  `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸♥ Kate was sitting a bit far from everyone,it's not like she had someone to talk to. The kids were busy with each other and the adults were chatting,no one bothered Kate which was good because she could relax and rest a bit. Suddenly she heard a song that she knew 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough',this song was really good. Somehow it always cheered Kate's mood.She decided to put her phone away,glancing at the crowd of people.Suddenly she noticed Nick and Lily dancing together,both of them were having fun together! Her lips curled into a small smile and without realizing it,Kate couldn't stop looking at Nick. She noticed another good thing about him; he's good with children. So why did Danielle said that he's the kind of guy you date before you find the right guy? Nick was the right guy,even though he slept with women but he probably got hurt from his ex wife and that's how it started.She sipped her lemonade and watched Nick quietly.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

They danced and sang right into the next song, both of them having a wonderful time together. Lily noticed how Kate was looking at Nick and as he was in the midst of singing a really fast verse, she slapped her hand over his mouth. "Shut up and go ask your girlfriend to dance," she demanded. Nick only licked her hand and she made a cute yet disgusted face saying, "ew you're so gross!!" she wiped her hand all over his face and Nick chuckled. "Who's my girlfriend now?" he asked. "Kate, you big dummy. Go ask her to dance right now." she narrowed her eyes and folded her tiny arms across her chest, giving him a cold look. "Okay, fine... god, you're so bossy.." he half-mumbled, putting her back down on her feet. Her mini heels made a little click against the hardwood floor.
He kept his head hung low as he made his way over to Kate who was standing at the counter, drinking lemonade by herself. Lily decided to take it upon herself to change the song to something slow, and she knew the perfect song. Awkwardly, he placed his hands on the counter in front of Kate and peered up at her a bit. "Do you, um.." he began, looking over at Lily a bit who at the moment had his phone in her hand as she stared right back at him. He flinched a little. "Do you want to dance?" he finally finished, this time meeting Kate's blue eyes with his own.

Her foot tapped the ground with the rhythm of the music,from time to time she glanced back at her phone to see if she got any messages from Frankie but he was probably busy with his own job. Suddenly she noticed that someone was walking towards her so she raised her head to see Nick. Kate quickly glanced to the sides to see if someone else was here but she was the only one there and he walked towards her,she felt nervous suddenly. Her bright blue eyes looked at him when he asked if she wanted to dance,raising her eyebrow slightly. Kate became a bit confused until she saw Lily,so the birthday girl wanted them to dance."I guess we have no choice,do we?" She smiled a little then lowered her eyes,taking his hand gently."Let's go dance." Kate felt a bit nervous,she had no idea what she should say to him but she tried to act normal even though she looked nervous.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

"Nope... she rules with an iron fist.." he gave a nervous chuckle. The pair walked hand in hand to the floor and Nick let go to slide his arm around her waist as he drew her gently closer to him. He waited until she put her arms around his neck before he put his other hand on her waist. Just then, Everlong began to play and he felt his heart skip a beat. This was the song he had sung to her that night a few weeks back. It was tough for him, listening to it after the events that had unfolded yesterday. Yet still, something deep inside of him made him wrap his strong arms around her tiny waist. He bent his head down some and placed a soft kiss against her shoulder, and then one on the crook of her neck. The two swayed slowly and all Lily could do was smile lovingly. And the guests were too busy eating to notice what was going on.

Kate looked at Nick before she slowly lowered her head down and placed her hands around his neck gently,feeling his touch made her heart beat faster.The blonde raised her head when she heard the familiar song,it was the same song that Nick sang to her a few week ago.."This song.." Kate spoke quietly,to tell the truth it was a bit awkward because of what happened yesterday. As they slowly dance,Kate couldn't help but grip his shirt a bit tightly.She didn't want to let go,she wanted to stay like this forever.Her eyes slightly widened when she felt his lips touching her shoulder before he moved to the crook of her neck. Kate's cheeks flushed pink before she apologized to Nick."I'm sorry I slapped your cheek..and yelled at you.." She slowly lowered her head down to look at the ground,taking a deep breath.Kate felt bad for yelling at him like that,it's not like they were a couple but she had feelings from him,strong feelings.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

Nick nodded his head knowingly after Kate came to recognize the song. "He sings it much better than I do, eh?" he gave a soft chuckle. Dave Grohl's voice was heavenly and just all kinds of amazing. Nick felt her grip onto his shirt and he tightened his arms around her ever so slightly. His blue eyes opened up after she apologized... all for the wrong reasons. He pressed his lips together before bringing an index finger to lift up her chin to meet her beautiful eyes. "I don't care that you yelled at me.. what ticked me off the most was hearing the s**t you went telling Danielle. How I'm the kind of guy you date before you find the ideal guy, that's what you said right?" his intense gaze twitched between her eyes. "What kind of guy do you think I am?"

Kate really felt bad for yelling at Nick,she hurt him physically and probably emotionally too. Suddenly Nick placed his index finger under her chin before he lifted it lightly,her bright eyes looked up into his beautiful blue eyes.Kate stayed quiet and listened to him,slowly her eyebrows furrowed.She became confused from what Nicholas told her."Wait.." The sh*t she went telling Danielle about him? That's not that she said! Danielle was the one who told her that but how..Kate blinked and averted her eyes,trying to realize what was going on. First,Danielle spoke to her and "warned" her about Nick. She was the one who told Kate that Nick is that kind of guy you date before you find the ideal guy but now Nick was saying that Kate was the one who said it! Then she remembered how Danielle looked at her when she kissed Nick,slowly everything became clear to Kate. Danielle was trying to break their relationship! "That little skank.." He heard Kate call Danielle a little skank and he shook his head, loosening his grip on her a bit. "Don't go calling Danielle names when you're the one who let it slip. All she was trying to do was be a good friend and in a way I'm kind of glad she told me everything rather then letting me go on believing something fiction." his tone was annoyed and it matched what he was feeling perfectly. Nick was more than annoyed and definitely hurt that Kate of all people would go as far as questioning his intentions with their relationship. He also averted his eyes and slid his hands back to her waist, putting a bit of distance between them as they continued to slow dance. Lily saw the sudden change in Nick's expression and she frowned a little, unhappy. He thought about Danielle's words and once again, he was put in a bad mood. "Y'know, I really thought we had something going.." he finally said in a hushed tone, gazing back down at the girl.

Her expression changed,she looked hurt and sad."No..You don't understand Nick." Kate tried to speak but then Nick told her that he thought that they had something going..Her bright wide eyes looked up at him."That's not true..I mean..we had..I wasn't lying." Kate was a bit shocked,how could Danielle do something so cruel? "Danielle is a liar,she t-.." Before she could tell the truth,Danielle pushed Kate slightly away and wrapped her arms around Nick.Her body was pressed against Nick before she glanced at Kate with a devilish smirk."Nick,I also want to dance with you." When Danielle looked up at Nick,her expression was innocent and sweet.How could Kate tell him the truth like that? "Kate,go help the staff in the kitchen." She waved her hand then turned back to Nick,swaying her body slowly.Kate was pushed away easily,she looked at Danielle with unbelievable expression. Kate actually thought that they were friends but Danielle fooled her. Without a word,Kate turned her head away and walked to the kitchen,once she entered to the kitchen she saw that it was empty. Danielle lied to her just so she could dance with Nick! He only shook his head when Kate tried to lie her way out of the situation, looking away from her. "No, I understand completely. I'm not good enough for you, I get it. I'm sorry I'm not the ideal guy, Kate. Really." he was talking over her by this point and just then, she was shoved gently away by Danielle who put her arms around his neck and pressed her body against his. He watched as Kate walked away and Danielle put her hand on his cheek and turned his head. "Don't worry about her, okay?" she said sweetly, running her fingers through his short brown hair. Her innocent smile brought him some reassurance and he gave a small smile of his own as he nodded his head. Danielle got on her tip toes and pecked his cheek, right on the small wound that Kate had given him yesterday.
About half an hour later, Nick was with Lily and some of her friends playing a game of go-fish. He wore a party hat and had pink and purple streamers in his hair thanks to the children. The seven were sitting on the floor, Nick cross legged with Lily sitting on his lap since they were a duo team. He had his arms put around her waist and was whispering things in her ear, telling her what to do and what not to do with the cards so they could win. It was soon their turn. "Alright, we have two fives so put them down. Ask Danny for a queen." he whispered. Lily did as she was directed to do. "Danny, do you have a queen?" she asked sweetly, and the little boy groaned before throwing a queen their way. "This isn't fair! You're getting his help!" the chubby boy folded his arms across his chest. "I'm the birthday girl and I can do what I want." she stated matter-of-factly, and Nick couldn't help but hold back a laugh at her sass. "Fine.." the kid grumbled.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸♥ The sad part was the Nicholas didn't even try to listen to her,he was telling her that he's not good enough for her but that wasn't true! He didn't even let her explain and then Danielle pushed Kate away,Kate became angry and upset but what could do? Nothing...There's no way Nick will listen to her,she knew that Danielle was close to Nick so he would belive her. In the end,Kate decided to stay away from everyone. She tried to keep herself busy with the phone,texting her father that missed to her and Frankie who could text her back.
After some time,Kate decided to eat something sweet so she walked over to the big table and noticed that there weren't any cupcakes. Everyone ate the cupcakes which was good so she decided to get another tray of cupcakes for everyone. She walked back to the kitchen and opened the fridge,luckily there were a lot of cupcakes so Kate placed them on a tray and carried them to the table.Danielle noticed Kate and had another idea,she knew that Kate would probably try to talk to Nick and tell him the truth. That's why she decided to stop her.While Kate was walking,she moved past her and placed her foot in Kate's way.Sadly,Kate didn't pay any attention so she easily tripped over the food and fell down,the tray fell onto the floor before her face crashed into the cupcakes. There was a loud thud noise so probably everyone turned their attention to Kate.Danielle was the only one around Kate so she decided to act innocent because people would know that she was the one who did it."Oh my god,Kate..Are you ok? You poor little thing.." She covered her mouth with her hand and made a fake sad expression. Kate slowly sat up on her knees and blinked,all of her face was covered in colorful cream. She used her hands wipe the cream off her face,glancing at Danielle for a moment before she lowered her head down. Her dress and jacket were ruined,her face and hair was filled with cream.Great,Kate looked like a total mess and everyone saw it! How embarrassing.♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

"Cupcakes!" he heard a squeaky voice exclaim, and the kids began to gather around the table once more. Nicholas looked over at Kate just to see Danielle lift her foot and Kate topple over, landing face first into the platter of pink, purple and white cupcakes. Everyone went silent except for Lily. "Kate! Are you okay??" the little girl hopped off Nick and ran over, holding her arm as if to help her stand up. Nick pressed his lips together into a firm line across his face as he too stood up and began to help Kate to her feet. His big hand wrapped around her upper arm gently and the other was placed on the small of her back. "Go into the kitchen and clean yourself up, okay? Don't worry about the mess." his voice was low and hushed, and he met her eyes briefly before showing a faint yet reassuring smile.
Just that one little move made by Danielle was enough to show her true colours and he realized that Kate had not lied to him when tried to speak to him earlier. Lily reached up and took Kate's hand. "I'll help you clean up, Kate." the brunette showed a small smile before she walked her back into the women's restroom. Nicholas let out a sigh as he looked back down at the mess of squashed cupcakes before placing his hands on his hips and lifting his gaze to look at Danielle, who immediately lowered her gaze. He averted his eyes momentarily to look at the crowd, clapping his gads together. "Apologies in regards to the mess, folks. Another batch will be ready soon." the kids chanted hearing that. Nick looked to Joseph and didn't even have to ask him for help; he just nodded his head and showed a thumbs up and then made his way back into the kitchen.
"We need to talk." he spoke as he strode towards Danielle, grabbing her by the wrist harshly and made his way out the doors. He suddenly turned on her. "What the ******** was that?!" he yelled, standing outside one of the windows of the restaurant. Like a guilt-stricken puppy, the blonde lowered her gaze and folded her arms under her chest. "I don't know.. I just..." she sighed. "I don't know, I just-" he mimicked "grow the ******** up! By pulling that little stunt in there, you ruined Lily's birthday party. You ruined a four year old girls birthday party. I hope you're ******** happy with yourself, Danielle. You know, Kate put a lot of effort-"
"Shut up about Kate! Just shut up! God, I am so sick and tired of hearing about the b***h! Ever since she started working here, the world has been revolving around Kate!! The staff loves her and now you do too.." the last part came out in a voice just above a whisper. They stayed silent for a moment, Nick letting out an unamused chuckle. "So that's what it is, huh? You unloaded all of those tremendous lies on me yesterday because you got a little jealous." the blonde stayed silent, tears slowly filling her blue eyes. "You know what? Yeah, I love Kate. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me, Danielle. The best thing that's ever happened to me. And I thought you were my friend, I thought you were at least going to support me because that's what friends do, right?" he asked rhetorically. He shook his head and placed his hands on his hips, looking down at the ground. "Just go home." he muttered, and she gave a shaky nod of her head before stalking off down the sidewalk. Her makeup had stained her cheeks, she was crying so much.
Nicholas stayed there for a moment, jaw tensed and eyebrows furrowed. Suddenly he was in desperate need of a cigarette. He pulled the packet out from his jeans pocket and stuck one in between his lips, lighting it up with a few flicks of his lighter.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸♥ The kids were getting excited because of the cupcakes that Kate was about to bring but after what Danielle did,everyone became silent.Lily was the first one who reacted and helped Kate."I'm fine.." She mumbled quietly,trying to remove the cream from her face.She felt bad for ruining the cupcakes but luckily there were still a few more cupcakes in the fridge. Nick also walked up to her and helped her to stand up,Kate slowly got up on her feet.Her knees were red from the fall,feeling a slight pain but it will be fine. Her brght blue eyes looked up at Nick who told her to go to the kitchen and clean herself,she nodded her head quietly then looked down at Lily who offered her help.Smiling gently to the smal girl.
Kate walked together with Lily until they entered into the restroom. The first thing she did was to washed her face in the water,some of the makeup was ruined but it was worth it. Then Lily and Kate cleaned her face with a lot of tissues,making sure to not leave a single stain on her face. Sadly because of the cream,her hair became a bit sticky and wasn't smooth."Thank you for helping me Lily,you can go back to the party."Her smile was gently before she placed a soft kiss on top of Lily's head,once she let go she cleaned her dress until she was clean. After that she headed to the kitchen,knowing that no one would be there. Kate decided to fix her looks,she removed the jacket and stayed in the white dress that was a bit stained.
Kate felt like she ruined the whole party but she knew it was Danielle's fault,why did she even try to do that? Kate never tried to do something bad to her..She was afraid to go outside because everyone saw how she fell but she had to find Nick and talk to him. Kate exited from the kitchen and searched for Nick,she couldn't find him anywhere! Where could he be? He wasn't at the table nor at the kitchen nor his office..♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

He took a few long drags, tipping his head back a bit at the head rush that he had learned to love over the years. Jamie had always hated that he smoked. She was constantly telling him that he should quit and that she doesn't want to sit on his hospital bed while he died of lung cancer. Nick didn't care. He just did what he wanted. The man slowly exhaled the thick smoke through his slightly parted lips, eyes gazing off into the distance at nothing in particular. After a few more puffs, he felt the heat reaching his finger tips and he let the butt fall to the ground, stubbing it out with the toe of his shoe.
With his hands tucked into the jeans of his pockets, Nick walked back into the restaurant and grabbed a big white garbage bag for the mess on the floor. His mouth tasted of cigarettes and he knew his breath would smell too. Before he began to clean up, he grabbed a couple sticks of minty gum off one of the parents in the room and stuck them in his mouth. The last thing he needed was another guilt-trip from Lily. There was this one time when she was taking a nap on his couch, he went out onto the balcony for a smoke and then she suddenly showed up at the sliding glass door. "Why are you smoking, Uncle Nick? I don't want you to die." she had said, and those sweet words should have been enough for him to just quit right then and there, though he just couldn't. It was tough, especially since he had been addicted since an early age of fifteen.
In a comfortable kneeling position, Nick began to pick up the cupcakes one by one and toss them into the open garbage bag that he held in his opposite hand. "Lily," he called as the little beauty walked past. "Yeah?" she halted momentarily, a lollipop hanging lazily out of the corner of her mouth. She had never looked so adorable than in that moment and it was written all over Nick's face as he looked at her. A warm smile spread across his lips and he cocked his eyebrows. "Do you know where Kate is?" he questioned. The tiny brunette glanced around and shrugged as she shook her head. Nick exhaled quietly before nodding his head once to the girl and resuming the cleanup.
He wasn't lying to Danielle when he had expressed his love for Kate... he truly did love the girl. More than he had ever loved anyone else. She was absolutely perfect, from her blonde hair and hypnotizing blue eyes to her petite frame and amazing personality. She was real, so down to earth and also one of the most attractive qualities he liked in a woman: headstrong. She almost always spoke her mind and for that reason, Nick admired her.

After a few minutes Kate finally decided that Nick was probably at the party with everyone else so she walked back to there,just as she thought.Nick was at the party but he was cleaning the mess Kate made! Her expression became sad as she walked over to him and bent down."Nick,we have to talk." Kate knew that they can't talk in front of everyone because everyone will hear them so Kate just took his hand gently and dragged him into the kitchen. One they were alone,Kate let go of his hand and raised her head.Her bright blue eyes stared at him."I'm really sorry for causing such a mess and ruining Lily's party.."She lowered her head slightly,rubbing her thumbs against each other because she was nervous."I also know that you won't belive me but I was telling the truth..I'm sorry Nick..For everything."♥ ¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´
