Joe cocked his head. "Wait, didn't someone say that the Titan's Fist are sentient things, that protect their user because they want to? Doesn't that mean that we could get through the defenses easily?"

"They have a couple of sentient weapons," Takeshi answered. "However, both the Fists of the Titan and the Oathkeeper happen to be on good terms with their partners. Plus, they can only communicate and be communicated to by the person holding them, which defeats the whole purpose. It's pretty frustrating."

"Oh." Joe hung his head, pretending to be sad. "I was gonna suggest that we try to get on better terms with the Fists. Ah well."

"Uh huh." Takeshi sighed. "Let's get back as fast as we can. Legion's been personally covering us from the Shadowmen."

((Eh. Whuddabout Kayla?))
Paul glanced up at Josh. "Say. These Fists of the Titans. Things don't just magically (no double meaning intended) turn into magical objects with such immense power. Where'd those suckers come from?"

"They claim to be empowered by the Greek Titan Hyperion," Josh explained. "I'm almost inclined to believe them, considering..." A blinding light flashed around him. "On the other hand, the forging techniques are far beyond what they probably could've done back then." He paused. "Bullshit, you don't have any cults. All the Greek cults are for the Olympians. No, don't give me that s**t. No. No. Such lies. Such lies." He laughed. "They claim to have been forged by a cult of Titan-worshipers, the little liars."

"There's a cult for everything if you look hard enough." She was grinning now, swinging the oranges as she walked. So Josh talked to voices as well. She wondered if there was anybody in the city of Los Angeles who did not, in face, talk to voices in their head. "So, those fists. If they have no weilder, or have nobody to weild, I should say, do they have any power?"

"Yes, there are cults for almost anything," Josh answered, "But since the Olympians were the focus of the Greek system, they got most of the cults. As for having no successor... they tend to pass hands peacefully due to the Aegis spell. Generally, anyone with a similar view to them on how things should be gravitates towards it."

"Since it's physically impossible for me to attack you, you can't take this question the wrong way. What happens when the wielder is slain? Does the slayer become the wielder, or does the man who simply gets them become the wielder? Oh, and does it rely on the preference of them?"

"Their preference can get pretty nasty as far as preventing someone they dislike from taking them. Nuclear fusion of the person's hands, for instance. As for passing them on, apparently they go dormant and just fry anyone they find displeasing until they have someone they like, or are passed on voluntarily, with the preference being the latter," Josh answered.

Kayla cringed, chalking up a mental never to tangle with senitent weapons. "So it's a little like my magic, I guess. It's hard for me to channel some demons because we just can't possibly get along in the same body. It would be such a mess...There was this one shapeshifter, a japanese kind of fox thing, who I actually got along with pretty well. But we disagreed in all the wrong places, and we'd end up rejecting the summon before anything useful could happen. Miss the little b*****d. Ah...Vassily wants to know if there is any way to impose one's will upon a weapon like the fists. He wants to make sure you understand he has no interest in them for himself. He is...he says he thinks that Legions next step will probably be to either break or buy the Fists."

"Legion has nothing on the fists. When people try to hold them away from potential users, coincidences surround them, for which they would like to take, and I quote, 'credit for their masterful work," Josh answered with amusement. "Imposing your will isn't as easy for the Fists as it is for an external weapon, because they can at most make you drop them. This things can cripple you. As for breaking the, Legion is a lesser divinity and these are powered by a greater divinity, if you believe them. And they've tangled with him before. Their partner from a few hundred years ago, my ancestor, was the one who killed Legion."

Kayla raised her eyebrows, impressed. She felt a little tingling sensation behind her forehead which meant that Vassily was doing the same. "Jesus H. Christ, that's the coolest thing I've ever heard." As she strolled along, she looked down at her own hands, so very weak in comparison. All they were really good for now was drawing, as her soccer days had come and gone. Thinking back to her collegiate career, she felt, for the first time in a while, the impulse to train. She was overcome with it for a moment, and had to fight the impulse to stop where she was and start doing pushups or venture into Hell to improve her magic. "So far to go..." she muttered to herself, and walked on.
