drop off tablets/ etc etc or leave and go back into the portal. You are SAFE if you leave. It'll take a week or so for the injuries to clear.
- If you are a FULL HUNTER roll 1d6. IF you roll a 1 you are quarantined.

QUARANTINED

If Camille's mother had taught her anything other than to constantly smile it was that having to be asked twice was once too many. Vanessa Ryland had tried to do the best she could by her child but her authority had been firm and had to be without question. So when Mark had started to ascend, throwing a rope ladder down for the rest of them, it took all of two seconds for the redhead to scramble away at a rate that was undignified as hell.

She absolutely did not care. She needed to get out immediately before one of those bugs crawled into her jeans, needed to get away from the blood and death, had to get home. She was going to never eat a banana again, she swore. Never mind that enough Axe had been dumped out of Mark's backpack that the smell was soon going to permeate the entire thing! Cami almost almost preferred the stench of death that had been in the massive pit than what the alternative could have been.

Unscathed she made it to the top only to freeze at the sight of the Moon specialist. It took all of two seconds for the instrument in the woman's hand lit up like someone had won a jackpot at Caesar's Palace. A tired Sun trainee was directed to a very intimidating looking box that she stood outside of and refused to enter until someone all but shoved her inside.

It wasn't going to take much to send her hysterical again so she simply focused on one simple task: stripping. Off came the scarf, the coat, her gloves, anything that had been coated in the creature's blood and bile. Thankfully the braid she'd constructed before entering the desert had kept the mess from her hair so that she was standing barefoot, pantsless, in nothing but a cute pair of neon green panties and a t-shirt.

"Can I go home now?" Then, beneath her breath, the Countries of the World once more. United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama...

Nobody had to tell Hanna twice to get the hell out of dodge, post-haste. She dismissed her weapon, tucking the earrings into the pocket of her jacket. With a grunt, she gripped the rope firmly and began a long, smelly, shifting climb. Sand spilled in from the opening, filling her eyes and ears. She slipped twice, but managed not to fall completely. Adrenaline could be one hell of a boon.

Unfortunately, Hanna had a horrific, probably infected wound on her thigh. Shimmying up a rope was probably the worst thing for her to try to do right now, but she wasn't about to ask someone to carry her up on their back or anything like that. Every shift of her weight brought new waves of pain.

Near the top, a gust of wind shook the rope. It swayed. Hanna tightened her thighs, and then cried out suddenly as she felt the rope sink into her flesh. Her bandage felt nonexistent. It was almost as if her own Fear attack with Lady was eating her flesh. Tears stung her eyes; she couldn't help it. By the time she made it out, Hanna was an absolute mess: tears spilled from her eyes, her thigh was bleeding freely, congealed bodily fluids coated her in slime -- was that an ear stuck to the back of her jacket?

Staggering forward, Hanna squinted at the collection of other Hunters. Clean up crew? "My thigh is--" she began to say, but was cut off quickly by an unfamiliar face holding what was apparently a scanner. It pinged immediately. The other hunter took a step back, and she was pointed toward a holding area. "Wait, I need a bandage or something," she said as she walked where she was told.

Without warning, she found herself surrounded by barrier daggers. Panic flared through her. "What is going on?" she asked, nervous energy creeping into her voice. "What is going ON?" she said again.

Pain was burning through her. She was certain her thigh injury was infected at this point. The question was... with what? The room spun. "I don't feel so well..." Hanna said. She eased herself onto the ground, sitting with her good leg curled under her and the other straight ahead. Blood began to pool beneath her, soaking the sand. Shaking hands searched her body for some clean fabric to bind the wound -- but there wasn't anything clean on her left.

The shaking slowed, but it did not subside. Peyton's head was down as she held tightly to Noah's arm. She wasn't watching the others throwing grenades, she was concentrating on breathing evenly and not hyperventilating. Give her zombies, give her immanent death by drowning, give her life and death battles, but this? This was too much. She felt disgusting, and the subtle squirm of tiny legs against her skin and in her hair was enough to turn her stomach.

Teeth began to fall from, splashing in the nastiness they were standing in, and Peyton shuddered as it splattered against her legs, into her boots. She was going to have to burn her boots, her entire outfit. Cut her hair, peel off her skin...

Then there was light, and finally the Sun looked up, blinking after Mark's quick frame as he shimmied up the rope and out of sight. A ladder rolled down, and Pey didn't need the Death assistant's urging, she was already heading that way, hand tight around Noah's. Letting him go only as she reached the ladder so she could climb up. A quick glance was given over her shoulder, lips pressing into a thin line that was neither reassuring or damning, but merely an acknowledgement that they were leaving this hell of a pit.

Worst could be waiting ahead, they didn't know, but she climbed fast.

The group of hunters clustered around was indeed surprising, and she paused just off the ladder, staring at them warily before moving closer. Clean up crew, scanning, quarantine. She heard it all, but she was having trouble processing everything still. The trembling still lingering in small hands as she stood there, shivering, and let them scan her.

Nothing happened. The scanner was silent as she stood there and tried to pretend she wasn't covered in gore. It felt as if her skin was trying to crawl away, separating itself from her body, and her stomach gave a very unpleasant flip. Swallowing, she closed her eyes, taking shallow breaths to chase away the sudden nausea. For a brief second she thought she would lose her breakfast, but the dizziness passed, and as the clean up crew nudged her along she stared down at her feet, moving stiffly.

The blood was starting to dry in a tacky second skin, and she cringed, finally looking down at herself. Filthy, she was absolutely filthy. Literally caked in the nasty contents that had pooled in the pit of the beast's stomach.

Now that they were out, now that the sun was beating down against her and wind was blasting her again, her head seemed to be clearing. That or the familiar voices she heard coming from the quarantined zone. Hanna, and Camille. Now that she was safe Peyton felt that comfortable role of protector falling back into place. It helped to push away the soft ache at the back of her neck and everything else that had been making her shake.

Drawing a deep breath, the tiny Sun let out a long sigh as she pushed blood damp hair back from her face and tired it up. It didn't matter if she had cleared the scan, people she gave a damn about hadn't. If she could help in anyway, she would. "Hanna, put your head between your nears." She stood on the edge of the quarantine space. "And take shallow breaths. It'll be alright." She would have reached out and lay a hand on Hanna's shoulder if the barrier's hadn't separated them. If she hadn't been covered in gross.

A brow lifted as she turned pale eyes on Camille. She had stripped down to shirt and panties, and as much modesty as Peyton liked to hold onto, that didn't seem like a terrible idea. "Not yet," she answered, trying to smile. "Soon. Sit tight." No way was she going to to stripe down to her panties, but there were layers she could remove. Pulling her scarf off she dropped it on the sand beside her before sinking down beside it to pull her boots off. Gore soaked stockings came next, then her t-shirt came over her head so she was left standing in bloody shorts and a mostly clean camisole. Her arms and hair were still red, and her legs were pinkish, but it was a definite improvement.

Folding her legs, she turned enough so she could watch the pit and those still climbing out of it, as well as the line of hunters waiting to be scanned. She was looking for Noah, primarily, but also Evan, and every other familiar face she could remember having been present.

Clean, staying behind to assist!

Prolixity

When the mouth was blown open and light poured in, Melvin smiled. He didn't care about the sand falling in or the bugs now clearly visible. He cared that there was light, an opening, and hope of escape.

The sand that was pooling in was turning red before covering most of the stomach gore. Everything was neat. He just....really needed a shower, but he felt his shoulders shake, close to the brink of tears just to be out of this fleshy hell.

He released Jordan now. "....time to go." He said, glad that the Sun had been right in that they were going to be okay. He made his way to the rope ladder and climbed up.

Free to go.

He was surprised by the amount of Hunters suddenly here and that the wind had died down. Tablets and gore littered the golden sand, but he didn't care to stay and look. He was covered in slim and was too shaken to care about much else aside from getting back to the island.

He passed the scanners, holding his breath, but was waved off. Without hesitating, he made his way to the portal.

Like a little soldier, Hanna hung her head between her legs as best she could, cringing at bringing her face closer to the muck of her clothing. Her face was the only place on her that wasn't streaked with monster/human/mystery blood. "What are we infected with, Pey?" she said, adopting a nickname for the girl that she had never actually used prior to this. "I have an open wound, man. That can't be good." After a moment, she was able to even out her breathing, and the feeling that she was moments away from passing out subsided.

The redheaded Death Hunter was not alone in the holding area. She watched as Cami quickly shed herself of as much clothing as possible. A pinch of guilt snapped in Hanna -- she was happy that she wasn't alone here. Well, whatever, she was human. And she needed help.

"Cami," Hanna said. "This is going to sound weird, but can you help cut away my pants? At least this pant leg." She patted the leg with an injury. "I.... I really ******** it up. Like four times. Same spot." The flesh felt flayed. "I want to at least try to clean it."

Gingerly, she slipped free of her scarf and jacket on her own, leaving them in a pile beside her. The two tablets thunked heavily against one another. Oh yeah, she still had those. She had on a t-shirt underneath and the remnants of a tank-top below that. (The majority of it had been ripped away in an attempt to create bandages.)

Nudity wasn't a HUGE deal to Hanna... but it was enough of a deal for her to feel really weird at the prospect of fully stripping. One pant leg was okay. Maybe her t-shirt too if she was kept here too long. But for now, it stayed. Plus, she was a little scared that the sand might start blowing again, and the idea of literally having a sandy v****a, or anything else for that matter, was not appealing. Not to mention sand burns.

Suffice to say, in the background Nora participated in the grenade lobbing, if only because while beating their way out was out of the question, for some reason risking explosives in an enclosed space was absolutely the right way to go, not counting falling teeth and who knew what else fragmenting off from the inside of the thing's mouth. Al...right then. It didn't help that the assistant was a mousey sort. Or an agitated chipmunk. Chipmunk sounded better.

She climbed up the rope without further ado, more than happy to get out and see the harsh desert sun.

-----

Stormy was still stuck in her memories.

There were bugs and there was darkness and there was slime that coated her, all things quite familiar. The loud noises were frightening, however, and Gale's reassurances were not enough. She stayed against the fleshy wall and covered her ears like she was told and took deep, deep breaths through her mouth to avoid vomiting from the stench. She was tempted to just keep a hand on the wall and try to move, try to somehow find a way out (it was a labyrinth, after all, not a throat, but a maze, a deep underground maze where mutants festered and bugs welcomed her).

But then the noises stopped. A lifeline was extended. Light.

It didn't quite conform to her memory, but a lot didn't anyway. Things were confusing, and the only thing Stormy got out of this was that it was also wrong. But she knew she couldn't get left behind, if only because she was remembered, and with mechanical motions she clambered up the rope faster than her previous listlessness suggested.

-----

Jack, who was thoroughly disgusted and a few steps away from a small breakdown, made no fuss at all as he ran for the rope, all but lunging up in her haste. No amount of showers would make this right fast enough.

errehone quarantined

The giant of a man was ushered in after attempting to spook Peyton by feigning reaching out to try and infect her (or God knew what they had; he knew it was disgusting and that was enough). After receiving sharp looks and an extra rough push, he decided it was still worth the effort. Stormy soon came after with much less fuss--she'd known her diagnosis before the scanner had finished.

Really, it didn't take a machine to tell her she was sick.

She separated herself from those already in the containment area and crumpled to the ground, hugging her legs to her chest and burying her head into them. At least Gale wasn't infected, she told herself. At least he wasn't infected. Of course he wasn't; he hadn't really been there.

Jack took noticed and stepped over for a moment, shedding his coat and wiping grime off of him as nonchalantly as possible. "You're not going to have a meltdown on me, are you?"

She didn't reply. He sighed.

"Just . . . Stay there, I guess. Maybe they've got water somewhere around here."

Stormy still didn't reply. Wiping his hands literally and figuratively, he dumped his coat over her, followed by his shirt off to the side. The last thing he needed to add on top of all this s**t was sweat stains.

-----

"Alright, alright, I'm going." A disgruntled Nora found herself shoved off towards the quarentined area, sand crusted and sweating. Looked like the weapon tablet she tried to pawn off didn't help much, and she was left clutching it for the moment along with her roll of bandages. Infection was just the perfect little cherry on top of the s**t sundae, she supposed.

But you're alive, Norrie, that's the good part, Beatrix whined.

Yes, yes. But that didn't mean she had to be happy about the circumstances anyway.

"And take ten, ladies. Sun tanning time," she told Cami and Hanna as she ducked in, wiping at her face. "Well earned too, eh? Mind you, I'll come out of this looking closer to a burnt egg, but nobody's perfect." Just had to keep taking things in stride until there was actual time to proces things.

"Cami, you alright?" she had to ask, considering the Sun's . . . previous behavior. Hanna still was bleeding as well. It was as good a time as any to practice bandaging, so Nora fiddled with her pockets and produced her runic bandages. "I'm no good at these, but doubt I could make it much worse, eh?"

"I wouldn't risk it." Jack had joined them, finding that he needed to concentrate on something other than the fact that s**t was covering all of his good clothes. Jokes aside, his regular expression of a slight scowl was fixed on them as he went over.

"Here." He snatched the bandages from Nora's grasp without bothering to ask and squatted next to Hannah. "Life division. Done enough of this to make a ******** beautiful mummy in my sleep. You've got a shitty partner if they're letting you bleed before your shield's broken, though," he said as a matter of factly. "Hold still."
