Thomas stared at Eden for a moment as she stated she was doing her makeup. There was a hint in her tone that made it clear this should have been obvious. Of course, that hadn’t exactly been what he meant when he’d asked his question. Still, it was probably pointless to reword the question. As she shot a good morning towards him, the healer nodded. “Good morning to you as well.” There was no need to be rude even if he was confused by the current situation.

Receiving a no in response to his question about a possible room mixup just made him slightly more confused. Watching her put on makeup for a few moments, Thomas did his best to not look nearly as confused by the situation as he was. Perhaps it was just him being tired. Maybe he invited her to sleep in his bed for some reason. Either way he didn’t exactly know what else to say on the situation.

Eventually asking her to scoot over so he might use the sink, the doe eyed girl turned to look at him for the first time. At first it seemed like she was going to deny the request, sighing at first in response. Soon enough, however, she agreed to move over, but mentioned that the next time he would have to wait his turn. “I appreciate it, but… Next time?” Maybe he had invited her to his room, the healer would hate to be rude now and rescind the offer, but Thomas hoped Eden didn’t think this was a different situation.

It was around this time that Thomas realized he was still shirtless and left to get on a shirt. Returning, Eden seemed amused by this action, asking him if he was shy, then stating she was enjoying the view. “I just don’t want to give the wrong impression. And I’m not very good with these types of situations… So apologies.” Whatever this situation was.

Still since she had moved over Thomas moved over to the sink to splash some water in his face. Instantly he could feel the sleepiness shocked into oblivion by the action. Reaching for a towel to wipe off his face, her question caused him to turn towards her. Wiping off his face, it only took him a moment to realize she was asking what he thought of her makeup.

Giving her face a once over, Thomas didn’t really see the point in women putting on makeup, but he would never try to talk one out of doing it. Cammi had tried to explain it to him once, but it hadn’t exactly sunk in. “It looks rather well done, but I’m sure you would have looked fine without it.” Noticing she was literally sitting on the air, Thomas stared at her for a few moments longer than he usually would have wondering what it would be like to fly unaided by technology.

Reaching for his toothbrush, he proceeded to put toothpaste on it and begin brushing his teeth before looking at her again. “So what’s that like?” Thomas asked in between brushing and spitting out toothpaste. Gesturing his head to what she was doing, Thomas finished brushing his teeth quickly. As he finished up and wiped his face off with the towel once again, Eden’s suggestion reached his ears causing him to stare at her with a raised eyebrow for a moment.

First she was sleeping beside him in bed, then she was ogling him, and now she was mentioning getting coffee… Did he somehow get a girlfriend and no one told him? Shouldn’t he have had a say on that? “Uh… Sure, I have some time before I was going to head back to the infirmary.” As she silently offered him a drink from her flask, Thomas shook his head. “None for me, but thanks for the offer.” With that said, Thomas moved back towards the rest of his room. “Just give me a moment to get changed into something different.” Some fresh clothes would have been quite nice after all.

Getting dressed quickly after finding some clothes, Thomas returned to the bathroom door and waved his hand out in front of him. “Ladies first, lead the way Eden.” That was polite right?

(OOC: Let me know if I missed anything, or misread anything.)

I will now rise from the ashes.
Don't call me pretentious.
I'm sitting here making my own rules.
And if I fall from the ceiling.
You'll be down there waiting.
And my only hope. Is falling down.

                                                    |721|

"If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well.
Then he's a fool, you're just as well, hope it gives you hell.
I hope it gives you hell.
Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself.
Yeah, where did it all go wrong?
But the list goes on and on."

Things had been relatively boring since getting back from the mission. It had been easy enough to forget they were stuck underground during the excitement of the mission, but once they were back that was an entirely different story. Things fell back into the tedious and boring category and life just inched on. To say Felix hated being imprisoned underground would have been an understatement. There were things here and there that kept him from getting so bored he just left, but there still wasn’t enough excitement.

They should be out doing something. Anything would have been better than this waiting for something to happen. Nothing seemed to hold enough entertainment the longer they were stuck underground. Trying to think up something to do for the rest of the day, Felix decided to take to wandering around their prison in search of anything that looked or sounded even mildly entertaining.

Debating on finding Aren and stirring up some trouble, the man’s silent contemplation was stopped as he reached the library and heard Aurelie’s voice drifting out towards him. She sounded on the verge of being pissed off, which intrigued the man. The blonde was pretty easy going from his experience, so whatever was upsetting her had him curious. Stepping into the library, her being distracted caused him to go pretty unnoticed as he watched her and listened.

Her frustration was visible as she pulled at her hair and breathed out something that sounded like fine, but could have been a curse word for all he knew. Personally he preferred to remember her message with a curse word, it seemed to fit the situation better. As she stated she would do it without permission Felix could practically feel the potential mischief of the situation radiating around the area. This seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up and the perfect way to pass the time.

As she started towards the exit it was easy enough to put himself in her path. She greeted him in a way that made it clear she was curious what he was doing. Nodding his head to her in response, he remained silent, it was as if he was waiting for her to say something. Her quizzical appearance was topped off as she finally asked him if she could help him after a period of silence.

“Well there are always things you can do for me, but I feel rather wounded that you were off to cause mischief and didn’t even think to invite me along for the ride blondie. Here you are just now finally ready to break the rules and I don’t even get a second thought despite being one of the perfect people to sneak you in. But fine, I’ll sneak you in anyway to see your best bestie. You’ll owe me one, naturally, though.” It wasn’t terribly hard to figure out exactly what she had been arguing with Scott about. It could have been in to see Leo, but given what he knew about Aurelie he doubted that was why she wanted to sneak in.

Felix was one of the few that didn’t have an opinion about that whole incident. It didn’t bother him one way or another that Kat had done what she’d done, nor did it bother him that Leo had responded in such a way. It just seemed rather insignificant really. At least it had provided a few moments of intrigue at first.

“If you want a picture to remember my face by, all you had to do was ask blondie.” He spoke in reference to her current staring at him. “What’s the saying? Take a picture it will last longer.” Smiling at her slightly, he held up his finger to tell her to wait while he tuned his comm to Aren. “Yo Tiny, if Scott asks I’ve been with you all morning. Well if anybody does for that matter. Just for reference.” Then turning back towards Aurelie, Felix raised an eyebrow. “Want me to add you to the people he's giving an alibi for? Unless you’d rather stay here and make out for awhile? I’m up for either if you are.” With a wink, Felix waited for her to deny her obvious attraction towards him and choose to go see her friend like the good girl she was.

(OOC: PM me if I missed something.)

"Truth be told I miss you.
And truth be told I'm lying.
                                                    When you see my face.
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell.
                                                    When you walk my way.
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell."

He was barely puffing at the stick, making ash fall lazily onto the work table. He would have to clean it up later. Or just leave it. Between the grease and oil spots, no one would be able to tell.

As the song faded out and AC/DC’s Hells Bells started, he tapped his foot to the music, slowly disassembling the carburetor that was in his hands. As piece after piece came off, he carefully and neatly laid them across a shop rag that had probably seen better days. There were at least half a dozen oil stains and burn holes in the red fabric, but at least it was reliable and about as clean as it could get.

As he eyed the different pieces, something that wasn’t right caught his eye. Letting out a sigh after looking back and forth between the unknown piece and the rest of the parts, he pushed himself off of the stool he had been sitting on for hours. Standing as tall as he could, he stretched onto his tip-toes and reached his arms above his head, feeling his stiff joints pop as they slid into a more comfortable and useful position.

He grabbed the remove for the stereo and shut off the music, dropping the device onto the table along with his tools before walking to the sink. A shop sink was never clean. It was a deep basin that was probably white at some point in time, but years of anti-freeze, brake fluid, oil, and grease stained the white basin with an array of muted colors. Turning on the water, he quickly poured a heavy amount of Gojo in his hands. The soap always smelled nice, and it was rough on his hands, scrubbing away deep encrusted oil in the wrinkles of his palms and around his cuticles.

Once his hands were about as clean as he could get them without taking a long, hot shower, he dried them off and tossed the paper towel into the bin. He took off the button up he kept in the shop that was basically his go-to grease shirt and hung it near the door before leaving the garage. Walking through the base was always interesting. Long hallways reminded him of his time in the military. The different floors, cold lighting.

Finally reaching his destination, he pushed open the door to the library just to catch the tail end of a conversation. He arched a brow before a smirk formed over his lips and he carried himself to where the voices were coming from. Coming up behind the male, August looked over his shoulder at Aurelie, pressing a slender finger to his lip to shush her with a wink.

August’s hand slid across Felix’s shoulders.
“Am I walkin’ in on some secret meeting? And if I am, how do I get in on a piece of the action?” He winked at the man, a sly grin forming over his lips before he circled around the two of them like a panther hunting his prey. “Ya might be wonderin’, what a pretty little thing is doing in a place like this? And I’ll tell ya. There I was, worryin’ my head over this carburetor when I see a piece I ain’t ever seen before. So here I come, out of my natural habitat to find the answer to my own Scooby-Doo mystery when I come across you two making secrets.”

He stopped behind Aurelie, draping his arms over her own and resting his head on her shoulder lightly.
“But even I have to admit, hearin’ you call her blondie makes me wanna hold ya down while she beats the piss outta ya. Even if that ain’t the way I’d want to pin ya down on a regular day, Felix.” And with that, August gave the man another sly grin and a wink.

'Cause finding what you got sometimes

Raine jointed the native watching television, taking a seat in a chair not far from where he was sitting on the couch. He pointed out how long it had been since the two of them had spent any significant amount of time together, the brunette blaming their busy schedules. He agreed with her, also teasing her about her course load and penchant for reading.

She didn't have the heart to tell him that it was because she couldn't stand the thought of his spending time with Narcissa, or the tortures that the blonde loved inflicting on her for "polluting" her precious Omegas. She couldn't tell him that she had been ashamed of (some) of her behavior at Prom when they had gone together, and couldn't even bear to look him in the eye at first. Better he think her simply a b***h than admit the truth - the Omega leader had won that battle.

"Hey, keeping my nose in those books is going to get my butt into Yale. You could stand to spend a little more time studying, my lackadaisical friend. You and Felix," she responded in a cheeky tone, shooting him a sideways grin. It never ceased to astonish her the inventive ways that the two boys could invent to get out of her tutoring offers and attempts to get them to take their grades seriously. It took a lot of work on their part to keep from working.

She also used the amount of missions they had been going on lately as another excuse for their inability to connect, Aren adding on the training that came with the field missions. It was a never-ending cycle, the brunette picking up on his tone and facial expression to understand that the last Omega mission hadn't exactly been a walk in the park either. She could only offer him a small smile, the pair turning their attentions back to the television set. She knew only too well that these last missions had not gone as planned, even if she had not heard the details of their red and black counterparts.

Aren explained the show they were watching, Raine suppressing a laugh as he explained that it was necessary for him to be able to play video games with Cammi. It was clear where his priorities were, and she couldn't help but chuckle at it. He briefly explained the plot and what she had missed so far, praising the concept.

"Well, it definitely sounds better than that," she responded when he told her about the first show she tried to make him watch. An animated high school club show sounded...awful. Didn't they get enough drama being they actually were in high school, surrounded by students with extraordinary powers? They didn't spend long talking about the show, however, before the size shifter turned things around on her, asking how she was doing. It was only natural for her to start talking about everything that happened when they got back from their missions, with Bella being attacked and whatnot. It was confusing and upsetting, even though she hadn't been directly involved.

He agreed with her that the rest of the base was still reeling from the drama, the brunette nodding in agreement before coming to the realization that he probably wasn't really asking about that, but about the Alpha mission itself. Quickly, she changed gears, recounting the gist of it but unable to mask her emotions regarding the whole fiasco. She couldn't help but feel like they had been betrayed, and it worried her that no one was able to pinpoint exactly what had happened to make sure that it never happened again. They'd had their asses handed to them because someone screwed up somewhere - she found it hard to believe that with all the things they could do and the resources at their disposal, they couldn't figure out what happened.

                                              That was scary.

The size-shifting Native American agreed with her, the boy musing about whether they had figured out who was behind the bad tip, even going so far as to suggest that the person may be coming after them if they knew where the Academy had been moved to. She hadn't really thought of that, a brief look of concern crossing her features as she tried to shove such thoughts aside.

"Goodness, I hope not...the damage they could cause. I don't even want to think about it." She wanted to add that she especially didn't want to think about it when they would be essentially trapped underground, but it was too scary of a possibility to continue to entertain. Instead, she turned the topic of conversation to the Omega mission, and the sentinel she had heard they faced. Of the two, the Omegas were certainly the more adept fighters, though a bit more of a wildcard when it came to their methods (at least compared to the Alphas).

He seemed to shrug off the mention of the Sentinel, explaining that the heavy hitters were able to make short work of the robot. She couldn't help but laugh slightly at the idea that Narcissa thought that Daylia was expecting because she got sick in the middle of their escape and was a little sluggish. "Really? I mean...I guess everything we've seen around here, I shouldn't be shocked by it, but I wasn't aware that she was seeing anyone. Didn't she go to prom with Dimitri," she started, her eyes suddenly going wide before turning the hazel orbs back to him with a questioning expression.

"You don't think...I mean, it would be too early for her to be showing any symptoms, right?"

Kerrigan joined Dimitri in the gym, complimenting his form as she took up her position for her own workout. It was only natural for her to ask how he was doing, given everything that the Alphas had been going through. He insisted that he was doing alright, considering, the redhead explaining that she would be more worried about him if he didn't seem affected by everything that had happened. He seemed a little confused by her statement, the redhead offering a smile in return.

"I guess you could put it that way. You guys went through a lot. It's normal to have fear and anxiety and stress when things went the way they did at the base and with Bella when you guys got back. In our line of work it seems that desensitization is more dangerous than some of the other things we've seen. But, I could just be full of s**t. To each their own." Her shoulders rose and fell in a simple shrug as she resumed her workout, the boy expressing his appreciation for her concern. When he warned her about making sure that Narcissa didn't catch her affiliating with Alphas, a laugh escaped her.

"I appreciate the warning, but don't you worry about me. I think I know her a little bit better than you," she retorted, both joking and being serious in her tone of response. He asked if everything had gone alright on their side, the redhead shrugging slightly, "As well as could be expected with sentinels and swarming MRDs. Nothing we couldn't handle in the end." He'd asked if she had time to grab a cinnabon while they were at the mall, to which she jokingly replied that she was watching her figure. It made him laugh, which was nice. Sometimes when things were darkest, a little laugh could significantly lighten the mood.

"Oh, well, thank you. I know," she responded with a cheeky smile when he told her that she didn't have to worry about having just one. She knew she was in good shape - she worked hard for it. It was still nice to have it noticed, even if it came from the one boy that seemed to notice every physique in the Academy at one point or another.

Alice joined them shortly, the redhead's eyes following her as she took up her space at the weight bench not too far away and began stretching out. Who knew that the gym would be such a popular place for people, given their increased training session and the relative lack of time since their last field mission. Still, it was nice to have the company - even quiet company.

Darien explained that he was new, on the Alphas, and introduced himself. Even if he wasn't specifically talking to her, the redhead always paid attention to her surroundings, especially when it came to newbies. Sure, she was an Omega, and their leader expected them to keep themselves as distant from the Alphas as possible, but Kerrigan never let team affiliations interfere with her interactions with others.

The new Alpha and Dimitri agreed to a spar, the redhead content to let the boys go at it while she continued her workout. Darien addressed her, inviting her to join in, provided that his partner didn't object. He was confident - that was a good and a bad thing, given his apparent lack of understanding about who she was and what she could do. The magma-slinging muscle-head didn't object to her joining in as his teammate, the redhead returning to a standing position and offering them a sweet smile through elevated breaths.

"Oh, sweetheart," she started, addressing Damien, "I hope you believe me when I say I'm not being cocky - it really wouldn't be fair. You boys have fun. Maybe we can one-on-one some other time." Her tone was as sweet and she could make it without being condescending, hoping he wouldn't take it as a jibe that his ability to fight. She was the best hand-to-hand fighter on the base, a title that she had earned through years of training and hard work. Sure, she didn't know him or his ability, but it would be irresponsible of her to accept a challenge before he had an opportunity to know what he was up against.

Dimitri inquired as to the newbie's power while the new guy asked about theirs. She caught sight of the magma-head's invitation for her to start, the redhead extending a hand towards their new addition with a smile, "Adoptive muscle memory. And I'm Kerrigan, by the way. Not sure if I said that before." His fellow alpha offered his own power at that point, the redhead curious as to what his answer would be. Whatever the power, he seemed to be confident that he could take a punch.

While the two boys got to know each other, the redhead turned her attentions to her fellow teammate, stretching her arms above her head. "You need a spot while these two duke it out?"

She stood there awkwardly, trying to determine how much of her tirade Felix had heard, though it did little to dissipate her frustration with Scott. And with her ever-growing vexation with the headmaster, sprouted an idea. The speedster standing before her was no stranger to getting into trouble, and with his mutation he could be useful. If he didn't want to be an a**, or sit here and flirt all day. The latter was more likely, given his track record.

Asking him what she might do for him, he responded almost exactly the way she was hoping. Rolling her eyes heavenward, she made it known how much she appreciated his dramatics, and that his feigned hurt feelings didn't get very far with her. "Right. Because you would truly be wounded over something so small." She quipped disbelievingly. "Especially if it's coming from a girl you only talk to in an effort to get in her pants."

This said, she conceded to his other points, and nodded, still slightly surprised that he would be so quick to help. (No pun intended) "If you're actually willing to help, I'll owe you a favor if you can bust me in." Realizing she couldn't just leave that with no stipulations, she held up a finger as she added a contingency. "However, I have veto power on what favor you call of me."

He accused her of staring, and Aurie let out an exasperated gasp. "Oh for heaven's sake! You wish I was actually staring." She uttered. She'd been ready to start a snappy comeback that he interrupted by holding a finger up to silence her. Biting down on her cheek, she impatiently waited for him to finish - only to realize what he was doing. Though she would never admit it out loud, it was smart. She would not have thought to do that. "Sure." She said, before he finished his suggestion about staying here and making out. Did his flirty personality ever get serious?

Coming closer, she batted long eyelashes, her expression demure. "Speedy you might be able to move quick, but I don't think you could handle all of this." The telekinetic remarked pointing down to the whole package that was her. "I'm pretty sure we had this conversation, and it didn't end well for you then, either." Not to mention, he'd been linked to Raine if the rumors were true. That made him a no-no zone.

But it was just as well, because August snuck in behind Felix, intent on making his presence there a surprise. Biting her lip as she braced herself for another bout with the speedster, August's souther lilt made its way to air. "Oh August, he's got all the action I think you could want." She retorted, interested in seeing Felix go on the defensive for once. It would be worth the small delay to have a story to tell Kat.

She didn't seem to mind when the man circled around and used her as a head rest. Peering up at him, the telekinetic shrugged. Honestly, she didn't mind the endearment from Felix, but it was entirely too much fun to let go. "I think he calls me that because he doesn't remember how to pronounce my name." Aurelie mock whispered, her features forming a puckish expression.

Because she wasn't entirely familiar with the tattooed man's abilities, she hesitated on letting him in on the secret, but ultimately decided he could be a great distraction as Felix sped them in. Knowing Scott's obstinate behavior regarding her friendship with Kat, the third person would be absolutely necessary. "But seeing as you're such the gentleman, you might as well know that Fe-fe here is planning on sneaking me into the containment area so I can see my bestie. If you care to join us, you might get to nibble on Mr. God's-gift-to-man all that much sooner."

It was nice to see Raine not buried in her books for once. Since prom, they had few interactions, and both blamed the schedules of being on different teams. But he had missed her company and chose to blame it on her heavy course load instead. At least it made her an easy target for relentless teasing.

"I don't want to go to Yale; and I actually have all the credits I need for a diploma back home." Aren responded with a grin, the casual roll of his shoulders matching his cavalier personality. "Fancy educations mean nothing on the rez." That was exactly where he intended to go, and made no secret of it. "Out here, in the white people's world it might. So Felix might need to study a little harder. But I'm sure you could entice him..." He said, knowing fully well that she and Felix had some sort of flirtation going on.

Raine also tacked on their more active mission log, and Aren agreed as he added on the Danger Room sessions to their time apart. "We'll have to try harder in the future to cross paths." He said, determined to keep their friendship alive.

Offering her a Dorito, Raine munched on it as she listened to the explanation of the cartoon he was watching when they returned their attentions back to the television. He heard the firefly stifle a snicker when he said it was necessary in order to get time on Cammi's Xbox and he feigned a glare at her in the darkness. "You think it's funny. Her terms and conditions are absolute."

Nodding when Raine thankfully agreed that Full Metal Alchemist sounded much better than Ouran High School Club, the native continued. "This one is actually interesting and not ruined by a bunch of unnecessary smut." They watched a few minutes in silence, save the chomping of crunchy chips before Aren turned his focus on the brunette, genuinely interested in her answer.

Everything that the Alphas had experienced recently had the entire school abuzz - the mission with terrible intel, Kat attacking Bella... Leonardo nearly killing Kat. In all his time here, he had never heard of the blue and blacks being in that much trouble all at once. She recounted it all, and the size shifter sympathized with her torrid amount of emotions. It'd been a lot to handle for all of them.

What had him most concerned about the entire thing was that someone had intentionally sent the Alphas into a trap. And whoever had delivered that "tip" was obviously posing as a friend, who could in turn, compromise their new home. With nowhere to go but up, Aren couldn't see an easy escape. "I hope not either." He said sincerely, a serious tone overtaking his usually precarious one.

She asked about the details of their own excursion out, and Aren seemed to take what had happened in stride. Sentinels were a nuisance to him, but not altogether terrifying the way they were for others. Gracie shook at the mention of them, Cissa's eyes and heart darkened... but what had happened long ago was only a story to him. Outside of what they had so recently done to their home on Grey Malkin Lane... he didn't know their true destruction. Everything they had built could be replaced.

Instead of focusing on the towering robot, he let it slip that Narcissa thought Daylia pregnant after puking on the field. Shrugging at the next series of questions, Aren clearly didn't have an answer. "Well, I'm not sure what happened there... or if you should alert your teammate to the fact that his baby is going to wear black and red stripes when it comes out. But ki'somma seemed pretty certain."

Interrupted momentarily by his comm, Aren glanced up at Raine when he heard the speedster request him as an alibi, no doubt waiting on her to blow her top at him getting into trouble again. And then he mentioned tacking Aurie onto the list of people he'd been with, and the native hoped his assumption was wrong. "Well, just to keep the story straight, you'll have to add Raine to that list, seeing as she just heard you."

The Texan's shoulders shook with his laughter at Alice's sass, and her idle threat to hurt him if he didn't present her a lollipop for her trouble. "I think it's actually cream soda flavored, and you can bet I'll check the wrapper to make sure that's the one you don't get if you keep being rude to the gentleman willing to go get it for you." He warned, his southern drawl thick as molasses.

She threatened him again, and Blake shrugged. "Sweetheart, many men from Texas hail from military families, and we run in the sweltering heat so awful you're pretty sure you see the dirt steaming. You think your little legs can keep up?" He joked, but hurried out of the room when she requested privacy with Golden Boy to get that sucker he'd promised her.

                                                                Time Skip

Heaving a deep breath as he took a trip down memory lane, Blake resisted the urge to sit next to her on the bed. Those days had been simpler - full of laughter and optimism. Her green eyes had shined more than the northern lights, sparkling with her zest for life that never seemed as though it would be quenched. Staring at her now, they were dull, almost lifeless.

If Bella had listened too closely, she might have heard the exhaustion he kept tucked away for everyone else's benefit. Because he had not slept in the last three days, he highly doubted she would catch onto the deeper problem when it was so obvious he had not left her side since they brought her down here. But the Texan was tired; how could he not be? Everything he had done in the last six months had been for someone else - his father, his mother, the campaign, the team, Bella - without any regard for himself and what he needed. Even now, his mind foggy from sleep deprivation, he thought of nothing but comforting the dark-haired beauty and making her more at ease.

Her lack of emotion from stirring the memory caused another wave of dejection to wash over him, and the forced smile did little to alleviate it. Her outlook would break his heart long before he ever gave her the chance to break it in truth. "There is no way you could have known how that assignment was going to go." Blake insisted gently, taking a pair of light fingers to lift her chin so that she could see the sincerity in his deep blue eyes.

"You forget that Narcissa nearly died and almost took another one of her team members with her." He reminded her, his slow-speaking cadence making it sound even gentler. "I don't think his hands will ever recover fully from handling her. Every leader makes mistakes... the mission isn't on you. What happened after..." He paused, still trying to wrap his head around why Katerina had chosen to attack her. "Wasn't a mistake in leadership, it was a mistake in judgment. And no one is immune to that."

She argued further, stating that Evie had been magnificent in reigning Gideon in, and Blake shook his head in disagreement. "Evie didn't do that alone, doll." As much as it pained him to remember her falling for the Wolverine-clone, he continued. "Loving you brought him over to the light, so to speak. And while Gideon was completely out of control, it's harder to do that with someone who has her own ideas... Gideon was violent, volatile, but he was more animal than human. Katerina..." Katerina was definitely human and had her own sense of right and wrong. Altering her principles and moral compass, leading her back to the side fighting for the good of all would take a lifetime. "She'll take a might more time because she isn't a beast."

"But I don't think it's safe to have her and Leo on the same team. When Gideon came, he didn't have someone he considered a mortal enemy commanding him. They need to be separated."

She stood; he hovered near her, unable to miss how unsteady the normally graceful woman was on her feet. As soon as she appeared as though she might fall while trying to gather her thoughts, his arms instinctively pulled her back to his chest. "I got you." He whispered gently as she tensed, still wanting very much to argue with the merits of her staying in bed until she fully recovered. But holding her - even briefly - was enough to quash the urge. She was safer here, leaning against the hard wall of his chest than she would be anywhere else.

Relenting to his request to remain in the medbay momentarily, she tried to rehash what had happened. When she let out a dry laugh, the Texan pulled back so that he could see her face, hoping to catch a glimpse of her meaning. He said nothing as she continued, and the missing pieces of the puzzle he had been trying to solve fell into place. His insides shattered to billions of slivers, promising him that they'd never again be whole.

His heart beat, the way he felt... the way he smelled. Kat had gone after Bella, to get to Leo, yes. But it had worked because in the time he had been attending family duties... maybe even before, Leo and Bella... Looking at the floor, he winced as the thought cemented itself into his brain. Leo and Bella had become more than just friends. Lovers. The pain of knowing nearly brought him to his knees.

Schooling his expression into one of stone, he let her explain as he did his best not to allow each piece of his heart fall to the floor with a resounding echo. Now wasn't the time to fall apart. Now wasn't the time to focus on the fact that she loved someone else. Again. He could not afford to dwell on that or the fact with this new blow, it was all too clear he and she would never be a "they." She needed her friend right now, no matter that his throat felt like it would close or that the ache in his chest burned like greek fire. She needed him; that was all that should matter. He could not start being selfish now.

Joshua knocked on the door to announce his presence, and Blake took the man's examination as an opportunity to distance himself from the girl he had carried a torch for the majority of the last decade. Nearly deaf with grief for his own heart, he barely heard Elixir's lecture, or the nurse that came in with a change of clothes. He only seemed to come back to life when Bella disappeared from the room and he could breathe again. Though they were labored, the slightest inhale felt as though a thousand needles were pricking him from his core.

Sinking into the chair, the cowboy pushed his fingers through his hair and sat hunched over his knees while he processed the demise of his hopes for happiness with another person, and the death of his freedom. With the pressures of his family stacking, it had been Bella's smile that gave him courage to face the dichotomy of what was right and what was expected. It had been the anticipation of having another movie night with her that gave him the smile he flashed for the papers and interviews. It had been the her laughter that kept him standing. But it had been love that kept bringing him back, regardless of the risk of exposure.

                                                                And it meant nothing now.

She peeked out of the room, and his back straightened to a stiff, upright position as she smiled at him. His breath hitched as he marveled momentarily at how beautiful he found her; but in an instant his insides crumbled all over when she asked again to leave - obviously anxious to see the man who had won her affection. She wasn't his and would never be.

An eternity must have passed as he mustered words that wouldn't hurt her by revealing how he felt. Even though she didn't love him, he knew she would hate knowing the ugly truth about the man who had always been one of her best friends. "If Josh says it's okay." He said. Despite his best efforts, he could not quite keep the despondence from his voice, This is what she's chosen. He reminded himself, still wanting her happiness above his own.

Rising tiredly from his seat, he offered her a hand to keep her steady. Mistake. As soon as her fingertips brushed his palm, his resolve dilapidated and undefined anger started to replace the grief in a desperate attempt at some self-preservation. Seeing her with him would kill whatever part of him was still alive. His feet stopped moving toward the door and let her hand fall from his, shrinking back to give him some space. "I can't." Swallowing, he bade himself to stop talking when she was no doubt confused in his sudden change of mood, but something in him didn't listen. If he didn't say this now, he never would. It was already too late; he knew that, but in order to know peace, how he felt had to reach the air. "I want to be there for you, Isabella." He started, uncharacteristically using her given name. No longer would he call her doll face, bells, or any other pet name. Familiarity would only cut him deeper. "I really do. And I spent the whole time you were getting cleaned up demanding myself to do just that. I've been out here telling myself to be a gentleman my ma would be proud of." If she had any capacity to have actually mustered any of her own feelings.

Taking another step back, he met her gaze fully for the first time since she'd re-emerged from the adjoining room. No matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't shield the heartbreak and sorrow she might find in the depths of his crystalline eyes. "I've been telling myself to do just what I always have, support you, be happy for you, mask how it feels like there's a knife twisting, worming its way through my ribcage... as easily as a rattler dances through sand, but I can't." His voice faded as he reigned in what he could of his emotions so that he could keep his tone steady. No doubt that she would hear the strain anyway. "I was able to with Gideon, but that was partially because I was not around for you to see how conflicted your letters about how much you loved him made me."

He stopped talking for a moment then, looking away because he couldn't bear to look at that hauntingly beautiful face any longer. Not that it would help when all of the memories they shared over the years had etched her into every part of him worth anything. "All my life... I have always done what was best for everyone else. What was expected of me. But, I am a man. A human of flesh, bone and, Christ have mercy on me, feelings and weaknesses. And I I am sorry... but I'm not strong enough to watch you love another."

Brushing past her, he started for the door, knowing he had said too much to ever go back to the friendship they once had. By popping his mouth open, he had taken that last bit of what was important to him, and destroyed it. "You go on without me." He instructed, forbidding his voice to crack.

Isabella allowed Blake to lift her chin. She was too sore to resist. Her eyes were pale, a shade of worn down beach glass, though they fixed on his with somber resolve. She knew that he wished for her to revert to the joyful fearless mutant he had known growing up…But that girl-child didn’t exist anymore. How could she? Being naïve and believing in absolute goodness was a death sentence to everyone around her. Change was the nature of the passage of time. As much as she wanted to give Blake, Scott, Thomas and the others what they seemed to desire…

She couldn’t give something she didn’t have. Innocence lost could never be regained.

“It was a warning that I overlooked. It was a mistake.”,
she uttered quietly, the dual toned vocals causing her to cringe a little. It was a rare moment when she couldn’t stand the sound of her own voice. It was like nails on a chalk board, or chewing tin foil. Even in her mind discomfort she could see that Blake believed what he was saying. She knew he was being sincere. It was sweet, as he so often was, but in that moment…He was wrong. “I couldn’t have known about the trap. But I knew about Katerina.”

Blake brought up Narcissa’s incident with the Sentinels when they first attacked the Academy and the sound user remained uncharacteristically silent. It wasn’t the same. The details of Aren’s maiming wasn’t exactly clear to her. It wasn’t as if she and the Red Queen swapped stories and gossiped about boys over breakfast. “They were both injured defending the Academy. It wasn’t the first time. It won’t be the last.”

They weren’t fighting EACH OTHER. It was different, in every way.

“You weren’t here Blake.”, she breathed at the mention of her relationship with Gideon. She couldn’t help but feel wounded. It was one thing to reference him clinically. It was another to bring up one of the most painful pieces of her recent past back to the surface. Those emotions conflicted with what she felt for Leo and she didn’t know how to cope with it. So she didn’t. “Not for all of it. Evelyn saved him from himself. Not me.”

Blake explained that Katerina would require more time than the Wolverine clone to escape HYDRA’s teachings because they were fundamentally different. Isabella agreed...If it was possible for the shape shifter to change at all. She wasn’t entirely sure it mattered though. If Leo had his way; Time was up.

“They are different…But you’re only half right. Katerina is a beast. She is monster.”

The words were uttered with conviction. Blake hadn’t been there. He hadn’t seen what she had seen. If Leo hadn’t have stopped her…Katerina would have killed her. No exception.

Blake caught her when she shakily stood and she didn’t know how to feel about it. The softness in his tone soothed some of her frayed nerves…But she was still on edge. Still tense.

Once the medical staff flooded the room the conversation was cut off, leaving her feeling like there was something she’d missed. Part of her was relieved that something broke the rigidity of the conversation but the rest of her felt confused. Something was wrong. Was he really that upset with her about her attempts to leave the medical ward?

Elixir drew back the privacy curtain which cut off her view of the Texan while the healer explained the extent of her injuries. Isabella was only half listening, preoccupied by the numerous problems that were far bigger than his silly medical restrictions. When she was brought proper clothing and allowed to shower she did so quickly. When she approached Blake again she could feel something was amiss. She could hear it. Blake offered her his hand and despite reservations about personal space she curiously took it. She trusted him.

When his hand fell away two seconds later, and his mood changed completely, she held back the burgeoning fear that he was Katerina come to finish what she’d started. He had been out of sight for a little while. Was it long enough for her to escape and trade places? A brief reach with her metahuman hearing reassured her that the shape shifter was still locked up. Isabella was completely confused. He was looking at her as the Faux-Leo had. As if he didn’t know her. Couldn’t see her. Couldn’t stand to look at her. It wasn’t right.

It stung rather deeply to hear her God given name. Blake never called her Isabella. Her eyes became quiet and guarded. Whatever proverbial storm felt like it was coming from the Texan, she knew to brace for it. He didn’t act like this. She had never seen him this way. Isabella skittishly took a step back when he did—suddenly feeling like the room was two sizes too small. He met her gaze and she was startled by what she saw. Pain. So much…She couldn’t see the end of it. His words caught up to her as his desolate emotions pulled ruthlessly on her heartstrings. Her stomach bottomed out as her shielded façade shattered.

‘I’m not strong enough to watch you love another.’

Her brain and heart suffered a severe disconnect as her eyes filled with tears when Blake turned his back on her. Her lips parted as if to say something to stop him, something to comfort him, but she found herself without words. Did he mean to imply that he loved her? That he was IN love with her? Was she reading too much into it?

Had Blake admitted to harboring such intense feelings to any other woman…Their cheeks might have turned pink. They might have been flattered and swooned. There was a time where she might have unwittingly done the same. Now…She found herself beginning to silently cry, fearful of her reaction transforming her voice into a weapon. This was too much.

Her eyes pressed closed to banish the image of Blake walking away…For the time being, letting him go. He couldn’t stand to look at her. He acted as if her touch had either burned or disgusted him. Anything she said would only wound him deeper. Carefully whispered words carried through the air. Even that, she was hesitant. All she wanted to do in that moment was take his pain away. ~I’m sorry Blake…I’m so…so sorry…I—~

To delve further into the confusion that had blossomed in her heart was a complete betrayal to the man that had saved her life more times than she could count. That same man who was rotting in a cell BECAUSE of her stupidity. Isabella could not, would not, be disloyal. Her moral compass wouldn’t allow it. As dear to her as Blake was, and by God, he was, Leo was also in her heart. Frustration wound through her enough that she wanted to scream. She almost did.

Location: X-Men Facility - Holding Cells

It took a long time to convince Scott Summers to allow her into the sub-level that housed the detainment cells. At first, he had been adamant that she stay away. Far away. Her anger at finding out that Leonardo was bound with a straight-jacket was nothing short of legendary. Few had, or ever would, see the Siren lose her cool. The situation with Blake didn’t help her temperament but she found it horrifying where Leo was bound where Katerina was not. While she wanted to curl up in bed and cry, this issue wasn’t about her. It was about the two people locked up that were for better or worse part of her team. This was her problem to solve.

Debate after debate finally forced the man to relent. The office door made crunching noises when she closed it, hunks of shattered glass getting caught as they dragged across the carpet. She hadn’t broken anything on purpose, Isabella never would, but her frayed voice and lack of control reduced her ability avoid it.

She wore a thick white bracelet on her wrist that would allow her to pass through the force fields to the cells without interruption. It could not be removed without the key from Scott unless someone wanted to break her wrist to get it off. It would not allow any more than one person to pass in or out. That meant she would wisely NOT be entering Katerina’s cell, though she did have something to say to her. An extra blanket and a water bottle were tucked under her arm as she entered the area unhindered. She was a little surprised to see Lachlan standing outside Katerina’s cell. “Lachlan.”, she greeted the super strong Alphas wearily, eyes falling to the shape shifter.

Hatred unbiddenly welled in her veins and she wanted nothing more than to reach through the barrier and give her a taste of her own medicine. Squelching dark thoughts that were spurred by her corrupted mood caused her blood pressure to rise. The woman waited. Silent. Smirking. “I forgive you, Katerina.”

                                        “If it happens again… I won’t.

She pulled away from the shape shifter before the Italian woman could respond. Before she could see the absolute REVULSION that brought tears back to her eyes. It was an unfamiliar emotion that made her feel nauseated. She didn’t forgive Katerina. Hopefully, saying it, would give it power and make it true.

Isabella hesitated outside of Leo’s cell. Her tangled stomach and battered heart left her looking more than a little rough. There were dark circles under her eyes that were a little red. A telltale sign that at some point in the day she had been yelling and crying. “…Leo?”

The way she said his name was soft. Gentle. It was in direct contrast to the insults Katerina started hurling. She walked through the force field with a small sigh when she was met with silence. Scott had been convinced that Leo was a danger to himself and others. Isabella knew better. The only one he was a danger to was Katerina. She still believed that he would never hurt her. Leo was a far better man than the Headmaster seemed to be willing to give him credit for.

The animal mimic was seated on his cot, back straight. He glanced at her, briefly, but his stone expression gave nothing away. The small woman approached him slowly and set down the items she’d brought with her. From there she reached for the ties that kept his arms bound. It took some doing to get them free. Once she could pull the straight jacket off she threw it in the nearest corner. How could they do this to him? Was she so blinded that she couldn’t see the point? Isabella touched him once, fingertips a bare whisper to his cheek, but didn’t demand anything from him. She wouldn’t be offended if he pulled away. She left the bottled water but picked up the blanket and sat down on the floor in front of the cot. The blanket wrapped around her shoulders, she drew her knees up to her chest and rest her forehead against them.

A bubble of silence wrapped around the cell which abruptly cut Katerina off. Her eyes closed and she slowly tried to relax. For someone that had slept for days she was SO freaking tired. She needed to think, and she needed Leo. There were mutant destroying wrecking balls intent on ripping their faces off. Her love life didn’t matter. She needed him out of the cell for about a half dozen other reasons. He was best equipped to fight them, and SHIELD.

She tried not to let her injured heart show…But it was hard. She’d never fought with Blake before. She’d never thought to fight with Scott before. She’d never thought she’d be sitting in a holding cell with Leo because it was the only place she felt remotely safe.

                                        “Tell me what to do.”

User ImageLooking to Charlotte as he unloaded his weapon, he chuckled as he replied, “Sorry, I’m so used to carrying openly. The benefits of my mutation results in the lesser requirements for sleep. Needing just four hours of sleep, I’m often up at odd hours, not many people around to be intimidated by what I’m packing.” which was a statement of fact. He was often up when most were asleep, walking about the facility when not many stirred. Gave him plenty of time to think, to walk, to do plenty of very stupid tests with his numerous stupid ideas. His fingers glided across the weapon, dancing along the bullet casings as he slipped them on the countertop.

It took him a moment to realize that she was busting his chops, which he responded with a smirk. He was getting the hang of this whole “social interaction” thing…

“Though, it’s a rare thing for me to be out at this time. But, my work has lead to needing supplies.” gesturing to the faceplate. Once he did his cleaning, he’d go back to his shop and work on the interlay for the AR into the helmet.

Both Charlotte and Alex commented on his ability to do stuff, with the Omega offering to even assist him. To which he chuckled, “No worries, like I said, stubborn breed here.” shuffling around the kitchen. Colin introduced herself, establishing that she was mute. She was quick to offer up some dialogue, with an impressive speed through text. He introduced himself and even offered to help get her acquainted with the kitchen.

He sat back, leaning on a counter, taking his face plate in hand. Grabbing the shammy cloth that was in his pocket he sprayed some of the cleaner on the graphene plate. He was deft in his cleaning, he took his time as he listened to the others talk amongst themselves. Colin even exalted some excitement over training. He didn’t want to get into it now, but he’d have no problem showing her to how to use a firearm on the range. As much as she wasn’t likely to use a weapon, it would not hurt to know what she was dealing with, if they were so unfortunate to ever wind up in a firefight.

Maybe he could prevent one more person from getting shot, like him. He winced a bit as the pain flashed through his leg, taking a moment to rub where the bullet had entered.

Elixir took away the hurt, but the pain was still there.

➔ Library with Felix, August, and Aurelie

It’s been two days since the mission… and two days since she felt the warmth of the sun on her skin. She was back in their oh-so-secure underground prison in the middle of nowhere Canada, where the air was stale, the view was holographic, and days were measured by the number of times she wanted to bash her head in. This was terrible. So terrible. Why was the universe punishing her?

So maybe that was an exaggeration. She didn’t actually think the universe was punishing her. And it really wasn’t that terrible. She still hated their new living arrangement and she did want to bash her head in most of the time… but she was getting used to living underground. As long as she avoided the idiots living with her, she could get through a day without wanting to shove anyone through multiple solid objects. Progress!

Magda was determined to have a good day. She woke up early, made herself a nice healthy breakfast, and headed over to the library with every intention to spend the day catching up on her reading list. And for the first hour or so, everything went exactly as planned. She was alone, the library was quiet, her coffee was tasty, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was a surprisingly good read.

But then she heard a voice. It belonged to some girl (Aurelie) she didn’t recognize and she tried her best to ignore it, after all, it sounded like she was on her way out. Magda took another sip of her coffee and flipped the page. She didn’t own the library and others were obviously welcome… as long as they kept their mouths shut. It was difficult enough for her to find peace in a place like this. She didn’t need some noisy idiots to ruin it for her.

Another voice. Male. And… was that Felix? Ew. She kept silent and prayed to whatever deity for them to leave. But they didn’t. His words trampled through the air and the girl responded. And they just kept going. Seriously?! Did these people not realize this was a library and the one golden rule was to keep quiet?

Slamming the book down on a desk, she marched over to the door with every intention to throw her coffee at the big idiot named Felix. Everything about him annoyed her. But she wouldn’t even know what a plague the guy was if it weren’t for that stupid speed dating thing her silly roommate told her to attend. Equipped with a death stare and a cup of mildly hot coffee, Magda made it to the entrance of the library only to see a third person (August) standing with the two others by the door. Oh great. Why don’t they just invite the whole base?

“I understand this might be a new concept for some people,” She said, interrupting their conversation. But she didn’t care; she just wanted them gone. “But this is a library and libraries are quiet places. So will you please shut the ******** up!”

She sighed, trying her best to suppress her annoyance. With an exaggerated smile, she turned to Felix. “Oh it’s you. What’s this I hear about an alibi? Just so you know, you can consider me a witness. And not for providing you with an alibi.”

“But I’m all for beating the piss out of him.”
She gave the man a sinister smile before turning to Aurelie. She only caught the last bit of their conversation but it was enough to spark her curiosity. “But seriously. What’s all this sneaking around I’m hearing about?”

                                    Holding Cell - Sub Levels

Katerina stared at Lachlan with disinterest. Her gun metal blue eyes were pointed and fierce—deliberately laced with intensity. If the farm boy had any sense at all he’d have long ago taken his curiosity and packed up shop. The situation was akin to a child watching a tiger pace restlessly from behind safety glass at the zoo. Only, this tiger wouldn’t always be a harmless. She wouldn’t always be trapped. The young woman didn’t know what this oversized imps abilities were off the top of her head, but it didn’t matter. Like any of her targets…He’d never see her coming.

                                    “I don’t negotiate, ragazzino*(Little Boy). There’s no need...”,
she spoke plainly, ignoring the rest of what was said. He was delightful…In the way that newborn puppies were appealing. Sweet, gentle, and confused. With bones so soft that incorrect handling could leave them fragile and broken. How the X-Men had survived this long was entirely beyond her. Perhaps it had been a mistake to come to them in the wake of Madam Hydra demanding her loyalty. If she had known that Rossi was among their ranks she definitely would have thought twice. “I always win.”

By any means necessary. There was no point in negotiating with people that hated and feared those that were inherently superior. Katerina wasn’t thinking of mutants versus flatscans—simply humanity as a whole. Some were simply born better equipped to deal with life than others. The X-Men seemed to be on the losing end of that lottery.

She watched Lachlan while she played with the force field that separated them. Rather, what kept him safe. If he was alarmed by her proximity, he did a good job at keeping it under wraps. Only his silence gave him away. Little fingers walked across the surface in a nearly childish manner—though she paused when he agreed with the point she’d raised. The shape shifter laughed lightly when she realized Lachlan hated himself just a little for it. These people were truly pieces of work. “Enemies are all around us. Some are just harder to see than others.”

It wasn’t just Sentinels and S.H.I.E.L.D. hell bent on their destruction. The people that handled the situation incorrectly, people like Stone, were just as culpable.

Her generally amused countenance all but disappeared when Aurelie came up. For more than one reason she was a little on edge about the telekinetic. Rossi hadn’t really had any visitors outside of the Professors; but she could imagine he hadn’t made any friends when the base realized what creature-features they were sharing space with. At the very least…Katerina had expected to see Aurelie. The blond ballerina hadn’t come. Was she so angry with her?

Her face contorted into something fearsome when the boy spoke next. She snarled when he tried to make her see that they were all the same. All people that bled, felt, and died. When he had the gall to apologize for not ‘being there’ to prevent anyone being harmed the shape shifter pulled back her fist and punched the force field as hard as she could. How arrogant was he to assume he could have made a difference? It barrier reverberated and shoved back instantly, giving what she gave tenfold. There was a sickening crunch as something in her hand bent in a way it wasn’t meant to. Anger and adrenaline filled her being like wild fire. If she could have shifted, she would have, and ripped this know-it-all son of a b***h apart. “Kinks?”

“You call Aurelie being trapped in coma for weeks a KINK?”
, Katerina demanded heatedly, completely ignoring the sharp pain in her hand. She’d felt worse. This was nothing; Self-inflicted wounds born from utter frustration and disbelief at this mutants stupidity. “The only solution is the one you seem keen on trying to stop. It isn’t about getting even. If it were…I would have already made things right.”

“I waited to see if she learned. She didn’t.”
, the former HYDRA agent growled, eyes glinting cruelly in the light. If ever there was a sense of self-preservation in this man…He would turn the other way and run. The slim brunette growled out the next words, a dark promise lacing every syllable. ”…I’m going to snap her pretty little neck.”

She walked away from the barrier again, tearing her eyes from Lachlan with such wildness that it looked like it might have hurt. Disbelief was written all over her. No one was so selfless without an ulterior motive. “You can’t be everywhere all at once. Even if you could manage to stop me in time…Would you die for her?”

“That’s the price Lachlan... If you ever come against me…I’ll beat you bloody. You may be cute as a button but you won’t get an ounce of mercy from me.”

It was then that the steel doors opened down the hall and the current object of her animosity walked in. Talk about timing. Stone looked like death warmed over. Seeing her so miserable forced Katerina back into the superior and collected woman she’d been when Lachlan had first arrived. She watched the green eyed woman with a smug expression, waiting to see what she had to say. Would she issue a challenge? Would she try to appeal to her better nature like Lachlan? Was she here to fight? All things made Katerina itch. She hadn’t had a good spar in days.

The words that left Isabella caused her eyes to narrow. She FORGAVE her? Her head pulled back as she tried to comprehend the notion. What… “I DO NOT want your forgiveness, Stone.”

Do you hear me?”, she called after the Siren nastily, though her words seemed a little off. Especially when it seemed like the Alpha leader was outright ignoring her. “I hope you choke on your self-righteous bull s**t...”

Nothing. Stone didn’t turn around. Stone didn’t stop walking—She just went straight to Rossi.

“You’re the one that needs to be forgiven.”

Katerina kept hurling random insults out of her cell—For the most part just testing the waters. She mocked everything. From the way she said Rossi’s name to the fact that former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent had snapped. How did it feel to once again be involved with a murderer? Even if Stone didn’t want to admit it…She seemed to have a penchant for turning stone cold killers into fluffy bunny rabbits. How sweet.

When it seemed that she would get nothing from the songstress or Rossi she huffed and went to sit back down on her cot. That was boring. She’d thought that the Siren would at least toss around a little more weight. Yell? Threaten? Ugh. She really was going for saint-hood wasn’t she?

Despite her flippant nature…The concept of forgiveness bothered her. How Stone could utter those words…Even if they were a lie…Confused her. Katerina did not forgive, and she did not forget. Hell, even Rossi knew that. He would never, ever let this go.

It was just one more thing about the Alpha Leader that got under her skin. So god forsaken high and mighty. Would she never learn?

When she offered to fix breakfast, only one person heard her. At least it seemed that way. Alex chuckled softly before taking a cookbook and flipping through the book. “Nothing wrong with cereal.” She got to the breakfast section of the cookbook, tilting her head. “I mean, I would probably go right for that too if I was not trying to make myself cook. Practice is needed.” After she got to French toast, she set the cookbook down on that page.

When Charlotte answered, a faint frown showed up on her face. “Yeah….” She wasn’t sure what else she could say. Not when Charlotte spoke what she and probably a lot of the Alphas were feeling. “I just hope everything will be okay at some point.” She decided to add before listening to Charlotte’s response to her question. “Hm, probably some studying and relaxing myself.” Alex made herself smile while not thinking about the previous topic as best as possible. “Not much else really.”

Alex saw Colin holding a skateboard behind her while typing out a message. While she had seen the wooden boards with wheels, she never did try to ride one. Wonder what it was like? Before she could ask, Colin asked a question and Alex furrowed her eyebrows. “Maybe the danger room? I believe you can train in there with permission. As well as the gym. That is the two places I think of off the top of my head.” She replied with a smile on her face.

As she went to look at the cookbook and gather ingredients, Charlotte offered to help Gabriel. But once again, he resisted help. She could only hope Gabriel wasn’t aggravating his wound. He looked pre-occupied with his current little project. Alex couldn’t help but faintly sigh as she looked back over at the two girls. “Well, guess you cannot help those that do not want help.” She told simply before going to prep her area. “In the meantime, I shall work on this French Toast….I just hope to not cause a fire.”

                                                    ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Thomas had slept in, he was lucky she was almost done getting ready or he would have received a hard ‘no’ in regards to her scooting over. He questioned when she stated that next time he would have to wait his turn and she gave a small nod. ”Yeah, next time.” she confirmed simply.

She teased him about running to put on a shirt and her brows furrowed in confusion when he mentioned that he wasn’t good with ‘these types of situations.’ ”What types of situations?” she asked blatantly, clearly unaware of any potential awkwardness she may have been causing.

The Bambi-eyed brunette rolled dark hues as Thomas avoided answering her question about how her makeup looked. His non answer refused to have an opinion, even when he added that she would have looked “fine” without… fine?! He really knew how to make a girl feel special, didn’t he? ”Boys…” she sighed with a shake of her head before turning to make some final touches.

After making room for him in the sink, she turned back to the mirror but before she could do anything else he’d asked about what “that” was like. Her expression would reveal that she wasn’t quite sure what he was talking about and as she noticed his gesturing, she glanced down at herself. The first things she’d noticed were her boobs, but then seeing the counter beneath her so far away it clicked. ”Oh,” she looked back up at her reflection. ”When it first manifested it felt like the whole world just opened up to me. Nothing out of reach, I wasn’t bound to the ground like I used to be.”

”It feels… free.” A smile brightened her face at the thought. ”But you know what the shitty thing is? It makes being trapped underground so much worse!” She whined indignantly, her expression melting into a small pout. Booze helped. A little. At least it didn’t hurt as much when she ran into things if she was drunk.

Floating out from the counter and unfolding her legs, her feet touched the ground for the first time this morning. She started to clean up her mess around his sick, shoving her makeup back in it’s bag rather unceremoniously as she suggested they get coffee. Once all of her things were back in her bag, her feet left the ground again, but only to spin her around and sit on the edge of the sink. She leaned on her hands as she talked to Thomas, crossing her legs at the ankles.

”Oh good! I was going to the infirmary too.” she informed. She just assumed he was also going to visit someone who had been injured. She knew absolutely nothing about him, except that he was a sound sleeper and was possibly a little slow.

While making sure her buzz wasn’t wearing off, she offered her flask to Thomas. He turned it down, but at least he hadn’t started lecturing her about drinking in the morning like others had. Brownie points.

Chocolate curls bounced with a nod as Thomas told her that he just needed to change. And really she needed to get dressed as well. When the other Alpha returned to the bathroom she was slipping into a shirt, straightening it out in the mirror before grabbing one more thing - a large scarf that she draped over her shoulder and wrapped around her neck. It was knit, cozy. She loved scarves…

”Ready?” she asked, reaching back into her bag and pulling out a small purse on a long strap. She stowed her flask away inside of it and pulled the strap over her head so it crossed over her chest and she wouldn’t actually have to carry it - and it mostly disappeared into the large scarf. She had a few other things in it as well, things that she’d rather carry around just in case than have to run back to the room to get if she needed. Like her phone, and some lip gloss.

He opened the door for her to lead the way and she floated out ahead of him. There were already a few others in the kitchen when Eden fluttered in with Thomas.

Fingers wiggled in a wave at the group, accompanied by a smile from the brunette. She was very much a people person. In fact, it was being alone that was hard for her. She floated by and her smile faded when she saw the empty coffee pot. ”Empty??” she whined to herself before starting to make some herself.

All she wanted in the mornings was to do absolutely nothing. If she didn’t have a hangover, all the better.

”Do any of you guys want some coffee?” she asked, turning to the rest of the kitchen. It was just as easy to make enough for everyone as it was to make enough for herself.

                                                    ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Eden’s choice of words was a little confusing. She made it seem like she would be bunking with him from now on. Her answer to his question didn’t do much to ease his confusion. “Uh… Okay, I’ll try not to sleep in so long next time. Thanks for moving this time.” Always trying to be polite, he wasn’t sure what to make of it all. It just felt so awkward. Perhaps had he known her better and the reasons for her sleep over it wouldn’t have been as big a deal to him.

Moving to put a shirt on brought up a little more awkwardness that Eden questioned him on. “Yeah you know… Her I was standing here without a shirt on, didn’t want to give the wrong message or anything. Didn’t want it to seem like I was trying to… You know…”, did he really even know what he was trying to get at? It was hard to verbally explain his line of thinking. “I just didn’t want to make this situation more awkward? I guess? Does that make sense?”

Apparently when a girl was putting on makeup and asking for a guy’s opinion the worst thing one could say is she looked fine. She seemed perhaps a tad annoyed by his response and Thomas pondered what he should have said. It seemed he’d been through this before with some of his other friends. “What I meant was, you look remarkable? Um… Beautiful?” Unsure at this point what the right thing to say was, Thomas figured he wasn’t likely to make up for his misstep now. Especially since his complaints came off more as questions. Perhaps she wouldn’t notice.

Making an inquiry into what her ability felt like, the healer gave her his full attention as she tried her best to explain it to him. What the man wouldn’t give to be able to fly around. Then again, he would have did anything for a metal skeleton or any kind of offensive power to make him more useful on the field. In his mind he had very little utility outside the infirmary. “That sounds wonderful.” Thomas answered honestly, and perhaps a little envious.

At the mention of being underground, Thomas sighed and nodded. “If it makes you feel any better, I think it makes most of us feel that way. What I would give to be able to go for a ride somewhere. To just drive around a city and not have to worry about a sentinel dropping out of the sky suddenly. You know, if you had someone with you, one of the professors perhaps, they might not mind you going to the service and flying a little every now and then. Maybe… Then again that might just give away our position. I don’t really know on that, but it might be worth asking if you haven’t already.” Shrugging after the suggestion Thomas turned back to the mirror.

Discussing grabbing a coffee, apparently Eden was headed to the infirmary as well. Looking over in mild surprise, he figured she would be there visiting as he hadn’t ran into her helping out in the infirmary yet. “Who are you going to see?” If he’d given it a little thought it probably would have been fairly obvious. The infirmary was clearing out again from the last mission these days.

Her use of the flask might have made him a little more wary if he hadn’t grown up around Cammi. That girl was a party girl if anyone was. Not to mention Thomas didn’t feel like it was his place to lecture or push off his thoughts on others. To each their own, as long as they weren’t hurting anybody else with their behavior at least.

Mentioning that he needed to change, Eden nodded her head in agreement and they separated to do just that. Thomas’ choice for attire being a little more simple. Perhaps it was just the scarf that made Eden’s outfit appear more complex though. She asked if he was ready and the man nodded. “I believe so.” Opening the door and letting her lead the way to the kitchen, it wasn’t a particularly long journey.

Eden floated the whole way and Thomas found himself mildly amused. Then again that sounded like a much better way of getting around than walking. They entered the kitchen and Thomas waved to those gathered. “Morning.” Noticing Gabriel, Thomas headed over to him giving him a once over. “How are things going with that leg? Any trouble walking?” Hearing Eden mention the coffee pot being empty, Thomas glanced over at her. At the question of who all wanted coffee Thomas decided to speak up just in case it was necessary. “I’ll take a little.”

Turning to the rest of the kitchen, Thomas smiled. “How is everyone else this morning? Good I trust?” He was a little more awake now, which was much better for conversation.

I will now rise from the ashes.
Don't call me pretentious.
I'm sitting here making my own rules.
And if I fall from the ceiling.
You'll be down there waiting.
And my only hope. Is falling down.
