Abbi,
Are you going alone? It's hard doing things, when you're alone and stuck in a hotel, with no-one to talk to. I'm used to doing, but it isn't fun.
I do hope you have fun, and get your answers that you want. And it all works out for you.
Tell me, you don't like being in public too much? Are you normally a shy person?

My folks are flying in after me the next day. I'd be a emotional wreck if they didn't.
Shy in public? Social Anxiety Disorder. Nuff' said.
I'm better than I used to be, I'm on meds for it, but still...it's a problem for me.
Funny thing is, I like when my humor puts me in the center of attention. Making people laugh is like crack to me. Ironic, eh?

When you've got your parents with you, it kind of stops you from enjoying things that you don't want them to see, or know about you. Or even the funny business you get up to. wink
I always find that if I had at least one of my friends with me, it's so much more fun than having anyone else.
Yes, I know about your humor, it's got me laughing at almost everything that I see as funny.
Even your riddles are a total crack. rofl

There's no riddles to me. The faux-philosophy in my sig is an oldschool simpsons quote redface
I'm actually really tight with my folks. They're actually not going to be WITH ME with me, but staying in a hotel nearby...just in case. I'm actually being housed in the dorms for the orientation. If my folks had to be with me, it wouldn't be so bad, they're about as...off...as I am.

Proves to show how much I know about the Simpson's. Not a fan too much of them.. sweatdrop
Even though your parents won't be with you, as you say. At least they're close by. And also by the time you know it, it'll all be over, and you'll be back home again.

I'm hoping that the people running the show aren't going to fill time with socializing to pad the schedule, I'm probably not going to see most of those people ever again and telling people what my favorite color is isn't going to get me anywhere :/

You don't sound as though you want to be doing this, tell me, am I thinking this to be correct?
Then my next question would be, why would you go? Is this part of your studies?
Are you saying that people actually ask you about your favorite color? gonk

I absolutely don't want to be there, but it's a requirement. No way around it. The website for the university made that very clear.
Icebreaker/getting to know you activities have always been tedious, annoying and well...invasive to me. It takes me a long time to warm up to people, and I like making friends at my own pace. Forcing me to socialize just makes me resent the people around me.

Poor Abbi. sad
I'm sure you'll do fine. You take each moment as it comes, and live by it.
As far as the icebreaker goes, I know a lot of people who work that way too. They prefer their privacy and work at their own pace, and do things how they want them done, even though it may be the long way around things. You feel as though people invade your privacy and it's not a good feeling.
You like to have your space, and not get invaded.
I know because I've been through that before. gonk
I once did things that way, and I guess as I get older, I learn to handle it differently. Going way back to when I did that. There was a guy who had a crush on me, and never got that chance to get to know 'me'..Because I wouldn't let him.
I tend not to make that same mistake twice.

For the past few years, the only guys that have been 'into' me (as far as I am aware) have been guys who would feel more at home in their mothers basement, or at a star trek convention. Unbathed, unsocialized, socks-and sandals geeks. It didn't help that the community college I went to was heavy into japanese language studies and computer programming. Wouldn't touch the men there with a ten meter cattle prod. If there were men I found attractive that looked my way, I would never have noticed, because I have been more focused on school than my social life since high school. Once I get settled in at the university, some dude will probably catch my eye and with and luck, we'll hit it off.
I'm not an uggo by any means, my brain's just a little broken.

You know sometimes it's not where we go and get the Education we need, and what people are there. What's important is to get that done, to further the career in our future.
Even though you may not have been interested or happy being there. From what I see so far, you're a pretty smart person, and I can tell that you're already heading in the right direction to further that Education.
Don't worry about things that don't interest you, and what's happened in the past. Heck don't even think about the future, because it hasn't arrived yet. All you gotta do, is think about the 'now'...Because this is where you are, and live in the now.
Take each day as it comes, and don't let things get you down. Be happy and let your life lead into the right places. All this is possible if you believe in yourself, and in what you can do.. biggrin

True, however when I don't plan for things I intend to do I get reeaallyyy anxious..to the point where I get diarrhea, sometimes. It's a problem I'm working on...but still..
I want to stay in school long enough to get a phd, or until I get sick of it. Whichever comes first.

The only reason why you worry too much is because you think about things. Being Anxious over things, can sometimes be a pain in the Arse, because it could also make you sick..
I've been there and done that, once again it boils down to 'self control'...You can do it, if you tell yourself you can. You're the only one who can make that possible..
