"If she takes after her father." Emma laughed, softly, as if afraid she'd disturb the presence inside her.
"I still don't really believe it."

Kaok shook her head. "Oh, please, if she takes after either of you."
"I imagine it'd be very hard to." The Faun agreed, still somewhat amazed. "Believe that there's a tiny little adorable person inside of you."

"You flatter me."
"No, she doesn't."
Emma paused, turning around. "...why are you wet?"
Hrothbert was soaked to the bone, holding a mess of tattered fabric that in a former life had been his shirt (revealing a chest that was all flat planes and lean muscle). "You do not want to know."
Emma shrugged, looking very pleased at the half-naked man standing before her. He had finally noticed that Kaok was there. "Oh. Empress."

"Hello, Lord Bainbridge." The Faun said, attempting not to laugh all the while. Though, she was having a terribly hard time doing so. She managed to bring it down to a singular chuckle in the end, and tried to appear more composed. "Did something happen, sir?"

"I had an encounter with an animated torture device." he sighed, catching the look in Emma's eye. The enchantress was grinning broadly (and somewhat lustfully).
He paused, arching a silvered eyebrow at her. "I'm going to go put something proper on."
"Please don't."

"Oh, yes. She's rather an unpleasant one to deal with," Kaok said, nodding to herself. Maiden was not only exceedingly annoying, but quite... actually dangerous. If she's not dead before I am...
She shrank back a little as the nobles spoke to each other.

"You know her?" he asked, ignoring the clearly intentioned looks Emma was giving him.
Not in the second trimester.
You were nowhere near so reluctant in the first trimester.

"She'll approach me every so often to ask if I'll let her devour my husband's flesh." Completely casual and calm as she said this, Kaok might as well have been saying that her garden was doing well. "And then sometimes as various loved ones, just to see my reaction."

"I see." he replied in equally casual tones, as if commenting on the appearance of the aforementioned garden. "Definitely a character to watch; she has a whole pocket dimension inside her that I'd love to observe without the threat of being eaten."
"So that's why you're wet...I like it."

"She does?" Kaok sat up more, quite interested.
"How does that work? How do you get to it? Is it really inside or is it a portal to an outside dimension that's sort of not really located anywhere? And what happened inside?"

The sorcerer's features brightened considerably as he led Kaok over a few books, looking more and more animated as he tried to explain (in terms the Faun would understand) the way in which the pocket dimension worked and the events that had unfolded on the inside. He flipped through a few of the texts, pointing out a diagram every now and then.
"Always a scholar before a fighter..." Emma whispered to herself, watching the two of them.
((Nerd love.))

"Oh! I see." She nodded, looking down at the diagrams, and trying to recreate the same pictures as life-size, and trying to use gestures to display what it would look like. "So it's sort of similar to this...?"
((Reminds me of this...))

((XD. It totally is.))
He nodded, an earnest smile coming onto his features. "Exactly. Only with magic rather than physics (even though they're basically the same thing at the most basic level). Though I am curious as to how she managed to put a shield against teleportation in there without disrupting her own morphic field." He trailed off again, continuing the dialogue as Emma looked on with a knowing smile.
She could wait to let him feel the baby kicking. He looked too at home in that moment.

(( cool ))
"What if it wasn't a shield? What if it was a... a wheel clamp sort of thing instead of a roadblock? Instead of defending the dimension against being teleported out of, she makes magic-users temporarily incapable of performing that particular sort of spell?" The Empress attempted to explain her theory, though she wasn't so well versed in the way of magic.
"It would mean she wouldn't have to use the defense unless she trapped a magic-user, as opposed to using the shield all of the time. And the cases would be more isolated than protecting the entire dimension."

"It's quite possible, but that's a rather tricky bit of magic to accomplish. She would have to cover all the different variations on the same spell and have the power to block each of them. It does take less energy, but it's harder to manage. Brilliant thought, Empress." he added, grabbing a quill from thin air and scribbling something in the margin of a book.
"I wish I had more time to analyze her..."
Out came the reading glasses from a pocket and Emma's quiet smile grew even larger.
