Kit's Trainer Card

She waited for her pokemon to be healed up before walking out with them. She kept her eyes peeled for a moment until Sage flew past her. She skated after her pidgy but felt there was something she needed. Something she was trying to tell her this whole time. She came to a stop and looked down at a sharp beak in the grass. Sage placed the beak over her own beak and looked up at Kit.

"A memento." She nodded. "Why don't we head for the pokeranger base. I think maybe they can help us with how we're suppose to handle all the stress of helping the world." She stretched and looked around still worried about a strange man that'd be after them.

She didn't see anyone luckily and made her way to to the train station to leave this place for now. She knew she'd likely return to get back on her journey.

Kit's Trainer Card

Kit got off the boat and saw how everything was overrun by Pokemon. She quickly skated in her new Ranger outfit worried for her mother. The pokemon were for the most part fine but she felt she didn't understand what was going on. The board told her the pokemon escaped BUT it didn't tell her how or why. She looked around seeing people running from various pokemon running amok. Even in all the confusion she managed to get past it all and get close to the pokemon lab where her mother was with her father talking about the situation.

"Hey nice threads kiddo." Lucio gave Kit a thumbs up.
"Thanks pops...Um...I was informed about what happened but how did they all get out?"
"We're not sure yet, but could you figure out the mystery later we need to round up these guys." Lucio stated.
"We? Dad you're not a pokemon Ranger go home, I can do it."
"Woah haha that's my girl. All right but if you can't fix it in a few hours I'll come back out here to help okay." he offered.

Kit nodded then looked at her mom.

"Which starters got out, all of them or just some?" Kit asked.
"Here's my clipboard of the currently missing pokemon.
"So there are ten, but why are these three circled?" Kit asked.
"Those three were about to be handed out to trainers today and are level five, and they are the leaders. A Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtal. If you can capture them I'm sure the other pokemon will listen to them and return to the lab." She explained.
"Sadly I won't know which one is which so, I'll need some nets if you have any until I find a way handle the situation better." Kit stated.
"All right." She went into the lab and came out with some netting they had in case emergencies happened.

Kit nodded to herself and hopped she could handle this. She took in a deep breath and hoped she wouldn't end up tangled in her own rope.

“Next stop is Pallet Town! Next stop: Pallet Town,” the conductor called out as he made his way past Adrian's seat. Glancing up from his kindle, Adrian pulled the shade back from the window and peered outside. The noonday sun glared back at him causing him to shield his eyes. Dropping the shade back into place, Adrian waited a few seconds for the spots to clear from his vision. This is what he got when he decided to read the entire trip with the shade blocking the majority of the sun, but it was well worth it.

When the train had started its journey, Pikachu had become very anxious. Every creak or clang from the engine caused the pokemon to tense to the point where Adrian grew concerned. If Pikachu's behavior didn't warrant unease, the small sparks dancing about the pokemon's cheeks did. Even Creed's constant attempts at conversation with Pikachu, to try and calm him down, were met with silence. Creed shared a nervous glance with Adrian, unsure of what else he could do. Thinking quickly, Adrian had reached into his bag and pulled out his kindle. “Reading always helps me unwind,” Adrian had said calmly as he patted his lap. Pikachu hesitated for a moment to move from his spot but he soon jumped up into Adrian's lap once Creed bounced into it. Watching Creed curl up on one of Adrian's thighs, Pikachu tried to follow suit but failed as the train produced more racket.

Adrian smiled down at the tense pokemon warmly and lay a comforting hand on Pikachu's back. “You're going to be fine. There is nothing to worry about,” he said soothingly. Eventually some of the strain left Pikachu's body as he laid down on Adrian's lap. Turning on his kindle, Adrian scanned his books till he found one that he thought might work. After all, reading Sherlock Holmes always calmed his twin siblings down.

Cuing up Sherlock Holmes: The Valley of Fear on his kindle, Adrian had leaned back and began reading in a gentle voice. That had been a few hours ago and he was only stopping now. Reaching for one of the bottles of water he had bought from the food cart, along with enough snacks and drinks for Creed and Pikachu, Adrian gave a content sigh as the cool liquid quenched his parched throat. Although it had been a long aloud read session, it had worked. Pikachu was now comfortably nestled into Adrian's left side while Creed was snuggled into his right. The strain that had washed over the electric pokemon upon the beginning of the trip was gone. Nothing was tense about Pikachu's body language now as he held the kindle and examined the page they had left off on.

“We're almost to Pallet Town,” Adrian said as he stretched his arms above his head. “We should probably pack up.” As Adrian reached for his kindle, Pikachu snatched it out of his grasp and bounded over to the other seat. “Hey. Come on, Pikachu,” Adrian said with slight chuckle as the pokemon lifted the device above his head and excitedly waved it. “We'll be able to continue the story later. Don't worry.”

Adrian made to grasp the kindle again but once more Pikachu pulled it out of reach. Before he could rebuke the pokemon, Adrian saw Pikachu was pointing at one of the words. Leaning over, Adrian read what Pikachu was pointing at. “Moriarty? What about him?” Adrian asked. Pikachu shook his head, pointed at the name again and then pointed at himself.

“Wait...Are you saying you want Moriarty to be your nickname?” At Pikachu's nod, Adrian felt a momentary stab of guilt hit him. With everything that had happened, he had neglected to ask Pikachu if he wanted a nickname. “Alright then,” he said, straightening his posture once more and looking Pikachu in the eye. “Your nickname hence forth is Moriarty. Possibly Arty for short, if you wish.” A serious expression appeared on Pikachu's face as the pokemon gave a solemn nod.

“You do realize you are named after a villain, right? One of the most renowned villains in literary history?” Adrian said with a grin as he placed the kindle back in his bag. “And a real diabolical one at that. He is known as the “Napoleon of Crime” after all. You think you can live up to that?”

An equally mischievous grin stole across Pikachu's face in response. Jumping to his feet, the little yellow pokemon proceeded to throw back his head and attempt, what Adrian had to guess, was an evil laugh. The result was rather hilarious and caused both Adrian and Creed to bust out laughing. Pikachu shot them a disapproving look but it was short lived and soon he was joining the mirth.

The tears of their laughter had barely dried as the train came to gentle stop in Pallet Town station. Gathering his things, Adrian quickly disembarked from the train with Creed and Moriarty in tow. The station was surprisingly packed with people as the trio emerged from the platforms. Most people and pokemon ambled about while others stood in front of the windows and casually conversed with one another. The amount of people packed into the station surprised Adrian. It was the middle of the day but, from what he could tell over the heads of the crowds lingering around the windows, dark storm clouds were marching across the distant horizon. Creed leapt up onto his right shoulder and Moriarty soon followed suit, taking a perch on his left. Both pokemon stared at him in a quizzical fashion.

“Nothing to worry about, guys,” Adrian remarked quietly as he sauntered towards the station's exit. “It looks the weather may not be pleasant for much longer, but, if we move quickly, we'll be able to avoid getting drenched. Besides, I don't think either of you want to stay here.” With Creed's and Moriarty's agreeing nods, Adrian pushed open the doors and stepped out into Pallet Town. The sight that greeted him, however, was not what he expected.

“In the name of all that is Arceus,” Adrian muttered as he surveyed the scene before him. “What the hell happened here?”

Pallet was a town plagued with chaos. Bulbasaurs, Squirtles, and Charmanders stampeded through the streets with their kin. Hordes of the starters were devouring the food left unattended at booths of the farmers market that lined the street while even more were dashing down joining alleyways. The flames from the Charmanders' tails danced in contrast to the quickly darkening sky and lit up the avenue. A small group of people dressed in various states of wet, muddy, ripped, or burnt lab coats scrambled after the starters. Aside from them, no other people lingered in the streets.

Startled and a little bit fascinated by the pandemonium before him, Adrian almost didn't notice the Charmander that had stopped directly in front of him. The fire pokemon's gaze held a spark of challenge as it sized Adrian up. Refusing to break eye contact, Adrian hesitantly watched the pokemon. He didn't want to be the one to make the first move. If he did, the Charmander might perceive his action as a threat and attack. Although Adrian was pretty calm overall, Creed was a different story. The Snivy's claws clenched into Adrian's shoulder as his entire body went taunt. Moriarty, on the other hand, leapt off Adrian's other shoulder and took a position between Adrian and the Charmander. Crouching low to the ground, the Pikachu issued a low growl of warning.

“Arty...” Adrian said softly, but he quickly fell quiet as the Charmander growled back. Before he could attempt to defuse the situation, the fire starter lunged with a mighty cry. There was nothing he could do. He had no time to react. Bracing himself for the hit, Adrian closed his eyes and quickly raised his arms to block his face from the searing flames he expected to come next. A bubbling sort of laughter was the only thing to greet him. Dropping his arms slightly and opening his eyes, Adrian watched as the Charmander simply guffawed at him before traipsing off after his kin. Lowering his arms completely, Adrian shared a confused look with Moriarty while he reached around behind him to dislodge Creed who was tenaciously clinging on Adrian's back.

“This is complete havoc,” Adrian commented quietly as he surveyed the chaos once more. “Judging by the pokemon and people running around, I'm going to surmise that something happened at the town's lab. And it is safe to say that the humans are overwhelmed and outgunned. They could use all the help they could get.” His pokemon companions gave Adrian an eager grin, Moriarty's a bit more enthusiastic than Creed's. With his own keen smirk in place, Adrian adjusted his bag on his shoulder and offered Creed a comforting pat before he set off to find one of the frazzled lab assistants. “Let's see what sort of aid we can lend, shall we?”

Kit's Trainer Card

She readjusted her coat when a male her age roughly, walked over in front of the lab. She looked at him and gave him a bright smile and a quick peace sign.

"I just got on the scene myself. I'd be a fool not to ask for help, but I want to make sure you're prepared for it. She moved her green goggles over her equally green glasses.

"How's your aim? We have a few net blasters, you just aim and pull the trigger. It's good for catching the water and grass types that escaped but be careful with the charmanders because they'll just set the net on fire." she explained. "Do you think you can help with a surprise assault. I can lead them to where you're shooting to try to round them up. What do you say?" she asked.

Two people were better than one that was for sure.

"Afterwards I'm going to do a sweep of the area to figure out what happened, and what was the cause of this catastrophe." she told the assistants that were gathered around the area.

They all seemed grateful and stayed out of the way for now.

"Oh, the name is Kit by the way." she used her thumb to point at herself.

Adrian stared down at the gun shaped object Kit had thrust into his hand. Although he had always preferred and was more skilled with a blade, Adrian wasn't completely ignorant when it came to firearms. Thank God he hadn't skipped out of hunting classes in high school. The "gentleman sport" had never really held his interest like fencing had but at least he had learned the basics of gun safety, maintenance, and firing, so the class hadn't been a complete waste of time. Plus, he had always enjoyed his time on the firing range. He nodded as he listened intently to her plan. When he had decided to enlist his aid, he never really expected this but he wasn't going to back out.

"Thank you, Miss Kit," Adrian said calmly as he offered her his hand with a warm smile. "My name is Adrian." Feeling a nudge against his leg, Adrian gestured towards each of his pokemon in turn, saying, "And my companions are Creed and Moriarty. We're happy to help in any way that we can." His smile took on a mischievous glint as he couldn't resist to add, "Is is customary to hand someone you just met a weapon of sorts? I'm afraid I can't return the sentiments."

The distinct rumble of thunder in the distance brought his attention back to the matter at hand. The storm clouds mounting the horizon were already starting to churn as the winds began to stir in kind. That storm was going to be serious and the idea of trying to track, let alone safely catch, the pokemon running amok in the squall was daunting. The quicker they could complete this task, the safer it would be for people and pokemon alike.

"My aim should be satisfactory and a surprise assault would be the best tactic in this situation. And if you would like my assistance afterward, I would be more than willing to help you uncover what induced this dilemma." Taking in the styler gripped in her hand, he added, "As a Ranger, where do you think would yield the best result for our ambush? I'm new to Pallet Town, as it were."

"I guess that's how it is today." she laughed a bit. "Afterwords we'll break it down with a fist bump for our victory, and proper hello. Sound good." she smiled. "Moriarty huh, sounds seedy, but if you help me find the culprit I'll just take the name as your love for fine literature." she smiled knowingly.

I'll do my best to round them up, in one spot for you to net them. She looked up at the storm.

"The charmanders are going to have very bad time....Well this is my Flurry Vervain, I'll introduce you to the rest of the pack later, oh and this is Sage." She used her thumb to point at the pidgey on her shoulder.

With that she skated off to try to round up enough bulbasaur and squirtle for Adrian to capture in a net, but soon left him to his devices while she went after the charmanders feeling pressured because of the rain.

Adrian chuckled as Kit mentioned Moriarty's name. He appreciated the fact that she caught on to where the Pikachu's name originated. It proved that she was more than a pretty face and that she had good taste to boot. He bowed his head with a grin as she acknowledged 'fine literature.'

"To be honest, I'm not to be blamed for his name. Well, not entirely. He chose his own nickname," he said as he watched a cocky smile spread across Moriarty's face. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Vervain and Sage."

Adrian gave her a slight salute as she skated off only to realize that she hadn't really answered his question. Where was he suppose to go for the ambush? Glancing around, Adrian finally shrugged before sauntering off in the opposite direction. She seemed to know the town well enough that she could track him down, if need be.

"If she needs us, she'll catch up to us," Adrian responded as he spied Creed's confused expression. "We don't have time to waste. That storm will be upon us soon. I'm going to assume she'll track down the charmanders since they are in the most danger. With those skates, she should be able to find them in little time. So that will leave the others to us." Upon hearing that they wouldn't have to tangle with the charmanders, Adrian noticed Creed relax considerably while Moriarty didn't seem to care.

"Alright, guys. Let's go," Adrian said as sprinted off down one of the alleys with Creed and Moriarty on his heels.

Kit's Trainer Card

She skated around herding the pokemon together. As she did so she saw a charmander in the group.

"Shoot! Look little one you'll burn up the end so I can't have you here I'm sorry! Capture on!" she shouted as she pulled on her stylus. She waved her arm around and a ring appeared around the panicked charmader. He calmed down and ran away from the group realizing he was in the way.

"Thank you! Can you tell the other charmanders to go back to the lab for me thank you."
"Char char!" the charmander ran to talk to the others to calm them down before the rain.

"Hey Adrian! Get ready!" she shouted.

A few squirtle veered off and Sage swooped down to stop them. The bird pokemon looked up at Moriarty with a hopeful gaze hoping the pokemon could quickly heard the group back towards the bigger group that was heading for Adrien who had the net.

Deep breath, hold, and slow exhale. Repeat till you feel steady. Then when you're ready, deep breath and hold. Those words from his hunting instructor flitted through Adrian's mind as he zeroed in his sights. The alley he had decided to set up his little ambush was perfect for the job. Clean of most debris so the net would have nothing to get snagged on, narrow enough so that a large group of pokemon would have to funnel down the path, and no side alleys for his targets to use as escape. With the wind blowing against his face, carrying his scent downwind, Adrian hunkered down in the lingering shadows on the top of a fire escape and awaited his cue to get ready from Moriarty who was positioned on the roof above serving as lookout. Creed had been sent ahead in order to scout out some Bulbasaurs they had spotted meandering through the area. A single trash can lid lay in the middle of the alleyway. It served as a marker for Adrian. As soon as the first Bulbasaur stepped on it, Adrian would fire a net that would zip off down the way and snag most of, if not all, the group of pokemon. A few more minutes ticked by before Creed appeared in the entrance of the alley. Sticking to the shadows, the Snivy raced up the fire escape till he landed next to Adrian. Moriarty leapt down and rejoined the group.

“Didn't have any luck, Creed?” Adrian asked as he observed the Snivy's frustrated expression. Creed shook his head and then gestured back down the road where he had just came from. He then pantomimed gobbling up food before shaking his head in irritation. It was then that Adrian realized what the problem might be. He vaguely remembered seeing stalls down that road with a sign that read “Prompt Pomes.” Although the alliteration of a name was a bit misleading, what those stalls sold was clear.

“It's not your fault, Creed,” Adrian said with a warm smile as he patted Creed comfortingly on the back. “I doubt many pokemon could turn down a free smorgasbord of berries. The bonus is that those Bulbasaurs will probably not be moving for a while. The rain certainly isn't going to bother them and...” Adrian trailed off as he heard something further down his alley. Motioning for Moriarty and Creed to follow him, he leapt down from the fire escape and raced deeper down the way.

The narrow lane proved very good at channeling sounds because it wasn't until Adrian and his team almost emerged out the other side of the twisting back street that he could clearly hear Kit yelling for him. Get ready? Uh oh...

Placing his back against one of the buildings that framed the alleyway, Adrian peeked around the corner. Further down pathway he spotted a group of Squirtles running madly as if they were being chased. The telltale sound of skates echoing about the corridor proved that they were being effectively herded down this way. However, as he watched, Adrian spotted a small pack of Squirtles break off from the main group to disappear down one of the side alleys. It was then a small, brown feathered creature dive-bombed out of the sky, causing Adrian to freeze in surprise while both Creed and Moriarty visibly jumped. After a few quick seconds, Adrian was able to identify their swiftly soaring visitor. “Hello Sage,” Adrian said with more calm then he felt. So Kit was indeed the one behind this stampede. Sage's presence all but confirmed that, so then Adrian had better hurry into a suitable position to capture the Squirtles.

Glancing around, Adrian spotted another obscured fire escape that lined up with the alley that the Squirtles were dashing down. He could hear Sage earnestly chirping at his pokemon. He could only surmise what the Pidgey wanted but he had a pretty good guess.

“Moriarty, Creed,” Adrian said as he stashed his bag behind a trash can. “Go with Sage and help gather up that splinter group of Squirtles. Get them in one area and keep them busy. Once you think you have a good location, Sage, could you please come find me? I'll finish up here and meet up with you to capture that group. Buy me time until then. Go.”

He heard rather then saw his order get carried out as he quickly scaled the fire escape. The sounds of his pokemon racing off with Sage faded as the pounding of the panicked Squirltes' feet flooded the alley as they fled from Kit.

Kit's Trainer Card

She jumped up and rode along the walls of buildings blowing a loud whistles that forced the pokemon to have tunnel vision. They were running down alleyways a few managed to turn into another alley. She looked up at Sage and blasted her whistle three times and Sage took off like a shot. In an instant the bird pokemon dove downwards into the darkened alleyway causing the pokemon to shriek in panic as she forced them back to rejoin the group. Then the bird went back to her perch watching them steadily, and waiting for the three whistles if they got too far out of line.
Kit looked up at the rain. At this rate she'd start sinking into mud if she wasn't careful.
Kit jumped again trying to stay on the buildings. She didn't have her father tech to defy gravity but it'd have to do for now. She jumped down onto a dumpster to jump back onto a building then onto the building across from it.
She looked forwards and could see Adrian's shadow, she'd have to get the pokemon to stop but she wasn't sure if Sage could do it on her own. She whistled twice and tried to get the attention of Sage. Sage dove from the top of the building and swooped down at them in an angelic yet terrifying dive bomb, she pulled up at the last second forcing them all to look to the skies, some however kept rushing forwards and would need extra convincing. She perched on the building she dove from and thought of diving again.

~Meanwhile~

Although Sage had managed to drive the majority of the group that had separated from the pack back into the horde, a few of the turtle pokemon proved to be a bit more stubborn. When Sage had dove down from the sky to wrangle the group, a smaller crew ducked under the diving bird and raced away, further down the alley. It was this group that Creed and Moriarty were now tracking.

“Do we have a plan for this,” Moriarty asked as he and Creed nimbly clambered up to the rooftops where they could easily track the soaring Sage as he led them towards the dissenting group of Squirtles.

“I don't have one but I'm open to ideas,” Creed responded. “All I know is that we're not allowed to hurt them,” he added with a side look.

“What? What's that look for? I wasn't planning anything of the sort,” Moriarty said quickly. When Creed's look didn't relent, he add quietly, “Well, nothing that bad. And you have to admit beating them would make this mission go a lot quicker.”

“True, but Adrian might get in trouble if too much harm came to these pokemon. Do you really want to cause problems for Adrian?”

“No, of course not. He was the only human to ever really care about me and was willing to give me a shot when I know others would have probably had me captured or worse. I'm just trying to keep our options open,” Moriarty stated as he and Creed slid to a stop on the rooftop directly below where Sage was circling. Peering over the edge, they watched their targets wander down the alley.

“Looks to be about ten in total,” Creed whispered.

“They don't seem to know where they are going,” Moriarty added as he watched the group nervously glance around.

“That's not surprising. They are starters after all. They probably spent most of their life in a lab waiting for a trainer to pick them.”

“So what you're saying is they are pretty naive? Well, that works to our advantage. Wait...Aren't you a starter? How do you know so much?”

“I learned a lot from eavesdropping on the professor and the assistants. Also that night you were recovering in the pokecenter, Adrian read to me any book I brought him. He showed me maps, answered my questions as best he could, and explained a lot of things.”

“That makes sense,” Moriarty said with a nod, “but do you have any idea on how to deal with them?”

“I'm not sure. Luckily they already wandered down a narrow alley so that helps. And it appears like there is only one small side alley so as long as we don't let them dart down that or get past us into the bigger street we have the advantage.”

The two fell silent as they quietly trailed the slow moving group. The Squirtles did appear to be completely lost and judging by the snippets of their conversation, that was carried up by the sweeping wind to Creed and Moriarty, it was clear that they were trying to find their way back to the main avenue. The ever growing growl of thunder caused most of the Squirtles to flinch as they shuffled along. But they were water types, weren't they? What did they have to fear from a little rain...

Realization dawned as a mischievous smile stole across Moriarty's lips. “Hey, Creed. You're afraid of fire, right?”

“What? No, I'm not! Where would you get that ridiculous idea?” Creed asked, looking a little guilty and more than a bit nervous.

“Because I couldn't help but notice how you reacted to that Charmander when we first got here.”

“Oh...You saw that, huh?”

“It wasn't hard to spot.”

“Fine,” the Snivy gave a frustrated sigh, “Yeah, I'm a little nervous around fires but what do you want from me? I'm a grass type. Fires are bad news for...Oh! I see what you're saying. But remember that we can't hurt them.”

“Much. We can't hurt them much. Besides we might only have to rough up one of them for the others to fall in line. And that's only if my plan doesn't work.”

“What do you have in mind?”

“Oh, you'll know when it happens. Just stay out of sight. Can you go down there and cover me?”

“Sure but don't take too long. They're almost to that side alley.”

“I won't let them get that far. Wait in that offshoot in case they try.”

Creed nodded before he dove off the roof and skirted down the side of the building, sticking to the shadows as he went. He was all but invisible except for the slight touches of emerald that would glimmer off his scales. Moving quickly, Moriarty motioned for Sage to come down. He filled the Pidgey in with his plan and asked him to lead Adrian up through the alley that would put him behind the Squirtle group. With any luck and if the plan worked like he hoped, the Squirtles wouldn't even notice the human before it was too late.

After Sage gave a nod and flew off, Moriarty took a steady breath. Timing was key in order for this to work. Peering back over the edge, he watched the Squirtle group amble a bit further down the lane, drawing closer to the fork in the alley. His cheeks began to faintly glow as he gathered a charge while he waited. Four more steps...Three...Two...Now! On that mental count, Moriarty threw a thundershock down at the squad of Squirtles. Luckily his aim was true and the bolt crashed harmlessly into the pavement directly in front of the group and before the entrance to the side path, briefly brightening up the alley and emitting a resounding crack. The Squirtles stood frozen in the middle of the alley as thunder rolled overhead. Huddled close together, they visibly shook as a collective shutter passed through them.

Moriarty hardly noticed because he was focusing more on what was occurring overhead. The black clouds had already broken through the horizon's levee and had spilled like ink across the sky. A sly smile crossed Moriarty's face as he watched light arced and flashed through the blanket of clouds. He only had seconds to get this right. There wasn't time for hesitation. Using a form he had once witnessed humans doing on a broad suspended high above a pool of water, Moriarty took a running leap off the rooftop. At the height of his jump, he quickly angled himself into a dive and threw down another thundershock in the exact same spot as before while angling his tail straight towards the sky. Air around his tail tingled and Moriarty couldn't help but smile before he closed his eyes against the binding flash of light that enveloped him as a lightening bolt struck his tail and, by using him and his thundershock as a guide, scorched the pavement. Having already worked out roughly when he was suppose to hit the ground, Moriarty flipped himself around so he would land on his feet and took on a superhero landing pose, kneeling with one fist on the ground while the other one was raised in the air. He then waited for the light that glared through his eyelids to dim before opening his eyes to turn an intimidating glare onto the cowering clan of turtle pokemon before him.

“You are right to tremble before me,” Moriarty growled, dropping the pitch of his voice to sound more menacing. A smirk curling his lips as he rose to his full height, Moriarty continued boastfully, “But consider yourselves blessed by my presence, you meager water pokemon. For I, Rathe, the Lord of Lightning, have deemed you worthy to hear my words.” The thunder that cracked and rolled above added an impressive flair to Moriarty's proclamation.

For a long moment, no one moved. Moriarty wasn't even sure if his audience breathed. The squirtles stared at him with a mixture of awe and fear as they clustered even closer together and collectively stumbled back. All except for one squirtle who pulled himself from the grasping clutches of his kin to meet Moriarty's glare head-on. Stepping forward, the squirtle squared its shoulders and unflinchingly barked, “The Lord of Lightning? You look like a normal Pikachu to me.”

Moriarty's sneer grew and a glint entered his eyes. He had successfully drew out the leader of the group with his performance. Once he had this one believing his rouse or lying defeated in the gutter, the others would fall in line easily. “Of course, you ignorant fool,” Moriarty laughed, “If I were to appear before you in my true form, you all would have died from fright.”

The squirtle leader's eyes narrowed. “I don't believe you,” he announced confidently. Moriarty could feel the squirtle sizing him up as the turtle took a deliberate step forward and then another until the group leader was marching toward him. “Now get out of our way.”

This banter had gone on long enough. Moriarty could already see some of the confidence returning to the other squirtles' eyes as they watched their brother advance further along the alley. A flash of green glinting from the gloom of the side alley out of the corner of his eye also told Moriarty that Creed was in place. Bidding his time until the squirtle captain was close enough, Moriarty struck with dazzling speed and precision. Once the squirtle was within range, Moriarty dropped down low and spun about, using his tail to slap the water pokemon directly in the face. Stunned by this sudden attack, the squirtle staggered to a stop but before he could react, Moriarty struck again. He jumped back up to his full height and wrapped both hands firmly around the turtle pokemon's neck. With an aggressive pull and an icy sneer, Moriarty slammed his forehead into the squirtle's. Although his world spun, Moriarty forced his vision to clear as he lifted up the dazed squirtle and threw him down the side alley, out of the bewildered gaze of the rest of the squirtle troop.

“How dare you defy me!” Moriarty roared into the shadows of the side alley. “Now face my wrath!” Gathering up his energy, he hurled a thundershock into the gloom and hoped his attack went over Creed's and the squirtle's heads. The echoing crack of his attack mixed with the boom of thunder overhead as Moriarty turned his attention back to the once again cowering squirtle squad. “Any one else wish to challenge me?” he said with a icy glint in his eye and cruel smile curling his lips.

~Meanwhile~

This alley wasn't as ideal as his last one but one couldn't always choose their battlegrounds. Besides opportunity had a habit of favoring the bold as well as the prepared. A slight smirk crossed Adrian's lips as he readied the gun and aimed down the alley towards the oncoming Squirtles. Using a torn poster that adorned one of the walls as a marker, he took his steadying breath and then fired. The loud bang from the gun was the only thing that herald the large swift net that sprang forth and quickly covered the entire Squirtle bevy.

Leaping down from his perch, Adrian rushed in and secured the net ends before any could wiggle free. With a victorious smile brightening his face, Adrian turned towards Kit but before he could speak a brown streak dropped from the sky, causing him to nearly jump. Sage urgently chirped at him, the bird's hastily wings fluttering a staccato beat against the rumbling of the encroaching thunder.

“That was quick,” Adrian remarked once he regained his composure. “Thank you, Sage. Lead on.” With that Sage bolted back up into the sky and circled a few times before taking off in a westward direction.

Turning back toward Kit, Adrian pointed down the alley that lead the way Sage had went. “Our pokemon have tracked down the other Squirtles. I'm going to meet up with them and capture that lot. I'm not sure what you want done with this bundle of Squirtles but right now I have to go. Oh, and there is a group of Bulbasaurs feasting on berries at the end of this alley,” Adrian added over his shoulder as he sprinted off after Sage.

“Oh my Arceus, he killed Lenny!” one of the squirtles yelled as the whole group staggered back from Moriarty. Their terror was palpable in their gulping breathes and darting stares. They were completely trapped in the alley, with the only viable escape route directly behind them. Moriarty was confident they wouldn't attempt a rush for the side alley because that would force them in close quarters with him. After witnessing the surmised fate of their friend, none of them would dream of drawing close to the alleged Lord of Lightning.

The thought that he might have pushed them too far did cross Moriarty's mind but they hadn't bolted yet and he couldn't turn back now. Got to take charge of the group before they stampede off. “Hear me, you feeble water pokemon,” Moriarty commanded. “Do not frustrate me more and I'll mean you no further harm.” Silence reigned for a long moment. Neither side moved except for the occasionally nervous twitches from the squirtles. Were things spiraling out of control? Was this the cusp of chaos? Should Moriarty advance or stay put? He couldn't tell! He didn't know!

Before his conviction could slip further, a tentative voice echoed off the walls of the alley. “Wha...What do you want of us, Lord Rathe?” Moriarty's gazed zeroed in on the speaker, a squirtle at the front of the group. Although he visibly quivered, the squirtle held himself upright and his words were meek but clear. The other squirtles appeared to take heart and adopted a similar more submissive attitude towards Moriarty. A new leader for the squirtle's had emerged from the masses but this one was different. He realized that the only way for his kin to survive was to bow their heads for the time being and go with the flow. Whether they believed his act or not, Moriarty didn't care. He got the one thing he needed: time.

“What I wish is for you to hear my will,” Moriarty said in a peremptory but gentler tone. “Heed my words.”

“And what is that, Master Rathe, Lord of Lightning?”

“I have but one thing to say to you,” Moriarty said as his keen ears picked up the soft but tell-tale click of a gun being cocked. Looking up, a warm smile crossed his face as he spied a familiar shadow standing behind his captivated audience, the dwindling light of the storm glinting off the chrome barrel of the net gun.

Returning his eyes back to the squirtles, Moriarty's smile took on a devilish hint as he said, “And this is it. Behold squirtles! The word from the Lord of Lightning is: SIKE!”

With that final word leaving his lips at a yell, Moriarty dove into the side alley. Milliseconds later the bang from the net gun ricocheted off the walls.
