((Breathing some life back into this place.))
Emma was surrounded by books. Her desk was covered with leaning towers of texts, piled high around the enchantress slumped over the desk. Chestnut hair cascaded down around her face, barely brushed and knotted. Her current volume bore on its cover the words 'Unusual Pregnancies'.
Unusual indeed. she thought as she read on.
A close observer would have noticed that there were dark circles under the elf-woman's eyes.

Arrived quite recently by ship (a nice one, too, there were advantages to being friends with the Empress), a certain elf doctor had found his way to the library. He'd been asked to do a favor for the Enchantress, and he was less than excited about it. It wasn't that he didn't want to help Emma out, just... he wasn't all that great.
"Lady Emma?" He called from the doorway. "It's Cairndeer."

"She actually followed through, blasted girl..." Emma muttered as she braced herself against the chair in order to get up. As she stood, she drew her facade of dignity about her, coming to the doorway to greet him. She curtsied, her features stern. "Come in, please."

Looks like I'm wanted here. James thought at first, and then immediately hid the thought as he stepped in the room. "Kaok told me that you needed help."

You're misdirecting your anger. If you need to be angry, be angry at Kaok, not him. I hate having a voice of reason.
"So she did." Emma replied, pulling up a chair for the doctor. "Can I get you some tea?"

"No, but thank you." He smiled, feeling terribly awkward. "If you would like me to leave..."

"No, you came quite far, it would be rude to turn you away." she replied, taking a seat herself. "How much did Kaok tell you?"

"She told me that you were having trouble sleeping, and that was about it." James answered, twiddling his thumbs as he avoided eye contact.

"And what is your recommendation?" she asked quietly, waiting for him to look at her.

"Depending on what the cause is, there are a variety of solutions." He eventually looked, but after a few moments. It amazed him even how socially inept he was. "What is the cause?"

"Nightmares." she responded coolly, determined to let that be as detailed as she would get. Despite Kaok's assurances, she wasn't entirely trusting of James.
Her gaze was level and penetrating, the weariness she felt masked (hopefully).

"For that, I can prescribe either therapy, herbs, drugs or... well, magic." He sounded even less confident with the last one.

"Yes, probably." He shifted uncomfortably. His job was somehow easier when people were dying and he had to stop that. Usually, he didn't have to talk to them then.
"Have you tried sleeping pills?"
