As the stranger grabbed onto Elly Jareth did nothing to help. Calcifer pawed at the ground and reared on the spot a little, but it seemed more to excess energy then any need to help. Together they watched Vira try and help, Jareth's face twisted into a cruel smile. He seemed sharper somehow, as well as paler, as if his form were made of sheets of ice. Even his armour had a luminescent glow to it. "Don't help just yet, Vira my sweet," he murmured quietly, his breath misting as it were a frosty morning. "For all we know this man may have a valid claim to Elly's life. As long as no harm is done to the school we shouldn't get involved....it could get messy," he explained, trailing off into a chuckle at the thought.

Ranka shook her head, "Not odd. At least you didn't meet us when we were tending to our duties. That would have been odd." Though, her brows furrowed. "Fairy Tale; a story about fairies. Told to amuse children. Alternative definition; an interesting but highly implausible story. Often told as an excuse." She murmured, running into another mental block. "They are meant to be... enchanting, yes? I'm afraid I wasn't told any. I became lost to their meaning. Another instance of illogical processing." She said softly, pausing as she realized that she may have been rather negative with that.
Thankfully she was distracted by the prospect of hoping once more, lowering her eyes. "I'm sure I shall eventually find something to hope for." She felt a weight on her chest, yet a very faint smile had found it's way to her features. "Did you ever think of liking someone before you came here? I realize this is a rather personal query, you do not need to answer if you would prefer not to." She turned his question back to him, curious to know. Though, the reason for it was impulsive, now feeling an odd sort of clenching in her chest. It wasn't harsh, but she felt distant. Wary almost of his answer. For the moment she left it alone, wanting to hear his answer first before she asked anymore questions.

Vira's brows furrowed to what Jareth said, herself confused. She didn't melt the ice around his feet, but she didn't do more than that, wanting to know what reasoning he would have. She was rather taken aback at what he just had said. "I can't just absolutely! She's my friend!" She snapped, narrowing her eyes at him. How dare he suggest such a thing! Normally Vira did try to stay out of people's affairs, but when a life was at stake she couldn't ignore that. Especially not with one of the very few friends she had. Unless Elly told her to stand down, she wouldn't. She would remain alert and ready to aid.

That was very true. They could have met in an entirely different area. An entirely different scene. What sort of conversation would they have had if the twins had been dealing with spirits and the like? He was sure it would have been a very different meeting. That much was obvious. "Yes. Enchanting is a good way to describe them. Maybe I'll find you a book of fairy tales when you understand a bit more about things like that."
"I'm sure you will too. Everything has something to hope for." Seiji couldn't imagine not having hope. Lately he wasn't hoping for anything in particular. But just having hope in general was always good. It was better then being lost in despair. He stopped to think for a moment when Ranka asked the question of him. "Well..." He was still thinking on it. "For me, it wasn't really that much of an option. Before I came to Estelle I was constantly moving from place to place. There had been girls I thought were attractive, but I never really thought much of it beyond that."
It had been easier for him to make no real attachments to the people or places he came to. He enjoyed what he did, just travelling about. Still keeping his own emotions intact, he had just never searched for romance on this travels. After all, what was the point in doing so if he was just going to leave a short time later? "In most cases, it takes a period of time to develop feelings or a relationship. So I didn't get the opportunity to think of anyone like that. I guess...coming here to a somewhat more permanent residence made me think otherwise."

The thought of her getting a book with such childish stories so late in life made her giggle, the action catching her off guard. It was sort of like the laugh, but she felt as if it accessed different parts of her vocal chords. Interesting. It also felt more... bubbly. As if she were tickled she supposed. Not that she was really ticklish. Sheryl was though. Horribly. "If you choose to." She said with a faint smile, wondering if she would still react the same to them or not after she understood more.
That tightness in her chest faded as he spoke, feeling herself relax more at his answer. Instead, it was replaced by a tingly warmth that made her head feel... giddy? She supposed that would be the correct term. "I see.... It would have been illogical to gain attachments. Would have left after a period of time..." She murmured, wondering if she should ask him about that odd clenching and tenseness she had felt. In the end, she decided it wasn't too important, so turned her mind to other things. "You were nomadic? Why so?" She blinked, realizing the way she phrased that could have been taken negatively, lowering her eyes for a moment. "I am simply curious. Before we came here, Sheryl and I teleported about wherever we needed to be. Otherwise we remained with the Elder's off in their dimension." She explained, hoping that softened her earlier phrasing.

That would be something to do. It would certainl be a chance to teach Ranka more about emotions and the actions people sometimes made based on them. A fairy tale was filled with nothing but emotions. A prince to rescue a princess, a son doing something foolish because he was tricked. He could understand why she had difficulty understanding them. He'd only ever come upon fairy tales during his travels. His masters never read anything to him unless they thought it would be important to him. Something that would be useful one day. A book of fairy tales might be a good source for reading for the both of him. "Maybe I will." Seiji smiled as he thought on it.
Seiji liked watching her smile. Even if Ranka was new at learning things like emotions, and certain actions, just the few she was doing made him feel good. In such a short amount of time she was smiling, had cried earlier, and now was starting to laugh. He seemed to be doing a good job of teaching her so far. As she asked the question, Seiji paused before answering. "I've never thought of it like that. But I guess that's true." That sort of life was nomadic in a way.
"Well, mainly it was because I didn't feel comfortable at first. For most of my life I lived with those who raised me. Other Psyhardens and mentors who took me in when I was still very young." Seiji had almost forgotten he hadn't explained his past to Ranka. He'd better do so, just to keep her from becoming confused. "Being with them for most of my life until that time, I was accustomed to just being there. When I was told that they had nothing left to teach him, they suggested I travel the world and learn new things....sort of like how you and Sheryl were sent here. So, for the past few years I've just been going from city to city."
Seiji's past had been littered with constant movement. Asides from when he was growing up, learning from his mentors, he would only ever stay in an area for a couple weeks at a time. Learning to fend for himself meant he looked for places that needed help. He would travel to a city and search out crime. Most people were thankful enough that they would lodge him and feed him if they could. He was often labelled by those people as a hero, though on the odd occasion it was less so. In some towns he'd been, trying to help and not be a part of the law ended with him being called a vigilante. In those places he stayed for a shorter period of time. Just thinking of settling at the academy seemed strange. Maybe he would grow used to it, but for now he still couldn't see himself here for any longer than a month. His mind was still in that travelling state.

It was strange, listening to him talk about his life. She had never had to ask anyone about it before. Not that she really had reason to when she was just supposed to help people move from life to death and then onward from there. But... she could get used to this. It was hard to explain.
Tilting her head, she was mostly unfamiliar with Psyhardens, though she felt as if she had to have helped some move on. She just didn't know. Ghosts were ghosts. She would have to look them up later. If his teachers raised him, did that mean he had no family before that? She nodded a little, it was written and said in many different cultures that in order to grow, one must go out into the world. A fact of life she supposed. "Everyone has to go out to live their life at some point. Find their niche in life if they don't already know what it is." She mused, brushing some of her hair aside out of her eyes. "What was it like to live with them?"
If he traveled often, it made her wonder if he would continue that for the rest of his life. She already knew the Elder's would not permit her to stay once she had gained a better understanding of living creatures. They were using the sealed part of her powers to tend to the duties that she wasn't doing herself. She would have to take over at some point. Sheryl would probably get away with remaining amongst them for she could be a very powerful healer. Such thoughts made her hold his hand a little tighter, pain snapping at her chest. "Hey.. Seiji... Are you going to eventually leave here too? Do you think you'll forever be traveling?" Maybe.. just maybe she'd get to see him after she'd have to go back. She realized the question was sudden, but she had to ask. She had no way of knowing when the Elder's would decided she knew enough.

That much was true. Just mulling around in one spot would never get anyone far in life. Eventually one had to find their place in life. "It was...well, my life." Seiji wasn't quite sure how to describe it at first. Asides from his travels, all of his memories were from his teachers. "Everything I remember is from them. They taught me everything they could. I mean, it wasn't always fun. In fact, It was more stressful if I think about it. But they were trying to prepare me for life beyond them." Whatever that was going to be, he still wasn't sure where life was going to lead him. "Even if it was hard at times, I'm still thankful to them. They're the closest thing to a family I ever had growing up."
He honestly didn't remember anything of his life before the other Psyhardens. He'd never bothered to ask either. It wasn't like he could rewind time and go back to them. Even now, he wasn't sure he would change anything from his past if he could. He was content with his past, and his present. For the first time in his life, he was trying to settle in somewhere. Estelle could be his home for now. A place of learning wasn't always a bad place to be. If he was lucky, he could learn more about himself, and maybe learn how to better control his Kei. His teachers had told him of Psyhardens who could use their Kei to almost any extent. If he learned and practised enough, maybe one day he would be one of them.
Seiji glanced to their hands, feeling the change. Was something wrong? He placed his other hand ontop of hers, gently holding her hand between his. As she asked her question, Seiji began to understand a little. "I hadn't really put much thought into it," Seiji answered honestly. "I mean, I don't think Estelle could use me as a teacher. So I suppose one day I will have to leave. I don't really have a place to call home when I do leave. I could go back to where I was raised, but I don't think I'd settle their either." Who knew how long he might be at Estelle for. The school was like a safe haven for people with unique abilities. Even if he did leave, where would he go? "Unless I find somewhere to call home, I guess I might go back to traveling. But the future can be full of all sorts of things, so who knows might happen within that time. I don't think I'll worry about it for now."

From the sound of it, his teachers were far more pleasant than how the Elder's were. Though, that did make sense. They were just prepping her to do her job, though sometimes some of the things they had her do or did themselves caused her to question their motives. Sometimes they seemed to care what happened to these living beings. And other times... they were toys. "It's better than having no family I would think." She couldn't quite call the Elders family, though she supposed in the strictest sense, they were her and Sheryl's family.
As she felt her hand become enclosed in warmth, she raised her eyes, her gaze meeting his as she listened. Why wouldn't they use him? He was doing fantastically at teaching her emotions. Though, it wasn't like she had any idea what their staff situation looked like. And she supposed her opinion would be biased. Not valid evidence at all. She exhaled slowly, so she would be able to find him. God that was a relief.... "You are lucky your future is free for you to make. Sheryl and I will have to go back to the Elder's once we have learned enough about living creatures ways. Sheryl may be allowed to remain due to her remarkable healing abilities, but I will have to go. So... I just wanted to be sure I could find you." She lowered her eyes and blushed, realizing how illogical she sounded. The Elder's would probably want to keep her focused on her duties, but she could multi-task. She had to. She would be punished probably to be so distracted, but even so, she would carry on anyways. She could find a way.
Suddenly she gasped, her free hand clasping over the seal on her eye, doubling over with pain. It was as if her eye were burning, spreading to the rest of her body. "You are insolent. We are permitting this only so you will learn. After that, it will be forbidden." Then why allow me to learn at all? It is illogical for you to be so ambiguous! "Child, if we must harm him for you to obey, we will." "NO!" She shouted, forcing herself to remain silent, gritting her teeth. You will leave him alone!! "Then obey. Do not make the same mistake you have made before." I have no idea what you are- "You don't. But you will." With that the cascading voices were gone, the pain seeping away leaving her bitterly cold. She shivered, sinking to her knees as she moved her hand away from her eye, blood dripping down like tears from the it. She was in a state equivalent to that of shock, but she couldn't stop shaking. She couldn't let them hurt him, she couldn't! And what had they meant by mistake? What had her previous lives done?

"That's true. If not for them, I doubt I would be here at all. I've...come close to straying down other paths before." Closer than he would like to admit. Seiji could recall several accounts where he had found himself in very dangerous situations. Just a simple misunderstanding had almost cost him an entirely different future. Sometimes, he had to wonder what his life could be like if his morales were a little different.
Seiji was glad he has his freedom. As she spoke of the Elders, he felt a little frusterated once more. Having hurt Sheryl so, and keeping the twins so constricted, he couldn't help feel a bit of anger towards them. Even if he didn't understand them, he didn't care. They seemed like cruel beings to him. He'd seen their work, what they were capable of. He couldn't ever bring himself to even remotely like them. The mention of finding him made Seiji calm a little. She smiled yet again. "You'll always be able to find me. I promise."
As it grew silent between them, Seiji was about to say something more when Ranka moved so suddenly. "Ranka? What's wrong?" Seiji leaned closer, letting his legs slide out from under him, sitting on his rear now. "Ranka....are you al-" His words stop, panic suddenly washing over him. Her hand was over her eye. Was it them again, the Elders? Seiji didn't know what was happening, Ranka was in pain, but that was all he knew. When the worst of it seemed to pass, the Psyharden brought himself closer to the pale girl. He could clearly see the blood, but was at a loss for words. Slowly, he let his arms wrap around her, pulling her close into an embrace. "Ranka...." It was all he could managed to say.

She didn't initially hear him, the Elder's words still ringing in her ears and mind. She startled a bit as she felt him pulling her close, blinking rapidly. Her breath shuddered as her arms slid slowly around him, her body still shaking terribly. She held him tightly, tears rolling from her eyes. On the one side her cheek seemed to become stained pink from the water mixing with the blood, pressing her forehead into his shoulder.
"Just hold me... Please..." She whispered, finding it calming for him to hold her like that. She felt could feel his warmth seep into her bitter cold skin, something feeling like it just snapped inside her. She had never been this scared before and not just for herself. It was for him. The things they could do to him... No, no she couldn't let that happen.
It took another moment before she could speak, calming a little in his embrace. "It was the Elders. They were.. reminding me of my place." She offered as an explanation, realizing it wasn't much, but she hoped it would suffice. She didn't want him to blame himself or anything if he knew what it was exactly about.

The incident seemed to give Seiji all the more reason to hate these Elders. First Sheryl, now they were tormenting Ranka. The twins may have had control of Life and Death, but they also had emotions. Feelings that needed to be cared for as well. Just Ranka's reaction to his embrace was proof enough. Feeling her arms return the gesture made it seem all the more human.
He said nothing at first, just keeping his arms around her, letting the moments pass by. Keeping her close, Seiji could feel her shaking. She seemed completely human at this very moment. True fear was gripping her, so much so that she shivering uncontrolably. It was surprising to see her filled with so much emotion and show it. Even if this moment was no where near a positive emotion.
Ranka's words confirmed Seiji's suspicions. It had been the Elders who had done this. The moment she reached for her eye, he had thought it to be their doing. That was where her seal was. Who else would have such a powerful grasp over her? Seiji gritted his teeth, placing a hand upon the back of her head to comfort her. Reminding her of her place? These Elders had no heart whatsoever. It made him feel sick to his stomach. Closing his eyes, Seiji forced the thought from his mind and tried to focus on Ranka. "The worst has passed." He said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I'm here for you." He didn't know how much he could help, but he would do whatever he could to keep Ranka safe from and comfort her.

Her shivering settled down a little more as she felt his hand on her head, hiding her face more in his chest. Biting her lower lip, she understood now why so many spirits seemed so sad to be apart among other situations she had found. Sniffling, she took a deep breath, the flow of tears slowing in the slightest. He was there, for the moment they were fine. She had to treasure what little time they may have together. A month could pass in the blink of an eye to her. To be immortal was not a wonderful thing.
It took a few more moments, but she finally fully calmed down, her arms loosening a little around him. Enough to allow her to straighten up to look at him. Wiping away the remains of her tears, her face held appreciation, sadness, and calm. To show so many things at once, it was new to her. "I'm alright now. Is... is it alright if we stay like this a little longer? I don't want to feel cold." She asked, her cheeks flushing a soft pink, both from her question and well... how close their faces were. It was odd.... maybe it was because she had gone so long without really feeling emotions that now she could and was, she felt them stronger than most. Though, perhaps that was just how she saw it. It wasn't like she had any idea how others felt in such situations.

Seiji could feel her beginning to shake less. Was she really without emotions all that time before they met? It seemed hard to believe. She might have showed less expression, but from everything he'd seen, she seemed perfectly normal. Maybe it was simply his experience of the world that led him to think like this. Either way, he was happy he could help her feel less scared. It gave him a sense of purpose for the time being. Sure, helping others he came across was well, but he'd never felt he really had a purpose before. Here with Ranka, he was enjoying it. Just the simpliest of things were so much more.
Seiji's grey eyes met with hers, much closer than any other moment they had been together. As she spoke, he stayed silent, just searching her face. She did seem better now. That was good. He nodded in respone, smiling as she seemed to blush. It was still cute. His heart was racing a little, being this close to Ranka. Sure they had been holding hands almost this entire time, but to be this close to her was different. Their embrace, although out of panic at first, was more calm now, more gentle. He liked holding her like this, he wouldn't complain if she wanted to stay like this awhile longer. "Then I'll keep you warm." Seiji replied, words finally coming to his mind."
