"Ha... hai..." Watari replied quickly, kneeling down near Muraki's legs and pulling the doctor up. It took just a few seconds for the two shinigami to lay the man out on the couch. The scientist plucked a blanket from the back of the sofa, and draped it over the unconscious man's form. "With your spiritual power, it should have worked." the blond spoke softly, thinking for a few moments. "Unless... this Saki isn't a normal spirit."

"I...really don't know what to think. I put everything I had into it." Tsuzuki sat down on the side of the bed, stroking Muraki's cheek and hair, first one, then the other. "What other sort of spirit could he be? I mean, we investigated the story back when we thought Muraki was just...Muraki. Saki was Muraki's half-brother, but he was deranged. He tried to kill Muraki, but the family servant saw what was about to happen and took Saki out before he could harm his brother. I guess it was his anger in death that allowed him to transfer into Muraki's body, but nevertheless...what would make him so strong, and so evil?" he turned his eyes to Watari, hoping that the scientist might have some sort of answer for him. Anything would do at this point. Any direction, any lead, any hope for making the doctor safe, his true self.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Otori looked up at Micheal, disappointed that the demon didn't lift a finger to help, or even offer to help, in the situation. Walking over to where the two shinigami were beside the man, he knelt down, placing his hands on Muraki's chest, preparing to lend healing energy to the doctor. Touching the man, however, was like grabbing onto a live electric wire, jolting the angel, making his feathers stand out on end on his wings. Gasping, the tenshi fell backwards. "P...pure evil...lies inside this man. Yet...so does pure good. He is the one I am meant to protect, yes. The evil one wishes to kill me." Otori looked up at Watari, wide-eyed. "I remember now. I saved him from a great fire, but he was dying. The wicked one took me...drained my power to save himself. That is why I couldn't remember. He...he....this monster..." Otori began to curl in on himself, memories that had been locked away flashing through his mind of the wicked force that attacked him so brutally on that night. He was meant to protect this man. He had protected him, in body. He had failed in saving his soul. He had paid the price that night under a blood red moon...with his body.
(((OOC: Muraki's on the sofa, not the bed, hehehe.)))
~ ~ ~
This changed everything. "If Saki reacts that badly to an angel, gomen but... couldn't he be a demon? And not just any demon but a high level one at that?" the scientist asked, glancing to Micheal. "Do you know of any demons who have gone renegade in the past few years, Micheal-san?" It was just a question, but one that the shinigami hoped his house guest would answer. Especially since it concerned the tenshi... "Otori-san, you said he trained your power, right?" amber eyes focused on the doctor. "If I'm not mistaken, Muraki exhibited the powers of an Energy Vampire before... when the two of you first met, Tsuzuki-chan. This could be Saki's own skill and NOT that of Muraki Kazutaka."
Otori was still sitting in the floor, curled in on himself. He never should have touched the pale man, he kept thinking to himself as his mind kept forcing him to remember more and more. He tried to focus on what Watari was saying, but for some reason his skin had begun to burn. "He did more than drain my power," Otori unfurled, revealing the blood red curse markings all over his arms, running into his shirt and all over his body, exactly like the ones Kurosaki Hisoka had, "He...he...AAAARGH!" the angel cried out in pain, stretching out an arm to Micheal, his eyes begging for any mercy he could get. Unfortunately for Otori, though he didn't know it, this meant that he was a puppet of Saki's, a tainted doll who could be forced to do Saki's bidding if he gained control again.
Micheal hurried over to Otori's side, pulling him gently away from where Muraki lay. He looked up at Watari and gave him a crooked grin. "Renegade demons? By our standards I'm a renegade. Taking possession is a past time for most of us." He gathered the huddled angel into his arms trying to figure out what exactly had happened and what to do about it. "Otori. . . It's okay. I won't let anything hurt you."
He gave the unconscious Muraki an evil look. "I can think of a quick way to solve this problem. But I assume you don't want blood on the floor." He looked at the fingernails of one hand as if he wasn't a bit interested in what was going on before returning his attention back to Otori. "You might lose your deposit if I did so."
"Just stop it..." Otori whimpered, squeezing his eyes shut. "Just...just stop it!" he yelled at Micheal. "I can't deal with this! Iie! Enough of your big talk and idle threats! You'll leave him be!" the angel stumbled to his feet, arms wrapped around himself, curse markings flaring red. "Won't let anything hurt me, Micheal? Really? It's a bit too late for that! You weren't there...you couldn't save me then. You weren't there when he had me pinned to the ground...claiming me...raping me!" The angel cried out, lashing out in fear and anger. He had lost control of himself, giving in to the pain and terror. Before he blacked out, he delivered a sharp slap to the side of Micheal's face.
Micheal looked startled at what Otori was saying. The curse markings and the mention of rape. He took an involuntary step backward at the force of the accusations and the stinging slap to his face. That didn't stop him from catching the angel before he hit the ground. "Don't you think I would have been there if I could have?" He said in a muted voice. He reached out a hand to touch his love's cheek.
After a few breaths he looked up, studying the markings of the curse, even going so far as to pull the angel's shirt off to make better sense of them. He did recognize them and the knowledge only angered him. It was possible for him to undo some of the physical damage to Otori. But it would take time and the angel's cooperation. At least, the way the angel would accept would take time. Micheal raised his head, there was only a look of anger in his eyes, a deep smoldering anger that was made worse by guilt of not being there when his lover needed him most.
Unfortunately, there would have been no way for him to have done anything. He'd been healing from the wounds Otori's guardians had given him. Come to think of it, where were they when the angel needed them most? He growled and his own wings sprouted from his back. One was flully fledged and raven black and the other looked as if it had been hacked off halfway and been chewed on by something. Oddly enough anger gave way to sorrow. Micheal kept his peace though, simply lifting the angel in his arms and walking into the bedroom. He wasn't about to do anything more than get Otori as far from the one that caused this mess as possible.
"Micheal-san," Watari spoke carefully, a hint of sorrow and regret in his voice. "If it's any consolation... Otori-san isn't the only one who bears those marks. A boy shinigami does as well... I've been looking into them and... quite possibly... come up with a way to thwart the pain of the curse. When Otori-san wakes... would you ask him if he would be willing to try my invention? It should alleviate some of the physical burden those marks carry."
The angel had Muraki's curse... no, apparently not Muraki's but Saki's. "We're dealing with a demon beyond anything I've seen..." the blond spoke, amber gaze focusing on Tsuzuki. "And all this time we were fighting him like he was some mere mortal human... were we so blind, Tsuzuki-chan?"
The scientist moved behind where the amethyst-eyed shinigami was, gently putting his hands on Tsuzuki's shoulders. "Why didn't you tell me?" the blond asked softly. "I'm not like Bon or Tatsumi... I wouldn't have yelled at you or pulled you away..." After all, Watari understood full well an impossible love...
"That's for him to say. I won't force anything on him that he doesn't want." He said in a low voice. Gone was the attitude of a cocky demon that he'd been before. His face was a study of conflicting emotions; there was rage for not being able to help his love, guilt for not catching it sooner, and sorrow. "What do you suggest we do about that?" He gestured to Muraki. "If he's not a demon now, it's not for lack of trying. From what Otori has written on him, he has the proper connections. My former master's marks are on the both of them." He shook his head. "I can get around them but it will take time and the curse won't really be gone, just changed."
This caught the scientist's attention. "Change the curse? Your former master's marks?" turning, one hand still on Tsuzuki's shoulder, Watari addressed this strange revelation. "I'm more than sure that, if what Tsuzuki says is true, that this curse is a creation of Saki's... but how do you know of it, Micheal-san?"
Any tiny bit of information would help... because everything Watari had to go on, was purely speculation. Except his invention... that was more than likely guaranteed to work. He just wasn't sure about how it would react to a demon's power being so close... it might cause more harm than good.
Micheal gave a short bark of laughter and his wings vanished in a burst of black feathers. "Demons are always good at getting around bargains that are struck. Rules can be bent if not broken entirely. How I know of it. . . well. . " The demon pulled out a bottle of holy water and opened it, holding out one arm and letting a drop of the water touch his skin. Firey red markings appeared over the afflicted arm and up to his shoulder, stopping halfway across his chest and lower neck. "This was the price for disobeying his orders. I might not be as powerful as my master is, but I'm also to valuble to lose." He said through clenched teeth. He shook his hand as the runes began to fade, taking with them the sensation that the skin was being flayed from his arm.
"Such is the price sometimes. . .But, it can be gotten around. Pain can only do so much. Still it's a price I will pay to see Otori free." He spoke to Watari only, not caring that Tsuzuki was there. He would help Otori, and that was as far as he was willing to go without a good reason.
Moving away from Tsuzuki, the scientist reached out a hand, "May I?" he asked, before gently touching the strange colored markings.
They were the same, no doubt about it. But Micheal's came from the contact with holy water... Hisoka's had always come from contact with or a command from Muraki.
"Your master raped you then as well?" Watari asked, removing his hand from the demon. "I don't know if my invention would work on you... it's never been tested for demons. Then again, it hasn't been tested for angels either. I developed it strictly for Hisoka Kurosaki... though I haven't convinced him to use it yet." sighing, the blond shinigami folded his arms over his chest. "As far as I can see, neither Saki nor Muraki made any sort of bargain with Bon. He was simply taken and left to die a horribly painful death. Since tenshi and akuma, well and shinigami alike, are not technically alive... the curse can't kill... but no doubt it can inflict crippling pain." amber eyes focused on Micheal for a long moment. "What sort of bargain did you strike with your former master?"
Micheal held out his arm for Watari to look at. "Rape?" He made a sound of amusement. "I suppose you could call it that. I made no agreement, this was for my failure to bring him Otori, and after his gaurdians and I had a go around." He shook his head. "I don't remember much of the first few weeks after I was banished, only that I survived and got away. This is more of a useful reminder, I Know when my master is looking for me. He is only my master in effect that he is a stronger and more ruthless demon than I." The demon shook his head. "How could I bring him Otori when I was more than half in love with him? By the looks of things, my master got what he wanted by another route."
"But why Otori-san?" Watari asked, curious about the entire affair. "If this was your punishment for not bringing him... he obviously got his hands on him somehow... so why Otori-san? Why this particular tenshi?" It was a valid question, after all.
Of course this didn't even begin to answer an even bigger question...
Why did Saki know this curse?
"He's a scholar. He's probably forgotten more than either of us ever knew. Secrets are his business, Knowledge is power and all that. My master is seeking another form of power besides force. Well, who else would know weak points of others?" He shrugged. "At least that is what I think. He might be after Otori because he's the first angel that is mostly harmless to come into his reach."
