"Only two," Cindy replied, "Though the family, generally speaking has three languages we use often. Common Tongue, Japanese and Chinese, the latter was introduced into the family because of father. That's the language his people his far in the East, Japanese comes from the East too, but it comes from a small island nation. Grandmother Yume's people came from there."

These places roughly didn't exist anymore but their influnces could still be felt and seen all over Gaia.

"Oh, I see," Rhea grinned. "I know six, that's Common Elvish, High Elven, Ancient Tongue, Common Tongue, Dwarfish and Human! But that's only because I know them by magic, like Mama does. You're going to learn some of our languages too, aren't you? The ones that Papa writes his books in, so that you can read them, right?"

Cindy nodded, "It would be easier that way than having them read to me or repeating the research myself."

And she had the time to learn and the mental capitcity to do so, so she saw no reason why she could not learn another language or two.

"Maybe if Shiro comes to visit again one day, if you stick around him or even Lin you could learn a few more that doesn't exist here."

"That would be fun," Rhea admitted thoughtfully, "but what would be the point of it? No one here would understand me ..."

She shook her head. "No, I think six languages is enough," she decided. "That just makes the most sense, to learn the languages that I'll be using."

She grinned at Cindy - but suddenly her eyes widened in shock. "I forgot my staff outside!" she gaped. "I better get it before Mama and Papa notice I forgot it, I'll be back!"

And she ran out the door without looking back.

Lin was glad and yet nervous to see the Ranch all at the same time. Glad because she was eager to deliver her cookies and nervous because she didn't know if Elros was still her and she had to say sorry to Aragost (it didn't help Miyu couldn't come and had entrusted her to deliver her gift).

She would live though... Lin thought to herself as she entered the Ranch House.

"Hello?"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:18 pm

The house was quiet - far more quiet than it had ever been when Arwen had lived there with her family. Other than that, everything was the same as it had always been: the same plants in the same places, the same pictures on the walls; perhaps the only difference was that by this time, the rug in the hall, and the floors where so many children had trod in the past decades, were beginning to wear.

Yet from the upper floors, a shuffling noise could be heard: first a scuffle, then silence, then another scuffle, and a soft curse in elvish.

Well that was really weird, Lin thought, but she could hear the scuffle... and of course the curse. She tilted her head up and yelled upwards.

"Hello?"

Should she go up she wondered? Lin began to climb the stairs, probably everyone else was out working...

The scuffling stopped and a voice hollered back, "Up here! Can you give me a hand for a minute?"

And then everything fell silent once more.

Lin blinked and hurried up the rest of the steps looking for the where the voice had been coming from. Her eyes scanning the hallways as she tried to figure out where it was.

"Where are you?" Lin decided to check the rooms.

"Top floor, second bedroom on the left," the voice called back. "Come on, then, it's a bit heavy with only one arm!"

The voice was strained, as if the person it belonged to was struggling with something.

One arm? Lin hurried to the said bed room and poked her head in to see exactly what had happened that required help. Or for that matter what had happened that meant someone was carrying something for only one arm.

She hurried over to the said person.

The voice belonged to Arahad, now fifteen years old and very nearly grown up. At the current moment, he was holding up a bookshelf taller than himself with one arm, bracing one foot against the base of his bed to keep the bookcase from falling on him. He was surrounded by books that had fallen from the shelves, along with a few carvings and loose papers, and a shattered inkpot. The reason he was using only one arm was clear: his other arm was bound and in a sling; and with only one available arm, he wasn't able to push the bookshelf back into an upright position.

"Just help me push it back," he grunted, straining against the weight.

Lin only blinked once before rushing over and helped Arahad push the bookshelf back upright before it could actually fall on him. Once she was certain it wasn't going to fall and crush them both she looked at Arahad's arm.

"What happened?" she couldn't help but ask.

"Reaching for a book on the top shelf," Arahad panted once the shelf was safely back against the wall. "Should have grabbed a stool, I know, but I don't even know where it is."

He chuckled softly. "Next time I'll look for it."

He knelt down, his slinged arm hanging loosely in front of him, and started to rummage through the books, looking for the one had had wanted in the first place.

"By the way," he grinned at Lin, "thanks - and welcome. Long time no see."
