"I'm scramblin' around on the floor,
Searchin' for some new fresh metaphor,
All the words to describe this just do not exist"

The sun was setting out over the water. Canalave sunsets were always so envious. Blotches of orange and purple bled through the clouds, flowing over the town. Will and Teagan walked across town peacefully, trying to take it all in. They were heading over to the pokecenter because Charlie had taken a pretty sizable hit.

Will was a little nervous, he was scared to see if Charlie was alright. He couldn't help but feel responsible. He was unsure in his abilities to guide and raise a pokemon.
"It won't take more than a minute," Teagan explained. "They're really friendly there too."
Will shook the hair out of his face and nodded. "Yeah well, I can't help but feel that this is my fault. What if he's really hurt?"
"You can't hold yourself to that. It was your first experience with your pokemon and it was your first battle. How could you have known?"
Will shrugged, "I could've done more. I could've done better."
"Well," Teagan continued, "I think it's important to go out and experience things for yourself and to make mistakes, because honestly, how else do we learn?"
Will scoffed under his breath. She was right but then, when wasn't she? "We know that better than most."
"We certainly do, kiddo."

Will had never been inside the center. It was a simple building, basically a big lobby. There was one large counter that spanned from wall to wall, and a single receptionist stood behind it patiently. Behind her was a very large machine built into the back wall, it was fitted with six small inlets. Vending machines and couches lined the walls on either side.
"Hello there," the receptionist said though her large smile. "You need me to heal up your pokemon, yes?"
Will approached the counter nervously. He drew Charlie's pokeball from his pocket and set it on the counter reticently. "Yeah, I just came from my first battle," he explained sullenly, "I won, but I don't think I did nearly as well as I should've."
The receptionist chuckled, "But it was only your first encounter? You hold yourself to steep standards, don't you?" She took the pokeball and placed it gently in the machine. "This'll just take a moment."
Teagan came up behind him, she wrapped her arms around him and hung her head over his shoulder. It took Will by surprise, he wasn't used to this level of physical contact.
"He always thinks that he could've done more, or that he should've. What he doesn't realize is that more often than not, he does just fine."
Will looked down to hide a blush that could've set a cigarette, the receptionist smiled and turned back to the machine to retrieve Charlie.
"See now, that was easy right?" she said, returning the pokeball politely.
"Yes, thank you very much," Will said.

Just outside the center Will let young Charlie out of pokeball. The clumsy swinub stumbled out, and looked around slowly. Knot's of hair hung down past his short stubby legs and covered his eyes. The only discernible feature other than hair was his small tongue that hung out past the various tangles. Will looked down at him curiously. It hadn't been the hit he took during that battle. Charlie was just like that. Slightly relieved, Will let out a sigh. "What's going on Charlie?" Charlie looked up at Will, shaking his head to get the hair out of his eyes. He walked over and buried his head in Will's pantleg. Will knelt down and pet him. He was excited, like when you first get a new pet. He ran his hands though Charlie's abnormally long hair, pushed him around playfully. Will was content, Charlie was far from perfect, but then so was he.

The sun was getting dangerously close to falling underneath the horizon. He stood and turned to Teagan, who was sitting on the side of the road looking out at the water. "Ready to-," he started, but was immediately captivated by her presence. Her long black hair flowing behind her, she looked so happy. Teagan turned and his eyes caught hers, they were so wide and green and warm. He froze, longing to just get lost inside them. Will had never seen her in this light, and wondered how he'd missed it for so long. She was beautiful and he needed her. He just stood there, lost in the contours of her face.

Riza laughed a bit when Crenu mentioned Ken and overdoing it. The man did have a certain amount of flair to his outfit, though Riza figured it had everything to do with the fact that he was a coordinator. She'd begun to wonder what Sinnoh contests were like too, though she still had yet to compete in one herself. She smiled happily when Crenu said he'd accompany her for her first gym match, and though she'd missed his yesterday she couldn't help but feel right again, like she was back on track. It was odd, yet comforting at the same time. She also couldn't help but notice the little smile he had on, it wasn't something she saw often but it seemed like she was getting better at provoking it.

Crenu's next question, however, took her completely by surprise, especially since he always seemed to be going on about her following him around. "Uh, well, I hadn't given Sinnoh too much thought," she said quietly. "I wasn't planning on going, at least not right away, but..." her voice trailed off and she could feel her cheeks start to flush with embarrassment. "I think I'd be more up for it if we were to go together." She gulped, and giggled nervously. That had been a lot harder to say than she thought it would be. She cleared her throat and looked over her shoulder. "Um, well, if we are going to the gym, I want to go to the pokecenter first and get my Pokemon checked out." She stood up and smoothed the wrinkles out of her dress. 'Plus if we hurry i bet we can avoid that strange Ken guy. Crenu doesn't seem to like him much,' she thought.

It took a few moments for Joey to realize that he'd lost the fight, and he recalled his Croagunk with a frown. "Okay, you won," he said, glaring at Katie. "But you should be nicer to people."

Katie was still holding onto Genki as she looked at Joey. "And you should train your Pokemon better," she retorted. "I think they both could end up being pretty strong, but you've got to put in the effort to get them there." Genki jumped to the ground and turned towards Joey, a sympathetic look on his face. Sure, they'd won, but did Katie really have to be like that afterward? The Monferno sighed and gave her a look. Katie rolled her eyes. "All right, fine," she mumbled. "If you need an escort back to the pokecenter in Oreburgh, come with us. We're going there anyway."

Joey didn't answer right away, but he nodded. "Yeah, thanks. That'd be nice." Katie pushed the bike while Joey walked along beside her. Katie could tell that he wanted to say something but she couldn't guess as to what. They'd got back into town without incident and had made it the pokecenter as well when he finally looked at Katie. "How do I get stronger?" he asked her. "I know my Pokemon can be strong but I don't know how to train them better."

His question had caught Katie off guard and she held up her finger to signal one minute, and she walked the bike around to the back and replaced it where it belonged while Genki waited with Joey. She took a deep breath and made her way back. "All right, you want to be stronger? You could always go to the Jubilife Trainer School. That's where I started out. Mind you, you can't learn everything in a classroom but it is a good start."

Joey nodded. "Okay, thanks. Maybe I'll do that," he said. "Maybe we'll battle again in the future."

"Maybe," Katie nodded, and the two trainers entered the pokecenter to treat their tired Pokemon.

Before anyone could say anything Vlad was on top of the pinsir and laying down a barrage of blows onto the poor beetle. "OK! Enough I've seen enough you win." The collector said returning his pinsir to his pokeball. "It was a good fight. It was nice to see a scyther in action with my own eyes. But if you will excuse me my Pokemon require my attention now." The collector said pushing his glasses up once again and walking quickly by Eraku trying to avoid any conversation.
"Jeez what was that guys problem. He was the one that wanted to fight. Oh well Good job guys!" Eraku said smiling. Hurricane was sitting on his trainers shoulder and gave a chirp and a affectionate n** to his trainers head.
Hmmph wasn't even really a challenge! That guy gave up on us way to easily. Vlad thought, though he did have to admit his new trainer did a good job at giving him commands. Maybe this kid did have what it took to be Vlads trainer.
Eraku noticed out of the corner of his eye that someone was watching him. He turned around to see a girl who had apparently been watching his fight. He gave her a quick smile and a wink. "Hey Hurricane this girls pretty cute I think we should go introduce ourselves." Eraku muttered to his trusty companion. He walked over to the girl and gave a wave and said "Hey hows going? Were you watching the fight?"

Crenu couldn't help but feel more embarrassed when she answered his question, and it didn't help that she seemed fairly embarrassed herself. He had expected a simple maybe, but the way she said it was...different. He shouldn't have asked her at all, he didn't think it would be this difficult but things were starting to get complicated in his mind. Crenu still needed to get stronger, he needed to devote himself to completely to training and improving in every way possible. The pursuit of perfection and power was an obsession for him, it was what drove him to go on constantly and to be a trainer. Yet simply being there and hearing Riza say something like that made that obsession feel less important. And that wasn't exactly a good thing. But still, he couldn't shake the feeling, snapping back from the depths of his thoughts when Riza stood up. "Umm, yeah, good idea. I need to use the PC there anyway. So...lets go." He stood up, still feeling a little awkward as they started for the center. Feeling the need to change the pace of the conversation before it went anywhere else Crenu pulled out the small case that held his badges from his coat pocket, opening it up to take out his new Knuckle Badge. "I won my gym challenge. The Dewford leader was a fighting type trainer, he was tough." He held the badge out and handed it to Riza. He didn't much care for it but he figured she might like it.

"Your Charmander is pretty fast," Christina commented with a nod. "Even without the speed boost from her dancing."

"Thanks," Kasiya answered, grinning. It was a nice change to battle someone who was polite. "Your Ryu is pretty tough too," she added, idly wondering how Jaeshan's Bagon was doing. She hadn't seen the little dragon in a long time, and she wondered if it had managed to evolve at all, if capable. It probably has, she thought, smiling to herself. Jaeshan takes good care of his Pokemon. She looked back at Nova, who seemed to be quite enjoying the battle so far. "Dragon Dance again, Nova," she called, nodding. She heard Dante's attempt at cheering, and she laughed, looking over at her friend and giving him a thumbs-up. He was trying, at the very least.

Nova was quite happy to execute her special move again, and even as she twirled and spiraled into the Dragon Dance her steps were quite lithe and elegant. Ryu's wild and reckless attacks weren't even coming close to landing, and Kasiya's smiled widened with pride. "Take him down, Nova," she said firmly, her right hand slashing through the air. "Dragon Claw!" The tiny lizard snarled fiercely as she rushed forward, a light purple aura emanating from both her arms. She quickly closed in on Ryu and lashed out with her right before finishing it with an uppercut from her left. The Bagon was lifted a few feet into the air before he crashed heavily on his back, out cold. Nova spun on a heel and looked up at her trainer, grinning broadly. "You did it! Great job, Nova!" Kasiya laughed, running to scoop up the Fire-type in her arms.

"Dragon Claw... I didn't see that one coming," Christina said, shaking her head as she recalled her fainted Bagon. "It was still great though," she added, walking over to Kasiya and Nova. "You did well, little lady," she said, rubbing the Charmander's scaly head. "I hope we get to battle again someday, when Ryu and Nova are all grown up."

"I hope we do battle again," Kasiya replied, though she wasn't quite sure where a Bagon's evolution line went. Christina smiled, gave a little nod to Dante and headed off, presumably to the Pokemon Center to get her Bagon healed. Still excited about Nova's victory, Kasiya turned back to Dante. "So, on to round three with you then, right?" she asked, grinning broadly. "You'd better hurry up and win that Up-Grade so that I can evolve your Porygon."

A small smile found it's way onto Jaeshan's lips as he watched Seviper launch herself into the air. That's just what I was expecting Ken to do, he thought. He'd seen a few contests on TV before, as his mother had been a fan of watching all the showy appeals and moves, so he'd had an idea of what to expect from a coordinator like him. "Blaziken, don't move a muscle," he said quietly, eyes still fixed on Seviper as she barreled down on the Blaze Pokemon. Blaziken hadn't stared directly into Seviper's nasty Glare, but she was still perfectly aware of the snake's position. "Not yet," he whispered, clenching a fist as the snake drew ever closer. "Wait for it, not yet, not yet... Now, Blaziken! Flamethrower!" he shouted, punching the air. "Full power!"

Flames spouted from Blaziken's wrists as she looked up, and she opened her beak and expelled a tremendous jet of fire directly into the face of the oncoming Seviper. Her fangs still managed to penetrate the flesh on Blaziken's shoulder and she winced, but kept the Flamethrower going strong. That's the way, Jaeshan thought, unable to get over just how far the Fire-type had come since they'd met.

Riza had been quite grateful when Crenu somewhat changed the subject and they stood up, heading for the pokecenter. Her mind was wandering as they walked, and she couldn't help but think about the things he'd said earlier. 'He keeps saying that power and strength are important, the only things that are important, but does he really mean that? Also, didn't he know that he could get stronger without being alone?' She sighed, wondering if it was such a good idea to accept his invitation to Sinnoh. What if he decided he didn't want her to come along after all? What if she ended up holding him back?'

She'd been so lost in her own thoughts that she almost didn't notice when he held out the knuckle badge for her to take. "Good for you," she said truthfully, and though it wasn't the prettiest badge she'd ever seen, as after all she had seen all of the badges Jaden had earned from his travels, but it seemed to inspire her to win one of her own, and she smiled as she handed it back to Crenu. "What do you suppose the badge from Vermilion gym looks like?" she asked as they reached the pokecenter and went inside. It wasn't too busy and Riza went right up to the front desk and gave her four poke balls to the nurse, thanking her in advance before looking back to Crenu. "And I wonder what pokemon the gym leader has, too."

Once her Pokemon were all healed, Kate then showed Joey the correct location of the Jubilife Trainer's school on the map and sent him on his way. Though she'd initially been unimpressed with the kid, his determination to become better had won her over and she silently hoped that someday she'd see him again. Once that was taken care of Katie went back to the center to inform the nurse that the medicine delivery had been successful. After that she went outside again, though this time she wasn't so sure what to do. 'Well I said I was going to try out the gym, now is as good a time as any,' she thought, making her way towards the gym. She hadn't gotten very far before she remembered that the gym in Oreburgh was home to a leader who favoured rock-types, and even though her new Roselia would be an asset, as would Genki with his fighting-type abilities, that left both Noa and Kord out of it, though Kord because he had only hatched a few hours ago and Noa because she lacked any moves capable of even scratching rock-types. 'Hmm...I bet I can remedy that,' Katie thought with a smile, walking right past the gym. She kept going until she came upon the blue roofed building that was the pokemart and she went inside, not really knowing what she was looking for.

As Katie browsed the shelves she also had taken out her Pokedex and was looking up Staravia's entry, hoping that it would give her an idea of what kind of moves she could teach Noa. 'Oh, steel wing,' she thought, picking up a silvery disc that was safely contained in a jewel case. 'That sounds like a very good move to teach her, plus I think rock-types are weak against steel-type moves.' She checked the Pokedex just to make sure and she tucked the steel wing disc under her arm and continued to look around, finally deciding to pick up a few extra poke balls and potions. When her shopping was finished she didn't have very much money left, and that bothered her a little, but it also was a good incentive for her to earn some more. 'Now to teach this to Noa and start practicing with it,' she thought as she carried her shopping bag back outside.

Still feeling rather embarrassed about the whole situation what with the cheering and him forgetting about the dragon type weakness. "Ah good job with the battle." He muttered before looking down at the Charmander with interested. Even though he had a fire type in Apollo now he still didn't have any transport, Bahamut wasn't there anymore and he couldn't surf around on Shiva anymore. Besides the small fire lizard would get really strong when it evolved. "Your Charmander did very well in that battle." He complemented Kasiya and the energetic pokemon. "Yeah get that Up-Grade, you can't seem to buy them at stores so this is really probably my only chance to get one for a while."

As soon as he finished saying that the announcer blasted a horn loudly to get everyone's attention. "All right! We are ready for the finals! I hope everyone is ready for this. On field one the battle will be taking place so let's all give out contestants a round of applause."

"Hmm, looks like I am up. Hope this isn't to boring for you." He grinned slightly at the blond and her Charmander before heading off to field one. When he got there his opponent was all ready there. This time it was a sort of nerdy looking girl who had a confident look on her face.

"Ok looks like we are all set here! The rules are the same as the other matches. Let's hope these two contestants give us a good battle! Remember an Up-Grade is on the line here! Let's go!"

"Heh, you won't believe what your going to face." The girl started with a grin before she tossed out her pokeball.

Well she was right about something, Dante didn't believe that the girl had got her hands on such a rare pokemon. The pokemon itself wasn't the most common but it certainly wasn't rare. What made this pokemon rare was the light gold color of the usually snow white fur. The Vigoroth jumped around with as its name suggested, with vigor. The crowd oh-ed and ah-ed at the sight of such rare coloring. "Hm, unfortunately for you you are not the only one with a special pokemon." Was all Dante said before he tossed Apollo's pokeball out. If you were to ask Dante he would say that Apollo's special coloring was much better, then again he was pretty opinionated on that. The white Rapidash with the silver, white and black flames appeared in a small burst of fire. Landing easily on the ground and shaking his majestic head sending a few sparks here and there. It seems though that the crowed really appreciated Dante's pokemon as well as there were a few complements on Apollo as well.

The nerdy girl across from him seemed to deflate a little, she had probably relied a bit on her shiny pokemon getting her some extra cheering but it seemed like Apollo evened the playing field. "Oh well even if you do have a shiny pokemon that doesn't mean that Vigoroth and I can't beat you! Vigoroth let's start with your Slash attack!"

"Apollo use your Flame Wheel." Dante countered pretty sure that Apollo was faster then the energetic pokemon.

The Vigoroth lept at Apollo it's long claws raised and ready to slash down on the fire unicorn. Apollo braced himself as the flames on his mane and tail flared up brightly and soon the both of them were engulfed in silver flame.

Robin, Masamori, Black*Star, and Luffy were seated in a nearby cafe, Robin's two pokemon demolishing the bread basket as they waited for their food. Robin and Masamori though were talking about various things, while the uneasy feeling about the man was still there but she chose to ignore it, Masamori seemed fine to her. "So your a member of the police?" Robin asked curiously. That seemed like a way cool job to her, then again she didn't think there were any police members other then Officer Jenny's.

"Sort of." Was all Masamori answered. There was a small pause on both of their parts before he glanced up at Robin. "Why do you think that is a cool job. Most people don't like police officers."

"Course its a cool job!" Robin exclaimed slapping her hands on the top of the table. "You get to help people and protect them when they can't do that themselves. Helping people is always a good thing!" Robin spoke passionately bright blue eyes staring determinedly into Masamori's own dark eyes.

The older man just stared at Robin in mild surprise. He had not expected such words from, aside from her clothing a rather plain looking girl. Help people? It had been a while since he had done anything like that. Now that he thought about it though that was his job, that wasn't the reason he had gotten his job but that was a good thing he supposed. Instead all he did was protect people from themselves. "I spend almost all my time stopping people from being stupid." Actually he spent a lot of time making sure that people didn't figure out that they didn't have as much freewill as they thought they did.

"Just because people have different opinions doesn't mean that they are stupid. They might not have the best idea's but that doesn't mean that you or someone else has better ideas." Robin said with a small frown. "People are good and you just need to have a bit more faith in them doing the right thing if they are given the chance." The conviction in Robin's voice at that proclamation was almost physical. Even with people bullying her for most of her childhood she still had faith that everyone was good and that all would be well.

Crenu put his badge away, a bit relieved she went along with the change in conversation. He thought about her question, taking a seat in one of the lobby chairs while she gave her pokemon to Joy. He set his bag down by his feet, opening it up to recheck his stock now that he had a chance. "The badge is probably yellow. Maybe it'll be shaped like a lightning bolt, or at least be kinda jagged." He was an electric type trainer so that's just the kinda theme that came to mind, but a lightning bolt shape would be kinda lame. "Hmm, well as I recall Kanto's electric type pokemon are Pikachu, Raichu, Voltorb, Electrode, Magnemite, Magneton, Elektabuzz, and I think there's one that comes from an Eevee. Oh, and the legendary bird Zaptos. Electabuzz are rare but he's a gym leader so I wouldn't put it past him to own one. I think Pikachu or Raichu is likely, maybe Magnemite or Voltorb as well. Magnemite are part steel though so if he does use one fire and fighting type moves are best if you don't have any ground type moves, it has a handful of resistances and can be hard to take down otherwise..." Crenu was getting caught up in his thinking, this was the sort of thing he did for fun in his own mind all the time. Planning things out and thinking of every solution possible was what he did. "Sorry if I was rambling..." Crenu shook his head as he started fumbling through his bag. TMs, his HM, bike...what's this? Crenu pulled out an odd looking stone with a bright starburst pattern in the middle. When the hell did he get that? He didn't recall buying or finding this stone or anything like that, and yet here it was in his bag. Turning it over in his hand he couldn't help but wonder what it was and how it got there. But only one thing came to mind. "Ken.... But why?" He looked back up to Riza, maybe she knew what it was. "Know what this is?"

++++++++++++++++++++

Hmm, Jaeshan sure seemed like he was taking his time to counter, he hadn't reacted right away like a lot of trainers did. Not bad. Ken was a bit surprised when Blazekin's beak opened and she spouted out a mighty jet of intense flame right into poor Seviper's face. "Oh no! My dear old Seviper, say it ain't so! Hehehe, pretty good Jaeshan. But it's to early to celebrate, Seviper isn't out with just one hit. My serpent here has more than just pointy fangs." Seviper already knew what to do, this wasn't new to her. And it was instinctual for her to do this sort of thing anyway. With the Flamethrower blasting her back she arched her body so that her head hit the floor. "Now honey, Poison Tail!" She kept her momentum going as her head hit the floor, her sword like tail glowing purple as she swung it upwards for a vertical slash. Kenneth smiled, it was always a joy to see his pokemon preform so well. But he more also very impressed with Jaeshan, his instincts and connection with his pokemon was very nice. He was curious to see how the blond man would respond next.

The sound of Pan's thick tail impacting with the Kecleon's stomach could be heard from where Keegan stood, and the redhead smirked and puffed away at his cigarette. The Kecleon easily had a bigger move pool than Pan did, yet Pan was much better at utilizing the moves he did have, and though he knew he shouldn't enjoy beating a newbie trainer too much, he couldn't help it. The opponent staggered back, looking a lot weaker than before, though it continued to stare at the Treecko with determination. "It's got spunk, I'll give you that," Keegan commented, flicking a bit of ash to the ground. Though he'd taken a few hits, Pan still looked eager to continue, and his yellow eyes were narrowed at the Kecleon. He wasn't going to lose, not today. Before either trainer could issue another command, Pan had dashed back towards Keegan, his eyes seemingly searching for something on the ground. The Treecko let out a happy-sounding noise when he found what it was that he wanted, and he whirled around on one foot, holding a long, thick blade of grass in his fingers. "Pan, what are you doing?" Keegan asked, even though he knew he wouldn't get an answer.

Pan simply looked back at Keegan and winked before he looked over at the Kecleon again and brought the blade of grass to his mouth. Within seconds the gecko had begun to play a soothing melody, and it didn't take long for the song's effect to become apparent. The Kecleon's eyes drooped and he started to look very sleepy, but somehow it managed to fight off being put to sleep, and it wobbled a bit on it's feet.

"Hey, your Treecko knows Grasswhistle," the girl said. "My Grandma's Roselia used to use it to help me sleep when I was little."

Grasswhistle, Keegan repeated to himself. I'll have to remember that one. He grinned at the little gecko. He was really starting to like Pan, so what had that Ed guy meant by him being troublesome? he continued to ponder it as the girl prepared to set her Pokemon on the attack again.

"Use your Lick attack, Leon!" she called. The Kecleon crouched low and spat out his long tongue once again. Both Keegan and Pan were ready for him this time.

"Grab his tongue," Keegan shouted quickly, bringing his cigarette to his lips again. Having discarded the blade of grass, Pan gave a nod and reached out swiftly with his hands, holding tight to Leon's long, sticky tongue. Try as he might, Leon couldn't seem to free his tongue from Pan's grip, so he retracted it. This had been what Keegan was waiting for. "Hang tight and use Pound," he called. Pan didn't weigh much to begin with so it didn't take much effort for Leon to yank the Treecko back. Pan readied himself, using the momentum of his pull to spin around and smash his tail directly into Leon's head, sending the Kecleon into the ground. Pan landed safely on his feet and he knelt down, wiping the Kecleon drool from his hands before he turned back to Keegan and gave him a thumbs-up.
=====
Once more the Starmie sped through the air towards the awaiting Pinsir, who crouched into a defensive position, the sunlight glinting off her hard shell. She waited patiently, reaching out with her strong arms at the last moment as Starrie prepared to slam into her, and in a surprising turn of events Petunia grabbed hold of Starrie and held tight for a moment or two before she shifted her weight and hurled the Starmie to the ground with a Seismic Toss. Starrie jumped back up pretty quickly, as the difference in experience level was much in the water type's favor. Miharu clapped, quite impressed with the Pinsir. And she'll only get stronger, too, the green-haired girl thought with a smile.

After a few more Tackles from Starrie, Miharu had changed Petunia's tactic to dodging, though this was proving to be difficult for the relatively slow beetle. She'd managed to avoid only one of the three, and just narrowly, at that, and Miharu could see that the Pinsir was getting quite frustrated. "It's okay, girl, why don't you take a break," Miharu said, putting a hand on Petunia's shoulder. "You're doing great, so there's no need to worry." Petunia grumbled, but nodded and stomped away from the training area before settling herself in the sand. Starrie seemed eager to continue training so Miharu looked towards Tingle and Lily. "Either of you want to train with Starrie?" she asked. For a moment the Metang and Bulbasaur just looked at each other, but finally Lily jumped to her feet, and nodded. "Alright Lily, get into position, and we'll begin." The small girl smiled. It was good to see Lily actually want to do some training for once, and she wondered if it maybe had something to do with the gym battle they'd had in Goldenrod yesterday.

"Oh, Leon," the young girl cried as she ran to her Kecleon's side. He opened his eyes and weakly smiled up at her, and she sighed. "You did good, Leon. Take a break now," she said, recalling him into his Pokeball and standing up. "That was fun, even though I lost," she said, looking over at Keegan and smiling earnestly. "I learned a lot from that."

"You and I both," Keegan mumbled, crouching down as Pan ran over to him. He reached out and patted the gecko on the head. "Nice work, buddy. You're a tough little guy, I like that." Pan grinned and flexed his small arms, obviously quite proud of himself. Keegan put out the burning end of his unfinished cigarette and tucked it behind an ear as he held out an arm for the Treecko. Pan eagerly scrambled up and situated himself on Keegan's shoulder. The two of them looked over at the girl. "The Pokemon Center's just over that way," he told her. "They'll take good care of your Kecleon there."

"Thanks," she replied, already heading in that direction. "When Leon and I are stronger, I hope we can battle again!"

Keegan chuckled and watched her go and began to make his way there himself, figuring that Pan could use a quick round of healing after his tussle with the Kecleon. They hadn't gotten too far before he noticed a fairly large gathering of people, and he could vaguely hear a voice above all the others, saying something about a battle and an Up-Grade being on the line. "I wonder what's going on over there," the redhead mumbled. "Wanna go check it out?" he asked. Pan nodded. Of course he wanted to see what was going on, he lived for this sort of thing!

Pan's curiosity was seemingly contagious as soon Keegan was pushing through the crowd, the Treecko now perched up on his head. Once the duo had made their way through, Keegan was surprised to see a Vigoroth, though it's fur was a shiny gold colour. Facing the oddly-coloured Pokemon was an even stranger one, though one look at those black and silver flames and Keegan knew exactly whom it was that he was looking at. "It's Apollo!" he laughed, looking around. The last time he'd seen the silver Rapidash was when Dante had informed he and Kasiya that he could no longer be a trainer and was leaving his Pokemon with people he trusted, but he hadn't known who would take care of him.

"Vigoroth, let's start with your Slash attack!" the trainer of the Vigoroth had cried.

"Apollo, use your Flame Wheel," came a much calmer, and familiar voice, and Keegan looked past the two Pokemon as they initiated their attacks to see none other than Dante standing there. Okay, that's odd, the redhead thought, scratching his chin. What's Dante doing here, and in a battle like this, at that? From his shoulder, Pan watched the Rapidash and Vigoroth with wide eyes. He could tell that these two were strong.

Sam cowered in a doctor's office. She had gone primal and bit the doctor who had tried to take her blood. He had gone to bandage his hand, muttering under his breath. Now she was keeping her anxiety under control....barely. Her head was swimming, and she knew if she didn't get it under control, she would faint, and they would test her blood while she was unconscious. That frightened her more than anything. The door opened again, and she backed into a corner. Her father, and Officer Jenny, came in. Her dad knelt by her side. Sam's eyes grew wide, and she whimpered. Her dad sighed. He wrapped his arms around her, and restrained her. Jenny stepped forward with a butterfly needle. Sam screamed, and cried out, but her dad held her fast. The needle went under her skin, in the crook of her elbow. It was held there for 20 excruciating seconds, and once it was removed, Sam fell limp. She wasn't entirely unconscious, but she didn't protest to being carried to a couch in the waiting area. Her dad left for a minute (or maybe longer; her mind wasn't processing time really well) but returned soon with her things, including her pokemon. He released Star, and Star crawled onto the couch beside Sam. She cocked her head, and waved her hand in front of Sam's face.

"Saaaaammmm...." she whispered. "Wake up sleepyhead." She frowned. Sam gazed around, dazed and confused. Star grinned mischeviously. She fired a tiny jet of water in Sam's face. Sam sat bolt upright.

"Ah, Star, what the!" She fell back on the couch, still dizzy. "Was that really necessary?" Her mind floated. Star sat back, giggling.

"Good to have you back, Sleeping Beauty. We gonna blow this joint or not?"

"Not yet, chica, they have to process my b-b-blood." She shuddered. She hugged Star tightly. She grabbed her other pokeballs. "Miles, Devlin. Come and join the party." She released the two. Devlin fluttered into her arms, terrified as always. His birthday had been a hectic day. Miles hung from the hanging lamp on the ceiling. He swung on it. Sam laughed, although the action brought pain to her head and chest. A few minutes later, Jenny and her dad re-entered the room.

"I'm so sorry I had to do this to you Sam. But you'll be happy to know you are completely cleared. Not a trace of alcohol in your system, very little Xanax. Even less then Orions's. You're free to go." Sam sighed gratefully, and stood. With her dad's help, she left the police station, free to travel and continue her journey.

The road to Fuschia was filled with strong trainers and maze-like routes. Eztli tried to avoid the trainers, intent on getting to Fuschia, but wound up lost on Route 13. She was faced with a large patch of tall grass. She could already see some of the buildings of Fuschia on the other side of the grass. She took a deep breath. If she was lucky, she wouldn't be accosted. She dashed through, fast as possible. She hopped over small holes in the ground, and ducked through some long reeds. She had Fuschia in sight when she was suddenly bowled over by something purple. She got shakily to her feet, in just enough time to dodge another charge. Apparently she had angered a Nidorino by entering his territory. She jumped out of it's way. She couldn't run through Fuschia with it chasing her. She would have to battle it.

"Xipil, let's take care of this quickly, alright?" Xipil emerged, and nodded happily. Even though this was her fourth battle of the day, she was still raring to go. "Good, Mach Punch!" Xipil flew forward and punched the Nidorino solidly on it's flank. But it hardly reacted, it's armor deflecting much of the power. Eztli thought for a moment. 'Oh right, Fighting against Poison is no bueno.' The Nidorino furiously launched a Poison Sting attack, slicing Xipil's face. She cried out in pain.

"RiiiNOOOO!" It breathed heavily in anger, and charged forward again. Xipil leaped high in the air, over the Nidorino. As it charged again, Xipil waited, then disappeared. The Nidorino skidded to a stop, confused. Eztli looked around, just as confused. Where had Xipil gone? Without either noticing, Xipil reappeared at the Nidorino's side, at swiped at a weak spot on it's side. The Nidorino jerked back, out of anger and pain, but it didn't seem that injured.

"What was that Xip?!" She brought out her pokedex, and looked at Xipil's entry. A new attack was listed. "Faint Attack..." she whispered. She looked back up to the Nidorino. It's head glowed bright blue, and charged. "What is that? Xip, move!" Xipil dodge it, but barely. She felt the Nidorino's horn whistle past her body. "What move was that? It didn't look familiar!" The Nidorino's head glowed blue once more. Eztli looked at her pokedex. It said, "Head Smash". Eztli stared in horror. She looked back up in time, but wasn't able to get an order out. Xipil was barreled over by the Nidorino, the super-effective attack taking all her energy. The Nidorino fell back, the recoil damage taking a huge toll, but not enough. Eztli recalled Xipil. "That....was...amazing. And scary. Zolin..."She had to think. She hadn't looked at Zolin's pokedex entry yet, but it was a Cubone. They always had special moves. "Zolin, Bone Club!" Zolin emerged, and howled, the skull rattling eerily. The Nidorino didn't pause though. Zolin rushed forward, and smacked the Nidorino on the horn with his bone. It stumbled a bit, but didn't fall. "Tough guy...I had hoped this would be over."

When the silver flames died down Apollo had a few gash's along his flank and the Vigoroth was viciously trying to pat off the flames on its body. Still the battle didn't look like it would be over from just the first pass of attacks. Apollo just stamped his hove down hard on the ground and shook his head ready to go again as the Vigoroth started jumping around ready for the next strike.

"Hmm looks like I am going to have a challange for this fight." The nerdy girl said with a grin. "All right Vigoroth let's use your Aerial Ace! No mater how fast that Rapidash is it can't dodge this attack!" The girl grinned as she adjusted her glasses. The Vigoroth just chattered loudly in excitement before it leaped for Apollo its long claws glowing a light blue color.

"Apollo just brace yourself." Dante muttered, no matter how fast Apollo was Aerial Ace always hit. The energetic pokemon smashed his claw into Apollo's side causing the Rapidash to give a small cry of pain at the powerful hit. "Apollo while it is close counter with your Stomp." Ignoring the pain for a moment the fire unicorn launched himself onto his back legs before slamming his hooves down. The Vigoroth managed to roll mostly out of the way but it's left arm didn't make it completely out and managed to get caught under Apollo's Stomp.

The golden furred Vigoroth cried out loudly in pain as it struggled out from under Apollo before leaping back to where his trainer was standing. The pain seemed to make the Vigoroth more angry as it clutched it's injured arm and jumped around angrily snarling at Apollo.

"Heh you are pretty good. Well better then everyone else I fought here. Still that Up-Grade will be mine."

"We both made it to the finals that would be safe to assume." Was all Dante said in response.

While Serenity wanted to spend more time doing what she could to get to know her new pokemon, there was something else that she needed to take care of before she left for the farry. She headed to the pokemon shelter so that she could say could by to the pidgey she had rescued the day before. She was a little shocked to find that he was still curled up with the Dragonair. Both pokemon stirred when she came in the room.

"Hi Lily and Rocky." she said quietly. Sere got down on one knee and held out her hand. She hoped that the bird pokemon would come to her. "Rocky, I know you don't know me very well yet, and I hope that changes, but..." She hesitated. It had taken her most of the night to come to this decision. "I'm going to leave you here for a bit. I think it will do you good to hang around some of these pokemon, so you can get a change to see what it's like to be healthy. So you can see that not all trainers are mean." She moved forwarded and petted the bird.

Lily looked up at her and nodded, giving Sere the impression that she agreed with the statement. "Thank you Lily. I know you'll take good care of him."

She got back to her feet and shuffled out of the shelter. George had now become extremely interested in the Lapras that sat in the middle of the yard. Sere smiled.

"Yes George she's coming with us." She said answering his question before he even thought to ask it. "Now, we need to get going so I'm going to get both of you to go in to the pokeballs for now. We'll get to know eachother soon Bryny." She said petting the new pokemon. George looked too distracted to notice the fact that he was going to be going into his pokeball.

"Thanks Dante," Kasiya said, nodding at her friend. "And good luck with your last match," she added as he'd been called away to take part in the final battle. She followed along after him, stopping on the sidelines to watch the battle. Kasiya wasn't sure about the strange yellowy Pokemon Dante's opponent had released, but she could tell by the glowing sparkles that were released with it that it was a shiny Pokemon, like Fang and Twilight. Once again Nova scrambled up onto her head, quite eager to see another battle as her trainer fumbled through her bag for her PokeDex, and she used it to scan the golden Pokemon. "Vigoroth," she mumbled, putting it away again as Dante prepared to send out his Pokemon. "It may be shiny but it's still pretty ugly," she mumbled to herself.

However, her eyes lit up when she saw the Rapidash appear. He's got it now, she thought, cheering loudly for Dante and Apollo as the battle began. Most of the crowd hadn't really chosen which Pokemon and trainer to cheer for yet, it seemed, as most were impressed with the oddly coloured Pokemon. I can't wait to be able to show off Twilight like this too, she thought, lightly tapping the Umbreon's Pokeball. On her head Nova cheered loudly as well. The dancing, black and silver flames that were Apollo's mane and tail had her completely entranced, and she hoped she'd get a chance to meet that awesome looking Pokemon once the battle was done!

Even though Jaeshan knew Blaziken was faster than Seviper, there was no way she could avoid taking the hit from the Poison Tail. "Brace yourself," was all he said as the Fang Snake Pokemon lashed out again. Blaziken held her arms up in an x-pattern, feeling the sting of the attack on both her wrists, and she staggered back. That Seviper's entire body is a weapon, Jaeshan thought, impressed. He had to hand it to Ken; he'd sure trained Seviper well. He looked back to Blaziken, who'd already recovered from the strike and was eagerly anticipating her next command. Seviper may have all that momentum in her favor once she gets going, so we should take advantage of it once she has to stop and start again, he thought with a light nod. "Okay Blaziken, now show 'em your Rock Slide," he called.

Another roar erupted from Blaziken's throat, and her ever-burning wrists were raised to the sky. The ground beneath Seviper rumbled and cracked apart before large chunks of it were thrust upward, and on Blaziken's command sent raining back down again.

"I guess it would make sense if the badge was a lightning bolt," Riza agreed, closing her eyes as she tried to picture what the badge looked like in her mind while listening to Crenu list off the Pokemon she'd be likely to face in the gym. "No, it's okay. It's kinda nice to have a heads up for what might be ahead," she said, smiling at him. The nurse waved her over and she went to claim her Pokemon, thanking nurse Joy a second time before she went back over to Crenu.

"Hmm?" She looked at the brightly coloured stone in his hand and shook her head. "No, I haven't seen anything like that before, but it kinda looks like one of those stones you can get to evolve Pokemon, you know, like a thunder stone or a fire stone. Where did you get it?" she asked.

Katie walked back up towards the same route she'd just came back into town from, route 207. She passed by the spot where she and Joey had their little battle and continued into a small area enclosed by high walls. There was grass growing on the ground all around and small rocks and boulders were littered everywhere. 'This looks like a good place,' she thought as she let all her Pokemon out of their poke balls. Almost immediately Noa and Genki were glaring at each other, but as soon as they saw that Kord was out of his poke ball as well they looked away from each other. Katie sighed and shook her head, wondering of the Staravia and Monferno would ever get along. She called Noa over to her side, and though she'd never actually used a tm before she'd seen it done a few times at her school. She removed the disc from it's casing and put it up against Noa's head. The disc seemed to glow brightly before it shrank back, almost as though it was being pulled into her mind. Once it was over Noa let out a loud trill and spread her wings wide. She liked her new moves, that's for sure!

"Okay everyone it's time for some special training!" Katie announced, clapping her hands to get everyone's attention. All four Pokemon looked towards her. "We're going to try for our first gym badge sometime soon, and I want everyone to be in tip top shape. Even you, Kord, even though you're too young to be in a gym battle yet." Kord frowned, but nodded. He'd just have to get stronger, then. "I want everyone to start warming up, then we're going to work on your moves that will be strong against rock-type Pokemon."

The four began to stretch their arms, legs, wings, flowers and tails, excited chatter being exchanged between them as they did so. Once they were ready Katie sent them off in separate directions to practice, though she kept the young Elekid with her for now. She then walked back and forth between them, keeping an eye on their progress.
